If only there was a comprehensive preview of the big ten outlook somewhere. Oh well.
High and tight boo boo
Yes, but that's not a thread for the sole purpose of asking people what their predictions are going to be. Why don't you leave the moderating to the moderators. Unnecessary, my dude.
Thank you, Guts! Why is it such an issue to create a new thread on this website? I am so sick of reading threads about the ongoing investigation and thought this was a legitimate thread for people to give their predictions. Mine usually suck but I like to go back and look at the end of the season to see how I did.
No problem. Likewise, I don't make very many threads because I feel mine are usually too simple to really garner any attention. But, sometimes simple is good. After all the shenanigans of the past couple of weeks, something like this is refreshing.
Right. I don't start threads on 11w primarily because it seems quite unwelcome and often treated as burdensome. Probably for the best in my case, though.
Sorry guys I was mixing my ambiens with boone's farm again.
Happens to the best of us.
I don't believe all the hype about Michigan State. Unfortunately, I think their little sister in Ann Arbor may be much improved this season. Their O-line might actually have learned how to block. I hope not though
I think their defense is unremarkable. I think they'll put some points up on O, though, as they have some playmakers.
Yesterday I re watched last years games against Mich State and Nebraska and it was so lopsided. I can't imagine either of those teams beating us this year.
I think TTUN will be much improved on the offensive side of the ball this season. Unfortunately for them, so will we! Also, like Bringthejuice said I am not buying the hype for MSU at all. They're bringing back 19 starters, but those same 19 starters got thumped 48 to 3 by us last season. Are they really that improved? I think not.
As for the west. Same ol', same ol'.
EDIT: I was reading over my post and it got me thinking... When does thumping Wisconsin for a Big Ten Championship start to lose it's importance in regards to reaching the College Football Playoff? They play a powder puff schedule every season then promptly get smacked by the Big Ten East Champ. I think at this point the Committee probably cares more about a team running through the gauntlet that is the Big Ten East. Thoughts?
So ling as the Big Ten East is a gauntlet, beating whoever wins the West is fine... so long as you don't shit the bed against Iowa for a second loss.
Yeah. Nobody cares that the SEC East has been a sham in recent years.
And....I wouldn't throw shade at WI this year - or any year. One of the steadiest programs in cf.
They have been one series of downs away from beating Penn State two years and OSU last year from going to the cf playoff. Like I said, no shade from me.
I’ve read several preseason articles that is saying this is the best Wisky team Crist has had, so while I get the sentiment, but as long as they continue to get wins like LSU a couple years ago and I think Miami in their bowl game last year, they’ll still carry weight.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Big Ten Champ game hopefully, again, indoors thus year. OSU speed really shows indoors.
My best guess:
EAST: 1) OSU 2) MSU 3)UM 4)PSU 5)Maryland 6) IU 7) Rutgers
WEST: 1) Wisconsin 2) Northwestern 3) Iowa 4) Nebraska 5) Purdue 6) Minnesota 7) Illinois
In the East I hear what a lot of y'all are saying about the MSU hype and how bad we beat them last year. I dont think its all hype though! They improved last year dramatically from the year before, and there is no reason to think they wont be better this year. Mark Dantonio is a good coach, and he has proven he can get that program to play at an elite level. I think UM will be better than last year but not better than us or MSU. Also I think PSU slides a little bit after losing their 3 best playmakers on offense. They will still be tough, just not good enough to finish at the top of this tough a division this year. OSU will prove once again that the cream finds a way to rise to the top!
In the West, well its Wisky as usual! I don't know why but I really think Northwestern will be a tough team this year. Just a feeling I have, I have to admit though I've thought that before and they didn't prove me right! I think Nebraska will be much improved but not enough in year one of Frost to overtake Iowa and Northwestern just yet. However I do believe in 2019 Frost will have them banging on the wests door with only Wisconsin in the way. Purdue is the wildcard? They impressed me last year, I'm just not sure they have the talent on the roster just yet to climb any higher than last year?
Enjoying this thread gave me something else to think about besides the soap opera crap! LOL
I think UM makes a huge improvement this year, with perhaps the best defense in the country plus a competent offense. Ohio State will perform at a top ten level offensively and defensively, just like they did last year. MSU is even better than last year. Penn State regresses significantly after losing Morehead, Barkley, Hamilton, and Gesicki. Morehead might be the biggest loss of these four.
East: 1.) OSU 2.) UM 3.) MSU 4.) PSU 5.) IU 6.) RU 7.) MD
The West division is tougher to predict. UW will repeat, Purdue will continue their ascension. Minnesota might surprise some people. NW will have a down year.
West 1.) UW 2.) PU 3.) MINN 4.) NEB 5.) IOWA 6.) NW 7.) ILL
Agreed on the NW down year. They haven't this weird way of going 10 wins one year, then 5-7 or 7-5 the next, then back to 10. Last year was 10 wins, so I'm going with 7-5 for them this year.
