Me too! Gus everyday...
Yeah, how did *ichigan @ Northwestern get put on Fox, and our game didn't?
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
It was ESPN/ABC's week to choose first. Scroll down to the post for 9/18:
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
And they KNEW we would have the highest ratings.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
You seriously prefer the FOX broadcast? There are a million fucking commercials on every FOX broadcast. There was a point in the second quarter of the PSU game where ABC/ESPN didn't go to commercial for 7 minutes of game time.
Dude... Did you watch the second half? We had an end of quarter break, came back to the OSU punt, and then went to an extended media timeout on possession change after one play.
Commercial breaks are not a network issue. And I can tell you back in 2007 when FOX started dabbling in big college football games, I hated the personalities and the broadcast itself... But as of today... Yes, give me Gus and Klatt all day. The broadcast Saturday was atrocious.
youre talking about the announcers. hes talking about the production. fox is still an inferior product to ESPN at this time.
I am 100% talking about a production stand point as well... ABC/ESPN is out here giving us GoPro shots from the umpire and field level endzone shots from behind the offense pre snap... Anyone who has ever played the game or watched football analytically knows that a field level endzone shot is WORTHLESS! Cool, give me the endzone shot presnap, but do from an elevated camera so I can see the personnel and formation of the offense with the defensive alignment. I don't know what planet you consume football on to think ABC/ESPN presents a game better... Is it because they have cool animations before the commercial breaks or their scoreboard looks cooler... Get outta here with that nonsense.
I friggin can’t stand the 1000-camera production that ABC/ESPN uses or the cutaways to a sweating coach while the ball is snapped. Fox does some weird stuff too, BTW, but doesn’t seem quite as over-the-top. For me, BTN (also Fox) is the most watchable from a camera perspective, but they also don’t show the biggest games where production value equals eyeballs on huge sponsor money. Still, I’ll take the good with the bad to see my team.
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
Yes Buckfrombirth. I totally agree. Give me the B1G Network video with Gus and Klatt on the call ALL DAY!
But I agree, the bigger games in primetime make producers go crazzzzzzy and they try to get all these new interesting camera angles that just dilute the product. Although, showing the sideline one time did tell me everything I need to know about James Franklin... He basically went full on Joe Pa and completely disregarded what was happening on the field to walk over to his fans to tell them to stand up. What a clown.
we make it very ez for the networks...a penality every kick...so they can get their commercials in.
Justice delayed is justice denied....#FTP
Ive learned to just tune the announcers out. My issue with the is the CONSISTENT inability to show 100% of the action. Out of a 210 minute brodcast, there is really only about 20 minutes of actual play. Yet they still seem to miss the start of MULTIPLE PLAYS every game. And there were at least 2 penalties that i had no idea who got flagged for what because the network was blathering on about what comes on at 8 on sunday.
And dont even get me started on all the cute little cut-aways to the coaches, or the bench, or the stupid field level angles from the corner. I swear i would pay $100 per game for a broadcast that is the normal high wide-angle side view 100% of the time. It is nearly impossible to see formations, down and distance, defensive coverages, and field position.
"Everyone has a plan, 'til they get punched in the mouth."
I noticed this too, especially during the TCU game. Many times when they cut back to the field, the ball already had been snapped. Seemed they were more interested in their pre-planned visuals and commentary than actually announcing the game. It was embarrassing.
I swear i would pay $100 per game for a broadcast that is the normal high wide-angle side view 100% of the time.
Might as well go to the games for that much money lol
I see your point. However, based on the amount of alcohol I like to drink during the game, I would still be ahead.
The word is biased.
Fowler grew up in State College. Dad worked at PSU. Can’t be overlooked. Personally I didn’t realize it. I tend to not actually hear anything they say when the game is close.
“Elliott dots the I on this national championship win” and “Samuel, cuts it back, Ohio State wins” were all said by him, and so for that, I am grateful.
Elliott dots the eye, on this national championship win.
Fowler IS a Penn State fan boy. And not as professional and adept at setting aside his loyalties as Herbie. Herbie is a master at that, clearly.
