2018 Season Preview: Ohio State's Defensive Line Expected To Be Elite Once Again

This is the group at all four positions that will be the engine for the entire team. Nick bosa’s come along once in a lifetime as do Joey Bosa’s, and we got both of them at Ohio state.

I think chase young on the opposite side is just so damn scary for opposing teams. If we can get two other guys to step up and be those rotational players and be effective, man oh man, we are in for a good time.

i don’t know if defensive tackle has ever been this deep at Ohio state. That’s a group of talented and aggressive players

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

Who do you even double? Jones is going to be a handful this year. I see lots of teams going max protection on 3rd and long happy to punt and keep their qb up right.

Don't forget Landers. Every time he played it seemed he was constantly in the backfield.

So excited to see these fellas get after opposing offensive lines this year!! What a blessing to be able to get to the qb with 4 lineman and not have to blitz on every passing down. Wreak havoc!! Go Bucks. Muck Fichigan.

Principles before personalities.

It is really easy to excited about this group.  But it appears that coaching that much talent is not at all easy.

Wonder how much is programmed and how much is observations in determining how long each plays before substitution?

Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!

"But it appears that coaching that much talent is not at all easy."

True, but we have the master coaching D-line.

No wonder, Buctor, when we again rep our usual cliches and irrelevancies wrapped around such mighty action words as "allow".

Coaching isn't easy when you:

1-omit all situations

2-omit your strategy and tactical bases for gameplans

3-perceive 'rotation' like a merry-go-round at the park.

4-'focus' on who gets how many reps

5-omit the relationships between the DL and the LBs and Safeties [occasionally CBs].

6-rep starry starry visions of dominations....

So lonely but on-point is your comment about 'observing in determining' about the bases for rotating.

The quality and depth across the D Line is just absurd.  Coach LJ will have a nice rotation allowing the players to stay fresh all game long.

Pin your ears back and go, boys!

The depth chart is just stupid and incredible young with talent.

To your point, nothing will please me more than when we play the 3rd stringers just because we can.

Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!

It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.

Negating the run, disrupting the pass...

These guys are going to be nasty.

I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...

So much versatility, depth and strength. All four starters will have careers in the NFL.

Loaded now and in the future. The back 7 needs to take advantage of this front.
I'm tired of hearing about Clemson's Dline, please let Ohio state slay that dragon this year.

The D-line will terrorize opponents this season. There is so much depth and talent and LJ is a superior coach so development is at the highest level. Time to watch and enjoy.

We don't have Backups, just more NFL ready starters!  Gotta figure out how to stencil that into my 11 W tee shirt!

Here's to hoping coach LJ takes a page out of the Dick LeBeau playbook and coaches into his seventies. The man recruits the best D linemen in the world with his class, teaching style and demeanor and proven results across a span of decades. This year is just another example.

I wonder if the horned frogs fan, who recently set up an 11W account, wants to come chime in on this article? ;) TCU and many other olines this year are going to be in big, big trouble with OSU's Dline. Pretty sure you can bank that...

It is time!!!!!

The depth across the board on the Defensive Line is just going to allow them to attack opposing O Lines all season. It is going to be fun to find out how the rotation develops.

Fyi, Booker changed numbers to 52. I wonder if he is moving to DL? He is still listed at LB on roster Tony Gerdaman tweeted a few weeks ago

Although I've thought that might be a good move for all parties, too, Coach Ash's Twitter commentary from yesterday made it seem as if Booker's not only still at LB, but in the mix to possibly be a starter there.

I see the best d-line as being what's on the field throughout the game and I've said all along because depth OSU has the best.  Very little drop off in the second team.

These are the types of D Lines that'll keep O Line coaches up all night.

First, with Young, Bosa, Jones and Cooper, they have a legit chance to break the school record in sacks.  Plus, the depth and variety of body types at the DT position is the best I can ever remember it.  It will be almost impossible to throw the ball downfield against this bunch.

If there is a concern - and it is a minor one - it is that we do not know how guys like Cooper and Young will respond in the power running game.  My guess is that their time in the Mariotti dojo and learning from the best DL coach in this biz, this will not be a problem.  But, still these guys haven't been asked to be the lead dogs yet.  Hubbard, Holmes and Lewis were so solid on the edges in the run game and that made life so much easier on the rest of the defense.

You've got barbecue back there?

If the interior of the line creates havoc as they should then who do you double team? Haha Young? Bosa? Then Zip right up the Gut with some heat from an explosive LB mmmm throw it out quick with a couple of lock down CB's and safeties bringing str8 heat with what a 10 yard head of steam? Good luck with that rest of college football. Whew glad its not me that has to game plan against these guys. GO BUCKS

I'm really interested to see what Antwuan Jackson brings. LJ just missed on him coming out of high school and I think people are sleeping on him.

Great talented depth. I hope comfortable leads allow us to play all players including some incoming freshman talent. That would help recruiting.
