I still miss Thad. Great guy. Loved having him as the face of the program. But dammit if Holtmann isn’t making it easy for me to move on. He’s doing a hell of a job.
Agreed on Holtmann, but not on missing Thad. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy and did a helluva lot for our program, but his time was over in Cbus. I don't miss him at all.
This is awesome. Haven’t been this excited for buckeye basketball in years. Go Bucks
Amazing job Coach.
Lets get things going! Yes!
It wasnt so long ago we were selling out the Schott every so often
I can distinctly remember that #1 vs. #2 Wisconsin game that was insane. I want that back.
The last 5 years have been pretty abysmal in terms of schedule, attendance, and atmosphere I have got to say.
They pretty much offered a free upgrade to Huntington Club level for a lot of season ticket holds just as a oh my we are so sorry
Baby we got a stew goin
Well, I came here to say something, but it looks like everyone else had the same idea. Coach Holtmann is a basketball Jones!
"Age wrinkles the body, quitting wrinkles the soul" Woody Hayes
Haha, thanks Nutabuckas! I have that classic album. Haven’t heard that in years.
Congrats to Pedon and Holtmann, it's nice to see our recruiting starting to look like the football program.
If I must choose between peace and righteousness, I choose righteousness! -Theodore Roosevelt.
Is this class now Mr.Ohio, Mr.Illinois and Mr. Iowa basketball ?
Kevin, do you know ?
I probably missed an update, is there a top center Boom coming that Coach is working on if you know ?
All 13 scholarships are accounted for at the moment for the 2019-20 season:
PG- DJ Carton (Fresh) and CJ Walker (Jr)
SG/PGs- Luther Muhammad(Soph), Duane Washington (Soph)
SG/SF- Musa Jallow (Junior), Justin Ahrens (Soph)
SF/PF- Andre Wesson (Sr.) and Alonzo Gaffney (Fresh)
PF- Kyle Young (Junior), Jaedon Ledee (Soph), and EJ Liddell (Fresh)
C- Kaleb Wesson (Jr), Micah Potter (Sr)
It would not surprise me if 1 or 2 players transfer out by the 2019-20 season. That is just reality in college basketball these days. There definitely looks like a potential logjam at the PF spot.
But Holtmann is on record in saying that he would like to be at that 11-12 roster range with potentially a transfer (like CJ Walker this year) waiting in the wings.
And that roster looks like a nice combination of young talent and experience. That looks like a potential 9-10 man rotation to me.
I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.
Good breakdown of the player positions, I don't disagree that we might see a transfer or 2, but there is only one that stands out. As you mention, it would likely be at the PF position. I think Young is going to have to show significant improvement from last year if he's ever going to get much PT here. IF Ledee is ahead of him in the rotation this year, I think he could start to question how much he will ever play here.
Yep, I agree. On the other hand, if Young makes significant improvement sees starter mins at PF, I could see Ledee transferring, especially with Liddell and even Gaffney likely to snatch up some mins at the 4 the following season.
Ledee may be playing center ... of course coach likes the 3 guard system and some people say that is two forwards three guards system... but I think Ledee is looked to be used more as a center from what I have gathered.
Ledee won't be playing as center. Kinda like when we went small last year, no one was playing center. Its possible he would be guarding the other teams center, depending on what that persons skill set is.
I know we've looked at recruiting some centers, so I don't think we've completely abandoned the idea of playing a traditional 5 man, but from the recruiting he's done here, I think Holtmann is preparing for more of a 3 guard (depending on what you call guys like Jallow and Ahrens), 2 forward look. There aren't many dominant low post players and you can always scheme how to double team them if you have a lot of length/quickness on the floor. Its easier to find a more skilled/athletic 4/3 than it is to find a really good big and the bigs that are that good don't stick around long.
I read somewhere else that a top 50 center is going to be on campus this coming weekend.
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
Was it a recruit for 2019? The Buckeyes are recruiting Zach Loveday pretty hard. He is a Top 50 Center (from Gallipolis, OH), but he is in the class of 2020.
