I'm with you. I guess I've lived in the SEC too long, I do root for the conference to do well. Whether it be bowls, early season out of conference, NCAA tournament etc. I'm not wearing their gear but if they or another big ten member can beat an OOC team such as Notre Dame or an aforementioned SEC club, go for it.
When I was 6 I was thinking about this rivalry. This one is seared on your soul, It's ingrained through every part of your body. -Urban Meyer
Maybe it's because I live in SEC country too (after growing up in Columbus)...I LOVE when a Big Ten team can bring down an SEC foe. Always.
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
Dude, remember last bowl season?...when the B1G went undefeated until the scUM game?...and pretty much every Buckeye fan was like screw the undefeated record, the B1G won enough, and it'll be awesome if scUM is the only team to lose? Yeah i dont think there will ever be a reason to root for them...it anything we might have to root for the team they're playing to lose (if trip to B1G title game is on the line) and theres a difference with that situation.
Love the game over any team fandom.
Only if their fan base ever finally admits that their team has not been relevant for the past 20 years and won't be anytime in the future and they are playing a second tier SEC team. Could care less if they get their butts kicked by Bama, Georgia, LSU, or Florida but by comparison because of the morons in the media if they lose to a second tier SEC team then the national media view and narrative is that the whole B1G sucks.
And until the Buckeyes start to get the upper hand on Clemson the very last thing I want is for ttun to win against a team like that before we do.
maybe against Dabo.
he is the enemy.

As this guy here BeatTTUN has stated before
"I want TTUN to lose every game in every sport until the sun burns out."
Go Buckeyes Beat Michigan
I take it a step further I want every sports team in every sport from the state of Michigan to lose every game. Tigers...lions....all of them
But what about afterwards? Do you care if they win a game or two once everything has gone dark?

This is only a question since the chest thumping of a certain conference from the losing side of the Mason-Dixon area of the country got loud. Such is today's society in college football. Never put conference over the interest of your team, I don't care what three letter chants are happening. I will never root for, hope for, care for a win for that school up north no matter who they play or when they play. In fact, the ONLY time I root for a team from the losing side of the Mason-Dixon is when they play that school. So no. No. No, no, no, no, no. No. NO.
Old HS friends son is the starting PG for TTUN, Xavier Simpson, so I like seeing him do well. Will not root for them though... ever.

No, no....hell no! I hope I wasn't being unclear.
I will say I used to hate USC enough that I would be neutral on them vs. Michigan, but they've finally got a likable coach so that is no longer the case
I would not cry if Michigan beat James Franklin this year. Part of that is that Penn State has been better than U-M recently, though.
If scUM plays someone like FSU, Clemson, or Penn State I really don't care who wins-more like hoping for a stadium implosion-but I won't exactly root against them in that scenario. Other than that, I root like crazy for any other team against them, especially in the B10.
I agree with this line of reasoning. I don't think I've ever rooted for Michigan. But there are games in which I haven't rooted against Michigan. I admit that's a fine line.
The (formerly annual) Michigan-Notre Dame game is a good example. I root for a new rule stating that both teams can lose and/or the aforementioned stadium implosion. Lloyd Carr's last game against UF is another one.
For awhile, I almost bought the whole "conference strength" thing -- i.e., we want Michigan to be good so that our record looks better. Now I think that doesn't matter at all unless you're 'Bama.
When Michigan plays ND, I am 'Go Irish'.
Then I take a shower.
You need to wash your mouth out with soap!
My brother-in-law is a huge Notre Dame fan, so while I don't root for Michigan I would love to rub it in his face that they lost to them.
Definitely in the minority when I say I do root for them at times. Actually I wouldn't say root. It's more that I don't always root against them. I still laugh when they lose no matter what. But I always say, if Michigan winning helps OSU, then why the hell wouldn't I root for them. Simply put, I love OSU more than I hate Michigan.
It was funny as hell when UM's punter blew the 2015 game against MSU. In hindsight, if he doesn't, OSU is in the Big Ten Championship game. In 2016, if Michigan sucked, we probably wouldn't have had the SOS to make the playoff without the Big Ten title. So it's an iffy situation. I am of the belief that UM being good is better for OSU.
Elliott dots the eye, on this national championship win.
Only if it benefits tOSU - regardless of sport.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Thanks Pro8 - I also root for a low scoring game when they play PSU. a 2-0 loss in triple OT would do wonders.
Root for Michigan?
Enjoying daily the 62-39 ttun beatdown.
I did, like hell fire, in the 2008 Capital One Bowl vs Urban and Florida.
Sometimes I don't root against them.

