Its probably been hard with just getting random clips and a 40 minute session. Hopefully this crap gets finished soon and we can get back to be excited for the season. Here's a pretty good analysis of what's available from Tony Gerdeman from The Ozone. https://theozone.net/2018/08/just-thinking-ohio-state-fall-camp-tidbits/
Have you ever seen a fierce animal who you were sure wouldn't bite? Because I haven't.
Yes!! I want to hear about the team as well! This investigation can't end fast enough! Let's get on with the season already! Thanks for posting the Ozone stuff Goodlife!
Reading that Ozone report the thing that stuck out as something I hadn't heard and was kind of shocked to hear was that Brian Snead should see more than four games this year! Obviously that is good news for him and means he is probably a Stud in his own right. It just was shocking because its the first thing I've heard about him so far. Nice to be talking about players and football for a change!
This is extremely hard to piece that together when media can't really watch practice or talk to players and coaches. Anything we'd put out right now would really be pure speculation, and we don't really want to do that. But I promise we'll have something as soon as we can. We would like to be able to give that to you just as much as you would like to read it.
Hey Kevin, I'm sure this whole situation is just as frustrating for you guys as it is for us fans! With Urbans suspension, and the University basically on gag order during the investigation, and the team on media blackout it must be very frustrating not being able to get any reliable information to report on a regular basis. I can't wait till this is over and 11W can start covering the team with the normal great coverage we get here. It qill be awesome to start hearing more about the players and how things are shaping up for this season. Thanks for all you guys do!
Wait, you mean you wouldn't run an article with just speculation and no real facts? Asking for a friend.....
Scrimmage Saturday will help bring this into focus!
Despite limited media access, Tim May recently reported on one interesting position battle/depth chart item . . . program insiders said that Jahsen Wint’s stock is rising, putting him in the thick of the race to fill the vacant safety spot next to Jordan Fuller.
I realize this item complicates, rather than helps clarify, the depth chart discussions, but it’s a lot better than the tabloid stuff.
The 2018 and 2019 MLB battle is going to be pretty damn tough. Borland, Hilliard, Browning, and Mitchell? I know everyone is going to point to Browning eventually winning it being the 5 star guy, and he might, but there's going to be a dogfight for that spot this season and next.
Not going to lie; I love when lower rated 3 star guys pop out of nowhere and take spots. Those are always my favorite stories, and Wint coming out of nowhere to take that vacant spot would be a perfect example where everyone would sort of go "woah". Of course, you'd then have to hear from people on here that the coaches don't know what they're doing and since Proctor and Pryor were 4-5 star guys they should be the ones playing, but it seems every year we have one of those situations (Elfein, Powell, Darron Lee, Bowen).
You’re forgetting Pete werner. I wouldn’t do that if I were you
Werner is playing WLB, and hell... he might win that job outright this year over Keandre Jones. I wasn't overlooking him and others should't as well; it's pretty clear the staff thinks really highly of him.
Yeah, I’m bullish on the LBs, not because I have any idea which ones will emerge as starters and/or primary contributors. Rather it’s because there is so much depth of talent that the odds work in the Silver Bullets’ favor.
With that “numbers” approach in mind, I figure that, if three star Wint beats out not just one, but several, five star/high four star players, then he’s probably become pretty darn good.
It doesn’t always work out that way (see Ed Warinner’s OL recruiting classes), but usually it does.
Fwiw, Wint was always an athletic freak. He was recruited as an athlete because he came up through NYC, not exactly a hotbed for youth football development. IIRC, his high school coach used him as a Swiss Army knife because he was far and away the best athlete and player on the team. He didn’t get as much specialized coaching geared for defensive back play, etc.
Last season (2017 Ohio State), he showed flashes of brilliance in a couple of games, but was inconsistent. I remember one play against Rutgers (I know, Rutgers). I was watching the battle at the l-o-s, not the secondary, when out of the corner of my eye, I saw a dude flash into the screen. Almost like he was playing at a higher speed. I was like, “WhoTF was that?” It was Jahsen Wint. I didn’t see that from him again, but that one play told me that he was at least capable of being another one of those three star freaks a la Darron Lee, if he could learn to play the position.
We will see . . .
If I recall, Wint played MLB in high school at around 5-11, 185 pounds which I'm sure made his projection to DB even more difficult for evaluators.
I don't think there's enough info out about the team as far as who is doing what, who is injured, etc. to know who even factors into a two deep right now.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Just take the team roster and put "OR" between every player
More serious answer coming now. Most of the uncertainty is at positions up the midd of the offense and defense. This concerns me the most. You need your best players closest to the football
I liked your less serious answer better.
We have the studs to fill the holes but its still not the optimal situation
Im definitely interested to see if they moved Jordan to C full time. That would mean Bowen is back to 100% or one of the younger guys like Myers or Davis have had a monster fall camp. I am also just assuming they are going to be careful with Borland and limit his snaps in fall camp so he can be 100% by the time TCU or PSU gets here. That means Werner, Hilliard, or Browning will start at LB vs. Oregon State.
