This is embarrassing.
Do I have to put something down here?
agreed, I felt awkward going through this article.
Yeah, unfortunately it was pathetic; that's just what my friend Pat** noted:
"It lasted 10 minutes. They chanted and sang 'Carmen Ohio' and waved signs..."
I'm disgusted at these middle-aged people singing Carmen Ohio.
"for the disturbingly out of touch,.. The gathering of 200 myopic freaks... is an embarrassment to the school... Other than the neanderthal holding the sign..."
OSU fans are pathetic. And here's the key:
"That mentality underscored the disconnect between the need for serious domestic violence discussions and the dullards who want to squabble with media commentators saying something mean about their coach."
Yeah, obviously we here at 11W agree we don't stoop so low as to support a coach who condones domestic violence.

Embarrassing? Say you. Those people did what they wanted, when they wanted, they shouldnt feel bad about it.
I guess we all should feel better about the 1,000's of comments and moral stands we are making on an internet board, in a protective cloak of anonymity......thats how we should proclaim our truths....lol
You should have counter-protested.
Yes, and in their counter protest, they should have shown their true colors by holding anti-Urban signs and singing Hail to the Victors.
First words I thought were "this is pathetic".
Uh oh! Looks like those rumors about Ohio State joining the SEC are true!
How so? To show support for our coach?
Yeah it was a small rally and unnecessary and doesn't change anything and blah blah blah but I don't think showing support for your coach, who has done nothing egregiously wrong other than misspeak at a presser, is a bad thing. It's not like they're out there supporting Zach Smith, the one who actually is alleged to have committed domestic violence. They're supporting a head coach who the media jumped at the possibility of dragging his name through the mud only to look like idiots, as the information coming out has poked holes in the narrative to the point where it looks like Swiss cheese.
Class of 2010.
Perhaps you should look back at how (PSU - edited) "supported" their coach before all the facts were out. It's a horrible look. You're entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong it may be. Urban doesn't need this rally and neither does OSU. Very reminiscent of PSU...which is enough to make me want to vomit.
It is time!!!!!
That crime I followed just as grand jury testimony was leaked. Facts were way out well before drunk students rampaged and old ppl genuflected on that guy's front lawn.
There's nothing wrong with making a statement in favor of respecting one person's due process, even if the statement is no more than leading cheers against pitchforks.
Chop it down with the edge of my hand
I'm behind the (warranted) downvotes, but if you want to reference Penn State then reference Penn State.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
Can the mods enforce this more? Way too much "Pedd State", "Mcbuttfuck", etc stuff going down in the comments here. It's embarrassing.
Ohio State Engineering - Class of 2015
I won't speak for the other mods/staff - but we're going through comments as best as we can...you have my word I don't condone references to PSU and their scandal made in poor taste.
Appreciate the patience, and support.
No problem man, the mod life isn't easy!
Too many people here worry about perception. At least these people do what they think is right regardless of perception. Better that than the hypocrisy of saying it on the internet then hating on people who say it without anonymity
Buckshots... always there for you if you missed the news last month
In today’s society perception is everything. This is a bad look right now. If and keyword is IF he did nothing wrong then he will be reinstated. This just looks like a bunch of people supporting urban because of a game
I agree to an extent. But I'm not as confident as you that even if the committee finds he did nothing wrong that he keeps his job. We live in a lynch mob, protest happy society. His legacy is forever tarnished (outside OSU) and he may have done everything right.
@BrutusB, the fact that you’re an OSU fan is what's really embarrassing.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Actually I was thinking a troll in fact.
GO BUCKS!!! *ichigan sucks!!!
I find a peaceful protest to be quite enjoyable. Freedom of speech is a great freedom to have.
This is such a bad look. And how about the guy with Me Too sign? Could not be more embarrassing and tone deaf.
"Vision without execution is just hallucination."
I had the urge to shower after seeing that.
And is Casey Anthony standing behind Stacy Elliott?

The irony.... a guy set this up with good intentions to praise a guy who could go down for doing the wrong thing with good intentions..
Will always love Zeke and Stacy Elliott but man... just not a good look. About like having Art show up if this had been about gambling..
