You beat me to it. Should be peeks. Stuck out like a sore thumb.
I saw the passing stats for every LSU QB from their first scrimmage the other day. They were all pretty similar. I remember McMillan had the highest completion percentage (He was 8 - 13). Burrow was 7 - 13 for 118 yards.
If Archie believes then I believe. Just over two weeks away!
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Prayers for Mr Smalley.
And more for Mr White.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
Ryan Day and Kevin Wilson are better coaches than the guys running the offense back then.
One of them was supposed to be coaching the line.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
Well the martel packages will work a lot bettet if they throw on first down. Was dissapointed at times with the play calling at times last year after all the hype about Wilson's offense. Then again i think most fan bases say the same thing. No excuses this year,. We have a pass first QB and a bona fide wr coach, with nfl experience. Didn't realize Hartline had back to back 1k yard years.
Bona fide WR Coach? The dude was just an intern this past winter..
This is THE OSU. We reload at every position and coaching slot.
True, but Hartline played WR in the league for a number of years, let alone excelled at the game in the college level.
His predecessor's super power was launching Twitter tirades.
Not to mention he is a Buckeye.
m GO BLOW!!!
He was a big hit on the recruiting trail....
Leave one wolf alive....and the sheep are never safe
I find it funny the number of fans who think anybody who played at a high level will instantly be a good coach.
If Mike Vrabel can go from a linebackers coach to a NFL head coach in 7 years, there's plenty of hope for Hartline. He certainly knows the position he's coaching, he's learned the playbook over the last year, and he's observed how Urban and Zach Smith trained the WRs.
The fact that he is a former Buckeye is a plus, not just because he's back at his alma mater, but because he fundamentally understands the expectations and level of excellence required to coach or play at Ohio State.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
Vrabel is clearly an exception and not the rule.
Vrabel is clearly an exception and not the rule.
That's why I said "there's hope", not "it's an inevitability". Everyone has to perform.
But I'll bet that Hartline will work his butt off to lose the "interim" tag. I'll also bet that Hartline having been a successful NFL receiver that he can teach nuances to the WRs that Zach Smith could not.
I think one thing we overlook about Wilson’s offenses at Indiana was how much of it was situational. When you are coaching against programs that have more talent, you are going to do all sorts of things to get an edge that you maybe don’t do when you have the edge in talent over the other guys.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
That's true, BP. We don't need to get cute on offense just for cuteness' sake.
But I hope we have some wrinkles and surprises waiting for all of our big games, esp. TCU, PSU, MSU and TTUN. We'll need some vs. Clemson and Bama too if we get that far.
TTUN is bereft of elite status in the Big Ten East.

That was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the word bereft.
I thought of the Steward of Gondor.
The Buckeyes are bereft of Urban Meyer.
And who bereaved TTUN?
THE Ohio State Buckeyes.

Martell at punt returner?
No sir, I don't like it.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
Urban would never hear the end of it if Martell got hurt while returning kicks.
That said, I feel like he does owe it to Martell to get in a limited mount of reps with the first team here and there. Ideally he doesn’t get hurt, but this case would be much more understandable than returning punts or kicks.
"Because I couldn't go for three." - Woody Hayes
“Owe”?? C’mon, man!!
My sentiments exactly! Martell should EARN his time on the field as everyone else is expected to, regardless to his high school level of success.
Sometimes the narrative is all about who is being talked about.
I think he has Buckaroo.
Respectfully disagree. Based on Meyer’s comments, it seems very much to me that he has earned playing time. Otherwise why would we (or the coaches) even feel the need to address this situation with Martell?
Instead, the discussion seems to center on “how” to use him - without risking an injury - not whether he has earned the playing time.
Outside of injury risk, can you think of another reason the coaches shouldn’t use Martell in tailored plays?
can you think of another reason the coaches shouldn’t use Martell in tailored plays?
My concern is that we become predictable, i.e. we signal our intentions by which QB is on the field.
I do not think it is “owed”, per se, but it is a good idea.
I do not like the idea of “red zone packages” with a different quarterback. Let Haskins lead the team. It’s as if OSU is already looking past him to Martell. 2015 soured me completely on the quarterback merry-go-round.
Fair enough. We can agree there.
And I think we all had our fill of QB uncertainty back in the Zwick days, to be sure.
I know that we've all seen a few highlight-reel hits where a punt returner has gotten clocked, and they are memorable, but ... how often do punt returners actually get hurt? I'd guess it's not that common.
Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.
I'm looking at this from a practicality standpoint - greater depth at the other skill sets, DB's.
The call is above my paygrade, but I wouldn't risk utilizing my backup QB like that.
Of course, I'll stay at a Holiday Inn as needed...
I would be straight up furious if he put Tate Martell at punt returner when we never even got to see Braxton Miller do it.
Good lord yes...and Braxton even needed touches.
Id upvote this, but well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We may have seen this if Burrow was still here...
Having a guy like Martell is a great problem to have. Our back up is so good theres no way they can keep him off the field. Meanwhile some schools used 3 quarterbacks last year, all of which were objectively terrible and are now relegated to putting their hopes into a mediocre grad transfer who threw 3 interceptions against the only decent defense he saw last year.
Wonder if Jeaux considered going there. As a grad transfer he would have been eligible immediately... but could OSU have blocked a grad transfer? This assumes, of course, he would have been ok with being a turncoat. But, it has happened before...
Yes, it’s happened before but unless I’m mistaken, so far, that gate has only opened in Ohio State’s direction.

