Mumford excelling will be an important part of this years successful campaign.  And 1 September ain't that far off!  No matter how hard I try, it's difficult not to be excited for this football team.

Now Coach Holtmann and his staff are making the bb team's future just as exciting.

As folks keeps saying, what a time to be a Buckeye?

Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!

Also in on Thayer Munford locking down that left side - his is a huge responsibility this season, and think he rises to the challenge.

Should he, Brady Taylor, and the Train settle in early, we're in for some fireworks in offense.

I love a good underdog story, as do most people. The Munford and Coleman stories are a lot of fun. Plus Munford will make for a great recruiting pitch. Even our lowest rated recruits turn out better than some schools top recruits.

The Carton verbal is LARGE, this dude looks like he can really play at the next level. But the domino effect this might have with landing other top-ranked recruits could be the true benefit of landing the young man.

Double edged sword here. It’s great to have these sorts of high level talents, but I’m worried about longevity in basketbuck performance. Hoping he both lures some more talent to surround him and also gets them to stick around.

You're not wrong, but for the next couple of classes I'll take them for how long they want to stay. If he lives up to top 21 potential, the chances of him staying more than 1 year are slim anyway. But we do need stability too.

Michigan coming off a national title appearance and still losing five-star recruits to Ohio State. Chris Hotlmann may be good at his job, folks.

I went to Mgo to drink some tears and their excuses are so hilarious. Saying he’s actually about 5-10, that OSU paid him, that he wouldn’t be able to crack the lineup at UM, how superior their team is to ours (even though we beat them last year when we’re picked to finish 11th in the BIG), like their team is this dynasty, they diss KBD’s draft status, and on and on. The tears taste amazing!

Disappointed with Elliott. Grateful for what he did on the field for the Buckeyes but there just seems to be too many "it's about me" stories with him. Don't know how much true charity work he does so maybe it's too harsh of a take on him but there continues to be more negative than positive stories off the field with him. Of course negative situations always make for better media stories.

Face value says jerk move. But curious what the circumstances are behind both the delay as well as the merchandise issue. Maybe the autograph signing was organized by someone else, who told him what he could and could not sign?

Just curious if there aren’t more details. But otherwise , agreed. It does look disappointing.

Zeke is the CEO of his brand. If this schtuff is happening, he’s letting it happen. No way a responsible celebrity shows up two hours late to an autographing event where he’s only signing his merchandise and doesn’t know about it beforehand.

HS
bigtenspeed's picture

I agree. We don’t know the circumstances but two hours late? On the surface seems out of touch and selfish. I get the merchandise rule as long as it was made known to the fans in advance.

Side note Tyler Naquin was in the lineup for the Indians yesterday but still ran over the fence and signed a ball for my daughter right before the game. Very cool of him.

HS
Frimmel's picture

I thought the story just said he was late without specifying how late. His lateness made some folks be in line for two hours which doesn't indicate how late he was. But the folks who waited two hours might have been queued up well before he was scheduled to start. You were in for a long wait with him in any case.

As to  only signing his own merchandise most of the more popular folks at these sorts of things have some limit or such so as to "keep the line moving" and "keep the line shorter." I'd guess also there is something to do with the celebrity's appearance fee mixed in with that as well.

The last line of the story is the real information :

Fans were mostly irked that Elliott would only sign his own merchandise, which included a shirt, which fans could buy for $25.

Most only learned this after previously being told they could have two items signed with no stipulations on the type of items.

Folks waited in line with the wrong information.

Key word there is "wild".  Wild turkeys most certainly can and do fly, but the domestic ones that end up on 99.9 percent of Thanksgiving tables don't.  The WKRP program that featured that bit was most likely the funniest program episode ever aired in the history of television.  I thought I would die laughing that night.

Sometimes the simple answer is the most helpful. Good for the Indonesians on fixing Raskin(to an extent at least) with postcards. If this helps to get the poor more rations and keeps the local governments from taking advantage, then well done work.