Maybe up close, if I lived in 'merica, I might think the way you do. Maybe not. And maybe it makes no difference either way if I've been gone 12 years living 8000 miles away, but...it probably does. I always refer back to Mark Twain, when in doubt, that is...imagination labors best in distant fields. And I've made an effort to keep informed of all this what I call shitshow, but I stop short of listening to drivel coming from Stephen A, Finebaum and anything along the same lines, which is probably about 99% of everything being written about this story at present. which leaves 11warriors, cleveland.com, and one stray morning catching a headline from the night before on ESPN. Had one conversation with a longtime friend via phone who lives in Columbus, has lived there 61 years now. So, I just don't see the problem here, the 'bad look" as one commentor put it. Yea, Urban might be behind the curve with regard to whats PC as far as the #metoo movement, but hell, in truth that could be said of probably most people belonging to this site, writers for this site, the OSU Board of Trustees, and the investigative team for this whole shebang. At the same time, don't thing Urbans been living with his head in the sand either. Most of the outrage expressed here about this gathering just comes off as fauxoutrage from where I am sitting, on a 100 degree day in the hinterlands of the holyland, with no rain in sight for another two months. Btw, if Urban loses his job, it will have less to do with his perceived actions, or lack of, and more to do with a reactionary University, Board of Trustees who themselves are in all likelihood watching Sephen A. The only people who truly need to be sequestered are the one doing the investigation. You've been on this site for as long as I can remember, so enlighten me, because you speak of irony, while the rest express faux moral outrage...
The offseason is the longest season.
Awesome, we have a Buckeye fan named Tennessee Jeff who came up from South Carolina on a couple days notice to rally moral support for our defamed coach. There are Buckeye fans all over this land, and I for one am proud to stand, and greet them with an "O-H".
From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea
From Columbus down to Houston, and New York to LA,
There's a pride in every Buckeye heart,
And it's time we stand and say
I'm proud to be a Buckeye!
Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall. (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
Nothing good came from this "protest." Shades of JoeBots in State College.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
The only thing I can tell myself to feel better about this is We are... NOT Penn State.
We definitely aren't. These ~200 clowns in no way represent Ohio State but they give off the same stink as the JoeBots.
No tOSU fan should ever equate the Urbz situation with psu. The cases are not even remotely close. Not to mention that we don't even know if Urbz is guilty of anything.
Not to mention the idea that Urban reporting the incidents somehow absolves him of blame, if he did know the full extent of the issue. It's exactly what we rightly criticized regarding Paterno's response.
11W User Map: https://goo.gl/mxUeyX
Are you freaking serious? Dumbest post read in awhile. The blame of what exactly? Urban Meyer is not a marriage counselor nor is he a police officer. Domestic violence is a crime. If a crime was committed, there would've been an arrest made and charges filed. It's not Urban's job to investigate whether DV occurred, it's law enforcement job. They actually get paid to do this for a living. How was Urban supposed to know the "full extent of the issue" as you put it? The full extent of what issue? There wasn't an issue of him to be aware of. If you inferring abuse, where's the police report to say that abuse actually occurred?
So you're saying you want our head football coach to be a part time marriage counselor and private investigator? WTF?
If I could down vote you a thousand times, I would.
Exactly. He should not have answered dishonestly in Chicago, but it appears he did his due diligence when the incident occurred. If he followed protocol, then he should keep his job.

Its documented that the Police and DA were involved well before Urban found out and reported. So far based on Urban's Fri PR, he says he followed appropriate process and protocol for reporting the situation.
Paterno systematically prevented Police Involved for over 25 years for what ended up being 50+ CONVICTED felonies along with 4 other PSU employees. JokePa would be in jail too now if the coward didnt croak.
Can we seriously stop with the fucking JoeBot comparisons?
Those people over there were in fucking denial about what Paterno should or should not have done. There is a pedophile...a predator in jail for the rest of his miserable life, and 4 other higher ups at PSU that are in jail for covering it up. Paterno might very well have served some jailtime too if he hadn't passed away so soon after being ousted. But see what happened over there? There was a coverup, and crimes that were proven in a court of law...people convicted of said crimes and thrown in jail. Compared to our coach, who reported an incident to higher ups like Paterno did...except police were involved in this one, and didn't find enough to arrest Zach Smith over the incident, and lied/misspoke to the media about the incident 3 years later. Now, does this mean Zach Smith is innocent of DV? Of course not. But what should one think when the cops never felt like he should have been arrested?
