I have never been worried about this because I trust urban.
High and tight boo boo
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
I trust Meyer with all things OSU Football.
And I trust he will streamline and improve his recruiting process of QB's.
The Buckeyes should not be jumping through "hoops" to get a Top 10 guy.
Top 3-5 guys should be begging TOSU to sign early.
When we get Miller to sign and the change in the offense (with Haskins) should help in the next 2-3 years for recruiting QB's.
Knowledge is Power
I’d really like to see us land Dwan Mathis by the end of this weekend because he’s not only the better prospect imo but because of the implication that he could help us land Dobbs and Barnett.
But if Mathis doesn’t want in, Maurer will be more than serviceable.
Nicholas l Ernst
I’d have to think that Mathis does want in. I can’t imagine MSU is happy about his visit with their policy. It will be interesting to see how they respond. Did they even know?
And totally agree with your comment about Dobbs and Barnett. This would be a major coup if we can secure Mathis this weekend. Fingers crossed!
Fields of Dreams
I think I remember last year at a camp Mathis was high on OSU and felt spurned he didn't get an offer. Then like two weeks later he committed to MSU.
I believe MSUs policy is you can take other visits if you tell the coaches beforehand. Which seems fair IMO.
True Brutus. That’s like most programs.
The “you visit, you gone “ only is for Lower tier commits.
Is Mathis tight with Dobbs/Barnett? Obv they're from same state/area, but it looks like they are from different schools. Asking cause I legit have no idea.
It does seem like a bit of a stretch that he'd cause 2 guys to flip their commitments, unless they were like best buds growing up or something. I'd be really happy with just his commitment, anything else would be gravy
He’s friends with them but I’m not trying to guarantee a flip for Barnett by any means but with MSU losing their prize jewel QB at this point would set them back big time and Barnett and Dobbs would take notice for sure. And I think OsU is currently #2 on both of their lists
More than likely, MSU’s remaining commits would circle the wagons and link arms in a sign of solidarity. One guy leaving is not likely to translate into a mass exodus unless he’s the head coach or maybe an assistant.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
He went to Belleville as a freshman, but transferred to Oak Park his sophomore year. Doubt a flip would have much of an impact though because Barnett was especially close with Coombs (and I’ve been told that ended Ohio State’s chances) and they’re not especially sold on Dobbs or recruiting him hard right now.
Ok makes sense. Thanks for the info!!
I agree with this 100% Andrew. It seems as we are targeting great talents on the OLine, but they all seem to be tweeners. 6'4"- 6'-5" guys who are not especially long. Was really hoping for a commit from the 6'8" guy from RI who is going to GA. Need more prototypical huge tackle type guys like Munford who we can slim down a bit and improve quickness, or Nicholas Petit-Frere who are long frames and lean while being really quick footed, but need to bulk up a bit in the dojo. Dobbs seems to be a guard at the college level IMO.
Mathis just showed up to fuck with you guys and rub it in...#italics
" It's real good whatcha done Anthony, real good ! "
Maybe but any smart kid out there no matter what should take all the visits they can. Simply it leaves no doubt they selected the correct school for themselves. That's why so much flipping goes on either they commit to soon or have doubt. We don't buy the first car we see if you have any smarts.
Commitments (many times) are just for kids to hold their spots these days in case worse comes to worst. You are correct though, why not go see everything you can see and take it all in. The only down side is that while you are looking around, you cannot be a true leader for your class and start building bonds with the other commits. But really, every person needs to do what is best for them at the end of the day and go where they feel most comfortable.
Congratulations to Brian Maurer on earning the offer.
now he just needs to make the big jump.
come on Brian, the water is warm...
16-2 is SWEET!
I never worry about Coach Meyer and how good he and his staff recruits. Congrats to Maurer on his offer he earned.
QB recruiting hasn't been A1. Look at Collier and wasn't JT a reach at the time? This year is not for sure yet and last years circus and we are not sure how that young man will pan out yet.
JT was a highly rated 4-star. The staff knows what theyre doing.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
JT was NOT a reach. Baldwin was and Mauer is C recruits.
Calling Baldwin a reach is a reach itself. Dude had an amazing senior year, which was the only chance he had given that he was behind other D1 QBs at Lake Travis. Hell, he played WR his junior year, so the kid is definitely an athlete. I'll wait until I see him play a college game before I consider his status.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Baldwin was #3 or 4 on the list. BEST case scenario
He didn’t even enter the picture until Fall. There’s a reason for that. That’s called plan B or C. Sorry.
Not saying he won’t succeed here but those are the facts.
Baldwin wasn't on hardly anyone's list. He wasn't plan A, B, C or Z. But he was 71/93 (76.3%) for 693 yards, 10 TDs and zero INTs as a junior mopping up for a guy who started the last five games for Baylor as a true freshman (Charlie Brewer). Yet Colorado State offered Baldwin and he verbally committed to the Rams before starting a game. Clearly, he was better than CSU.