Hell nah, I would rather have a sister in a whore house then root for that cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, ass-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit team.

That’s a big fat negative. Never in my life will I want anything good to happen to that university ever.. screw conference pride. I’m still pissed off about the hotdog I bought last year at the game it was the worst hot dog I’ve ever ate in my entire life
Not in this fucking lifetime. In a 4 team tourney of the KKK, ISIS, the Nazi Party, and scUM, I still wouldn't cheer for the Skunk Weasels.
The answer may not be at the bottom of a bottle, but it never hurts to check.
Soooooo, who would you cheer for then?
I wouldn't root for them, I just couldn't. Some things I just could never do, like punch a girl in the face. It has been embedded in me since birth... someone said that some of those other guys aren't all bad. With those options... wow!
In that case, it feels like cheering for ISIS would be a blast.
Most of the time. It's in our best interest to beat a 9-3 or 10-2 Michigan team every year. Sure, the B10 can be won and national titles can be won while they're down (we've proven that many times) but it's still better when they're a factor.
Does that answer your question?
23 Saturdays till kickoff
Last years bowl season was a win-win. They win and the Big Ten goes undefeated, they lose, even better.
Agreed, with the sole exception of OSU not going to the CFP, last year's bowl season was damn near perfect.
So, again, I ask: would you/do you ever have a rooting interesting in Michigan?
No. My earnest desire is to see TSUN fail.
Now. Always. And Forevermore. Amen.

When Michigan loses,
We need the Let's Go Bucks Girl to smack the bitch off this chic's face.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
Only time I cheered for them was to shut up ESPN's SEC Speed shit and to stop Tebow in 07 which they did and Morgan Trent chasing down Percy Harvin from behind was everything.
If you continue to think what you always thought, you will continue to get what you always got. #AlumforStaff
Last year's bowl results were perfect.
Alabama going to and winning the CFP erased the perfection that is the 2017-18 bowl season.
Now that I think of it, the 2017 part was perfect; however, the 2018 part ruined it, in a way
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
NEVER! SCREW TTUN! I hope tbey lose every game in every sport.
Is this a smoke screen to draw attention away from legal matters?

It’s a whole new dog and pony show.
My hatred for ND is strong enough that I find no rooting interest in the Michigan-ND game, but certainly wouldn't pull for Michigan.
While I disdain USC, Alabama, and "Team SEC", under no circumstances (this year was a great example as the Big Ten was undefeated with only Michigan's bowl remaining) would I root for Michigan.
*The ONLY rare exception: when a Michigan win would directly benefit Ohio State. For example, let's say Ohio State's lone loss was to PSU and PSU was undefeated with games against Michigan and MSU remaining. In this case, I would be rooting for PSU to drop those last two and for OSU to run the table to claim the division title. Such a scenario played out in 2012-13 Big Ten basketball where the Buckeyes could have used a Michigan win over IU to claim a share of a Big Ten regular season title - in that case I (grudgingly) desired for the Wolves to beat the Hoosiers (Mich missed a potential game-winning layup).
Worth mentioning the old "would you rather have Michigan lose every game, or Ohio State and Michigan meet undefeated?" question... My take is that I love to see Michigan suffer. IMHO, a crushing loss hurts worse than a 5 or 6 loss season. For example, our 1995, 1996, and 1998 L's to Mich, Mich, and MSU, respectively, STILL hurt a ton - however, I've generally forgotten most games of our 2011 campaign and in retrospect am pretty apathetic of the 4 L's suffered in 2004. Thus, I love years like 2006 and 2016 where Ohio State can deal TTUN a crushing defeat as compared to years like 2008-2010 where Michigan just plain stinks. I won't actively root for TTUN to run the table to setup a key OSU-Mich game, but if fate delivers that scenario, I'll thoroughly relish the opportunity to ruin their season.
That's interesting to me. Would you rather this upcoming season mirror the 2015 season, or the 2011 season?
Nope, rather that their fans have had the life sucked out of them long before they play the Buckeyes so they are already reconciled to getting their asses hand to them and yet they still show up to suffer for the whole game. Why should they be allowed 50 plus minutes of enjoyment before it slips through their slimy fingers? From the second they consider attending the game to when the final whistle blows I want them to know with certainty that their lives suck and they have no hope of victory and that they already had seen that their team sucks by losing other games.

