VT still ranked? What a joke
They got dommed. Iowa gets very little respect this year from pollsters. They probably just lost the Big West by one score.
Really wanted Iowa to win out so we'd have a chance to avenge last year. They'd get absolutely rolled by the Bucks on a neutral field.
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
Gotta justify Clemson at 2 somehow. They've looked very avg so far this year against waaaaay lesser teams. Surprised they still at 2 seeing what bama did to a&m yesterday. Georgia didn't look great either
On Gameday Final, that idiot Jesse Palmer nor Danny Kannel were there. They had former UCLA coach Jim Mora instead. He did not have Clemson in the top 5. They have great recruits, like Ohio State. Known talent. But they are playing like crap. Which reminds me, I wonder if Stanley Jackson will remind Nicole Aurbach of her circular reasoning arguments regarding A&M and Clemson, and being high on both. Jackson told her the truth, Alabama was going to man handle them. And of course they did.
The SEC East could come down to who wins the Kentucky Georgia game and that’s crazy. It’s really weird seeing Kentucky in the top 20.
Thanks for nothing, TCU!
Also, Miss. State drops 5 spots after that massive turd against Kentucky? Just laughable.
My thoughts exactly. Mississippi State got smoked and they are still in the top 20.
Agree with TCU but HOW dies Texas jump 19 mf spots????
What we can't do in the air we'll do on the ground.
Well, for starters they just beat TCU by a larger margin than the #4 team in the country did.
They have back-to-back convincing, double digit wins over two Power Five programs that were ranked and considered good.

At Texas and we sat first and goal and let it go.
OSU gave up over 500 yards of offense to TCU and 28 points. Texas gave up 370 yards and 16 points.
I’m not saying Texas is better than OSU, because they benefitted from the Buckeyes wearing down TCU the week before. But after destroying USC and TCU in back-to-back weeks, why are people so surprised that 3-1 Texas, who’s only loss is to 3-1 Maryland, is ranked in the Top 25? We only have to go back to 2014 when the Buckeyes didn’t even drop out of the Top 25 after losing at home to Va Tech, and we’re climbing the ranks at 3-1 with wins over no one of national relevance.
I’m not saying Texas is better than OSU, because they benefitted from the Buckeyes wearing down TCU the week before.
Plus, TX got to see game film of OSU-TCU.
My favorite team? Whoever is playing TTUN.
Personally I don't like comparing games with rivals and non rivals. There tends to be a different effort.
And lost to big ten sisters of the poo Maryland. Yes poo.
You mean the Maryland team that just blew a huge hole in the bottom of previously undefeated Minnesota’s boat? The Maryland that’s 3-1? That Maryland?
Row the boat!
You make a great point. But Maryland has been starting out looking good only to reveal itself as a scud missle later in the season. If they prove to finally be a contender, will they ever be ranked ahead of Texas?
I hear you, but to prove they are a contender think who they have to beat...Us, PSU, MSU, TTUN....yeah, win that slate and have one loss and I'd be on the Maryland train.
Ain't going to happen, but that's what 'prove to be a contender' would be at this point.
The fact that Wisconsin is ranked as high as they are after losing to BYU at home could be questionable.
Losing to a ranked team at home is bad?
Auburn only dropped 2 spots and Oregon only 1 after losing at home to ranked teams. It’s probably more laughable that Wisconsin dropped so far.
Auburn lost in the final seconds to a traditional power in their conference who had also just beaten #8 Miami. Auburn already had a top win against #6 Washington. Oregon lost to a top Pac 12 team in #7 Stanford in a close game. Oregon also wasn't ranked nearly as high as Wisconsin, so they wouldn't drop as far. Those teams weren't gonna get crushed in the rankings given all of that.
Wisco lost to unranked BYU, a non-power 5 team that is not Notre Dame. BYU didn't even have a vote in either ranking, which means they were not in the top 45-50 at the time they beat Wisco. BYU received their ranking due to the win against Wisco. They were nowhere near the top 25 before that. BYU had also already lost at home to Cal. Wisconsin had no quality win at the time. The Wisconsin loss was a much worse loss than Auburn's or Oregon's. That's why they fell so far.
I believe Oregon even moved up a spot from 20 to 19 in the AP poll after losing. I know they lost to Stanford in OT, but we don't even know if Stanford is worth a shit to begin with. They've beaten San Diego State, USC, and UC Davis so far (and obviously Oregon).
I wish they wouldn't bother to rank teams until about week 6
"After coasting to a 33-point win over Tulane Saturday in Columbus, Ohio State remains at No. 4"
49-6 = 43
How is Oklahoma still number five? Shouldn't over time against a service academy count against them ?!?!
The mountains are calling, and I must go.
Only if their name is Ohio State.
Except for that time, in 2015 when OSU only beat Northern Illinois by 7 in Week Three and Western Michigan by 16 in Week Four, yet remained ranked #1.