I’d almost rather deal with Rece Davis and his Bama boy crush.
Go for two only because you can't go for three
Well then he can be a butthurt State Penn fan boy
Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, its a war room
Didnt know that about Fowler although it became obvious from his commentary. I thought he was a Colorado Buffalo.
My guess for his alma mater would have been "Dick state". Fowler sucks.
He is a Buffalo, but grew up at State College because his dad was a professor there. So for sure is a PSU fan at heart.
I haven't seen the broadcast yet but Fowler grew up a Penn State fan, so no surprise there.
"Anything easy ain't worth a damn"
Fowler is trash. He was unbearable. When he jizzed his pants as he said THATS THE BOOK ON HASKINS, YOU GET HIM OUT OF THE POCKET AND HES AWFUL" or something like that I nearly broke my TV. I've never heard a more bias call of a game. It was unreal.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
We are hoping he had on pants anyway.
Well at least the camera work was good./s
Stick to tennis, Fowler.
Feed the trolls
Better than Beth Mowins.
Our games should never be that low that we get stuck with ESPNs 5th string team
Fowler sucks at his job, always has. Problem CFB fans have, ESPN usually promotes people who suck at their job.
Well, he was good on Scholastic Sports America, wasn't he?
Screw up, move up is what we say here.
Surprised we haven't been on Fox yet. Fox is better in everyway, atleast they got The Game.
Will be next week for IU too
Class of 2010.
He did admit that he grew up a Penn State fan. Knowing that made it harder to listen to him. Reading the Baboons with Internet (BWI) though, that seems to be PSU fans' feelings about Herby.too. So I'm not sure we're the best judge
Ako ne možete postavljati bez gluposti ... nemojte
Ako vièeš na suce, ti si šupak
Plus espn is over doing it with the extra shots of the crowd and sidelines, etc. they missed the beginning of the next play about three times.
Banks of olentangy
I started watching the broadcast during the 2nd quarter but watched all the way through from there on.
I did not have any suspicion Fowler was a Penn State fan until I saw it mentioned in these forums post-game. I think there is a lot of overreaction happening here
Did you have your volume on?
Yup. Really don't think there was much bias in the broadcast unless one was looking for it, which I wasn't
Agree Mastro. I think people heard what they wanted to hear from Fowler. Didn't sound biased to me at all. Perhaps I'd feel differently if we lost, but what I heard was a guy trying to call a game and make every play sound interesting no matter who made it.
Disagree. I had no idea he was a penn state fan and I noticed his bullshit
When an announcer yells “he won’t get it” on a play where he clearly was on the line, makes me think different. He’s wasnt announcing what was actually happening, he was announcing was he hoped would happen. I didn’t even know Fowler had ties to Penn St until I wrote this thread, so I wasn’t looking for anything. Just what I was witnessing.
Fair enough. I assume you’re referring to the Dobbins 4th-and-1.
I didn’t think he got the first down either, at least until the replay. Of course it was gonna get reviewed and sure, Fowler could’ve waited. But honestly I didn’t notice that play until I saw people mention it on 11W, cause in real time I myself thought Dobbins was short.
I didn't notice anything either. Honestly, I thought Dobbins hadn't gotten it on first look either and was upset when he got stopped where he did. I didn't think that call was biased.
Agree Mastro. Listening to replays today, and Fowler was just as excited and animated on the OSU TDs and the final tackle by Young.
People like to pick one comment or one miscall and call it bias.
"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, & in the manner in which you live.
So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "
- Stuart Scott
That's why I have a Mute button
Fowler was definitely more excited for Penn St plays (so I used the mute button myself for parts of this game) and as someone above mentioned, when tOSU nearly was stopped before the marker on a play it sounded like he jumped out of his seat in excitement. I don't really care as much about this as I used to but it is still noticeable and annoying enough for me to read and comment I guess.
I'm usually not one to complain about the broadcast, but Fowler's evident bias, coupled with the dreadful camera shaking, was just horrendous. Guess the layoffs are really catching up with them.
