That’s why I want to see us in the Cocaine White uni’s tomorrow night.
Fields of Dreams
my thoughts exactly. That's just visually pleasing, especially those memories of Bosa on the last play.
Does the white out in any way actually help? For instance, does the fact that the opponent will be in white jerseys make it harder for the QB to see the receivers? Just curious if there is an actual advantage to it.
No,, record is little better than .500.
Its just a way for psu to sell t shirts that say 'psu white out' on them.
James Franklin is among the 3 WORST ACTIVE HC's vs the top 25. Urban is THE BEST, even better than Saban.
I don't know what all the stats are, but to be fair, they also usually choose white out games against really good competition.
Just jumping in to put this up top... "That reason alone should be enough to hate him."
Jake, it's 10 reasons to hate the team, not the player.*
*Mike Hart excluded.
Nothing cleanses the soul like a no call pass interference.
PSU now has a losing white out record!!!! Its Franklin, the worst active v AP top 25 teams.
Pennsylvania is a commonwealth not a state #BoomRoasted
The only difference between a commonwealth and a state is the word used. PA can have whatever illusions they desire but they are no different than any other state in laws, politics, and their relationship to the rest of the nation as a whole. Now excuse me while I hone my run for president of the Conch Republic.
It's PCU, like VCU
The Conch Republic actually repelled a US invasion. Something about stale Cuban bread must terrify the US.
Whiteout is used to cover up mistakes.

Why must they be Nitany Lions? Aren't regular Lions actually scarier. I don't respect their choice of mascot.

Appalachian State is no longer an FCS school. They joined the SunBelt in 2014.
#facts don't matter in these write-ups! Let the hate flow...
You beat me to it.
I do wonder if the win over Michigan influenced their making the move to the FBS.
It's possible. They also won multiple FCS titles, so they may have thought they would be competitive.
Fuck Michigan. Does that help?
Urban Meyer didn't cover up domestic violence. Joe Paterno did cover up for a child serial rapist. And those fans, as far as I can tell, venerate him.
Didn't just cover it up, covered it up for 26 years.. they still idolize him though.
You're entitled to hate PSU but there is literally zero about your post regarding Joe Paterno that is true or based on corroborated fact. if the past 3 months should have thought us anything it's that facts mater and good people have no right to be destroyed by an angry media mob peddling a false narrative.
I'm born and bred Buckeye but have studied that case more than you can imagine due to my line of work. Paterno was railroaded and it was tragic.
Self edit: never mind. Joe's dead.
Actually, Paterno said he knew. Paraphrasing from one of his porch interviews...".they told me he was doing that. I said come on, men don't do that".
Just to help with facts.
No, you're quoting Paterno after the arrest of Sandusky when he when he had read the grand jury report.
Corroborated testimony and timeline show quite clearly Paterno had knowledge of, at most, two incidents involving Sandusky. One was thoroughly investigated by two police departments, the DA and three State agencies….and after Sandusky was cleared of it the state allowed him to adopt one child and place six more in his care as foster children. If Paterno knew anything about that incident it would not have been a “red flag”.
The other incident was relayed to as many as 9 people, three of which were mandatory reporters of abuse and concluded it did not elevate to a police matter. Paterno reported precisely as the law and policy (to say nothing of current NCAA guidelines which were not even around at the time) prescribe him to do.
No, I'm paraphrasing Paterno. I said what Paterno said, and you come in and say no, Paterno said that. You are confused. As well as complicit.
I'm a victim of abuse, jackass. I follow these incidents closer than anyone reading Twitter or sensationalized headlines because of a vested interest in making sure it doesn't happen to others.. What you wrote about Paterno covering up or knowing about a serial pedophile is fundamentally false at its face...and reiterating it makes you as lazy and inept at comprehending established fact as everyone we have slammed for blasting Meyer.
Appalachian State isn't an FCS school anymore. They haven't been for a couple years, however being in the Sun Belt Conference they might as well be. Ever since they moved up to FBS they have been a pretty decent team. To be fair though Penn State still should have stomped them into the dirt. Go BUCKS!
