I have a lot of confidence in Ryan day over this three game stretch.
a chip kelly endorsement does nothing for me, thankfully I believed in day before chip said anything
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Chip Kelly is an absolute genius, but I agree a coach giving one of his former assistants an endorsement shouldn’t do much for anyone
Along with being a massive Buckeye loyalist, I'm also a long time Philadelphia Eagles fan, so my perspective on Chip is a tad different than most.
That is because you don’t appreciated that CFB and the NFL are about as similar as apples are to caburetors. Two totally different animals. Chip talks about the qualifications of someone as coach of a college team, I am very interested. As a NFL coach, no so much.
You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.
My confidence has nothing to do with Kelly. It has to do with the players and coaches around him. We will be fine. Even if he loses to TCU Urban may have as well.
Run - I don't mean to be a smartass, but Chip Kelly isn't coaching in the NFL. What he did or didn't do with the Eagles has nothing to do with how much of a genius he is when it comes to the college game.
It just keeps getting closer to game day! No one can stop it. It is coming! I think I will once again enjoy a day where there is just one thing to focus on. Winning!!!
And there's a rumor that something pretty similar will occur again next week.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
Do we call this Saturday “Game day”, or should it be “Day game”?

There can be only one
UCF and fans had their 15 minutes of fame; now it’s back to life in the second tier of college football programs.
The thing I was most interested to see this season was if Urban could utilize the playbook more vs all the designed QB runs the past few seasons. We as fans are going to be in a bind if Day opens up the toolbox a little the first 3 weeks then Urban comes back and starts running the legs off the QB again.
I hear you there - but let's cross that bridge when we get to 3-0 :)
I am actually hoping that Day will be a little more creative with all he talent assembled and that will give Meyer real game data show that it works. Clearly, you can't complain about Urban's record while at OSU, but he was definitely in a rut with JT and the designed QB runs. If Day opens it up a bit, there may be a tendency for Urban to have a, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. We'll see.
"Because the rules won't let you go for three." - Woody Hayes
THE Ohio State University
Meyer and Day have both said they mold their offence around the QB's skill set. Run more with Barrett, throw more with the Haskins' cannon.
Beat the Beavers
m GO BLOW!!!
It’s loke you guys don’t understand that open it up will definitely mean more turnovers. Guess I have been watching football too long.
Fear the nut, I understand that. Believe me, I would rather win the game and do what works over and over again than get creative and lose. However, don't blame me for human nature. I was never one to get a new toy and leave it in a box on the shelf. I want to play with it and see it in action.
He ran the legs off the QB because of who our QB was and how reliable he was as a runner. It just seems like that's his "thing" because JT was our QB for 9 years. And it was Miller before that. If he tries the same thing with Haskins, a QB with a very obviously different skillset, it will call into question all his accolades as a head coach.
Meyer has forgotten more about how to call a game than you will EVER know.
You WIN with people.
Is that because of the meds or...
Leave one wolf alive....and the sheep are never safe
I just can't see the designed QB run happening too much this year with Haskins taking the snaps. He's not that kind of QB. I'm not saying he can't run because we saw him make a couple good decisions in that TTUN game but I don't want to see him run the ball more than 2-3 times a game.
“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.”
Guys, Urban will be able to be with the team in a week. He will have a big say in how the offense looks, even if it's WIlson and Day calling the plays through the TCU game.
What that means? I don't know. But I have to think it's not going to be some huge obvious switch when Urban comes back to the sideline.
Let's get it on.
One thing that I have noticed is that Day hasn't said much this entire fall..no injury updates, who's standing out more, etc..he doesn't want to comment on this story..dude's low key, I like it..actions speak louder than words..let's go kick some ass, it's game week boys!!!
Every time I see Day’s rosy cheeks, I ponder if he and Aaron Craft are related.
Here’s one for you: who is the football version of AC?
My vote is on Zach Boren. Willingness to do anything for the team, good player, great person.
The Bucks Guy
JT Barrett. Both beat guys caused Michigan fan meltdowns on multiple occassions and the most common thing I heard from other fanbases about them is "That guy is still around?!"
For some reason, I picture him with Will Ferrell in an elf suit.
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
I'll say it: I'm sick of UCF. I loved everything about their win over Auburn, and was even amused by the initial national championship claim, but everything after that has made them absolutely unbearable in my mind.
I love it. Auburn beat Bama and Georgia. UCF went undefeated. I hate the SEC so much that I will endorse a national championship from any team not named Michigan.
Fitzbuck | Toledo - Ohio's right armpit | "A troll by any other name is still a troll".
I’m with you, Fitz. And I’m not convinced Scott Frost’s team wouldn’t have held their own in the CFP last year. Not saying they would've won, but they would’ve given every team there a game.
This was the sentiment I came to the comments to offer.

