Dude looks like he could suit up and play D-1 tomorrow.

I propose the nickname Big Johnson.

From Johnson in an interview: “I felt like the opportunity to go to Ohio State and represent my state and play for an opportunity to win a National Championship while wearing the O on my jersey is something bigger,”... “I could have went to schools like Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and represented their school and state and future but I feel it’s bigger to me to represent my own state and be coached by the best coaching staff in the country with great players I built a relationship with.”

Easily my favorite recruit because of his reasoning for why he committed.

I love it when these great players can keep their nastiness/anger/hostility to on the field.

HS
Buck68's picture

Wyatt,

keep their nastiness/anger/hostility to on the field.

did Paris use these negative, emotional terms about the reasons for his commitment, and his motivation?

or..

did he say this elsewhere [or who said] about what he uses to motivate himself on the field?

IMO this is significant inasmuch as the differences between & consequence of positive & negative human emotions

TIA

thanks, Hov... missed the entire article and 150+  comments in... 2 hours.  Do i 'get a mention' i'm getting 'not quite as  quick'?   ;-{)}

HS

UD_  ...

indeed, the 'why', or bases for the action, or motivation, is much more significant than the ingredients / attributes of the person...

just as "it's what you DO with what you 'have', more than what you 'have'".

Anyone else sense that Paris' post that he literally means what he says [re commiting, flipping]...

is as significant as it is rare these days?   Like standing on a rock instead of the sands of our pride?

Like, how to turn diversity daze ...into each TODAY ... in a heartbeat?

Compare to the non-sequitur whatevers like 'stepping up', 'doing more'... etc ad nauseum.

Do Paris' words ... 'could Paris potentially maybe mean'... exactly what he said?

OH... NO?  Or OH... HI O!!!

HS

HS

the opportunities and gifts are just overflowing today....

hmm...

they are like each day, only...

i am 'seeing' what's already there... a tad 'more'....   ;-{)}

it's tempting, but really embarrassing, to take any 'credit' for 'seeing'... what's been there all along, is now, and is promised!

It blows my mind how huge these kids are these days.

HS
Buck68's picture

hmmm...

is it some "huge" that "blows our mind"?

or... that anything i can measure tangibly...

opens the door from tangible to... infinite intangible?

And this... 'could potentially be'... advantageous in a positive, useful, loving way?

As a young man, he seems really solid (a testament to his parents) and I don't foresee him flipping at all given his statements. Hopefully he'll help bring more top talent to the Buckeyes.

WOW!!! This is huge, did anyone even know he was close to an announcement? Big Boom for this one! This 2020 class is looking like it could be like something we've never seen if this momentum keeps up and we can close on all these top guys that are showing interest right now. So if Miller does what everyone expects on Sunday, will we look back and call this 13* week? LOL!

Locking down Cavazos, Johnson and Miller in a 1 week time frame, that's just crazy! Who knows, maybe we'll get another surprise like Johnson's from another one of these guys in the 2020 class that's showing a lot of interest? Looking at you Hubbard and Wingo! ;) LOL

BucknuutinNC...

can we do anything ... "to keep this momentum up"?

help 'it'?

deflate it?

Inquiring minds wanna know...

Diversity wants to no....

HS
BucknutinNC's picture

Well obviously with the momentum thing I was referring to the coaching/recruiting staff keeping the current momentum up. The "we" was used in reference to the Buckeyes in general, of which I am a lifelong fan and include myself as a "Buckeye" by birth and fandom. Obviously I personally don't have any control or influence in recruiting or it's momentum, but as a fan I do get excited over it both for the team and the individuals making the decisions themselves.

HS
BucknutinNC's picture

And the next we I used was in reference to being surprised by another commitment in the 2020 class. And the we directly refers to us "Buckeye fans" who follow recruiting, specifically those who join the discussion here on 11W and enjoy seeing what is to come in the future of TOSU football program. Hope that clears things up for inquiring minds and what not as far as what my meanings were behind the use of "we" and what not. Although I think most people with common sense probably understood all that just fine prior to any explanation. Now I think I'll go back to enjoying the recruiting news and discussion of same that "WE" Buckeye fans like to talk about on here. BTW "we" just got news of another commitment today in the 2019 class with Jordan Battle making his announcement! BOOM!

The entire point was to show how contrasting their respective recruitments were, a compliment to Johnson.

HS

Amen to that! Glad to see a truly top tier talent from Ohio take pride in his state and put it out there like Paris Johnson did! And making his decision this early to help head up the recruiting for his class, thats just awesome!
Really appreciate all the info you put out to us here on 11W Andrew!

descriptive comparisons produce contrast 'on the merits'...

'blowing our own horn' - in H&I - proclaims our conflict of interest and bias.  In Diversity, it's the trumpeting of 'you think/feel/say/do EXACTLY what I TELL you....

In debate/defeat, we're tempted to rationalize and blame... in discourse, we reaffirm our common standards - win, lose, or draw.

Right on, Andrew!  ;-{)}

HS
Buckeyeincleveburg's picture

Sounds like a great kid.  We are so lucky.

HS
Buck68's picture

one minor diff between "luck" and intent...

is purposeful merit, common interest, responsibility, and accountability.

OH... oops, that's 4...   ;-{)}

====

IMO Paris' words consistently mean he made his choices ON PURPOSE, and figuratively 'nailed them to the wall' of H&I.  Ya think Paris is 'old enough'?   LoL.... I think we are the ones, that 'need to think' about what Paris means....

I’m not so worried.  NPF and Wray the elder can hold it down for a period and these guys can step in after. May be some growing pains with an “in between year” if the 2019 guys end up at guard.

we’ll get it figured out

HS
bd2999's picture

The 2020 group is shaping up to be pretty great. Not that 2019 is going to be a down year, but maybe for OSU (which is saying something) but just seems pretty good so far in 2020.

Ohio State was once considered the front-runner for West Virginia five-star tackle Darnell Wright, but it’s been difficult to gauge the temperature of his recruitment since he’s a fairly low-key kid. Alabama and Tennessee are the biggest threats to the Buckeyes’ chances, though he did visit campus this past weekend.

Somehow i doubt "considering" is a prevalent behavior or motivation in Diversity.

May i opine from first hand 'experience' that it is "difficult to gauge" anything whilst on 'transmit' instead of 'receive'?"

Example1 - Like, is it of importance to characterize 'competition' as a "threat"... before we receive how Darnell

sees/describes/prioritizes it?

Example2 - IF he is a "low-key" kid... should we step-up and/or do more to turn up our transmit volume?

The most refreshing aspect of his disposition is he seems so coachable. I think Studs is going to love this guy. Throw in NPF and the Wray brothers, this could be a very special offensive line. If I were a 2020 RB I would be frothing at the mouth to run behind these guys. Paris also seems to be much more concerned with the Team winning than personal accolades. Having played for Coach Steve Rasso at St. X I can assure you that is drilled into us from the first day of weightlifting in the summer. Congratulations on making a great decision, Paris, can't wait to root for you at X and then OSU.

"Stand and Deliver!"

HS
stxbuck's picture

Great seeing a shout-out for Coach Rasso. I didn't play football at X, but I did have Coach Rasso as a gym teacher and can honestly say that A-he was a great guy, and B-actually gave a shit about being a good gym teacher/encouraging sports amongst everyone, not just filling time while drawing up stuff in his play book. If could ask Urban Meyer one question, it would be 'What did you learn about football/coaching from Steve Rasso"?