They scored 70 points last week.
Isn't Appalachian State in the FBS?
Whether it was issues with Parsons's character...
I know there was never an official reason given, but I just don't see how Ohio State could cite 'character issues' as their justification for ending any particular player's recruitment ever again after chasing Jackson Carman until the bitter end. Unless being a smug, arrogant, conceited dick isn't considered a character issue.
Also, I'd make Franklin number one on the above list. He is the acme of my hatred for Penn State. In addition, I wouldn't even acknowledge the 'rivalry' thing. They aren't one... end of story.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
It was a bit deeper than being smug... Not someone you want.
Came here to see if the baseball swing made the list, and was not disappointed.
They boils my blood too!!
Same here. I have always hated it since the first time I saw him doing it. It would be fun to see him get sacked and the sacker do the baseball swing over him - provided it doesn't bring a yellow flag with it.
My favorite team? Whoever is playing TTUN.
Unless we’re up 63-14. Then swing away Buckeyes. Swing away.
Wrong friggin sport, Trace.

I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
My hate for PSU has a lot to do with 2016 and the fact that Ohio State is returning to the scene of that game. Revenge!
Good stuff for the most part.
68% of this website thinks Penn St is a rival including me. That goes for off field recruiting. They’ve surpassed Michigan. Michigan hasn’t been relevant since 2000. Some kids on our roster were just born.
68% of this website thinks Penn St is a rival including me.
Don't confuse those who responded to an internet poll with everyone who visits this site. Many of us who saw that poll felt it wasn't worth responding to, because they’re not our rival.

So a team that has beaten us twice in a thousand years is a rivalry?
So a team that has beaten us twice in a thousand years is a rivalry?
You just proved that you don't understand the nature of The Rivalry.
You don’t join ANY conference in 1993 and become someone’s rival in less than 75 years. Piss off!!
Right. Independents don't have rivals really. Many old timers might say Pitt, nobody says OSU.
Back in the day, WVU used to be infatuated with PSU.
Exactly. Even acknowledging them as a possible rival makes them feel like a rival. Nope. Michigan. Thats it.
Gotta love it.
We realize that. You are not our rival.
We're just harmless nuts. With really hard shells!
Hey PSUFan, we’re trying to manufacture outrage here. You and your sensible acknowledgment are messing everything up. /s
PSU fan, thanks for the acknowledgement.
We view PSU as a highly talented competitor, just as we view MSU, Iowa or Wisconsin.
Heck, Illinois should be our rival, as that's the only trophy that Ohio State trades with anyone (the Illibuck turtle). But they're not.
The disdain that Ohio State and Michigan have for each other is going into its 115th season. There was also the "war" regarding Toledo. Add to that the fact that Michigan's last 2 Heisman winners are from Ohio, then the hate becomes clear.
We may be kicking UM's butts since 2001, but it was a far different story before then.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
4 of the 6 coaches they’ve had in my lifetime were born in Ohio. The other 2 were born in West Virginia & Tennessee.
only Cooper & Bruce (also Ryan Day) were not born in Ohio for the Ohio St coaches in my lifetime. And none of them were from that horrible state up north.
It's just a matter of time and perspective, really. I am pretty excited/anxious about tomorrow night. Right now, with what's on the line in this game (yes, I know there will always be one loss scenarios), it's a rivalry. "The Rivarly" is with just Michigan. I really don't like thinking highly of PSU's team, but they are solid, and our biggest roadblock to what we want at this point in time.
So, having graduated a couple of years before Penn State joined the Big Ten, I spent a good 20+ years disregarding Penn State as a rival, even though it felt like their fans looked at Ohio State as a rival, at least their biggest "conference rival". I flat out couldn't even comprehend thinking of them as a rival.