I totally agree with Kevin in that Urbans value comes as the CEO of the program. Keeping the entire ship headed in the right direction so to speak. I think in the short term, this team will be fine. In fact, given Urbans penchant for going ultra conservative when things get tight on game day, we might even see some improvement in the play calling should the TCU game be closer than we expect. Although, I fully expect him to open things up this year. He's going to be angry and I hope he takes it out on every opponent the team sees. I also hope Ryan Day runs up the score these first three weeks. No mercy.

My money is on someone from ESPN. Tho Doug Lesmerises gets a dishonorable mention.
You put up one helluva fight, offseason....but it's time for you to go.
I’m willing to concede that the offseason got the W this year.
The afterglow still comes to an end.
Actually looking forward to football only threads...and I understand the risks involved in taking that chance.
Offseason will be back. It always comes back.
1. I share Chip Kelly's confidence that Ryan Day will be habile.
2. I'd love to know the NCAA's reasoning for including UCF as a national champion. I know of no organization other than UCF that considers them as such. At least the 1970 Buckeyes had the Macarthur Foundation.
3. Game day forecast continues to show 85 and chance of thunder.
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
The basis of UCF’s claim is it finished No. 1 in the Colley Matrix, which is based on of the rankings and formulas recognized by the NCAA. But if you look at all the champions preceding 2017, Colley isn’t cited as a supporting reason for any of them. So either it’s a new standard independent of all other rankings or the NCAA is bowing to pressure. Just wait until it happens again.

4. More players dancing videos. It was nice to see them having fun.
If OSU counted all its Retro National Titles we would have 16. I'm truly glad we don't count em like Pitt, Alabama, USC and Michigan do. Retro Titles are garbage as are lesser selectors.
Is good enough. Even though I believe OSU has a legit claim for 1916 and 1944. But I'm fine without them.
"Woody is a God-fearing man. It's good to know that he's afraid of somebody."
Boss Doggs is gone? I had no idea. Thanks for ruining my day Kevin.
They're all chickens. The rooster has sex with all of them.
I remember two boss Doggs. One was packer fan who had really strong opinion about the NFC north who camped out in front of the chemistry building, the other was a dolphins fan who was near the bookstore. Packers fan was a soup nazi and got annoyed by everything.
High and tight boo boo
I remember the Pakcer’s guy. He was always in shorts, even in February.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
Ha, if it's the same guy from 2002-2006 who was outside of Bolz Hall (across from Dreese) I must have bought over 100 fajita burritos from that fella. It was my go to lunch in between Aero classes for years.
I'm interested in seeing what Day can do with the team, a fresh set of eyes in control isn't a bad thing. as long as it ends up in a win. But judging from the way he's handled things so far, i don't see him rocking the boat too much.

I think Day will be fine, and while I think we're lucky to have him as a coach, the thing that concerns me is one person on the sidelines calling the plays and having head coaching duties (clock management, challenges, etc.)
The Browns went 0-16 with this formula, granted they are the Browns, but it is not the best system imo.
Hopefully by TCU, Day is comfortable -this will not be an easy task for Day or anyone, even with this roster.
A positive though is Day won't have to worry about Meyer overriding any of his decisions.
Thank you Urban Meyer and Gene Smith
To be fair, the Browns did it without another OC. Ryan Day has the benefit of Kevin Wilson as the Co-OC. We are in a situation where one of our two OC's gets promoted to HC and the one that didn't get promoted has 2 Heisman winners on his OC resume.
Excellent point ..hopefully they have a good operations plan between the two of them. Go Bucks!
Edit.. said the same thing as you
I could be wrong but didn’t Tressel call all the plays? He did it from the sideline and it worked out alright I would say.
Let's Go BUCKEYES!!!!!
"Hopefully by TCU, Day is comfortable-this will not be an easy task for Day or anyone, even with this roster"
The good news is after the Oregon State game Coach Meyer will be running the practices again and Day can concentrate solely on his job as QB Coach/Co-OC, until game day for the Rutgers and TCU games.
I had to look up Colley poll just to see who actually crowned UCF the champs. Turns out it is the Colley Matrix, a former BCS computer. So UCF, I am glad you dusted Auburn, but now go away.
Dating in Afghanistan just sounds ducky after reading that wmd. Fake profiles on Facebook of the opposite sex to lure the opposite sex? Color me confused.
Oregon State will not know what hit them in only a few days. Kinda like Colorado State this past Saturday who capitulated at home to Hawaii. Just take care of business fellas.
"They say, "these geeks come a dime a dozen. I'm lookin' for the guy who's supplyin' the dimes." -Classy Freddie Blassie
Just about everything about living in Afghanistan sounds ducky. Honor killings are still a thing there so this could be a very risky proposition for young women.
I think if I were forced to reside in Afghanistan, I would be just fine without a significant other, or ever talking to anyone. To paraphrase Woody et all, 3 things can happen and two (or in this case maybe all three) are bad. Biding my time quietly and alone sounds like a plan.
A lot of people on reddit noticed that UCF was #1 in the Colley Matrix back in January and talked about how they are legit champions because they are an official championship selector or whatnot. Seeing it officially in the record books isn't a huge surprise.

