This is an impressive list. Hoping for some BOOMS. GO BUCKS.

Harrison is obviously the big prize, but would love if we got some surprise commitments.

HS

Impressive.

Gonna be hot time in the old town that night.

I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...

HS
sharks's picture

So they aren't allowed to restrict who shows up, so they just let a few kids know when the camp will take place?

That's...kind of shitty

A man got to have a code...

HS
BrutusB's picture

It's a business.  None of the kids are entitled to time with the coaching staff.  If a kid is B-listed and wants to come anyway, he's not guaranteed to get evaluated by Meyer.  At least this way the kids all know where they stand.

HS
sharks's picture

Oh, I get that, and I'd imagine Billy Two-Star knows he's not getting face time with Urban Meyer. What about kids who'd go for the experience? A chance to be on the turf at Ohio Stadium? I know there are other events that allow for that, but it just is kind of a not great way to keep kids away.

HS

Then they go to those other camps and events. That's why those other camps and events are held.

HS
BurningRiverBuckeye's picture

I'd like to be invited but I'm not good enough. It happens. Not every event has to be open to every one.

HS
Etenim's picture

That's...kind of shitty

First, not my DV.

Second, not shitty at all in signalling to kids and their parents/coaches the nature of this camp event, and to not waste time and money attending. The publicity for the other camps in comparison to this one made it clear for the more marginal recruits that their time and money was better spent with those other OSU camps where they'd receive the things they're expecting for their investment.

HS
sharks's picture

I agree with you completely, except my read is that isn't what's happening. They made the date and time secret except to a select few. Your way is the mature way to do it, I think.

A man got to have a code...

HS
Tidus Powell's picture

I don't think this deserves the DVs it's getting. Don't agree with you, but it's fair to say.

I'm not without empathy for kids who are basically realizing that Ohio State isn't interested in them - for those Ohio kids who are almost good enough to have a shot at OSU, learning that their dream is dead has got to be at least a little sad. So I definitely empathize.

But every football player from this state, in peewee, middle school, or high school, realizes that eventually. And as Andrew pointed out: this IS a recruiting event. Whether this or the lack of an invite, they will realize they won't go to Ohio State.

Sad, sure, particularly if they're really good football players. Shitty? I'm not sure.

HS
sharks's picture

I don't worry about downvotes, although losing an imaginary e-helmet sticker keeps me up sometimes.

I guess it isn't shitty to have an event geared only at a small subset of players; it's shitty to obfuscate the day/time to everyone that you don't want there. I get that it can't be invitation only, but there has to be a better way to set it up. This isn't a one-to-one comparison because of the invitation aspect, but if I was having a party and you knew about it (and ostensibly wanted to go because Sharks throws bangers) wouldn't you rather I clarify in a polite way who my intended guest list consists of rather than sneak around and whisper in a few guys' ears where and when? It just seems a little dishonest this way.

A man got to have a code...

HS
CTownBucknut's picture

Sharks, I respect your point of view, but personally, I think you are looking at it the opposite way.  You are reading this to mean they hid the date from those they don't want.  I read it as though they only shared the date in advance with those they truly covet, to ensure they had enough notice to clear their schedule.  For those that aren't serious options for OSU, but want the experience, they still have time to make arrangements to attend, they simply weren't afforded the advanced notice that their prime targets were.  Personally, I think it's a silly rule to begin with, as I see no reason why teams aren't allowed to hold exclusive events.  Rules are rules though, so I believe OSU simply found a way to follow the rules, yet still achieve their desired outcome.

HS

It's public information as to when the camp will take place. The kids that really want to visit will pay attention and show up.

Dear Mr. Harrison... It's time... come on home.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

Jared Harrison-Hunte's pinned highlight tape, while short, is intriguing. He's 6-4/275 and every play has him lined up at TE. Here's an interview of him following the Rutgers camp in which he got some 1:1 time with Larry Johnson.

Let's party, Columbus.

HS

To me, so-so.  Could have been great with a Cain/Wright/Dobbs.   All WRs and D guys....very light on offense.

Impressive list no doubt - I'd love to be there in observance. One of my regrets on leaving for the PNW.

Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!

Who is most likely to commit?  Maybe Battle or one of the WRs?

HS
RedSeven's picture

Anyone know if there's any chance Jack Miller commits? I'm guessing not? Looks like he visits Bama the day after.

HS

The 2019 visitor list has 14 names. Seven are 3* and 1 is NR.

HS
Andrew Lind's picture

There's no doubt this weekend is all about the official visitors.

HS
ELJTSA76's picture

So does that mean that it’s no longer intended to be the big star-studded weekend it once was - that they really are only interested in hosting a handful of approved players for FNL? Is this a change in philosophy, necessitated by the new calendar?  And will there will be something like the event that was once FNL?

I’m just curious. It seemed like a really cool event for a lot of kids in the past, kinda like a Hollywood event for recruits, and generated a lot of buzz. I’d never go to something like that, but if I was a recruit it would be a lot of fun I think.

HS
Bucks19's picture

Mostly about but not all about those on officials.

There are a bunch of ‘20’s and others who will get a LOT of attention.

HS
gobucks1966's picture

How many have offers in that 7?

Denny

HS
CTownBucknut's picture

Based on the list in the article, 4 of the 2019 3 star visitors have offers.

HS
gobucks1966's picture

I guess in the 2020 class anyone with a offer would be a take. The cats from NY probably coming by  bus and reminds me of the Glenville tours of a few years ago. The NR guys will bust their behinds and may think they can play at this level and are hoping the staff sees a diamond in the rough. The Reading Pa. recruit to Pittsburgh is a odd situation?

Believe I read on here last week that they are very good friends.

HS
gobucks1966's picture

I'm a big believer in silent commitments and think it happens more than we know. Years ago Bill K and I got in a debate about that either way just maybe one or two of the receivers are in the barn now. Sometime they like to do their thing on B DAYS etc. Bottom line there could be a couple hand shakes and maybe a commit or two this week end. Not in the know of what they want rb might be finished for 19?

I can only hope that Harrison's inclusion of Clemson in his top 4 is a troll job. My wish is that he commits to the good guys this weekend!

If the weather's crappy as may be the case, do they move it indoors, or is standing in the rain part of the experience?

HS
65 Toss Power Trap's picture

Heres a fun idea, let the first 1500 fans that come sit in the loges with free hot dogs and free beers. As a thank you.

On a separate thought, have they ever considered televising it?

I was actually curious about the kids at the event, but yeah fans too I guess.

HS
iowabuckeyes's picture

I thought about that, too, but then I thought that would give opposing coaches a peak. Also, it may be a problem since it’s a school-sponsored event but they’re not Ohio State students.