Tom Brady lost to John Cooper. Never forget.
WTF was up with Fowler screaming “Welcome to College Football “ when Handler scored? Handler has been in CFB just as long as Dobbins and Chase Young.
Fowler likes "barrels into". Just like Herbie likes "Tempo" .
I'm pretty sure I head Herbie at one point say that JK Dobbins "squirts through" which I found way too amusing.
“Tempo” is second only to “in phase”
Fowler sucks, no question, but imo the camera work for abc/espn gets worse every game and that's what really drives me nuts. Save me the cute angles....show me the game. Am I the only one?
Absolutely not. I'm tired of the goofy camera angles as well.
I want to see where everyone is on the field prior to the snap, but I've found that way too often in both the TCU and Penn State games, we missed the snap and have to cut back to the play already in progress because ABC just had to show either a slow-motion replay or some idiot in the stands.
That is the director's fault in the production truck. For prime time games, they should have their "A" directors, but maybe layoffs are affecting that part as well.
Another possibility is the guy running the video switcher is a little slow reacting to the director's commands.
My favorite team? Whoever is playing TTUN.
Could not possibly agree more with both of you. I posted the same above. Swear to god i would pay extra for a broadcast that was 100% normal side angle, with the occaisional replay.
I like to look at substitutions, defensive alignment, offensive formation, field position, etc. Impossible with all the assinine cut aways and field level corner shots.
To answer some of your remarks
yes that is their “A” crew and one of their better directors. They will be doing the national championship game. The cutbacks have really not affected their top directors or really any of them.
The bigger the show the bigger the alottment of cameras. The more cameras the more different angles. There’s really no bigger show in the regular season camera wise than Herbstreits crew.
If your preference is the bare minimum 5 or 6 camera show (3 or 2 up game cams, handheld, low and high end zone) then enjoy a Beth mowins or a Desmond Howard weekday Mac game.
But if u want all the angles covered for all replays, replay reviews and iso’s Of key players in key moments then appreciate that OSU is good enough and draws well enough to be in these games.
Much better than the alternative of osu getting screwed on a bad spot because it was a small crew and they didn’t have a cart cam on the first down line.. you would be complaining about not having enough angles then....
Sounds like you've been in a production truck before. The TCU game had a lot of snaps missed, so I assume the director was not prepared for the tempo - especially TCUs.
I would say that all the crews are prepared for the tempo at this point since the spread became a thing years ago. What usually happens in my experience is the producer and director get to aggressive with trying to get a replay in. Sometimes the risk pays off and sometimes u get burned. I can’t recall the missed snaps from TCU, but’s it’s possible TCU went even faster than they expected
Saw a few missed snaps in Browns game today too. Saw even more missed calls by the refs
I hear you. You clearly know your stuff. I guess my point is, do we really need all those cameras? Some of the rotating freeze frame shots are outstanding. But the field level stuff is worthless. I want to see 100% of the action. That should be the standard and priority all the time. If the producer misses the opportunity to inject a replay or some fancy graphic or promo, so be it. Show the game. Just one simple mans opinion.
They used to have a PIP method when they were presenting a team with an up tempo offense so they could show it while they showed a replay. They apparently have ditched that.
The down vote is a mighty tool. Use it on idiots, not differing opinions.
And the commercials. Good lord man, there were soooooooooo many commercials. It was painful
I am counting up the commercials and time of total commercials for that 4 hour college football game. Thats right 4 hours. 30 minutes longer then an NFL game. Unreal.
You never lose to those pricks. Ever. Ever. Urban Frank Meyer
I got all of my laundry finished for the week during those commercials.
And just imagine all the players anxiety having to stand around WAITING to resume play, Grape Ape.
And the SAME commercials over and over. At least give us a little variety!
You don't like hearing about Samsung's 82" tv four times every drive?
Only if they give me one after watching said commercial xx number of times.
He is a graduate of Colorado.
He still had a Penn State boner last night.
Yes. It's why I started a thread on him.