JT White played at both. Won a NC at OSU in 1942, during WWII went into military, went to TTUN and won NC in 1947.

First of all that is not what Joe is make of, and second, Joe would be a poor fit up north, because Joe is a winner.
EDIT: Oops should read "what Joe is made of"
Joe is a winner? He left OSU because he couldn’t win the starting job. He quit on us.
And his resume consists of 30 passes as a 3rd string QB.
I like your use of the phrase, "objectively terrible". It reminds me of a phrase I heard once during a military briefing, where the Boss, after hearing the options, said they were all "equally worse". I still laugh every time I think about it.
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
I'm so excited to see Martell in action. If he was 6'3, I don't think there would be much question who our starter is. This offense & college football in general are tailor made for him.
Dwayne would be our starter if Tate was 6’3
Also, Tate is not 6’3, he’s 5’8
He’s 5’ 11”
I cant wait to see Tate in action. But Dwayne is the starter. And he’s gonna shine!
He's 4' 6".
Sure seems like it behind those linemen, I’ll grant you that.

Surprised the Silver Bridge collapse was not on that infrastructure failure list.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
I was surprised to read the US had four of the seven on the list. Maybe it’s my naïveté but I have to believe there have been deadlier infrastructure failures in other places around the world where quality materials and engineering standards and skills are more likely to be bereft.
Dang! You referenced both the infrastructure article AND the word of the day in a single post! That's next-level fandom right there. Impressive, Iowabuckeyes; impressive!
There are some nations that are conspicuously absent from that list like Soviet era Russia and China. I’m certain they have had terrible infrastructure failures that we never heard about.
Throw India and most of the remaining developing countries on there.
Much of the time, these lists just come down to information access - which relies on reporting, which is not always available in developing countries.
LSU losing QB’s and we pick up one, the kid from West Virginia that is a graduate transfer.
Send the Earth Reverberating
Yep. McMillan just announced that he is transferring from LSU. They're down to 2 scholarship QB's.
Nothing cleanses the soul like a no call pass interference.
He hasn't enrolled yet... don't count chickens
Love Archie. What a great ambassador for Ohio State
Archie is a great guy. When I was at OSU, I had the job of getting a signed football as a gift for a general who was attending our ROTC dining out. We contacted Archie and he invited me and two other cadets to his office to sign the ball. He graciously took about 15 minutes out of his day to talk to us about the military and school -- not a word about football -- and made our senior year. Just an awesome, awesome guy.
A guy named Narcisse can't handle not being the presumed number one. Go figure.
Sounds like the name of a French post-impressionist painter or a fashion designer.
“You look lovely...who are you wearing tonight?”
Ha, it’s like something out of Zoolander.
C'mon Markie Mark, buy the Crew and change their name to the Funky Bunch ! /s
Marry Mark and his family are about to open a Wahlburger's restaurant near me, which is odd since we are outside of Chicago. Anyway, Donnie Wahlburg was around town since he lives here now (with Jenny McCarthy) and their tv show followed him and the brothers. My takeaway from this was that they do seem to be serious businessmen, and as such going for the Crew could really be a good thing if it were to happen. Anyone has to be better than the current mess right?
"They say, "these geeks come a dime a dozen. I'm lookin' for the guy who's supplyin' the dimes." -Classy Freddie Blassie
I agree it would be a positive move for the organization. If he puts as much focus on the team as he seemingly does with everything else, it could work out well for the Crew. Plus, he's charismatic as hell and could boost public and government interest far more than that lech that owns them now.
How can a school district lose almost half a million dollars over 5+ years and not be able to figure out where it was going? It isn't like $50 was missing, and at least one of the two ladies was responsible for counting money at the end of the day. Beats me what took them so long.
Martell needs to play, but not just as a short-yardage rusher. If he gets snaps, he needs to look like a true qb who will run passing plays as well, or it will be too easy for defenses to key on him and the upcoming play call.
This situation is certainly better than LSU where they soon won't have enough qb's since Burreaux is making them run scared.
Kevin, good luck with the move out. A rite of passage as it were is about to take place. Nicely done.
How can a school district lose a half million dollars and not figured it out? It’s because many schoolboard members have zero business background. And treasures are paid peanuts and aren’t totally qualified.
That, and judging by the size of the school they probably were running around a million dollars a year in lunch revenue, so 100K/year would be about 10% loss rate. Not so big to cause a serious concern right away, but big enough to warrant investigating eventually. I would not be surprised if they though it was an accounting error at first. Had they beem less greedy and skipped a year or two they may have gotten away with it a lot longer.
1. We won't be bereft of football much longer.
2. It bears repeating: Haskins' running and Martell's passing will surprise.
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
Kevin, i see your sprit animal and DJ’s are becoming one. Excellent. Continue the great work and enjoy your new home.

