Arnette 2nd team?  Interesting.  Wish  him well and hope he lives up to the preseason  hype

Interesting picking Arnette for second team. I thought he was in the doghouse this off-season. If he does end up playing at an All-American level it's only good for us though.

11 Strong.

Arnette is good, but he's the 3rd best CB on our team... now sure who is doing this list, but they clearly don't know much.

Preseason list. To be taken with a mountain of salt.

I was thinking Kendal Sheffield with his track speed and size would ponder more star power.

Arnette's selection surprised me. Maybe we'll hear more about Arnette when we get our coach back.

HS
Cuser17's picture

Can’t say I’m not surprised to see Arnette on there.. hopefully he’s ready to break out and help solidify the secondary.

HS
letsgobucks's picture

I thought Arnette had a very good second half of the season. I think fans are stuck on the 1st half (a couple of games at that). I'm not surprised and I think he's going to have a great year..

HS
Buckeye Chuck's picture

This is true; his second half was pretty strong, and I had been someone who had questioned whether he had the physical chops to do the job.

The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.

HS
chemicalwaste's picture

When he learns to shut his mouth, he might become a better cb.

Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.

HS
cdub4's picture

I doubt his mouth is a factor in his cornerback play.

HS
RunEddieRun1983's picture

Arnette is very surprising. I don't feel as though he's even the second best CB on our team, but people who make way more money  than me make those decisions.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

HS
Buckfrombirth's picture

Nothing against Arnette, but many of those same people you reference are hysterically screaming for Meyer's head based upon one side's allegations. I'm totally happy for Damon, but I've stopped trusting much of the sports media.

HS
RunEddieRun1983's picture

Can't blame you there. I mean, it's just a surprise for me, I thought Sheffield was much more on the national radar anyway.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

HS

Totally agree. I'm really happy for Damon, but surprised like everyone else. I've just had it with sports media in general at this point.

I love Arnette's physicality and attitude but am surprised by this. I'll gladly be proven wrong in this case.

HS

Hopefully we all will be surprised.

Hmmmmmm 2nd team AA? Hopefully he live up to it, i’d rather see O’Kudah at that other corner though

HS

Or Shaun Wade. Or Amir Reip. But, I pay for a free site, so what do I know?

I bet arnette ends up playing the least amount of all three CBs. Sheffield is ready to have a break out year, and Okudah is so clearly more athletic/gifted (also bigger and faster) than Arnette. Love Arnettes's toughness/competitiveness, but cmon now... there's no way a new CB coach with no allegiance to Arnette will be able to keep Okudah off the field. Arnette becomes nickelback. Maybe plays first series or two every game so he's still "starter", but in big moments when we need a stop, okudah and Sheffield need to be in the game.

You had barbecue back there? And you didn't invite me? HURT! MY! FEELINGS!

HS
goodlifesean's picture

Okudah has looked like an absolute stud in the few video clips we've seen. Blanketing his receiver every time. Even the one time he got beat by Victor on the post it took a perfect teardrop pass from Tate Martell to beat him

Have you ever seen a fierce animal who you were sure wouldn't bite? Because I haven't.

HS
Buckfrombirth's picture

Makes you smile an evil grin to know that Tate threw that ball, doesn't it?

I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.

HS
goodlifesean's picture

Damn right. Nice thought having a wildcat/running QB who can throw like that. If we use him and Haskins right this fall this O could be prolific

My thoughts exactly, and I trust this coaching staff to get that balance right.

Any way you can link the video clip? I don't think I've seen it.

Let Clemson think they are the best D-line. Let them rest on their laurels and become overconfident. Heck, maybe they become lackadaisical and goof off a few plays. When you are "that good" you can do that! ;)

In the meantime the Buckeyes will be hangry and will show the rest of college football how it is really done!

GO BUCKS!

I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.

HS
Larryp713's picture

SI had a good article about the Clemson D-Line. Their front four might be the best collection of talent and experience to ever line up in college football. Their players seem to handle the hype well - to a person, they said they don't want to hear how great they are until after the season. They should be scary.

That said, I think the depth and talent of the Buckeyes defensive line this year takes a back seat to no one, not even Clemson. The Buckeyes don't quite have the experience, but I believe their defensive line will be as dominant as Clemson's. Both defenses will be fun to watch.

Respectfully,

Larryp713

Don't forget, the Clemson DL is also specially trained to sexually assault the opposition in the piles.

Going to play nice; personally, I cringe every time a pass gets throw in his direction...either a completion, P/I, or not in play.  I'll go out on a limb to say he went from #3 to #46...not his choice. Nevertheless, best of luck young man and have a great season!