But Erinn Andrews tho...
Tailgate Fare Historical Archive
CBJ lookin solid that night huh 3M?
It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
He grew up in State College and his father was a theatre professor at penn state.
The bias was real.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
And this picture of him in a Colorado Avalanche hockey jersey proves it...
Fowler was just biased and terrible.
Fowler and Herbie were bad, but were ABC's camera guys drunk? I'm tired of them missing snaps and the strange camera angles.
It's a football game, not cinema verite.
but were ABC's camera guys drunk? I'm tired of them missing snaps
That is the fault of the director. He is the one telling the video switcher guy which camera to put on the air.
Could have been worse. Could have had Beth Mowins.
I would prefer her over Fowler. Serious.
The Ohio State University
University of Minnesota
After Ohio State beat Michigan in 2002 I was in the C-Bus airport heading home. My closest friend worked at ESPN at the time and was "friends" with Fowler and Herbstreit. More so Kirk.
I saw Fowler sitting in the lounge, waiting for his plane, reading the paper, legs crossed, head down. Went over and said hello, you work with my buddy Mike Smith. He said yes, and acknowledged that Smith mentioned I was going. I said, "Crazy game, right?"
And he replies, "Yeah, it was. Enjoy it. You're going to get killed by Miami."
"You should stick to commenting on things after they happen." I walked away.
Truly an A-hole. I can tell you even more stories about that guy but I won't. Disliked by most.
you cant leave us all “hot and wet” knowing you have more stories. Please elaborate!
When in doubt... Muck Fichigan
Bill King hates Chris Fowler. Pretty much confirms what Brah Zhole states. That and he was a whiny little you know what when Musberger’s seat opened up making it known through the hallways in Bristol he thought he deserved the job. Apparently ESPN had someone else in mind but Fowler threw a fit. Somehow he weaseled his way into the booth with Herbie. Fowler is much better at the GameDay desk or calling the U.S. Open (tennis).
Another thing, the amount of time they devoted to that dumb ass rapping mother and videos of her, shots in the stands of her, and sideline reporting about her was some of the worst tv I've ever watched. No. One. Cares. Show the game.
Let's talk about Indiana.
There's no points for second place, gentlemen.
I'm ashamed to say I turned the game off in the second quarter. It wasn't because of the score it was because of the amount of commercials vs the amount of game play. Waited until the trimmed down 50 minute version was available to watch it.
This game and the TCU game were absolutely awful to watch due to how many commercials there were . During TCU no joke they ran 12 commercials in the span of two plays and a time out.
I know that's how they pay the bills but 7-10 commercials between 3 and outs and 2 minute gameplay drives just takes away from the flow of the game.
I find Fowler ill prepared. He said Okudah was back to receive a kickoff and it was Dixon.
I know it can be confusing with players having the same #'s, but it is the second game he has done with the Buckeyes in 2 weeks and he should know that.
He seems "snarky" to me and I find him annoying but everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion.
He said Okudah was back to receive a kickoff and it was Dixon.
The number of times this has happened this season almost feels contrived. The ESPN bottom line was listing the offensive stats for defensive players (with shared numbers, of course) throughout the TCU game. Go look at the game on YouTube and you'll see what I'm talking about.
It was so bad, even CincyOSU has been complaining about it in several threads.
Grow up! For three quarters Oho State did very few positive things. With an open, honest, unbiased view, go back and listen to their coverage in the 4th quarter. What do you want professionals that are doing a nationally televised game to do? Lie and lose their jobs. If you can't take honesty, you'll have to turn off the sound on your TV and listen to radio coverage by Ohio State's Paul Keels. Even he would have a very hard time finding many positives about the first 3 quarters.
You seem angry my man, these are just observations. No one was saying anything about them not saying positive things, I don’t need the announcers to jerk Ohio St off to be happy with the coverage. I’d just prefer them to know the players on the team and call plays as they actually happen.
You really think lying results in job loss for media in 2018? You really think lying results an any punishment for media in 2018?
