Mission Hills has a pretty good football program, so when I saw that Olave had committed from there I wasn't all that shocked that they had a "good enough" player that had made it to a big time program. I do try to keep an eye on what's happening in this area, though (there is a TON of D1 talent around here in all sports that usually winds up staying on the west coast), so my initial reaction was, "Chris who?"

Glad he's headed to the good guys, but the jury is out on his upside, I think. We'll have to trust the coaches' instincts.

The only thing that's new in the world is the history that we have forgotten.

I love how some kids from the west coast are willing to take the jump and travel to the 614. This kid will grow into something special for the Buckeyes.

Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!

It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.

intriguing story, no doubt.  ...some unusual hidden attributes?

Welcome to Columbus!

He may not hit the field this year but I think he'll be in line to get plenty of PT after Zone 6 departs.

i was trying to remember those few we 'knew' couldn't... due to truisms like "not big enough for Big 10 football".

Yea... Mike Polaski, said Woody!  He's the oldest i recall...

"In line"?  That captured my sarcasm font [it wasn't me, Seattle, the font did it].  Why would a thin slow guy want to be "in line" with all those bigger faster stars?  He'd just look thinner and slower so it'd be harder for the coaches to see him...to put him on the 'scout team'.

you mite have guessed i am was small, but slow in my ... hay-day.   ;-{)}  OH...the trauma i suffered!   ;-{)}

Remember the movie starring Dustin Hoffman, "Little Big Man"?  It's... related....

Yeah, he very much passed MY eye test. He looked plenty fast to me. He appears to have very soft hands and looked smooth in his routes and coming down with the ball. The WR position is one where there are so many intangibles that can’t be captured in a 40 time. Looks like a very solid get!

Perhaps Olave could be compared to Evan Spencer, since Spencer's forte was route running/blocking and not beating everyone down the field. If Olave can match the production of Spencer, the Buckeyes have a keeper.

Chris looks like he has top end speed to me. Long stride speed may look slower, ala Pryor, but the way he glides past defenders says to me, Olaves' got wheels. Same thing was said about Weber. When I watched Mike live, he never got caught from behind in those 3 games. #goodvibes

now who's that ol' all-time pro SF WR... 'only' a 4.5 40... but nobody could catch him from behind?

i guess all 4.5s aren't the same...they just feel/look/touch/smell that way???   ;-{)}

Enjoying trying to figure out with fellow fan...the secret of his once and future success !

To me, Olave looks like a deep ball, home run threat. I see this kid being a receiver who can take the top off the defense. My projection is he plays his 4 games this year and is a solid contributor by next year.

Thought the same. Not trying to act smarter than those evaluating on this site but I was left with more of a positive impression that he’s going to be a baller.

Easy to see why coaches like him:  his height, his hands... underthrow me, overthrow me, just get it near me and I'll go up and get it.

Not only do Buckeyes recruit less in CA than in the Midwest and South, an arguable mistake, because California is up there with Ohio and Texas in producing top recruits... but OSU is a tougher sell to a California kid than UCLA or USC, if only because of climate and family. So Buckeye coaches did something special in attracting Chris, and I'm glad they did.

Welcome to the Buckeyes, Chris Olave!

SO happy he decided to leave California but still surprised he did with all the benefits playing in his own backyard.

This kid is a steal. He’s a faster Danny Davis, Top WR at Wisky. Not classified as a burner, but he has a knack for getting behind guys. I think he’ll be a good player for us. I’ve read that he’s ultra competitive and a great all around athlete.