Here are my predictions
Ohio State 12-0 (9-0)
Michigan 10-2 (8-1)
Penn State 10-2 (7-2)
Michigan State 9-3 (6-3)
Maryland 5-7 (3-6)
Indiana 4-8 (1-8)
Rutgers 4-8 (1-8)
Wisconsin 10-2 (7-2)
Iowa 9-3 (6-3)
Purdue 7-5 (4-5)
Minnesota 6-6 (4-5)
Nebraska 6-6 (3-6)
Northwestern 4-8 (2-7)
Illinois 2-10 (0-9)
Ohio State over Wisconsin
I think you are spot on. I would just exchange Iowa for Nebraska. I am definitely buying Neb and Purdue this year. Nebraska just has such a tough schedule - OSU, Ttun, msu in cross division play. Maybe they win 7-8 games
Nebraska just has too much of a brutal schedule, plus they're likely to start a true freshman at QB.
East: tOSU, Spartie, TTUN, PSU, RU, IU, Maryland
West: Wiscy; Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Nebraska, Gophers, Illinois
I think the East comes down to OSU vs. TSUN. I’m giving the edge to the good guys, but TSUN is good this year.
I season my simple food with hunger
I think Michigan is by far the second best team in the conference, behind OSU. MSU and a Wisc are a bit overrated PSU will be good again.
drop-off after MSU.
I think UM has at most 1 loss coming into Columbus. They have a great defense, and like it or not, Patterson is a decent playmaker who can spread the ball around. People-Jones and Tarik Black are big time talents at WR and their two fast RBs (Higden and Evans) are both pretty good. I think UM could be very good.
PSU will b good again. McSorley is good, and they have talent at the skill positions. I think Miles Sanders steps in for Barkley without much of a drop off, and they have a couple of WRs to step up (Johnson, frosh Shorter).
Wisc is Wisc. They are just solid everywhere but lack top end talent and speed. They will run through the West, but will have trouble with more talented teams. I think they get stuffed in Ann Arbor.
MSU is generally somewhat like Wisconsin. Very solid but lacking high end talent. Should have a solid defense, will be scrappy. But I just do not see the weapons and talent that the big 3 in the east have. Thier recent run of success against UM will come to an end this year.
After that I see not much else. Is Northwestern the next best team? Purdue? Pretty average teams.
East: Michigan, OSU, PSU, MSU, RU, IU, Maryland
West: Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Northwestern, Iowa, Purdue, Illinois
I think Michigan beats Wisconsin in the B1G title game and goes to the playoff.
"In America, anyone can become president. That's the problem." George Carlin
UV to offset the silly DVs.
Come on guys, it’s the man’s prediction. Don’t hate.
The thing that warrants the DVs in this is that he picked TTUN to finish higher than us in the division, and this is an Ohio State fan site. This means they'd have to beat us or we have two B1G losses. That, and Michigan has finished no higher than third every year. I didn't DV, but I don't question the DVs. This is an Ohio State fan site.
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
Yes, this is an Ohio State fan site but that doesn’t mean we have to feel intimidated into suppressing our true feelings and spew dogma we don’t believe. That’s the definition of communism. As a famous man once said, “it’s not really a democracy if there isn’t at least one dissenting vote.”
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
That's not what I was saying. He can say what he wants, that's fine. But picking TTUN to finish ahead of Ohio State on an Ohio State fan site is what made some people downvote him. I'm all for expressing your true opinion, but saying TTUN will finish higher than Ohio State is saying they'll beat us in The Game
That’s not at all what he’s saying. It’s entirely possible that OSU could beat Michigan and still not win or tie for the division.
People are welcome to downvote for disagreeing but you’ve more than suggested he deserves downvotes because he spoke heretically, as if he denied the existence of God while standing in a church’s sacristy.
You can’t have it both ways—to claim someone’s entitled to express their opinion just as long as it conforms to conventional thinking. That’s when society goes sideways.
For the record, I want Ohio State to run the table and win the national championship--isn't that what every OSU fan wants every year? I just don't think this is our year, primarily because of the situation with Urban. I do think Urban comes back this year, but I think he gets a 3/4 game suspension. His absence from the team is a distraction and, I believe, will negatively affect the team's development and chemistry. Additionally, while I think Haskins is a solid QB, he is still a first year starter and I believe he will have some growing pains. I think we lose 2 of the 3 games to Michigan/Penn State/Michigan State.
Michigan has a solid D with 9 returning starters. They have the transfer Patterson at QB and Ed Warriner coaching their O-line. I just think they have all the pieces for a great team this year, and none of the off-the-field issues of OSU.
I didn't DV but holy crap I hope you're wrong!
Iowa wins the west. You heard it here first. Then, OSU beats them 77-3 in Indy in route to CFP bearth.....
"Life is not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. THATS HOW WINNING IS DONE!!" - Rocky Ballboa
You said it first but you only beat me by 30 minutes. They have some unproven pieces but every team does. Nathan Stanley stands on the verge of becoming the best QB in the West, if not the B1G. TEs Fant and Hockenson showed what they can do against us last year; Fant's arguably the best TE in CFB. If they can find a RB and their back seven steps up on defense, they can make a run. And their schedule is very favorable--Wisconsin in September at home to open B1G play, UMD, Indiana and PSU as cross-division games, which means they avoid OSU, MSU, and Michigan. Wisconsin, on the other hand, plays at both Michigan and PSU.