It is this guy here BeatTTUN’s opinion that when the announcers are being homers for the other team it makes the Buckeyes victory even better. Those announcers now have to eat crow on live television. You just know they are burning up inside when they have to praise the team they were rooting against the entire broadcast
I saw Ryan Day hang 62 on Michigan...His hair was perfect.
Go Buckeyes Beat Michigan
Gus and Klatt are by far the best tandem
100% agree. Gus is the most entertaining play by play guy, love his energy. And Klatt is the most informed and brutally honest guy in CFB.
I can watch almost any game they call, even without Ohio State playing.
So we are going to complain about Fowler getting things wrong, and then say how great Gus is? Because Gus make plenty of mistakes.
Brent Musberger with Dick Vermeil...Brent great play by play, Vermeil masterfully breaks down the plays offense, defense, and how each play is set up..
Ok, but that was like 20 years ago.
Yes, you can't get better than that classic game experience.
If we are going classic, give me Keith Jackson.
I can't think of anyone who is less enjoyable than Fowler. His voice is grating and his reactions are forced.
I pay very little attention to what is said on TV, I just watch with my own eyes and tune them out. That also makes is frustrating when espn/abc has the game because their technology and talent is ancient. The Fox pictures are so much sharper and they don't cut away from the action nearly as often. When there is a long review they split the screen and play commercials side by side with a camera on the ref. Last night during a critical play (which literally could have been any play) the stupid camera was over in the stands showing Brutus and some PSU fans. WTF? There was live football action going on and THAT'S what they chose to broadcast instead? I can't wait until the B1G totally cuts Disney out of the broadcast picture.
ABC needs to switch back to their college football theme music from the late 90’s early 2000’s it was so good! The new college football playoff theme they came up with sucks and is more annoying than anything.
The call on fourth down was strange because it looked close on tv too. And he was wrong on several other calls.
I do not remember who called the TCU game, but that person struggled worse. They kept repeating that OSU had not scored an offensive TD when they had scored one or two at that point (just after Campbells big TD catch and run).
I think at one point they said something like “this is Haskins first big game action”. I remember some playing time against Michigan last year that was a pretty big game...
Didn't he also say that Haskins only knows how to throw screens or some such? I've heard that line repeated now on various videos, like a Youtube video with the latest heisman race rankings, some dude was like Haskins is horrible, he only knows how to throw screens. It'd be funny if it wasn't such an entirely stupid fucking assertion. That said, I didn't notice and typically do not pay attention to the announcers. I guess I'm too zoned into the actual game to even care what they are saying. It's more like background noise, same as the crowd and the bands. THE FUCKING COMMERCIALS EVERY 20 SECONDS THOUGH NEED TO EAT A ******* AND DIE....
A gentle reminder to BE NICE. Plays guitar and makes iced tea in the winter.
God, our fans will complain about anything or anyone who doesn’t compliment our team all the time. The broadcast was fine.
Uh, didn’t you hear? The AP ranked OSU the #1 football program of All Time. So yeah, Chris Fowler better be on our nutz, if he knows what’s good for him.
He's either dumb, or deliberate (both?).
Like when the punt was downed at the two and he yells, "DOWNED AT THE ONE!" Clearly because it sounds better on TV, but clearly, it wasn't the one. It's little things all the time, often slightly inaccurate, that make him VERY annoying.
Can't imagine Kirk likes him that much.
We can say what we want about Fowler and last night's broadcast, but the funny thing....coming from fans like Maryland or Rutgers -- newbies to the Big Ten is "the announcers love Ohio State -- listen to their voices when they score a touchdown or do something good."
Yes, I could go on and on too. I thought Fowler sounded a bit biased and noticed some of the same things you guys did. But the bottom line is that when most teams not named Clemson or Alabama play Ohio State, it is presumed to be David and Goliath -- and everyone roots for David. It's why no OSU coach will likely ever be named COY. You get the talent - you ought to fucking win.