On the Mandel and Feldman podcast, beyond Mandel's usual handwringing and "what about the victims?" Without any explanation, Mandel said he thinks OSU is going 9-3 or 8-4 now because of all the distractions.
i wish I could get money on that.
Boggles my mind that he gets paid to analyze football. The "distraction" part is over. Nick Bosa is not going to be charging at McSorely, suddenly get distracted by Zach Smith and fall on his face. Austin Mack is not going to get distracted and tip a pass into the defenders hands because Meyer's situation was up in the air before the season started.
The only people who are distracted will be the reporters and analysts feigning outrage all season.
Mandel is huge hater. I've had the unfortunate opportunity of seeing most of his tweets since Zach Smith stuff started happening, I'd say he's easily up there with some of the worst known buckeye haters.
When choosing between Ohio state and Alabama last year I would have preferred they not pick either and went with UCF for the fourth spot. Sure maybe they didn’t belong but they “deserved” it more than a non league champ Alabama whose best win was a some how ranked #25 Fresno State or OSU with that nasty Iowa loss... Cinderella stories can happen and it is college football.
I rather thought the point of the playoff was for Cinderella to get a chance to go to the ball.
You've got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.
You forget that Alabama also won its own spring game against another SEC team. That must have factored into it.
I'm sure there will be a few "JT would've made that play" moments this season. It's kinda unfair to Haskins BUT a lot of y'all put him in this position. The comparisons will be inevitable.
To be fair I'm sure there will also be several "JT could never have made that play" moments as well. They are just different QBs with different skillsets.
No, you’re pigeon-holing Dwayne into that position so you can have a bunch of “gotcha” moments when Dwayne inevitably makes a mistake. This is about the 50th post I’ve seen you doing this.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Nah. I just don't want the goalposts to be moved.
Don't worry Stan, if Dwayne throws late to a triple covered receiver thats only 5 yards away and it results in a pick 6 on the first play of a game, we all promise to get on his case just like we did when JT did it. The goal posts are in the same place. Relax.
Oh, is Haskins the starter? I hadn't heard.
My Christmas is in 5 days. I cant tell you how excited and anxious I am!! AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Kiss my ass offseason.
9-0 and a chance to go 10-0...
Best take I will read today
I was just pondering about one of my favorite teams Appalacian State. They open up this year against Penn State. I know it's most likely a pipe dream, but what if eh?
Beat the Beavers!
I have a vague recollection of that happening some years ago to a highly rated team. Hmmm, when was that? Darned CRS.
I have the upmost confidence in Coach Day. Kevin, are you really triggered by UCF? Go Bucks!
1) I love how Dontre says is a great time to be a 'sports investor'. Not sure that's what I'd call it.
2) What the hell happened to Boss Doggs? They were the go-to in the mid-90s.
Why does Dublin have so many round-abouts? Because everyone in Dublin thinks they have the right-of-way.
Fields of Dreams
Chip Kelly was Day’s offensive coordinator at New Hampshire?
When Day was a player.
including a rotational meal based on each visiting team.
so they are serving shit for the Michigan game?
Maybe they should serve chicken?
For giggles, I looked up the food service vendor for Michigan Stadium. Sodexo, who was fined by the state last year for illegally selling liquor , including to minors during soccer tournaments held in 2016 at the stadium, LOL, Michigan , of course, has continued to contract with them.
Anyway, some of the fine choices there this year will be hot dog pasty's. Or , new this year, is French fry poutine. ( for those who don't live as close to Canada, poutine is some sort of potato mix piled with gravy, cheese and anything else your ready to throw out of the refrigerator) . A few food carts will be available, with tacos, etc.
Not even remotely like the choices available at OSU via Levy. The photos on the Sodexo U of M Stadium facebook page of the food offerings is illuminating, LOL. Industrial food on sterioids.
No, that sandwich was served up about a month ago.
Are we not going to talk about that amazing video made by the OSU creative media team? Those guys are the absolute best at what they do, I have watched the video no less than 20 times.
Me too. This one was fun and made you feel like "oh, this team is having a good time, and people might be doubting us, but WE believe in ourselves. Let's get to the field."
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