East - 1.) Ohio State 2.) TTUN 3.) MSU 4.) PSU 5.) Maryland 6.) IU 7.) Rutgers
West - 1.) Wisconsin 2 ) Northwestern 3.) Minnesota 4.) Purdue 5.) Nebraska 6.) Iowa 7.) Illinois
BTN Championship Game - Ohio State beats Wisconsin 45-13.
1)OSU 2)tie MSU, UM, PSU5)Indiana 6)tie Maryland and Rutgers. This could be Wisconsin's year to break through.
With Fleck, Brohm and Frost the west is gonna improve big time. That division will be very competitive in two years. Fleck will need a year more to recruit some talent. Both of the kids competing for the QB position are young and have no D1 experience. Northwestern and Iowa better step up their game though or risk falling behind. I do expect Iowa to be better than most folks seem to think and they get Wisky at home.
Montana Silver Bullet
We could see another battle of undefeated teams the last weekend in November. Warriner should have that Oline at the least competent. Can't wait to watch the UM vs. UW game, should be a slobber knocker. I think UM will beat up on ND
I honestly am not being the hype for TTUN this year. Sure, they got Patterson, but it takes more than one player to win games. I may be a bit low on them, but i think they'll go 5-7.
As for my Big Ten predictions, I think we'll face Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship. I may be a little too high on them, but they had a lot of momentum at the end of last season, and if they carry that momentum over, I think they can knock off Wisconsin.
i think they'll go 5-7
... and search for a new coach? There's no way Harbaugh would survive that. Bold prediction.
Unrealistic prediction. That defense will be flat freaking nasty. The offense will be better, may not be great but they could have beat us last year with a competent QB.
That is ridiculous.
I agree, but I love how this guy thinks!
I may be crazy, but how about this?
East Champion: Ohio State
West Champion: Northwestern
Buckeyes to the CFP.
Tailgate Fare Historical Archive
Awesome- why high on Northwestern? I feel like with the recent coaching changes in the west over the past few years that they are the big sleeper here.
Coming off of a 10 win season last year, and they've been trending upward, so I think the money they're pouring into their beautiful new facilities is going to translate on the field.
OSU, MSU, PSU, TTUN, IND, RUT, MD
WIS, NW, NEB, IOWA, PUR, MIN, ILL
OSU 31 WIS 20
East: 1) Ohio State 2) MSU 3) Penn State 4) TTUN 5) Maryland 6) Rutgers 7) Indiana
West: 1) Wisconsin 2) NW 3) Iowa 4) Purdue 5) Neb 6) Minny 7) Illinois
I think Iowa takes the West this year. They’ll win Wisconsin at home and their schedule looks like a two loss year.
It looks like PSU was made into the test dummy for the West this year. They get Iowa AND Wisconsin at home this year, and they’re on the road against Illionois.
MSU in the East......
Badgers in the West.......
Saban on a cart eating cold pizza
I predict ichigan fans will cry about the officials again...………….
That's some low hanging fruit, Don.
I thought that went without saying.
lets Pump The Brakes on OSU winning the B1G before we know if Urban or Day is our coach this season. Few new head coaches come in and tear it up their 1st season (especially with no prior Head coaching experience)
It actually partially depends on the ruling of the BOT & Drake.
If Urban goes, I would have Michigan 1 in the East, Wisconsin 1 in the West.
If Urban stays, TOSU 1 in the East, Wisconsin 1 in the West.
And the East wins the championship, regardless.
And FTR, I don't think Urban did anything deserving of being fired . . . unless there is conclusive evidence he hid knowledge of DV. Nothing I've seen or read leads me to the conclusion Urban Meyer is responsible for anything in the sorry saga of Zach and Courtney Smith.
I think that Wisconsin and Iowa battle it out for West supremacy, with whoever wins at Iowa City early being the key game, while this year might be the most competitive ever for an East Division title. I like the Buckeyes to win the East but maybe with a loss. Penn State, MIchigan, and Michigan State are all legitimate contenders for that top spot. Very important for the Buckeyes to beat TCU to avoid a possible two loss season, which would eliminate them from the CFP.
Northwestern and Purdue are two teams that could pull off an upset to shake the standings up in each division. Nebraska is probably a year or two away, while Maryland is hard to predict with DJ Durkin's uncertain future.
Ohio State wins the B10 over the West winner, and gets a seat at the CFP table.
East Champ - Ohio State
West Champ - Wisconsin
Conference Champ - Ohio State
Coaching vacancies in Illinois and M...igan shortly into the offseason.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
East: Ohio State, Penn State, Sparty, TUN, Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland
West: Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois
With the talent assembled in Columbus, OSU will win east and B1G.
Not sure about order etc. Plus I don't care about who's second etc.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
Ohio State, if Meyer returns, is going to be the favorite in the East. The talent they have and so on gives them a big edge. That said PSU is a good team and should come in second. UM probably comes in third. The offense should be better and a good defense. MSU is next and after that who knows?
For the West it is Wisconsin again. However, Purdue and Nebraska show bigger gains this year and are improved.