If you wanted to hear really biased announcing listen to the final quarter of the Buckeye vs. Miami Natty in January of 2003. Keith Jackson was fine as he always was. But Dan Fouts....a lifelong friend of Kellen Winslow (KW's son was Miami's TE) practically was an extra coach in the booth for Miami during the broadcast.
So maybe it's an age thing of mine vs. most of you -- or just my frame of reference, but this ESPN hate is really pretty old and silly after a while. Want to have the announcers stop gloating over Penn State? Have our team stop getting their ass handed to them for 53 out of 60 minutes of a game. It'll work wonders for that shit.
Not so much ESPN hate. I've learned to tolerate their crap broadcasts and shows. It's clearly Fowler dislike. I think Reece Davis does a much better job.
Okay...fair point, zhole.
I'd watch the game on TV on mute with the radio on if I could, but I'm 2000 miles from Columbus and I've noticed at least a 30 second delay when I listen to games via online radio. Hell, I get ESPN score updates on my phone before I hear a scoring drive on the radio and I dont usually get those until well after a td or fg when I'm watching a game on TV...
That said, its worth it for listening to Paul Keels (although I will admit I'm biased because my dad used to work with him in Cincinnati radio in the 1980s and 90s)
"the announcers love Ohio State -- listen to their voices when they score a touchdown or do something good."
How would Rutgers fans have a basis for comparison? ;)
Dan Fouts during the 2002 National Championship game was the very worst example of biased announcing I've ever heard, and it's not even close. That man is a Grade-A turd from top to bottom. I want to throw a brick through my TV every time Waterboy is on.
Pray for potatoes with a hoe in your hand.
BN01--I do the same , usually mute TV and listen to Keels and Lachey. But Keels makes many mistakes as well; identifying players, correct yardage markers etc. And even the radio play call here in Cbus is 10-15 seconds ahead of the TV but nowhere near the 30 seconds you experience .
Well I hate to say it but the commentary and foul language coming out of the mouths of Buckeye fans posting on here during the game was just as embarrassing as Fowler. The Urban Meyer bashing was unbelievable and quite frankly after all our coach has been through he deserved much better. For some reason every offensive miscue was Urban's fault and BTW for those at home watching from their couch with their face stuffed into a bag or Doritos RYAN Day was calling the plays not Meyer. We were all offended by POS Mcmurray's article and how ESPN continues to crucify Meyer. Well some of you guys should be ashamed especially the poster who I shall not name who posted "Meyer please go back on suspension." WOW that's pure class!
I hate to see the team lose as much as anyone and I also get frustrated but that is crossing a line I'd never cross.
What was worse, the coverage or Hamler's mother?
What happened here?
People on ESPN saying Dobbins didn't get the 1st down (he did, but at the very least it wasn't enough to overturn it) but they fail to realize that he had reached the line of gain on THIRD down the play before by an even wider margin, which somehow wasn't reviewed.
Ehhh. I actually don't mind if an announcer is slightly biased against Ohio State, I kind of expect that. As long as he doesn't make a show of it and it only shows up here or there, it's fine. Now Brock Huard in the Cotton Bowl last year was so homerish toward USC it was absurd and was the first time an announcer has out and out pissed me off in quite some time!
Fowler doesn't compare to any of these football play-by-play announcers: Gus Johson, Kevin Harlan, Jim Nantz, Brad Nessler, Al Michaels, etc.
Herbie doesn't compare to any of these football analysts: Gary Danielson, Charles Davis, Tony Romo, Joel Klatt, etc.
Obviously I'm missing other notable announcers, but the point is ABC/ESPN has by far the worst announcers of any major network.
I could care less -- The Bucks won!
Sorry, I was too pissed at the targeting call. Anyone who disagreed with me was getting shade. Fowler seemed to think it was obvious... I was bias and admittedly so.
At one point I muted them. Was hoping haskins would shut them up sooner. We survived and i drank way too much. Atleast the next 5 weeks or so should be easy.
I watch the stream in Spanish. It's a lot more fun that way.
I tend to tune them out because it's just filler and takes away from the game. I do the same with Joe Buck and Postseason baseball.