I love the fact that Day is not one that wants to 'become the story' with the way he is handling this issue. Makes me think that if we go 3-0 he will get a lot of phone calls in his future
The food options look good, hopefully the students will only need one loan to get it instead of two...
"BLOOD. THIRSTY. BUCKEYES."
I wonder if they’ll let the students use their BuckID to buy food at the stadium.
UFM'S "Coaching Tree"...past, & present speaks for itself...and will continue before, during, & after 3 game suspensions.
Well, should that in or exclude present Tx. HC blow ?
I’m sure Day is a great person, but when he smiles I can’t stop myself from thinking he looks like Jim Carey’s the grinch when he smiles. It’s uncanny.
"I spent 90 percent of my money on women and drink. The rest I wasted." - George Best
Or Jack Nicholson's "Joker" portrayal. Creepy...
I'm a peacock Captain, you gotta let me fly!!
Angry Skully today, Kevin. Cheer up, amigo, it’s almost football time.
I guess it was lol. There's always something to be angry about.
Food options look great, but several of those things look like a mess to try and eat in close quarters in the stadium.
My thoughts exactly. It does look pretty tasty though.
Excited for game week.
2014 TCU would've crushed Florida State and Oregon.
I will never “tire” of the UCF National Championship. What a throwaway line to assume they’d have lost to any of the playoffs teams. That’s kinda the point. I don’t want to run through the “they beat x that beat y,” but the fact of the matter is they did. In a world where the ESPN-led sports media can game two SEC teams into the playoffs and leave the best conference statistically out, IDGAF. UCF could have easily beaten one if not all of those teams. Who knows? They beat Auburn and Auburn beat Alabama. Wisconsin was the real screw job.
"Ohio State isn't even a top-10 team without Urban Meyer!"
In football, coaches are FAR more important than they are in other sports. They're also far more involved in the actual outcome of the game than they are in other sports. Urban Meyer is critical to the operation, no doubt. Having said that, Ohio State easily has top three talent nationally, two former successful college head coaches, and one former NFL head coach on staff, so saying they aren't a top 10 team flies in the face of common sense. A take like Mandel's is reason 578 why people view the press with disdain. Collectively, that group is right up there with big pharma, career politicians, and the insurance industry as most hated in America
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
I was reading a Bill Connelly (S&P+) article recently, and he pointed out the high number of college football games that essentially boil down to one series. That’s the difference between winning and losing.
So, to your point, in-game decisions by coaches count for a helluva lot in college football.
Why does everyone flip out if someone doesn't think OSU is going to win the Big Ten? The east is stacked. 9-3 isn't that crazy. That easily could have been our record last year even with all the talent on the team.
Because every OSU fan view should be thru scarlet and gray glasses.
Saturday is going to be awesome. Will watch the game while perch fishing on lake Erie.
I think todays press conference is Meant to help get the focus of the other crap that will be brought up after the win against Oregon ST. It's a testament to Urban that the program can run without him.
Football and a Depth Chart full of ORs will be upon us in a day or two.
Just think, we can then transition to gnashing of the teeth because fan fave A isn’t starting, and Joe Schmoe is, all the while knowing that player B is going to be a stud based on what he did prior to OSU.
And Meyer, oh wait, Day is playing favorites with the more senior guys ahead of the young pups. Lol!
Love the sound of game week. And I'm so excited to watch all facets of this team, including the influence of coach Grinch.
Boss Doggs is gone?! Now I am upset. I ran the one stand in front of the Chemistry Building for the Winter and Spring quarters of 2002 ( I am not the annoying Packer fan, Go Bears.) One of the best jobs I had. I thought I was rich with what I was making as a poor college student. I could go for a chicken fajita right now.
You win with people.
UCF fans are becoming about as annoying as michigan fans - Not sure what is worse, claiming a fake title or talking about how great you are because of your titles before the great depression. As a season ticket holder to USF (married an alum) and Buckeye since birth, nothing would please me more that both michigan and ucf going winless
*ichiganian by birth but a Buckeye by the grace of God.
Just a question: Where is the press conference available? Online? BTN?

I’m not sure why but Ryan Day looks like a Bond villain in the article pic. 50% creepy, 50% evil, 50% genius. Sorry about the math...I went to an SEC school.
It's okay, R79er, like Yogi Berra said: "It's 90% mental and the other half is physical."