But three close games in a row have got me at least considering it. I have to be honest that, that for the first time since I matriculated in 1985 and gave up my Irish Catholic inspired Domer status did I have a game besides The Game that I was looking past that weeks opponent for. I wanted last years win more than any regular season game last year. Until that game was over, I didn't even think about *ichigan.
No, we don't have the long, historic enmity that we have with *ichigan, but ask any Browns fan or Bengals fan what they think of the Steelers. Ask a Reds fan what he thinks of the Pirates and the Phils. Don't act like there's never been anything to work with here.
Finally, after two and a half decades, I am willing to consider Penn State as a rival. Yeah, more has to happen and no, it will never be The Rivalry like *ichigan is. But my current POV is there is *ichigan, then there is Penn State, and then everyone else comes third.
Well done good list and good job not going for the low hanging fruit. That being said forgot about that stupid roar over the pa for everything yay mcswerly tied his shoes correctly tonight roar roar.
Parsons was right.
The ugly truth is often downvoted
If if was a fifth we'd all be drunk
Penn State joined the Big Ten in 1990 but their first season as a big ten member in football was 1993, also App sate has been in the sun belt since 2014
If you will it dude, it is no dream
A very glaring omission I must say.
I bet it was VERY tough to stop at 10
We don’t hate Penn State, we just mildly dislike them.
Buckeye in the desert of Washington state.
One thing I do hate about Penn State: Bo Nickal. That guy is such an ass hat
I consider Penn St a rival 7 days out of every year... game day & and the six leading up to that.
Up until last year, that's the way I felt, too - if that. I certainly didn't feel any stronger about them than I did about Wisconsin or MSU. But I think the 2016 game changed that. 2017 was just about circled on my calendar. But if this level of competition continues, it has the potential to develop into something more than that utterly forced ersatz rivalry that Penn State and Michigan State tried to concoct for years. From what I can see from the far side of the country, this rivalry has already grown into something among the non-revenue sports, not unlike how scUM and MSU view each other as their primary rivals outside of football.
Personally, I would like to see this game played the last Saturday of every October. September is too soon in the season, November is too close to *ichigan. Late October? Perfect.
The B1G is a Midwest conference. Guidos and jersey traysh aren’t the B1G to me. That’s why I dislike Penn St.
Proud Graduate of The Ohio State University-2014
Hate to break it to you, but if you get as far west as Illinois and certainly Minnesota or Iowa, they don't really regard Ohio as the Midwest either. I've had several Minnesotans flat out tell me "Ohio isn't Midwest". Of course, we both disagree.
Supporting this to an extent was a map presented in aa GIS course I took at Portland Community College out here in Oregon in order to take advantage of some professional development funds. One of the areas of research that the professor was regionalism in the United States. I distinctly remember one of the maps was about how regions of the US would break down based on self-identification. This map showed a large swath of the border areas of Ohio and Pennsylvania as not identifying strongly as anything. In other words, the Midwest and Northeast regions didn't touch, leaving a no-man's land. I'm not sure why, maybe Appalachia wasn't an option.
Regardless, the B1O is no longer a "Midwest" Conference, we invited the Guidos and the Crabeaters in. Hell Georgia Tech could be next. So, we're past time to get over that perception of the conference.
Hey Jake! I don't know if you heard yet, but Appalachian state is in the FBS.
"I spent 90 percent of my money on women and drink. The rest I wasted." - George Best
A true rival is someone you think about all year long, not just when you are about to play them. When you leave any game at the Shoe, there is only one song being sung by fans, and it is NOT about Pennsylvania. During basketball games there is only one team that "sucks" with one minute left in the game, and it is NOT Penn State. During basketball games there is only one logo that gets loud boos when the opposition is shooting free throws, and it is NOT Penn State. And those happen at basketball games when TTUN is probably not even the basketball rival. I think the fans make it clear who the main rival is.
To be honest, I would guess that most of the OSU fan base thinks about the PSU game nearly as much as the Michigan game over the past few seasons. But I digress, they aren't a true rival.
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
Right. We are not rivals. We understand the Michigan history. I literally don't know a single PSU fan who says "OSU is our rival".