Returning N.C. qb with Elliot and Thomas. Yeah you give that team a pass. Oklahoma just lost their Heisman winner. Not same.
Exactly. OSU has all that talent and only beat NIU by a TD. They literally had a chance to beat the most talented Buckeye team in history.
Why do we care that OU escaped a good service academy team and didn’t fall from 5th place? We would lose our minds if an undefeated OSU team dropped after a game like that. And which team would anyone rank above Oklahoma? LSU? Stanford? ND? PSU? They’ve all had a close game with a weak opponent in their first four games.
It comes down to how the voters look at it. They could rank the teams by best resume to that point or rank them by who they actually think would win if they played and who is the best team in their mind. Despite the ugly win against Army, a lot of people probably would still take Oklahoma against the teams below them right now if they had to play them. If the ranking is based on current resume then LSU, ND, and Stanford should all be ranked higher. I think its clear when looking at history, especially early in the season, voters tend to vote on who they think the best team actually is even if that team has an ugly win or two.
My point was that it was obvious that 2015 osu had top 5 talent and played below talent level. But there’s no reason to assume mayfield’s successor is equivalent especially after putting up 21 in reg v service academy.
In other words Oklahoma is ranked too damn high at this point. Period
Kentucky and Miss St being ranked, especially below 20, is a joke. Who has Miss St played? Then who has Kentucky played? The SEC East is worse than the B1G West
Sad thing is, UK could easily end the season with 1 loss with that schedule
"The SEC East is worse than the B1G West"
Never pull a Simple Jack.
Anything easy, ain't worth a damn.
But ESPN’s powers rankings have Ohio State #2 this week. I don’t understand.
What don't you understand about that?
I’ve been led to believe that there is an ESPN conspiracy to keep OSU out of the CFP. Why would their Power Ranking guy place the Buckeyes higher than the Coaches and AP Polls?
ESPN has a thing for Ohio State, no doubt about it. A company that size and worth that $$$$ is controlling it's product and making sure it's product says what they want. Finebaum, David Pollack Fowler, Booger, Matich.....yada yada, they aren't out there shooting from the hip. If ESPN didn't like what they are saying, they wouldn't be there saying it.
I would say there is more likely a veiled propaganda campaign against Ohio State, and most Big 10 Schools, from ESPN.
I was waiting to see how one of the ESPN hates us club members tried to spin this.
Lol. Fuck off Cincy.
Lol. Fuck off Cincy
Stay classy homie.
You aren't my homie.
You aren't my homie.
I know, my friends are classy and don’t tell strangers to “fuck off” because their feelings got hurt.
My feelings aren't hurt. I'm not your friend. I'm not here to convince everybody I'm right/you are wrong. I'm giving my opinion. And yes, you can fuck right off. Your snide comments of class, being a hater, spinning your obvious assertion, have been tiresome for years.
And your ESPN conspiracy bullshit has been tiresome just as long.
The thing is, have I ever told one of you conspiracy theorists to “fuck off” or questioned your OSU fandom or called you a closet UM fan or downvoted you just bc of your opinion(I’ve given 20 dvs inthe last 3 years). I get that crap constantly so what does that about your fragile emotional state?
Case in point, one of your dv trolls(likely from his burner account) has logged in and downvoted all of my comments in this thread. Again, says A LOT of character here. Have a classy day!
Are you an Ohio state fan? That’s the confusing thing to me.
Since my first game when Archie Griffin was a senior.
One can be a fan and be a realist at the same time.
Like, A Buckeye Realist?
After next weekend I think we'll learn more about some of these teams who could potentially go undefeated. Ohio St. at Penn St., Stanford at Notre Dame. There could be several teams undefeated at the end of the conference championship games vying for those final 4 spots. You could have Alabama, Clemson, OSU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame all 5 could go undefeated. Clemson and Notre Dame down the stretch don't play anybody that's good.
Like the prediction that OSU will be undefeated.
But ND, not so much.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
Kentucky and Duke in top 25. What sport is this?
Of interest, the largest gap in points among the top 12 is between #4 and #5.
Also, we are closer to #3 than #5.
Kentucky still has to play A&M, UGA and Mizzou. They’ll lose at least two of those three.
Miss State still has Auburn, LSU, A&M and Bama. I’m betting they lose 3 of 4.
No rankings before mid-October. We need to start a Change.org petition to get the AP and Coaches poll to stop this nonsense.
Or we could simply change our views of the polls pre-October....
Obviously major changes can take place if 40+ teams are receiving votes for the top 25. Would have to over 40 to know the movement of spots into the top 25 for Texas.
Always and forever, Go Bucks!
Or we could simply change our views of the polls pre-October....
That’s what my attempt at sarcastic humor was hoping to convey. Fans are complaining about the relative merits of these rankings, when the reality is they are going to change significantly between now and December. Many of these team have at least one or two losses coming.