Paterno reached a godly status over there that was very scary. He transcended PSU football. Urban is not bigger than OSU football, and that's been clear since the beginning of this mess. And it should be that way.
You're absolutely correct but I wasn't comparing Urban to Paterno. I was noting the similarities between these ~200 fans and the JoeBot PSU fans.
what a mess... just as the story was taking a break...
"To The House"
Some of those signs were a disgrace. This has been such an embarrassment to Ohio State.
I have no idea why so many people have blamed ESPN for this.
Don’t you realize Brutus, ESPN was the LAST major media outlet to cover this story, but that was only because they were busy behind the scenes telling SI, Yahoo, Fox, CBS, BTN, etc what to say. It makes perfect sense to those who don’t have heir heads in the sand.
Do you work for ESPN or something? Because you sure do put a lot of overtime in when it comes to defending them on these boards.
Account suspensions-3 Commenting policy violations-0
Yet another poster who has no idea what I’m “defending”.
I don't think you know what you're defending either.
Have you ever, one time, seen me talk about how great their reporting is? How great their on air programming is(other than live sports)? How great their business model is? They answer to those questions is a resounding no. Some of you can’t separate the fact that just because I think it’s utterly absurd that some people actually think ESPN hates OSU, it’s does NOT mean I like the network. Hell, I’d place a large sum of money that I watch ESPN less than those who claim to hate it so much that they “never watch it”.
The sad thing is, people would rather use their burner accounts to throw chickensh!t dv’s than attempt to poke holes in my logic. I wonder why???
He doesn't work for them, but he wears this shirt on everyday that ends in a "y"
So not on the weekend?

Buckeye til I die
Im not trolling when I say this, but CincyOSU = Kirk Herbstreit.
I rather liked the signs about the anti ESPN. And I see nothing wrong with people willing to go out on hot concrete on a 95 degree day to stand up for what they believe. So many idiots bad mouthing Meyer and know nothing more than we do about it. Why is this so wrong what these people did? Just because you don't agree with it? So what, the world doesn't revolve around you. If Meyer actually did anything wrong he would be gone already. I say good for them to show their support. It is their right to show it. You wanna down vote me for speaking my mind so be it. I don't care. It is just as much my right to say this and support Meyer as it is for you to not to.
I agree, Knite!! Great post!!
I’m not about rally’s but screw esecpn and all of those hacks. Urban should be coaching his guys like yesterday. At least he’s getting paid for this bullshit
You can watch video from the rally below.
"Medicine is not a science" - Leo Spaceman
At least it was only 250, not that it is super small but given the OSU base it could have been worse.
Yeah, 200 people is basically 0.2% of the number that show up for gameday, so I'm relieved it was a such a small group. Though even 12 people is more than enough for me to be embarrassed by the whole thing.
Do you think Meyer should lose his job over this?
It. Is. Time.
That’s completely irrelevant to the fact that this rally was a horrible idea.
This is what happens when the media is allowed to repeat allegations until they become facts in the minds of the uninformed.
You get this.
Thank Brett McMurphy.
personally, no, I don't. And I also think that given the allegations the rally is not a good look.
Nobody can have an informed opinion on whether he should or shouldn’t lose his job until the investigation is done and the facts come out.
But every talking head on every sports outlet already has, and that seems to be why those folks were out there today.
Seeing as the stadium they rallied in front of holds 100,000+, I'm super glad such a small number of people showed up. Not a good look, but hopefully the people watching take into account the tiny crowd.
Why am I not surprised that Tennessee Jeff needs a sheet of paper with the lyrics to the alma mater?
What a goober.
I hate that the entire fanbase is going to be judged based on the actions of these 200 people with clearly nothing better to do.
For what it's worth I think things have been pretty tame. I thought there might be more blowback, but from what I've seen the people that are attacking the fanbase over this are the ones who have bones to pick with OSU anyway.