PSU already has Temple as its rival.
So nobody has even thought about this game since January until this week? You fast forward your mind to Nov 24? Really?
Same last year? You all thought about lowly Michigan all year and only Penn St the week of the game? I don’t believe it for a minute.
Thought about the game? Yes if course it's a big game because....39-38.
Thought about Michigan in 2017? Yes of course! It's was the White Out game and we wanted revenge.
This is kinda simple really, we "thought about" who the big games are gonna be all year...yes.
"I think the fans make it clear who the main rival is."
Unless they're under 25, I don't think anyone is pretending that Penn State will ever be "The Rival". It is inconceivable.
But does that not mean they can't be a rival? I'm quite sure that we are The Rival from Michigan's perspective; but, does that mean that the Spartans are not a rival of Michigan? Why can Oklahoma have Okie State and Texas as rivals but Ohio State can't have both Michigan and Penn State?
There is room for another rivalry and maybe some of you will look back from the future at the twenty-teens and see it as the decade it happened, had to predict the future. But what I do know is that just over 100 years ago, *ichigan looked upon us as little more than a gnat.
Unless, of course, by denying the rivalry (a la Gary Moeller) is just part of the shtick of the rivalry.
After last year they might just be our rival in basketball.
Saying Penn st is a rival is only acceptable when the purpose of saying it is directly targeting that one friend you have who’s a fan of TTUN...as in “Penn State is our rival now since you guys are basically the smegma of the conference.”
Anyone who really thinks they are a rival doesn’t understand how the world works, and I fear for their children.
Franklin has one of the most punchable faces imaginable. He also uses too much bronzer.
I just read somewhere recently he's supposedly African-American. I was pretty shocked.
His mom is from England. He’s both.
Could we make an exception for Penn State and make it FIFTY REASONS? 10 seems so limited.
Buckeyes & Blue Jackets.
Penn State is as much of a rival as Michigan State or Wisconsin is. Just a team we play in the conference where the implications (and atmosphere) are bigger. I can tell you Penn State views us as a rival though, seeing as they always do their whiteout game every other year when we visit, and have done since the mid 2000's.
didnt need anymore reasons. Fuck them
If i could change my username, i would
Zero people in PA raise their kids to hate OSU. Nobody writes OSU like this ...XHIO. Why? Because nobody considers OSU a rival. Nobody. It's a big game. That's it.
Agreed, PSU fans are just aholes to anyone else.
Tickle monster didn’t make the list?
Nope. Too hot (still), and too true. We need to dismiss and ignore all of children that were tickled on the grounds of PSU. Ignore it and wish it away really hard. That way it didn't actually happen.
Gonna be at the game tomorrow. Any suggestions for a poster?
Edit: I would prefer suggestions that won't get me beat up. However, I wouldn't want to stifle the creative genius of the good people of Eleven Warriors by making stupid rules. That said, have at it.
"Because I couldn't go for 3."
Have the PSU logo with a choking hazard sign on it.
11. Their victimhood complex -for many years after PeeSU joined the B1G, we all had to listen to Paterno’s claims that the officials and the conference were against them. Maybe it was partly because when they joined the conference, a lot of people figured they’d be dominant and they never have been. But oh my gosh, the whole world was one big conspiracy stacked against them.
12. The Paterno’s cult - JoePa has been gone for several years now, but the blind, pathological loyalty extended to him was nauseating.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
PSU being a independent school for so many years and having that same coach is like a guy that gets married late in life. There not use to sharing but getting their way all the time. I always read about a bad call once and some of the fan base said the B10 is against them. Lets leave and join the ACC has been mentioned many times in the past.. Being independent they played the likes of Temple BC Syracuse and William and Mary to help boast win totals. When they did play a good school it would have a cake game before and after the tuff game because they set their own slate. Not sure if anyone ever noticed for awhile PSU had bye games before our game at PSU many times. Talking about the piss that was tossed on our band I don't believe the band has been back to PSU since that happened. You can google a Skull session when the PSU band attended and the PSU band director mentions that the bands don't get along the BLUE and the RED he says. How about Scarlet ass hole. Lastly it was mentioned during Parsons recruitment many times that he was a risk for things he did in the past and the folks he hung with. So when he ran his mouth that cemented the idea of trouble and not worth the trouble he might bring down the road.