While these rankings serve as an interesting peek into what the voters are thinking, it’s no secret they (the voters) are captives of the moment (UK & Miss St), who react wildly to a single loss (SCar, Mich State, Wisc and others have dropped double digits after a loss), and who’ve only demonstrated consistency in voting inconsistently.
You are spot on and I totally missed that in your first comment. I appreciate your comments!
These polls still have too many head scratchers for me. Hopefully the CFP Committee exercises more sense. I won't be holding my breath though.
Petitions don’t do anything. The polls aren’t going to stop happening before October. Just don’t pay attention to them
Sometimes the sarcasm is so thick you forget to use italics.
My question is, who is the lone coach that's voted the Buckeyes #1 since the start of the season?
The only hard day was yesterday
Texas Tom....would be my guess. He is mensa smart
Nope Texas Tom and Urban are not on good terms like AT ALL
You WIN with people.
Let’s see. Anyone on this list who jumps right out at you?
Blake Anderson, Arkansas State; Major Applewhite, Houston; Dino Babers, Syracuse; Mike Bloomgren, Rice; John Bonamego, Central Michigan; Terry Bowden, Akron; Jeff Brohm, Purdue; Neal Brown, Troy; Troy Calhoun, Air Force; Rod Carey, Northern Illinois; Bill Clark, Alabama-Birmingham; Dave Clawson, Wake Forest; Geoff Collins, Temple; David Cutcliffe, Duke; Mark Dantonio, Michigan State; Bob Davie, New Mexico; Butch Davis, Florida International; Dana Dimel, Texas-El Paso; DJ Durkin, Maryland; Herm Edwards, Arizona State; Luke Fickell, Cincinnati; Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M; P.J. Fleck, Minnesota; James Franklin, Penn State; Willie Fritz, Tulane; Scott Frost, Nebraska; Justin Fuente, Virginia Tech; Turner Gill, Liberty; Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State; Bryan Harsin, Boise State; Clay Helton, Southern California; Tom Herman, Texas; Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia; Mike Jinks, Bowling Green; Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech; Brad Lambert, Charlotte; Mike Leach, Washington State; Lance Leipold, Buffalo; Tim Lester, Western Michigan; Seth Littrell, North Texas; Rocky Long, San Diego State; Chad Lunsford, Georgia Southern; Mike MacIntyre, Colorado; Gus Malzahn, Auburn; Doug Martin, New Mexico State; Urban Meyer, Ohio State; Jeff Monken, Army; Dan Mullen, Florida; Pat Narduzzi, Pittsburgh; Ken Niumatalolo, Navy; Jay Norvell, Nevada; Barry Odom, Missouri; Ed Orgeron, LSU; Gary Patterson, TCU; Chris Petersen, Washington; Bobby Petrino, Louisville; Nick Saban, Alabama; Scott Satterfield, Appalachian State; Kirby Smart, Georgia; Rick Stockstill, Middle Tennessee; Charlie Strong, South Florida; Dabo Swinney, Clemson; Jeff Tedford, Fresno State; Kyle Whittingham, Utah; Everett Withers, Texas State.
True they couldn't suspend him from voting :) .
Buckeye by birth. Christian by 2nd birth. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1
I don't think it's Urban; maybe Fickell?
You may be correct, but I absolutely think that’s OSU’s vote. If you asked Coach Meyer right now which team he thinks is the best in CFB, my guess is he says OSU.
Chris Ash would be my guess. He would have to be thinking tOSU is the best team in the country.
Here's one thing about these polls (AP/Coach) that "don't mean anything to the selection committee". The selection committee always refers to teams having "played ranked teams" early in the season to justify where they rank teams for their own poll. That is when they justify two close teams.
Texas ir ranked and Maryland is not. More proof voters hate the Big Ten.
Never forget how we got screwed in 98
Looks like proof to me that the voters like the blue-bloods. Texas is a card-carrying blue blood, and Maryland will likely never be one. Texas also beat USC, also a blue-blood with long history. The win over TCU also looks good since TCU flirts with that status.
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
We need an upset or 3 above us. That's our way to move up. High profile game against PSU on the road is in our favor for making a statement. Hopefully we speak clearly and with much volume.
JMO, but do not think we "need" any help at all. Hell, we would be in the CFP if it started tomorrow. If we go 13-0, we are a lock and probably the #2 seed (this is me assuming Bama/Georgia goes into the CFP at 13-0). Clemson's schedule is Charmin soft and it would be laughable if we do not jump them going 13-0.
Harbaugh puts ketchup on his steak.
1.) How does Va Tech not drop out after getting kicked in the nuts?
2.) How does oklahoma not drop after not "handling" army?
3.) I was regretfully wrong about Iowa winning the west. Kudos to wiskey, if they can handle loosing to the good guys again, more power to em.....