Even people on Reddit(!!) are keeping this in proportion:
Most of the world knows this is not representative of your fanbase as a whole. If it were, there would be thousands of people, not just a couple dozen.
That actually paints the fanbase as reasonable, at least to me.
Most of the world knows this is not representative of your fanbase as a whole. If it were, there would be thousands of people, not just a couple dozen.

Most of the reddit thread is people commiserating they every school has morons in their fanbase. It’s actually pretty refreshing.
I was literally going to post the same thing. What Buckeye fan needs the lyrics to Carmen???

Well it still beats being judged based on the actions of these guys....

Actually, I don't think it does. The three dweebs in that picture above make me less embarrassed. And how I know that is that even these three attention-seeking idiots decided that the "rally" was a step too far.
I for one am just shocked he didn’t go to Ohio State....
The backlash from this may not be beneficial for Urban depending on how much pressure is applied to the president by the "media".
I'm hibernating next offseason.

How did any of this help anything? An absolute embarrassment to this University, program, and state.
ITS NOT YOUR TEAM. AT ALL. EVEN A LITTLE. STOP SAYING OUR
Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.
Other than that, it was darn near perfect and a huge success.
It bothers me when people get upset over the use of the word "our". They're not "our" Buckeyes? The fact that 99% of my workout gear has OSU doesnt g in be me the right to say "my" Buckeyes? It's simply a term of comraderie aw far as I'm concerned.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
A pretty easy line to draw would be the dude named "Tennessee Jeff" that needs the lines to 'Carmen'.
I'll still wear some Ohio State gear this weekend.
Maybe just a hat.
Will it be the hat?

Had it been 10,000 people in St. John Arena --- Ok..... that is different. But I agree with the sentiments here.....it was embarrassing and actually, cringeworthy. The guy put a lot of effort into it, and well........yikes.
Did they put a lot of effort into it though?
yeah, but what he lied about was still a pretty bad decision. That he was willing to risk it all for Zach Smith is both loyal and dumb and I still do not understand it at all.
Risked what? He did his job. There were no charges, case closed. Reinstate him.
"The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish" - Charlie Chaplin
Urban didn't lie. If you've read the reddit thread, it's pretty evident that he was responding to the Brett McMurphy article in which he stated a felony arrest occurred. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. THAT is what Urban said was "invented" and that he "had no knowledge of". Well, D'uh!! Urban was responding to the LIE by the reporter.
"Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else." - Judy Garland
This is what makes this whole thing crazy. Urban is being dragged through the mud over a "facebook reporter" who has edited his report at least 3 times now.
One thing's for sure: Tennessee Jeff was working up a sweat.
Those folks would be better served showing their support by boycotting the ESPN personalities and the other outlets that were calling for Urban to be fired before learning all the facts. The rally is just a stupid embarrassment.
Fields of Dreams
A couple hundred misguided people out there. Doesn't mean much
I lol'd at this one though...
He did a pretty good job giving fodder to the critics who say we only care about football.
Not that I agree with this rally whatsoever (it's not a good look for the fanbase at all) but Finebaum deserves every ounce of ridicule thrown at him and then some. He's a horrible sports analyst, like Skip Bayless bad (which seems to be the norm for ESPN's hires as of late).
Finebaum and Bayless are both really good at their jobs. It’s just that their jobs are to purposefully be annoying and get you to click/tweet/watch even if you hate them.
All they are good at is being annoying. That is literally the only skill they have (and it's all you need to get hired at ESPN now).
Lemme guess. ..
You still fall for it every time, don't you?
God, this is so embarrassing.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Can y’all fucking not
From what I have read so far G.Smith owea more answers than Urban. Zach Smith was never arrested or Charged. See the Powell police report.
Mark May is a mental midget
So should they wait until after hes fired?
I have a feeling if Urban is fired (especially if it's strictly PR-related with no incriminating evidence involved) that's when the rioting will start. I wouldn't be shocked if some fans despair enough to make signs that say RIP OSU football if that happens. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
True. This ain't nothing compared to what's gonna happen if Urban is fired. A lot more student oriented, and they sure as hell wont be standing in line singing Carmen Ohio
If they fire Urban I will not watch a game this season. It won't hurt the players and it might hurt the networks and the university if enough of us do it.