Penn State is a rival but niot The rival. Illinois is a rival, Sparty is a rival but The Game is the biggest rival, I think Penn State is a rival by proximity just not the biggest rival.
When you do not have the brain power to come up with your own tag line you can always steal Marshall's we are.
PSU has a much lower in state SAT/GPA admission requirement than out of state. So, essentially PSU uses out of student students to pump up its overall published SAT/GPA stats.
I was at Wegmans yesterday in NJ w my wife. Both of us wearing Buckeye t shirts. A guy in a PSU hat walks by and says, 'were gonna clobber you'. I said 'I just hope its an injury free, competitive game, should be fun'.
After, I turned to my wife after and say, 'only a PSU loser would say were gonna clobber you as his way to say essentially he is excited about the game'.
#WeAre doesn't even make me think of PSU. That's a Marshall University thing.
11.) They blatantly steal gimmicks from other teams- the Winnipeg Jets’ White-Out, Duke’s Krzyzewskiville and Marshall’s “We Are!” chant- and try to pass them off as their own. Then again, you can hardly blame them when their own actual tradition only dates back to the late 50s- and much of it is still unmentionable in polite society.
12.) The arrogance. The holier-than-thou, finger-wagging, delusional arrogance. If there’s any defining, detestable characteristic of Penn State football that’s been a constant over the years, it’s that. This entire program was literally founded as a planned cult compound built around the idea that they are the only ones who achieve “Success With Honor”, and their fans waste no opportunity to remind everyone of that notion on a constant basis. You would think that the last 7 years would have taught these people some humility, but, if anything, all they have done is added a sense of InfoWars-esque paranoia to their fantasy world.
PSU fan base. Pffffft.
Bobbing for french fries.
Wow. Just wow.
I hope we dump 100 points so these punks can piss their pants and go home to cry in mommy's basement.
One reason I hate them is because my mom lived in Pennsylvania once, so now she likes them, and wants them to do well, but I hate Penn State and their fans' cockiness. They beat us on a blocked field goal when we actually should have won that game going away, then they beat App St in overtime while giving up 38 points, then give up 24 to Illinois, and some of their fans think they're going to hold us to 21 points AND blow us out. Like, come on guys, be more reasonable than that. Don't get me wrong, I still love and respect my mom, but the arrogance of the Penn State fan base makes me not want to root for them
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
I can't believe the "lion roar" on first downs didn't make the list. That could be top 5 for this guy!
Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something.
I can't name one who doesn't think OSU is their rival come on be honest here. Pitt would be a perfect Rival but Paterno ducked them all those years for that reason. My fiancé manages the PSU book store in Sharon Pa. Shenango branch and I here that crap every time I go there to take her to lunch or say hi.
Desmond Howard picked PSU, as expected. So did the PSU alum guest picker, also as expected. But I was disappointed when Corso also picked them.
I hope they all have to eat humble pie.
Hate a school or a football team??? Hate is one of the ugliest words in the English language. I save "hate" for the likes of Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein.
I think the litmus test of what constitutes a rivalry is how you feel after a loss.
If PSU, Iowa or Wisconsin beats us, I'm upset for a day. If TTUN beats us, I'm upset for at least a week, then painfully waiting for the next year to get them back.
The primary reason I despise Penn State? Their fans. Checking out BSD a few times this week, I lost count of the number of times that Urban Meyer was referred to as an "abuse enabler". Again, these were Penn State fans. I absolutely hate their entire fanbase and hope we curbstomp their team tonight.
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
*I will add the caveat that the PSU fan posting in this thread seems ok enough. But PSU fans in large groups, particularly online, are just awful.