Never. The Herbstreit school of thought is foreign to me... but much of what that guy says and does is ridiculous from my perspective.

The only time I've actively rooted for TTUN was when they played Florida in the Cirtus Bowl the year after Florida beat us in the BCS Championship game.
They're all chickens. The rooster has sex with all of them.
I will root for Michigan ONLY if a win by them helps the Buckeyes. But, that is basically how I feel about most Big Ten teams. Anybody that helps the Buckeyes is who I root for . GO BUCKS!
GTFO with this.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
NEVER, EVER. With one qualification - if a M win benefits the Buckeyes, as others have said. Even living down here in SEC country, whose teams, but more so whose fans, I hate with a burning passion, I would root for Bama or Florida or Tennessee or any SEC team over Michigan.
The problem with my qualification (as far as football is concerned) is, with The Game being the last game of each regular season, it is possible only in retrospect to ever cheer for Michigan. For example, when their punter fumbled that punt against MSU in 2015, I laughed, I cheered, I jumped up and down, and I laughed some more. In retrospect, had that damn punter just fell on the f'in ball, we win the East tie breaker over MSU in 2015.

Never, ever root for TTUN, even against SEC teams, Clemson, USC (well, that last one is a tough one). The only times I find myself not cheering against them is when it will help Ohio State, as in two years ago when they were #1 but then lost to Iowa at home. See how that goes!
Dude. This is like the second week in a row asking about cheering for michigan. If you want to read about people cheering for michigan then go to mgoblow.
No. NO. HELL NO. FUCK NO. When they played against florida in the bowl and regular season, I rooted against both.
I bleed scarlet...literally
They say that there's no such thing as a dumb question. I disagree. That's a dumb damn question!
I do love to see TTUN lose, but maybe its because I grew up with friends who were fanatical ND fans, then ND got its own TV deal etc. While driving to Florida (in the mid 90s) a radio station asked what team you would want eliminated from existence. That question I answered Michigan. But talked through it and said ND, I don't want them out of existence, I want them on national TV, every weekend, losing. So in that case, I would root for Michigan, only against ND and only on National TV.
A completely honest answer here. I don't care either way. If they lose, then it's funny. If they win, then I can't wait to knock them off their horse. I'm starting to gravitate more towards the latter, as we need all the marquee wins we can get.
Also this, I'm 22 years old. "The Game" has been a one-sided joke for most of my life. I freaking loved the 2016 game. The rush of OSU and UM, both at their peaks, is unparalled. Now, if UM beats us once then I will probably feel differently, as I do not know the feeling of losing to UM.
You're old enough to remember 2011.
Yeah but that season had already been chalked up as a loss. True is still hurt, but it wasn't like they kept us from a Big Ten Title or Championship. And I believe the Urban news broke very quickly after the game which took any sting off.
No. Just no.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
0-12 every year.
Well said stranger.
I honestly wish they lost every game.
but I do hope they win whenever they play certain teams, mostly in bowl games (SEC always, other big teams that stand or have stood in Ohio State's way in the past).
I don’t care who it benefits, I’d rather see Big Blue lose. Every L they take puts someone else closer to the all time win record. Some fan base who won’t lord it over every other team in college football, as if people care who you beat in 1905.

When I find myself in a situation that a win by That Team may actually help the Buckeyes or the conference, I do the honorable thing and turn off the TV.
"Luck is my middle name. Mind you, my first name is Bad."
Shut this thread down for the love of god. There is only one acceptable answer to this question.
The only time I could see myself actively rooting for UM is if by some weird quirk in records, that if they beat opponent X, it would help our cause to win the B1G or a national title.
Not sure that could even happen in football but here is the best example I could have
similar to a couple years ago, if OSU was tied with MSU at 1 loss in the B1G East and UM played MSU the week before playing us and MSU was going to play say Rutgers the next week, ie an easy win, then I "may" mildly root for UM to win over MSU that week.
Same kind of scenario in hoops, last game we win and UM beats someone so that we can win the Title, then maybe
NO rooting for them.