Protecting Tate is just as important as protecting Haskins. Don't let the things you don't know take precedent over the things you do.
1st string QB's in an Urban Meyer offense do get get hurt. This we know all too well. A strong, healthy, competent back-up QB in an Urban Meyer offense has the reputation of doing some pretty incredible things for us, something we also know all too well.
A strong, healthy, competent back-up QB in an Urban Meyer offense has the reputation of doing some pretty incredible things for us, something we also know all too well.
Very true. But not something I am eager to test again.
Amen, and don't get me wrong I am dying to see what Tate can do at this level. But not at the expense of the bigger picture and the complete season. He will get his shot when it's his time.
$16,000 to potentially improve your kid's chances of maybe getting into their first choice college? You'd probably have a better chance by offering a $10,000 bribe to an admissions counselor at said college. Save your self $6k and assure that the kid gets in.

How about ~ $50k over 5 years grades 8-12 at a good high school? That's how I did it with my oldest. The next one is still a question mark on that strategy though.
I am definitely wanting JB to win the LSU QB job and to light up Bama November 3 in Baton Rouge.
That ain’t happening. That could be one of Orgerons last games.
I don't know, Bama seems to have one conference road hiccup each year and what will likely be a night game in Death Valley with a competent QB seems to be a likely possibility. It could also be a beat down by Bama, but the possibility of an upset does exist.
Your disdain for Joe Burrow is creeping in throughout the commentary.
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
The absolute only way Bama doesn't get into a playoffs is if they lose 2 games. Maybe with a competent QB LSU can be one of those, and if Auburn chips in again also...
I agree, Avail, with them being a 1 loss lock. But with how much the SEC is in bed with ESecPN, I wouldn't be surprised at much of anything if Bama had 2 losses.
I wish it was the case that buying the crew would be equivalent to buying a video game for Marky Mark, but he simply does not have the money to do it on his own. He could be a minority owner, but buying the team outright would take over half of his net-worth. He appears too smart to make that kind of commitment to a sports franchise which are risky investments at best.
The man certainly knows his football but Archie talks about this year's team like the uninformed dude at the water cooler when you ask him what he thinks about the local team's chances this year.
"They're going to be awesome"
“Hopefully he can take that same attitude into the season and really shine, that would be great,” Griffin said. “It won’t be easy for him. There are some great teams in the Big Ten, and some other tough teams to play.
“They’ve just got to focus on what’s important and take it one game at a time, as they always say.”
It was bad enough, Nor Cal, that you gave an unvarnished response, but then to back it up with facts and quotes? That was definitely over the top.
13T-NFL franchises are only risky if you are Art Modell and have to borrow money to pay Andre Rison's salary.

I could listen to Archie talk all day long. He’d be a great talent for game broadcasts but any chance we get to hear his insights is a privilege. Thanks for sharing!
We think our D line will be unstoppable and strength of defense, Free Press did rankings in Big Ten by position group and Ranked TTUN DLine the best as they can go 8 Deep?
Always love hearing Archie anytime he speaks, especially about the team.
I hope Mark Wahlberg does buy the Crew and keeps them in Columbus!
Poor souls thought they were safe coming to LSU. The Tigers haven't had a competent quarterback in years leading these fellows to believe they had a shot against anyone on the current roster.
That's because Joe Burrow left them bereft of any hope of playing time.
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I'm not very smart. --- W.W. Hayes
That will also be better managed than the similar setup we saw with Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett in 2015, because Ryan Day and Kevin Wilson are better coaches than the guys running the offense back then.
But, he isn't wrong.

Last I heard, Burrow was #4 on the depth chart...
Now hes at least #2 and half of them are leaving town on the first thing smoking?
Not very team - oriented, those tigers.
It. Is. Time.
Cool read about Jarred Smalley, I had the same experience. I had my PFO closed years ago and it did wonders for my migraines and no more strokes so far.
Joe Burrow could do as much for tOSU recruiting as any Buckeye in Louisiana has not named Will Smith!