I fully expect Urban back no later than week 3 and hopefully in 2 weeks or less. A fine for tripping over his tongue at B1G press day is sufficient.
Agreed. The OSU football program does not deserve the Baylor treatment for this situation (especially considering this centers around one low-level position coach contributing to a volatile marriage and not a third of the team sexually assaulting female students like it did at Baylor). Urban made a mistake with his words at the media day and has since admitted to it. The independent committee should make this decision based on facts and facts only with no outside media pressure influencing the decision. And right now the facts that have come out from the Powell PD are trending in Urban's favor and towards McMurphy having made up parts of his story about the 2015 incident. There is no reason IMO as it stands right now for this to end the same way the Tressel era ended.
Don't people have better things to do?
The media didn't.
Clearly BrutusB doesn’t have anything better to do.
Get a grip. Its a few dozen die hards standing up for a legendary coach they believe in. Nothing wrong with it. Smear campaign against a great man of integrity and we have people shaming them? Gtfo of here with the high horses. And stacy Elliott is another stand-up guy trying to do right by whis moral compass. Its embarrassing reading the bashing of those brave supporters. But I guess when you have to align your whole thinking process so that its level with certain writers on certain platforms its hard to get outside the groupthink tank. Cut them some slack.
You are only as big as the sheeple say you are.
I lol’d pretty hard at this.
Holy shit we found Tennessee Jeff’s 11W account.
Cut them some slack.

Sry about that
Also, who is Urban Mauer?
Also (part 2), why is a guy named Tennessee Jeff a guy that lives in Myrtle Beach and supports Ohio State? So many things are wrong about that.
You can’t convince me he’s not a plant from some other school.
It would be simply amazing if this guy was a Alabama Troll...
I would laugh so hard I would probably die... :)
I was trying to connect those dots too, wasn't working.
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Meh, nothing to see here really in my opinion. Now if 10,000 people showed up and started flipping cars that would be different. But this looks pretty harmless in my opinion. Doubt it's anything anyone even remembers in a week. I know I won't remember it.
Let them have their 15 minutes, I say.
Just because they don't have a nationally syndicated radio show doesn't mean their voices shouldn't be heard.
No shame in voicing your opinion.
Okay, you say it does no harm except the national media will now pounce on it and portray us like weird JoePa supporters. It helped nothing
Still waiting on the pounce. ...
I know their hearts are in the right place (minus the stupid crap), but it’s a very bad look right now. It’s hard to be patient but we’re going to have to wait until all the facts are cleared up. Holding a rally when everything isn’t clear doesn’t help our public image.
This gives me flashbacks to Bobby Petrino rallies. They were quite the bunch as well.
"The height of human desire is what wins, whether it's on Normandy Beach or in Ohio Stadium."
Well espn.com had a story on this stupid rally at the top of their headlines list. Of course there is no mention on their site today about Zach not getting arrested in 2015.
Stupidly of me I read the story and it freaking says this inside: “Ohio State placed Meyer on paid administrative leave last week after Courtney Smith, the ex-wife of former Buckeyes coach Zach Smith, told college football reporter Brett McMurphy that Meyer knew about a domestic abuse incident in 2015 and did not act.” That is not at all what she said. She said she believed he would have known because she was texting with Shelley. But there was no certainty of that. My God....
Of course it was Tennessee Jeff. Why wouldn't it be.
This makes me feel yucky.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
I think it’s a pretty safe bet that if anyone referring to themselves as “Tennessee” anything asks you for permission to do something you should abruptly decline that request lol
”Hi I’m Tennessee Kenny and I was wondering if I could”
No! No you can’t Tennessee Kenny.
”Hi I’m Tennessee Bob can I”
No Tennessee Bob you can’t.
Hi I’m Tennessee Jeff can I sing”
No, no, no, nonono please don’t do that..
You probably never heard of Tennessee Ernie Ford. And everybody get off the "mouth breathing, inbred southerners shtick". You look just like the caricature you're trying to create. And no I'm not a southerner but it's time to move past all this racist, regionalist hate shit and start treating others like you want to be treated. Maybe that's a good lesson.