"Let me quote the late great Cornel Sanders, I'm to drunk to taste this chicken"
I recently upgraded to a 4K 65" TV and then to the Hopper 3 from DISH network.
If I record the game, then wait a few minutes to start watching what is being recorded, I can do my own replays and skip forward thru the commercials. I eventually catch up to live action and can therefore not skip thru commercials anymore. However, I can also re-watch the last 2 minutes of action if I really don't want to watch all those annoying commercials.
Although I don't care for picture-in-picture while watching our beloved Buckeyes, the Hopper 3 allows me to swap (while recording both games) games while commercials are on.
The best was when they asked meathead Pollock who he thought would win the game. He said whichever team scores the most. Even Desmond Howard laughed. How's these people get these great jobs? And as incompetent as they are how do they keep them?
Speaking of Desmond Howard, I can think of hundreds that would be a better fit on Game Day.
And I love to see him have to eat crow when he picks against us.
Every single announcer and commentor hates OSU. Every one of them. Every man, woman and child in America hates OSU. OSU is hated. Even the officials hates OSU. Its no wonder we have a inferiority complex like no other fan base.
Alabama might be the only team hated more than Ohio State, but that mostly seems to be from people tired of them winning all the time. When it comes to people who hate Ohio State, I've found that it's much more visceral and in-your-face.
It doesn't have to be the PSU game. Fowler continuosly takes shots at Ohio State and Herbie. Always has and it 's a fact that ESPN in general hates the Buckeyes for a variety of reasons.
and it 's a fact that ESPN in general hates the Buckeyes for a variety of reasons.
No, it’s not a fact. At all.
you could always just mute the game
I tried. Paul Keels is about a 4-5 second delay on my 97.1 app.
I really don't care if their is some bias for someone's favorite as long as it doesn't go too far. I though Fowler was just fine.
I have to be honest, usually I am so annoyed with Herbie's stupid cliche's that I'm generally more distracted by that. However, none of the announcing bothered me nearly as much as the horrible camera production work. I tune in to watch the game. I want to see the teams line up, I want to see that badly. I don't care about a coach picking his nose, the grass blades from the pylon camera in the end zone, the band in the stands, panning shots of fans, funny banners, etc. It's almost like they're trying to create drama with the wacky camera angles and the thing of it is, it was an outstanding game, none of those gimmicks were necessary.
I mean, they'll show a replay with a diagram while the team is lining up, you'll miss the teams lining up, they snap of the ball and first few seconds of the play while they blather on - why? They know tOSU or PSU is running a hurry up offense yet they cut to that replay anyway and you miss the live game. It drives me absolutely insane. Or they'll have the skippy the sideline reporter talking about a player that was taken off the field with absolutely NO UPDATE on the player's condition but talking OVER the play of the game about something we JUST SAW. We know he had turned ankle, we JUST SAW it. Or, again, they'll run a sideline reporter's puff piece, during a break in the action, the game starts back up, the puff runs long and it continues into and over the game.
I do not understand this. I honestly feel like ABC/ESPN is the absolute WORST at doing this. Fowler calling the first down "no way is that a first down, it's fourth down" was a little bit annoying, honestly, I was pissed about that and I yelled to my brother and son "how in the hell can he announce that w/out a measurement or anything?" But, to me, that was a drop in the bucket of my annoyance.
I was WAY more annoyed with the camera cuts, cutting AWAY from the game right before the snap, the bits where they were talking OVER the game as it was happening, etc. Again, the others (Fox, NBC, CBS) do this to a certain extent too but not to the extreme that ABC/ESPN does. I think the thing that frustrates me the most is that ESPN is a Sports Network. It's kind of like taking your Lexus to the Lexus dealership only to have them leave grease on the interior, forget to change the oil (and the car is there for a tire rotation and oil change) and then maybe the lose a lug nut and don't tell you about it. I guess I have higher expectations for a Sports Network but overall I thought they did a terrible job on Saturday, I was really frustrated all game long with the crappy production work.
