Dre’Mont Jones 4th team. SMH.

Confused as he’s 4th team LB but has DL listed.

They also have a ND LB listed as 4th team CB.

Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.

I guess they were running out of spaces and DL is loaded and they wanted to get him in.

5-3-3 alignment is all the rage now.

Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.

HS
Knarcisi's picture

You invented the 5-3-3 rotation?

HS
analyticalguy's picture

So much is based on prior-year performance. He rotated, and then was pulled for the Rushmen, and so didn't get the opportunities. I'm quite content to have him on the Buckeyes rather than the guys "ahead" of him..

HS
NewPhilaFan's picture

Most surprising that no one from Zone 6 is included.  Is that because there are so many of them that they have to share the touches? /s

Tagovailoa second team QB?

I guess Athlon likes giving credit to the presumed starters.

HS
milhouse4588's picture

It's plain favoritism. You can't put a player that played one half of last season on a "Best Players of 2018" list. He has not proven himself yet.

To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

HS
Knarcisi's picture

I give him credit for the comeback win, but he stared down his primary receiver all night. Georgia just let them run wide open.

HS
milhouse4588's picture

Oh for sure. He earned the win and played well for the position he was put in. But he was also playing against a tired defense who had practiced defending a completely different game plan. Making a completely defensive overhaul for an adjustment mid-second half was too much to ask.

To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

HS
Hovenaut's picture

I'd honestly put McSorley ahead of him right now.

I'd argue we have to put a lot of people ahead of Tua based off of the body of work being so limited.

GO BUCKS!

HS
BUCKEYE3M's picture

He played two fucking quarters - all season.

HS
iowabuckeyes's picture

Obviously, that’s an exaggeration. He was 49/77 in eight games, threw for 11 touchdowns (that’s one TD per 4.5 completions), and ran for two more.

HS
avail31678's picture

So, McSorely had nearly the exact completion percentage, 26 TDs, and all against actual competition, and not in garbage time against the teams I mention in my comment below.  And ahead of time I'll say, please don't compare Vandy or Arkansas to B1G schedule teams.  I'll concede Ole Miss is decent, but Tennesse, Vandy, and Arkansas had TWO conference wins between them.

So again, why is Tua Tousldognia second team after playing 2 meaningful quarters and McSorley is 4th team?  It's a very legitimate question to ask.

HS
IBLEEDSCARLETANDGRAY's picture

Jones is a future first round draft pick and is 4th team? Was this compiled by the B1G?

Season will be on Haskins/Martell combo's shoulder/legs. That combination should be able to out number/perform JT right?

Think Taylor is a product of the system more than a dynamic top RB.

Wouldn't trade Dobbins for any other RB in the country and that includes Bryce Love.

HS
JohnnyKozmo's picture

I agree about Taylor.  I know he was just a freshman last year, but so was Dobbins.  Didnt see anything special out of Taylor. Just another Wisky RB who gets 300 carries behind a behemoth OL.

Just another Wisky RB who shows out against the B1G West and Green Bay Community College, then gets held to season lows in yardage and attempts against the Bucks in December

Best D-line in the country IMO. We're #2...but they have 4 first rounders, including what could be 2 top 10's. I'd hate to play them...hopefully they lose to Pitt or somebody again.

Doesn't look like much of a QB draft class based on this list.

Wisconsin with seven.

Cracks me up that BC’s AJ Dillon was once committed to Michigan.

There are somehow people who will tell you with a straight face that either Nebraska or Northwestern are the west favorites. Wisconsin is as talented as they've ever been and are very well coached. They also are in the process of brining in their highest ever rated recruiting class. I think they'll be the second best team in the conference next year.

For 20+ years I have truly enjoyed buying these mags, reading them, saving them, and then going back between the conf champ games and Bowl Games and giggling like a small child. Every one of them stakes a claim to being the "most accurate" over the past X number of seasons. Yes, they get my money, which is the point for them, but I get a kick out of it. Worth the $8 - $10 laughs, for me - better than a movie.

No ND player on the National cover this year for Athlon. Wait, what? No USC either?! Shocking. That had to be tough as hell on the editors.

