What Kane Patterson's Commitment Means For Ohio State's 2019 Recruiting Class

He not only shows tremendous speed when asked to attack off the edge [...] Patterson isn’t the fastest prospect, but compensates for that with his awareness, understanding of angles and solid closing speed.

Can you clarify this, i.e., is he fast or not?

Should have used "quickness" or "explosiveness" off the edge. There's a difference between distance speed and off-the-snap speed.

He must of played against a lot of slow teams because he looked rather fast to me taking several runs to the house. Go Bucks

Andrew:  excellent illustration of the value of precise definitions... distinctions... comparisons.  The building blocks of 'assessing'.

Question for all:  what's the difference between "read and react" and "anticipate", and how is it significant?

Alabama chose to accept a pledge this spring from Washington D.C. four-star inside linebacker Shane Lee, so it's easy to imagine there will be some ill will from Patterson if the Buckeyes ever face the Crimson Tide again in the College Football Playoffs.

Count it - Book it !!

This kid has all the intangibles.

Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!

It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.

Seattle... starting to look like this year [2019], UFM traded in some of those 'stars'... for 'intangibles'.  Now recognizing an intangible literally, necessarily means no person or group either 'possesses' it, nor 'has all' of it.

Which is darned essential for those seeking certain intangibles by counting this or that....

LBU.

I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...

HS

Hove - hmmm... from 'what happened to our LBs' to LBU in 1 season + a spring & summer?   Interesting....

Would that be 'credible'... or 'incredible'?   ;-{)}

The legacy remains.

New season, new faces, new opportunity.

Hove... now there's an OLB... 'move'.   ;-{)}

Huge 'get'! Huge!

Welcome aboard Kane!

GO BUCKEYES!

16-2 is SWEET!

a RB that hits like a LB, and a LB with RB moves... this is a very solid commit for the Bucks!  It will be interesting to see him develop.

I was extremely impressed watching his tape in the announcement posting, sorry to see here he suffered a torn ACL.  Hopefully he will come back looking like he did in what I assume were plays all from prior to his injury and suffers no further  issues.

Yeah, the ACL could be a bit of a wild card. Here’s to hoping his recovery is going well and no future issues!

Welcome to the family! I'll take football instinct and quickness off the ball at MLB over track speed every day of the week. If your MLB has to sprint constantly, your team is in biiiiiiiig trouble.

His closing speed is 5 Star Level.

When you're a LB and can read and anticipate correctly, its like gaining 3 steps. Lots of 4.48 LB's in the country who can't read properly, take two steps the wrong way and have to make those steps up (which is a wash when comparing a 4.47 guy and a 4.55 guy)

'65TPT  indeed.

solid illustration of how the formula of the relationship... explains/validates the components.

A tad better than counting them and stacking them on MyShelf or having them in MyBag!

Was excited and posted on the other thread about this kid. Didn't realize he had a ACL reconstruction.

I'd skip playing in the Polynesian Bowl to give that ACL some extra time to heal up. By all means go to the game and have fun. I would think twice though about playing.

...why did a picture of Tuf Borland come to mind as i read about Kane Patterson?

HS

Probably because they're really twins, much like these two guys...

maybe for you, not for me.

As i was reading, i saw words, to which i relied on definitions to fit together meaning.

He actually reminds me of Peter Werner.. Very similar style of play.

HS
Buck68's picture

Isn't Werner a tad bigger, faster?  Significant difference/potential... up toward an AJ Hawk?  IDK.

As for raw talent, IMO there's basically ...a lot.  But our LBs as a group last year looked more isolated than integrated; and that IMO points directly to coaching.  Now the players also finished strong after the Iowa debacle... what did our coaches change on D and at LB?

It's a good day.  We gained a linebacker and Alabama lost one.  Noted Goon and/or Savage,  Vandarius Cowen, was booted from the team today for the often cited offense of "breaking team rules".

A Tuf Borland clone with an ACL tear??? What in the world is going on with recruiting this year??????

But will he see the field soon enough to stop Shane Patterson (probably not...)? Glad to have him nonetheless, welcome.