Fair point. The "fake media", "snowflake", "liberal elitist" chapter of this site's dictionary, however, is equally tiresome and predictable.
Lighten up Francis... I’m only joking..
The future of comedy sure is looking bleak in this hyper sensitive PC era. I guess people will only be able to joke about the sun and trees in the future. And maybe the Irish I think we can still take a joke without getting our panties in a bunch..
Can you still say “panties in a bunch”? Or is that frowned upon too now?
Unless of course it involves several beers and a karaoke mic! Then yes sir Tennessee guy I would greatly enjoy this $h/t show about to go down!
My favorite part of this thread is that by the DVs you can tell 3 or four people attended the rally then got home and were pissed people are making fun of them.
It appears that they knew something but didn't tell anybody. ...
It was a joke ffs!
Yeah, and you sit behind your internet device pefect as can be.
^ see? There’s one.
Weak sauce. My name is John Blair. I'm in Bloomdale Ohio. I choose to take some halfass accountability for what I say, here. I have no shame for my opinion. Sad some here on 11W have so many negative things to say about people you do not know.
Let it go man. BrutusB is a Meyer hater and nothing is going to change that.

This post is to those of you posting the rally was an embarrassment. I find it embarrassing that you would speak out against the rally goers. I’m a little embarrassed at myself for speaking up against you guys too. Good thing we live in America where we are all free to say what we want to the extent of embarrassment.

On a positive note it's 10:05 pm here in Ohio and TTUN STILL SUCKS!
Takes more sack to actually show up in person and stand up or unite for something or someone you truly believe in then it does to sit behind a cloud of anonymity at home/work hurling insults towards those actually taking ACTION. I wouldnt attend that rally in a million years but I damn sure wouldn't harshly judge those that choose to do so.
I agree Oden. Some casting shame on this protest are also the same who have posted over 100 comments on this site, since the Meyer situation came about.
"It makes us look like Joe Bots!"....but if they can't see me, or don't know who I am....I'm not one of them.
"Makes us look like we only care about football!" But make over 100 posts in a week, on a sports website...probably not because they are worried about CS....
Tis something to behold.
You’re right when it’s a worthy cause, but because none of us know what the investigation will show, these people are all rushing to defend Urban without evidence, meanwhile they criticize the media for condemning Urban without evidence.
Gary - That’s exactly why this is embarrassing.
Lock of the week: Trending in the wrong direction
This achieved no goals except inviting ridicule on this fan base.
Praise good actions, criticize bad actions. This was a bad action and an incredibly tone deaf one at that. I'm over the "at least they did something" schtick.
And Elliott’s father should be more worried about Zeke breaking 500 more NFL rules...

Brady was charging $250 per autograph 12 years ago. But sure let’s focus on Zeke
What is Tennessee Jeff was an Alabama troll? Man.. thank fully I believe he is just a moron who likes to hear himself yell...
who is the fat dude leading that is outta breath ?
I have to admit this all makes me chuckle a little bit. I can remember back when the Columbus PD used to have to shut down High Street at least once a month and that didn't even make the news most of the time. A couple people holding some signs? People wouldn't even bat an eye at that. Now get off my lawn!

The lunatic fringe of the OSU fan base. Only thing missing was a big fat dude with a fake tan to whip up the crowd.
"In America, anyone can become president. That's the problem." George Carlin
I know this is a bad look for the school, but this is just scratching the surface as far as stupid protests go. Walk across any college campus, and you'll see some people yelling about something. After that student stabbed those people in 2016, there was a protest the next day against the officer that shot him, called it "police brutality."
This Tennessee Jeff guy is harmless. He'll be back on the beach tomorrow drinking Bud Light.
I love it when good perspective enters the room
Well at least we get to look forward to Tennessee Jeff screaming into his phone for 5+ minutes on a certain 97.1 The Fan radio show every week soon. “Hahaha what a wild and crazy guy” no. He’s an idiot and I change the channel every time.
"Aut viam inveniam aut faciam!"
I thought that was the same guy that calls into vomitman
So much hate...
"The only good thing about it is winning the d*** thing" - Urban Meyer on The Game The War
While I would not attend this rally, I'm like "whatever". I don't see it as embarrassing at all. And I don't care what ESPN and Finebaum think about it.