HS
HairyLegPits's picture

I too used to cringe anytime the ball was in the air and he was the guy in coverage... That said, I'm hoping that he takes a leap similar to what we saw Conley make. Damon definitely has the potential and the tools (speed, agility and a willingness to punish ball carriers) to be very good.

HS
HairyLegPits's picture

Ttun fans will surely be salty if Gary didn't get the same recognition as Nick. They are convinced that Gary is far superior to bosa, despite that the actual on-field production proves Bosa to be better all around. Potential, in their dystopian world, is more important than results.

HS
SuperClark13's picture

I live in that state up north and the majority of people up here do not even think Gary is the best D lineman on the team. Everyone up thinks Winovich is better and the majority of them admit that Bosa is in a league of his own.

HS
HairyLegPits's picture

That's surprising! I was just going on comments that I've read over at MgoBlow regarding Gary... He has somehow achieved legendary status with much of that crowd.

HS
HotSweetNuts's picture

Well a majority of people up there must be on something. Winovich put up better stats due largely to the fact he never came out of the game and offenses game planned around Gary due to his freakish athleticism. I expect to see similar results from whoever lines up opposite of Bosa who imho is better than them both.

HS
SuperClark13's picture

IMO Sheffield is the best corner on our roster. Nevertheless congrats to Arnett and I hope he has a spectacular year.

HS
HairyLegPits's picture

He's the fastest db on our roster. From what I can tell judging by camp clips, okudah is already the best corner on the team. His backpedal and fluid hips are already on an NFL-esque level. He's polishing his technique and mastering his assignments as we speak... The boy has the potential to be one of the best corners to come out of OSU. His natural talent is off the charts and it's perfectly suited for his position.

HS

They certainly look the part of elite athletes, both of those guys are jacked!

My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.   - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)

HS

If the progression of our  CB's mean anything, he just might join that list and i'm all for it. Okudah in the wings or not.

The whole worlds a circus, don't you be the clown.

I am not surprised by Arnette. Remember when Apple was injured and Conley replaced him versus MSU and did so bad that he was benched and an injured Apple came back in? Conley came back the next year and shined and was a first round pick. Arnette has the experience to take it to the next level, although I don't predict he'll go first round.

I was surprised that Sheffield wasn't on here.

You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!

Great example.

No one’s ever had wackier preseason A-A teams than Playboy.

First reaction to Arnette being named 2nd team was "lol wut?" I still think Okudah and Wade are the better corners, but you won't see me complain if Arnette performs as an All-American this year.

This is definitely where I parked my car.

HS

Don't be surprised is Chase Young is on one of these lists come December.

Why does Dublin have so many round-abouts? Because everyone in Dublin thinks they have the right-of-way.

I would have guessed Fuller if you told me one of our DBs was gonna be on a preseason AA list

HS

With all due respect to my fellow Buckeye fans, but I remember when everybody said Roby sucked, that he was overhyped then of course he developed into a first round NFL pick.  Same thing with Conley, who many here despised because he got burnt a few games early in his career.  Then, they said the (gasp!) three-star Denzel Ward could never live up to what Conley and Lattimore were - until of course he did and then some.  If you watched Arnette progress last year, you have to be excited about what he will do.  Put the high school star ratings aside and you'll see that Arnette's the next star in that corner dynasty.

You've got barbecue back there?

HS
Steelydan54's picture

Pre Season AA lists are handy for wiping up spilled oil in the driveway.  That said Nick Bosa will be a beast all year despite the double and triple teams, especially once opposing OLine coaches recognize that the Predator is on the opposite side and the DTackles are no slouches either.  Hoping Arnette becomes the next 'rags to riches' story out of BIA, but also that Sheffield and Okudah outplay him and we have another 'brace of corners' to replace.

Bosa might be the 2nd best DE on the OSU roster.  Before you hate me.  I said might be.  And ESPN SUCKS!

I support whoever plays.  And chuckle @ the thought of those having a problem w/ Arnette being named to a “watch list” but yap incessantly about why he shouldn’t be.  Guess they should’ve named a hype guy to get fan support.

Hope Arnette along with some other much maligned Buckeyes ball out.  Any other fan faves who ain’t playing should sack up and take the spot, if they can!

HS
cdub4's picture

My sentiments exactly. Annette started over Okudah for a reason. Because he was the better CB.

HS
Tresselball4life's picture

My best bet for Arnette is the writer probably looked at Ohio State being CB U and decided based on that.

HS

Can’t believe DA got some love.  I’m not a big fan of his so hopefully he’ll prove me wrong.  I always thought he’d be a better Safety than corner but we shall see this season.