The Buckeyes are recruiting Zach Love
Gaffney transferred to a prep school in New Hampshire, so no Mr. Ohio Basketball for him.
I thought he may have won it last year.
Our head coach and his staff know what they are doing both on the court and off the court. . . not to mention another very important factor, high quality character guys which speaks loudly to prospects and their parents.
Sweet! Love the Incoming talent!!
The more you act like a lady the more likely he’ll act like a gentleman.
Great job for 19. Great, even somewhat surprising, run last year. I like this trend! Keep it rolling.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!

The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
I think we should leave that declaration to the idiot to the north. We don't need to ask questions like this - we KNOW how good we have it here in Buckeye Nation.
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
I do think it is interesting that all of his schtick stuff has been put away it seems. Getting beat down all the time will do that eventually.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
LOL true that IGAW ... although implicit sarcasm was intended ... props to the bucks and a putdown of TSUN at the same time ... a win - win. :)
This is just amazing. Coach Holtmann is a rock star.

Is E.J. related to Chuck?
What site are these recruiting rankings on?
I cant find this list
Haven't been this excited about Basketbucks crootin' in a while.
yes, I'm still alive
I'll be excited to see them play.
Varys: I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.
Tyrion: A wedding.
Outstanding, though apparently even with the turmoil at both USC and L'Ville they are still pulling in recruits, appears they are giving them directions to the strip clubs instead of bringing the strippers to campus
Coaches change, benefits remain.
Man, I am pumped about this class!
basketball cannot come soon enough!
But... then football would be going by too fast....
Pray for potatoes with a hoe in your hand.
Move over, not us, we're the best Football + Basketball school now, jerks!
Weird seeing USC on that list.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
the Buckeyes officially have a top-five class for the first time since 2015.
Hopefully they all stay this time. But seriously, well done, Coach Holtmann.
Class of 2010.
Holtmann has exceeded expectations so far. He has an easy sell to recruits right now. Program back on an upward swing, and he can look these kids in the eyes and tell them if they work hard they are going to be on the court early and often. He has brought passion back to the basketball team.
Ok, one of these does not belong: Kentucky, Louisville, tOSU, USC. Wait, what? USC? Even with the big scandal Louisville is still able to pay .....errr... convince top players to go there. Kentucky and Duke are pretty much always top destinations for big time recruits, but I don't remember seeing USC in that "elite basketball school" list. Must just be one of those years where there's a lot of talent on the west coast for them to bring in.
USC has been recruiting extremely well since they hired Andy Enfield.
the empire never ended
USC is owning the recruiting scene in SoCal this year-keeping the top recruits at home, plus LA is always a draw for an OOS recruit or two. Their new coach-the Florida Gulf Coast dude, has really cranked up the recruiting, legally or illegally.
This is a fantastic class. Some blue bloods start sniffing around top in-state player Alonzo Gaffney, Holtmann locks him down. In-state legacy recruit Jeremiah Francis spurns us for UNC and I start to get worried about the PG spot--we needed a good one with Jackson graduating and it is a REALLY weak class for PGs. So Holtmann goes out and gets one of the absolute best available, #2 PG in 247 Composite, in DJ Carton. Then the staff laser-focuses their priorities on EJ Liddell as the missing piece for what they need, a versatile and tough forward who is highly productive, and they eventually beat out the closer-to-home powers for him. Bravo, Holtmann and co., bravo.
Add in the pg transfer that started for FSU, that deepens the guard room, he gets to practice the whole year like scoonie did and all of a sudden there's plenty of depth at guard. Very good recruiting for CH and staff these two years.
Speaking of Scoonie, there's only two schollies the following year, and they want a big and a guard, and they've already offered the 2 best players in the state, a 7 footer and the best guard, plus they've offered Scoonie's kid. You have to hope if a schollie doesn't open, that scoonie and his kid would be okay with walking on and paying for a year of school. That's a hard sell, no matter how much one likes osu.
I guess you could give scoonie a 20 grand raise, a merit raise that is, to kind of cushion that decision. ; )
Are we Final 4 yet?