Last year, Baldwin led a Lake Travis offense that scored the 3rd most points in school history (335), 2nd most pass attempts (475), 3rd best completion percentage (70.5%), 3rd most passing TDs (53), 4th best QBR 130.3), 5th most passing yards (4,577), and 5th most passing yards per game (286.1). That's at a school with a reputation as a QB factory (Baker Mayfield, Garrett Gilbert, Charlie Brewer and his older brother and Buckeye slayer Michael).
Baldwin was on our C list.
Yes look at Collier, 2 degrees in his hand. Future work life is going to be awesome.
Could it be because QBs see themselves as future NFL talents and the OSU scheme positions them as dual threat QBs ? I just don’t understand why Meyer is offering a pro style QB when he doesn’t employ a pro style system.
We have a pro style quarterback now.
Can’t even remember the name of the QB who decommited to go to Oregon to be a wide receiver...and that opened the door for Simba to take over the pride. Recruiting far from an exact science.
Heck took my boy on a college visit to ND...thought he would love it...was there 10 minutes and he said let’s get out of here. You just never know with 17 year olds.
If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.
What really opened the door to get Haskins was UMD firing Randy Edsall and not hiring Mike Locksley as his replacement.
Dwayne Haskins timeline:
Tristen Wallace timeline:
Yep, Maryland was a hot mess at the time. Multiple players were dismissed, coaching staff fired.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
C'mon Iowa, you know Tressel sealed the Haskins recruitment 12 years ago /s
thx for the update...now all i need to do is google TVCC...
Saw Mathis play last year against Groves.
While groves is a mid level playoff team, he was a man against boys
I want this kid as a buckeye
I’d be more than happy with Maurer or Mathis. Regardless, Miller is the big fish I want reeled in for 2020.
"Age wrinkles the body, quitting wrinkles the soul" Woody Hayes
Doesn’t matter, 2019 is a clipboard holder. It’s haskins for 2, Martell for 2 then Miller for 2. Hope they make the most of their free ride.
kids aren’t dumb; they know this, which is the exact reason we’re “struggling” in qb recruiting for 2019
Sounds like you have it all figured out.
It may play out that way, but I think you are sort of degrading others, in a round about way. I’m quite sure Baldwin didn’t come here to hold a clipboard, and I’m quite sure Maurer or Mathis wouldnt come here for that reason either, when they can potentially star elsewhere. Again, it may play out as you said, but I think it’s absurd to dismiss others simply because they weren’t as highly thought of coming out. I remember plenty of high rated guys that didn’t pan out(Joe Pickens), and vise versa(Troy Smith/Cardale Jones). Lower rated guys are still extremely talented to ever have a shot to commit to OSU in the first place, and often, the higher rated guys may have simply developed faster
I was being sarcastic towards facemeat. He implies that the 2019 QB is going to hold the clipboard, and acts like the 2018-2019 QB's are merely a depth gap between Haskins/Martell and Jack Miller. Apparently Haskins will be a QB for 2 more years, and then Martell for 2 years before Jack Miller takes over. That's impressive to have that all figured out 4 years in advance.
Because I couldn't go for three
Face - what if we have an injury?
2019 is more critical than you think or know.
Hey Face, I’m checking back in a bit late to your response. Honestly, I’m probably in your corner with your thinking. It’s imperative to get Miller. If that happens I’m not sweating this qb hulaboo. Of course, it’s dog eat dog, and best man wins, and winner winner chicken dinner. So, take someone now, especially if he is wowing the coaches. Depth is irrelevant to a kid who wows and wants in at that point.
Is there something in the water of ohio? Or are you guys just as good as the "experts" at qb evaluation? Let me tell you all something you obviously don't know about Maurer. If you look at his tape it's around 10 min long. About the same as anyone else in the country. The difference is Maurer only has 1.8 sec from snap to sack if he doesn't make a move. Compare that to the 3.9 seconds that your top target Gunnell had and it'll tell you Maurer is better. Just as many and impressive highlights with less than half the time.= faster progressions. Now compare Maurer to the #1 qb in this class (Rattler). Rattler plays for a football school where Maurer plays for a school known for performing arts. Rattlers highlight reel shows more time, questionable decision making and a wr core full of Dez Bryants. Maurers shows accuracy under pressure, dropped balls(around 10 per gm), and the ability to escape. If you ask me, when you add all that up you have the best qb in the country not named Spencer Rattler. His name is Brian Maurer. Yet the ohio fan base and coaching staff repeatedly call him things like C recruit or bandaid due to the fact that his team hubbers around .500 every year. I would argue he may be better than the one you're waiting on for 2020. Do any of you know that his numbers on that same team are better than the 4* 2018 qb from the same area Nkosi Perry(miami commit)? If you think I'm full of crap ask yourself why Maurer of all qbs at the elite 11 came out of nowhere. Ask yourself why Gunnell wasn't even mentioned. Then ask yourself why all of you give this kid such a hard time. There's no doubt in my mind that IF he came to Ohio State he would take the starting job. But with the level of support I've seen he should put them at the bottom of his list and move on.