You want to see an embarrassing rally? Lookup Cleveland Browns fans having a parade to "celebrate" going 0-16. That takes the cake.
If I were still in Columbus, I would have attended it.
The media and internet opinions are controlling the narrative. I applaud this guy for standing up and reminding ESPN and everyone else that we support our coach. It's a reminder to the media that we are the largest fanbase in college football and we won't stand by as some jackass wannabe journalist tries to take our program down and a good man with it.
I don't care if it seems awkward. Keep making noise. There's only so much that internet pissing contests can do.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
I love this. Buckeye Nation needs to support Coach Meyer! He did everything 100% by the book! Get him back with the team!
He did everything 100% by the book!
You assuming this is just as bad as the media assuming he was covering everything up for years. I hope hope hope hope and pray he did everything 100% by the book, but we won't know that until the investigation is done and all the facts come out. Let us not be hypocrites.
Tone-deaf in more than one way.
I'm not sure how to feel about this. I support Urban and feel like he should get his job back. I don't think this rally is as bad as most media and fans are making it, but at the same time, I wish the fucking weirdos didn't make those signs. It would have been nice to have a rally to support DV while also supporting Urban Meyer.
Pretty sure you meant to say have a rally to support DV victims.
Sean Connery is that you?
All you people hating on the rally for how it looks. That is exactly what is wrong here. The media firestorm is about perception. Everyone is worried about perception instead of the truth. If coach Meyer gets the axe it is because of perception. So if you hate the rally but love the message... Perhaps you are more worried about perception as well. The world gets a backbone when it does what is right not what is perceived to be right.
I fully expected to see Buck I Guy and Big Nut to be in every picture
Absolutely nothing wrong with holding this rally ..... Coach Meyer has had to sit back and listen to hack so-called professional journalists and media people line up to take shots at him and his character over something which, within the next two weeks, will prove to be little more than the desperate attempt by some former ESPN hack to get some attention.
An "embarrassment" to support a person who has done so much in bringing the university back to the top of college ladder ?? While no one had to attend, those who deem the rally an embarrassment must feel that he should be removed as HC, since I see absolutely nothing wrong with showing support for a person who has been unjustly attacked ....
While no one had to attend, those who deem the rally an embarrassment must feel that he should be removed as HC
I want Urban to be reinstated. I think the rally is embarrassing.
Why is it embarrassing ?? People exercising their right to express their opinion ....
The only video I could watch was Stacy Elliott - the 1st one is ridiculous and embarrassing!
I kinda figured this rally was gonna have mixed feelings from the forum. Would I have attended it? No. Do I have a problem with the folks that did attend? No.
Wondering how you guys feel about the petition w 25k signatures in Columbus to reinstate Urban?
I'm fine with an online petition. However this "rally" was embarrassing for OSU and Urban. I understand where their heart is, but it makes for a similar look to that school to the east. Just not a good look...
I was just happy to see a protest for a cause I agree with.
But I see your point, however, the educated and informed person knows the situation at tOSU no where near comparable to the 50+ convicted felonies of 4 Univ employees for 25+ yrs of systematic cover up.
Not to mention the university's own scandal regarding the wrestling program that is currently going on.
Anyone notice how virtually no one in the crowd is under the age of 50?
I noticed that, but I'm certainly not surprised.
I wouldn't have been caught dead there, but I know a 6pm rally off 315 during rush hour was probably the worst possible time for anyone who was interested.
Also, Kohl's must have completely sold out of cargo shorts to sustain the rallygoers.
LMAO @ "Kohl's must have completely sold out of cargo shorts to sustain the rallygoers."
You do realize that this happened within walking distance of a university of 50,000 students, right?
I'm not sure about everyone else, but I was waiting for the, "We Are....."
This is a terrible look! Reminiscent of PSU circle jerk to support Joe. Disgraceful...
I think I know who everyone who attended that rally voted for...
I think we know, after your 20+ posts in a forum topic, your opinion on it.
You are a dead horse beater.
Everyone has a right to vote, as well. That is out of your control. Sorry you can't love your brother and must focus on a percieved negative.