The Zeke story is disappointing, but doesn't necessarily explain it all. I would hope that it was clear well beforehand that he would only sign his own items, but if that wasn't the case then he pulled a fast one which isn't cool at all. I formerly managed a memorabilia store, and we quite often had autograph signings. As long as you publicize the parameters in advance things are usually ok. Guys are often late to such appearances, so most folks will be ok to an extent with having to wait, but if it was a bait and switch on what would be signed then that is simply the wrong way to go about things.

The Saints do seem to do things the right way, so it is not difficult to root for them. With so many former Buckeyes, and a still relevant Drew Brees, let them keep winning and being relevant. Just not over my Packers in the NFC.

DJ left the last line of the story out where folks were under the impression that it was "any two items" and not items bought from Zeke. The story of where it went from one situation to the other would be a better indicator of the level of "jerk" on Zeke's part. I've heard the story at events like this change over and over on what the parameters were.

HS
blueblazer22's picture

You are exactly right. Now that I read the entire link, the fans got screwed. This doesn’t necessarily mean it was Zeke that did it directly, but this is a bad look all the way around. His handlers may have come up with the parameters, but even so I find it hard to believe that Zeke would not have had any input. As far as being that late, no excuse. As I stated above, guys being late isn’t surprising, but 2 hours is ludicrous.

So all in all, not a good showing for Zeke or his people, and the promoter of this deal looks really bad.

I'm gonna assume that it's just me, but any person waiting in a line for two hours for an autograph (which I'm still unclear on what the value is of that truly is) from someone who plays sports has their priorities misaligned.  Athletes do not owe fans anything...yeah, I know, fans buy tickets.  But fans choose to buy tickets.  I'm not mad at Zeke, you stand in line with your kids when you could have been doing literally anything else is your fault.  We don't know why he was late and doesn't owe fans an explanation.  He only signed his things and we don't know the rationalization.  But its so much earlier in this time to just call someone a jerk.

I bleed scarlet...literally

Naw, he’s being a jerk. This is just the latest incident in a string of questionable behaviors that continually make Elliott look like an immature chump. Silver Sniper summed it up pretty well (although i seem to recall it really started when Bosa moved out of their apartment because Zeke was partying too much). As the saying goes: once is an accident, twice in a coincidence, three times is a pattern. This is like dumbass move #6 or #7 for Zeke.

And the story I'm hearing is that the promoters agreed in writing that Zeke would sign only his merch. Then the promoter flipped the script when he got there (wanted Zeke to sign the other crap being sold there). The 2 hour wait was for the lawyers to work it out. Good biz move by Zeke, IMO.

And a quick search of eBay maybe shows why Zeke has the rule?  Prices for Zeke autographed items (mostly cards - yes, many are under $100 but plenty are over $1000) -  $5,400, $610, $3621, $1899, $3890, $2500, $1249 etc.

I don't think that story demonstrates what you think it does.  Bosa has never had a whiff of controversy off the field (unless you count his contract).  Zeke has had multiple complaints about his behavior, from the serious (ie, police involvement) down to the trivial (autograph signings).  If Zeke couldn't get along with him, that says more about the former than the latter.

HS
Buckeye Jack's picture

Where does anyone say Zeke didn't get along with Bosa?  He just didn't characterize his roomie as a "Nice Guy".

And if there EVER is an actual arrest of Zeke, I may change my mind.  Its not like Zeke drove drunk and then tried to evade the police.

A lot of huffing and puffing about how gawd-awful Zeke is, but no official arrests - Ever.

He bought two Dallas Cowboys mini helmets expecting to get Elliott to sign them to use as a giveaway on his website but was denied.

“That’s the third time I’ve interacted with Zeke and he’s been a punk all three times,” said Villa, who shot a quick selfie video in front of Elliott voicing his displeasure. “And he just looked at me. He doesn’t care.”