It's the offseason, 102.
It's high drama, and the boards are full of strong opinions.
I've said from the get that Ohio State will get their guy...character is as much as talent, and UFM has proven that during his tenure in Columbus.
Welcome to the site, you'll learn to roll with the hottakes.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
You brought it pretty strong 102u! Me, I’m a believer.
I don't mean to get bent out of shape. Its just frustrating knowing that some guys out there (no names) are being paid millions to do exactly what I just did in 10 min to evaluate a qb. You got to look at the team surrounding him to determin how good the kid is. Maurer has 0 kids on his team that are going to the next level at this moment unless something changes. Miller..... good o line, excellent rb...... and a def that'll make 4/5 stops a game. You guys got Mathis and that's good your qb situation is better now. But the truth is ohio state never had a chance at Maurer anyway. Not his style of offense. That style is good for rbs, o line but a dead end for qbs. Once he got over the big name offer excitement he would've figured that out on his own. And overall , from what I read, the fan base thought of him as a settlement anyway. He'll go somewhere that sees what I see and make a name for himself. He deserves better. In fact if I were a buckeye faithful I would be more worried about Miller staying once he gets there.
One thing is for certain, nothing usually works out the way it would seem. Some of these guys look like sure-fire can’t miss prospects and for whatever reason don’t pan out and some guy off of the radar that no one expects to do anything significant comes in and lights it up. You just never know.
When you lose, say little. When you win, say less.
From what I've been reading Maurer has been outperforming Mathis in the camps.
Is it just me or does this kid look like a young Urban Meyer in that picture?
You've got barbecue back there?
Congratulations to this young man.
Maurer is the sleeper nobody heard of. Until recently. The upside on this dude is silly. Think Dan Marino with working knees. I have to hand it to our staff. They scour the earth to find some of the best potential football players and when they land them they give them everything but will to help them develope into world class football players. Maurer is going to be an all in recruit for Tennessee so this should be a fun one to watch. And yea I said Dan Marino.
Hey Cancer! This ass kicking is brought to you by the Guernsey county mafia. Give it Hell 84!
Agreed on the athletic talent.
Looking at the "posed" picture by the "Waterfall"...
Lets do some squats at parallel, and some RDL's...Maybe some Single Leg Bulgarian Split Squats....
....to put some meat on those legs.
4 Way "neck work" and some basic upper stuff ....will....help.
Kid probably has gotten into the weight room...because of the non-stop 7-on-7 seasons.
Mickey is that you?
Hilarious! I'm gonna have to incorporate some of those as well.
Maurer isn’t a sleeper. He’s an Elite 11 contestant
Remember how Michigan State pulled Gavin Cupp's offer when he visited Friday night lights,at least that is how I think I remembered it. Hopefully we can flip Mathis and make Coach D mad again and listen to their fan base again say they didn't want him anyway.
I'll bet things our different with a QB than they were with an OG.
Congratulations to Brian Maurer, this entire thing will come together yet.
Is this a “commitable” offer or is UFM still waiting on A Mathis decision?
Next 48 hours will tell. They hope to flip Mathis. If not, we move to Mauer
Kid looks like a grinder - Congrats !!
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
I dunno about this Maurer kid. He wasn't even recruited by SCUM' baseball team, let alone committed. /s
Is that the Maurer train pulling into the station? All aboard.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
does any of the 11W writers have any insights from actual recruits as to why there seems to be such Luke warm receptions from the QB recruiting front? perhaps some off the record insights?
Highlight clip, Kid passes the eye test
Bucks Fan since 1970
Where were all the #Booms?
They’re coming...eventually. Patience, grasshopper.
Maybe these pro-style recruits are waiting to see how the Buckeyes use Mr. Haskins this year and see if their OC, their offensive philosophy and play calling meets what they are being told during recruiting visits. Go Bucks
Birm said on Twitter that while Mauer is “pro-style” he was timed at a 4.51 40 recently at Florida’s camp. Good athleticism.
You win with people.
And so forth...
9 Units Strong!
He broke his foot in their spring game in mid-May and ran that just two or three weeks later.
Compliments to u and the staff...
U have "X number" of subscribers ...just waiting for info on two major happenings...and no one can possibly give u the information. ( Must be incredibly frustrating).
These are the days when Im glad I'm not in your industry.
With that said, I click on Elevenwarriors first..for updates.
My family has just left for a lame get together (women..!!) and now I'm enjoying the original "Terminator"...which is a Classic..on IFC
The Buckeyes will be better...after the challenges they came through these last couple of days.
He looks skinny but he puts up numbers.
This kid just needs a year or two to grow into an already athletic body.
I'm liking this kid more and more the more I watch his tape.
Now get in the weight room and do some squats and hamstring work!
Coach Mick will tell you the same.
Mathis looks like a dt-qb not a pro-style. Be good to get either of these guys.
Yeah, he's definitely a dual-threat
I live in Ocala. I'll watch this kid this fall just to see.
