Was a fun game to watch, though not perfectly played. Looked like the S & G folks were having a good time. Good luck to them all the way to the last win.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
The ‘one and done’ rule surely helped Ohio State bring in some tremendous talent that may have otherwise gone straight into the NBA but it has also presented the ‘what could have been’ questions. I wonder what could have been had the 2006 recruiting class been paired with Koufos and Turner in 2007 or Koufos with Turner and Mullens in 2008 or Turner with Diebler, Lighty, Buford, Sully and Thomas in 2010. It seems like Matta could have at least one NC with some of the combos.
Agreed, but Matta could have had two National Championships as is, it just didn't work out. No one can convince me that the 2010-11 Buckeye team (Craft, Sully, Diebler, Lighty, Buford, Lauderdale, Thomas) was not the best in the country. They went 34-3 and their two regular season losses (@Purdue, @Wisky) were avenged by blowout wins in Columbus. Who can forget the 'Deal With It' massacre of Wisky on Senior night at The Schott? And that 2 pt loss to Kentucky, I still claim that the Buckeyes beat that team 4 out of 5 times. They just caught us on a really off night, especially for Buford. No loss in my lifetime of being a Buckeye fan hurts more than that one.
As for the 2006-7, as much as I hate to say it, Florida was the better team, but not by much. And I am not sure we have seen a team return all 5 starters after a National Title nor will we see it again. Especially since 3 of those starters were sure fire NBA players: Brewer, Horford, and Noah.
So it really was a tough break that Matta didn't get a Natty. But 5 Big Ten Championships, 4 BTT Championships, 5 Sweet 16s, and 2 Final 4s is a damn fine resume'.
I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.
I agree that we were by far the best team in the country in 2010-11. And I was at that title game v Florida. I'm not totally in agreement about Florida being the better team in '06'07, the only reason they won was that they got hot behind the 3 point line and we were ice cold. If we had shot our season average from 3 we'd have won that day. Oden totally dominated the entire game inside and we had a 48-20 advantage in the paint. I think the teams were fairly evenly matched but I do think we were slightly better, just couldn't hit anything from outside.
Oh yeah, they definitely could have won that game. It seemed like the only game all tournament the refs allowed Oden to play his game and he flourished because of it. Jamar Butler in particular had a nightmare shooting game reminiscient of Buford against Kentucky in 2011.
That being said, if I had to pick a team in a 7 game series, I probably would go with Florida, but I would expect 7 games. In 2011, I don't think there was a team in the country that could take the Buckeyes to a 7th game, let alone win a 7 game series against that squad.
If the Buckeyes had just shot their season average from three point range the Buckeyes would have won that NC. And it was not because of Florida's defense either , they missed open shots. Florida was hardly that much better , it was just their night.
I thought Oden was going to play? No mention of him on team the last few articles?
Not available until next weekend (as long as Scarlet and Gray wins today). They may need him since Sully may not me available due to getting married.
Fun to watch the horses from the past play together - like a nationallly televised alumni game. But hearing Paul Keels on the play-by-play left me hoping it was football season. And to boot - an 11W shoutout during the broadcast.
Planning on going to the games in Atlanta!
Those t-shirts the players wore were fire
Why did they play at Capital instead of at the Shot?
"Cause I couldn't go for three!"
Probably to keep their costs down. They play the final four in a 4,000 seat gym.
I was at Capital all weekend. The atmosphere was awesome. But that place holds 2k. Even if you get twice the attendance at The Schott, you have 4k in a building that holds 19k.
It goes from an awesome atmosphere to terrible.
Yep, makes sense.
I was there as well and it was fantastic, loved the relaxed parking and short walk. Also loved the families of players from all teams right there beside us. It was interesting listening to each talk about their loved one and hoping for the best! I and my family had a great weekend and if so fortunate will do so again next year!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
Any word on why Mullens was not there Sunday or if he will play the remainder of the TBT ?