As much as I love the talent we have and wouldn't trade them away, that first team DL group (Bosa, Oliver, Ferrell, Wilkins) would be impossible to stop. Would love to see it in a "All-Star" game type thing at the end of the season as all 4 of them are heading to the draft. I don't think you could draft a NCAA O-Line that could block them.

HS
Mastro16's picture

would switch dexter lawrence for wilkins, but scary good d-line right there

HS
RedSeven's picture

Grier is overrated.

I'd go something like 1. Khalil Tate  2. McKenzie Milton  3. Jake Fromm  4. McSorley

HS
RedSeven's picture

I would not trade Haskins for Grier

HS
avail31678's picture

Nor for McSorely.

And how did Tua Tuslkdfiodfha (sic) get second team after playing one half of one game (although it was a great half)?

HS
iowabuckeyes's picture

Why do people make ill informed posts when a quick search of the interwebz would show he played in eight games, was 49/77, threw for 11 TDs and ran for two more? Saban knew what he had.

HS

A quick search shows those stats were in garbage time against the likes of Mercer, Fresno State, CSU (who's that?), Tennessee, Vandy, Ole Miss, and Arkansas.  Awful teams.

HS
avail31678's picture

Think TTUN fans would be up in arms that Rashan Gary is 2nd team and Bosa is 1st team?

Also, no fair that Clemson has 2 first team D-lineman.  As well as we've recruited DL, they have had some phenomenal D-lineman over the past few.

HS
MiamiBuckeye's picture

That none of them declared for the draft is just plain silly. They must really love playing for Clemson to defer millions of dollars and risk an injury that drops them from the first round

And no shout outs for Zone6? Damn rotation is costing our guys serious recognition!

"Tina, you fat lard, come get some DINNER!... Tina, eat. Food. Eat the FOOD!"

HS
avail31678's picture

To be fair, although we know our guys are veterans and have talent, none of our receivers reallystood out from a statistical standpoint last year.  Kind of to your point, the ball seemed spread out over so many guys.  We have like 4 receivers have 400-500 yards receiving.  They were all medium-threats, and no one emerged as a top threat.

HS
SilvioDante's picture

See, I think that nobody emerged as a top threat because they're all elite. People on 11w like to crap on Zone6 because they feel like none of them separated themselves therefore they must be mediocre.

When you look at their combined positional stats, you will find that they are elite, and have been held back by JT Barrett.

With Haskins fully unlocking their potential, we're about to see the most explosive numbers college fb has seen.

"Tina, you fat lard, come get some DINNER!... Tina, eat. Food. Eat the FOOD!"

HS
avail31678's picture

I hope you're right.  Haskins hitting guys in stride is a 20+ yd gain, whereas JT throwing behind him is a 5 yd gain or a drop.  I love JT, but if Haskins' arm is what everyone hopes it is, we could be in for a treat.

HS
CincyOSU's picture

When you look at their combined positional stats, you will find that they are elite, and have been held back by JT Barrett.

I bet we have very similar passing/receiving stats as we had last year. Haskins probably will throw for more than Barrett(he had just under 3000) but I wouldn't expect to see him throw up 4000. Barrett had his faults throwing the ball, especially the deep ball, but it's not like Zone6 didn't have their share of drops.

With Haskins fully unlocking their potential, we're about to see the most explosive numbers college fb has seen.

That's expecting A LOT out of a first year starter. I hope you're right, I'm just going to temper my expectations a bit.

HS
SilvioDante's picture

Some of the brightest college football minds think that Haskins is the best passing QB in the game today with Joe Burrow a close second. Now that JT isn't holding the WRs back, they're simply going to ooze their elite ability.

Whomever plays C for us (Taylor) should automatically be put on the list given our recent history.

Doubt Zone6 is worried. Athlon whiffed on Michael Thomas in 2015. Zero mention as All-american... Second team All Big (lol). Crushing records in the NFL.

Athlon pays nothing. At least 3 2018 Buckeye WRs will be collecting their six- figure (or more) paydays next year.

Zone6, with rotating WR's, will have 1000+ yards at all 3 WR positions this season