Zach Smith did it
BR13: I suspect that you're right, as well as guess that you and I probably vote similarly. That said, I'm hoping that the conclusion of this investigation will see 11W return to its "no politics" approach in regards to the comments section. I'm not blaming mods as I think this development has been very difficult to police with so many strong emotions and opinions out there. I'm also not so naive as to think that there are not "politics" in any controversial topic such as domestic violence and personnel decisions. Too often, however, posters have used names, catch-phrases, and insults to inject pretty naked partisan commentary where it really is not needed. The details in this debate are complicated enough to elicit great discussion; the inclusion of political commentary simply derails this discussion more often than it enhances it.
After all of this, I'd love to see the down-vote go away as well, but that's another forum...
Not saying it is right or wrong to hold a support rally for Urbz. To each their own, but I am surprised at the number of people here who are extremely concerned how things might look. I think often a lot of those kind of people often won't do the right thing in a situation where doing so means taking an unpopular stance, because they're just too afraid of how it might look.
I support Urbz based on the info that is out there. If circumstances change and other damming information comes to light that changes the situation well I'm a man and I will admit that I was wrong. I'd rather stand for something I believe in than be a lemming that worries about the prevailing popular sentiment. Just because something is popular doesn't make it right.
Haters gonna hate and Bert is gonna Bert.
I am surprised at the number of people here who are extremely concerned how things might look.
I think understanding how your actions will be perceived is usually important, but it's especially important when you're holding a rally. That's the whole POINT of a rally - to get a message across and to have your voice be heard. Therefore, it's critical you understand how people are interpreting your message.
I support Urbz based on the info that is out there. If circumstances change and other damming information comes to light that changes the situation well I'm a man and I will admit that I was wrong.
This is the key bit that takes this rally from "justifiably supportive" to "embarrassing". Why hold a rally about something you don't know the facts about? Sure, you can support your coach, but if information comes out that he improperly handled things, a lot of that support likely would and probably should fade.
So, when you have a group of people supporting a coach in a scenario where all the facts have yet to come out, the message being sent out is that of blind support. That, despite the absence of all of the facts on the matter, we are and WILL support our coach.
I don't disagree with anything you say. I was just saying there are plenty of people, not all mind you, that are more concerned about how things look sometimes than in possibly doing what is right. Not disparaging anyone specifically here, because I don't know enough about an individual's specific motive or mindset to judge.
I get what you're saying and don't disagree with it. I guess I mean that when you are joining that rally's mindset. Despite your own specific motive or mindset, the rally has its own message, its own mindset. The presence of this rally itself creates that message given the circumstances. A lot of people probably did have mindsets that I would agree with, but the rally itself is where the misstep was. It screams tone-deaf.
I wish the media had an ounce of credibility and could put this rally in context. A weak showing of ~200 t-shirt fans is in no way reflective of how most Ohio State fans are feeling right now. I'm hoping Urban wasn't complicit in any of this and acted appropriately, but if not, then send him packing. That rally last night was completely tone deaf and gave another black eye to my school.
If all the facts were known, I might have an opinion on this. Right now, I don’t think Meyer should be fired but that could change. I hope the media is dead wrong and these people are right. Don’t know how either can be so steadfast without having access to ALL information. Time will tell.
Bravo. Coach Meyer needs your support. Only wish more supporters had shown up. Bravo.
For the people who don't understand why people think it is a bad look, it is because the school is doing an actual investigation into whether the coach actually did anything wrong or not. To most people there is no evidence to say that he did wrong. Still, no one knows if the investigation will find anything. So, in order to say there was an objective investigation done, people have to actually wait for facts or findings to be revealed. So until the facts come out, no has to make any proclamation about the coach. There will come a more appropriate time to have a support Meyer rally, but that time isn't here yet.
I find it funny, in a sad way, that BUCKEYE fans are upset with other BUCKEYE fans who felt the need to express their feelings about the current situation. What was the harm? to those fans who were there yesterday, kudos for you. O H
16-2 is SWEET!
This looked bad to me since the investigation is ongoing. But its on the same level as people in the general public calling for Meyer to be fired before the investigation is finished. I would rank any media person taking a hard stand a worse look since people getting paid to do a job should be less stupid than the average individual.