Did I miss the Tracy Morgan "no" gif?
I root for them to lose.
This is ridiculous to even ask. But, for the record, if Fichigan was playing Satan's Warriors for our souls, I'd go out and buy a Satan's Warrior's hat and shirt for the game...period.
I’m hoping for a winless season for scum in football, bocce ball, tiddlywinks, curling and so on and so on..

This question was answered during the bowl season when the Big Ten was 7-0 and it was TTUN/Scar in the Outback Bowl. Hell nah.
It's simple: don't ever root for Michigan. End of story.
However, there is a little bit of semantics and hairsplitting where I'd agree you can be ambivalent.
I would argue that numbers 2 & 3 don't mean you are "ROOTING" for Michigan. They just indicate enlightened self-interest.
So when are you switching to Scarlet and Gray fan?
That's all well and good but, no thanks.
Re: #2, I concede that under very specific circumstances, I might begrudgingly hope Michigan wins a game that we need them to win in order for us to get into the playoff or conference title game.
As for #3, on the other hand, no fucking way. I absolutely loathe Penn St, Alabama, and Clemson, but I would never root for Michigan against them. The whole point of the OSU-UM rivalry is that you hate the other team more than any other program in college football. Which means you always want them to lose, no matter who they're playing.
I have a friend who has the following two favorite teams:
His hatred burns strong. My hatred for TOSU is not as strong. I will rarely root for you guys, but the reality for me is threefold.
F*UCK Michigan. I hope they lose every game by 100
I've never understood fans who want Michigan to lose every game because of what that would do to the rivalry. I personally want Michigan to be the best it can be every year because it makes beating them at the end of the season that much sweeter. I root for Michigan, and all Big Ten teams, when they play out of conference--a strong Big Ten is good for the conference and good for Ohio State.
"In America, anyone can become president. That's the problem." George Carlin
I rooted for Michigan once. In 2007 against Florida. Never again.
Never have and never well.
Nothing ever can, nothing ever will make me root for TTUN
I'm never going to root for them to win. Maybe if they do win certain out-of-conference games against certain teams or certain conferences, I can appreciate how that could benefit the Big Ten and, more importantly, OSU.
I don't think it's critical that TTUN be good. But if they are, it does make it more satisfying to beat them. It does help out with playoff resumes and such. That was one of the big wins that got OSU in over PSU in 2016.
That said, there are 12 other teams in the B1G that I'd be perfectly happy with representing the B1G and can do so just as well while TTUN can be a dumpster fire. Well, some of them can, anyway...not exactly counting on Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, etc...thinking more along the lines of MSU, Wisconsin, PSU, Nebraska if Frost brings them back. That was proven last bowl season, when the B1G was perfect in bowl season until guess who provided the one and only loss.
Class of 2010.
I did twice. 2008 against Florida and in 2010 vs Wisconsin so we could win the outright B1G. Even went up to that s-hole to watch it. In the end it didn't matter since our 2010 wins were taken away.
I NEVER root for TTUN to win in any game, in any sport. There have been times when I have rooted for a team to lose to TTUN if it benefits OSU (ex 2013 Indiana vs TTUN bball. we needed IU to lose to TTUN so we could win the Big Ten) but I would be happy if TTUN went 0 for in every sport. We don't need TTUN to be good for OSU to succeed (see 2014 when they were 5-7 and we won the natty). Every time they lose, it brings a smile to my face!
I rooted for them to not be shit when it was relevant to propping our wins up for a potential BCS berth. Since the playoff system was introduced, I couldn't give a shit less. After dealing with a colossal twat of a human being with on of my businesses being what I imagine is the ICONIC definition of a michigan man, fuck that school and everyone involved with it. I will be pulling for them to lose every single game for the rest of my life. I have a whole new reason to hate this year.
I don't want TTUN to win against teams we've lost to, because then they would gloat about beating teams we lost to
If Michigan faced the devil in the fiery pits of hell in any sport....I would cheer for the devil.
No such thing as a bad win
Here is the real answer to this question. Why would you ever root for Michigan in football because they'll probably just lose and then you'll be disappointed and feel disgusting for rooting for them. I say just always root against them and when it comes to big, important games you'll pretty much always be happy with the result.
