Skull Session: That Time Ohio State Fans Tore Down Indiana's Goalpost, Nick Bosa Q&A, and Carlos Hyde Shocks Tyrod Taylor

DJ!  Sometimes it isn't cute.  Maybe you are trying too hard.  You have appeared to be better than this.  If you are just trolling for comments, you got one.

Never ever disparage love of family.  If any parent does in fact hate their family, it is their failure, not the family's.  Families may have difficult times, that's life.  But parents will always love their kids.  If not, they most likely need real serious help.  No one likes to give people a harder time than I do.  But ridiculing children should be off the table.  Building them up, telling them they are good, smart etc. and they can do anything they are willing to work for is a recipe for successful parenting.  Nothing in life brings more pleasure than watching your children succeed, not even your own successes!

Meh. As Jimmy Fallon said in his opening monologue last night, “if you’ve forgotten that Sunday is Father’s Day, don’t worry, your dad did, too.” The older I get, the more I realize every day is Dad’s Day. RIP to all the great dads who are no longer with us and a nod of the cap to those who still are.

It's only fitting that Bosa described the Wisconsin Tackle as "solid". I'm pretty sure if I looked up "solid" in the dictionary, it would say "Wisconsin Football".

The LSU fans mob got the coach they deserve. Firing Miles was stupid, and everyone outside of Baton Rouge knew it. They didn't have a coach in waiting, and there weren't a whole lot of coaches out there better than Coach Miles to pick from.  It was their lack of patience that got Orgeron into the big boy's chair to begin with, so he's completely deluded if he thinks they're going to have patience with him.

While I don’t disagree with this, Miles was stubborn offensively and it was painful to watch LSU foot all.  It is one thing not to win at the level you want and another to have to watch terrible football, at least on one side of the ball.  Game had passed Miles by.  I

guys like Jones go under-the-radar due to the Bosa hype.

Definition of hype

1: deception, put-on
2: publicity; especially: promotional publicity of an extravagant or contrived kind

No deception or contrivance with Bosa. What you see is what you get.

Speaking of soldiers and farmers and oblettes and such. The Hopi Awatovi massacre comes to mind. There are Spanish versions of what happened, and Hopi versions. In a Hopi version, the Spanish soldiers and Catholic missionaries built the Awatovi Pueblo in the late 1600's. The nearby Hopis hated the incursion into their territories. The monks converted many Hopis, and gave them housing in Awatovi, a few miles from the Hopi mesas.

When the Spanish started holding large regular festivities (for young married and unmarried women ONLY), things turned ugly.

These festivities (orgies?) were held in Kiva's. Large circular meeting rooms which could only be entered by ladder from a hatch in the center of the roof. The Kiva's were often 30+ feet wide, with 15 to 20 foot ceilings.

As the story goes, the monks and soldiers gathered in the Kivas, but the Hopi men held the Hopi women back. Then the Hopi men swarmed the roofs of the Kivas, pulled up the ladders, and then threw a couple hundred bundles of dried corn stalks down into the waiting party goer's, and lit the oblettes and all in them on fire.

The remaining Spanish abandoned Awatovi, fled the Hopi lands and never reestablished any settlements in the Hopi mesas.

HS
Gratefulbuck's picture

My guess is these were gang rapings and they got what they deserved. Either that, or the Hopi men were just jealous.

HS
Buckeye Jack's picture

Most likely the former. The Spanish were brutal. In the Acoma Massacre 1599 (a pueblo 200 miles east of Hopi), about 800 natives we're killed. 500 prisoners we're taken.

The Spanish general Don Ornate, in response to prisoner insubordination, ordered that all Acoma men have their right foot cut off. He stopped after 24 amputations, but held the order over the heads of the Acoma men to insure obedience.

it can't be overstated how much Ohio State will miss him not only as a teacher, but also as a recruiter.

So the Spurs boys with the Three Lions are drinking "ma-teh" and playing Uno in their down time. I am honestly not sure what to make of that, other than I hope they show up and make it out of the group stage at a minimum. They should, but no guarantees.

Les Miles is correct. LSU should not need to wait for anything. Orgeron is over his head, and the Tigers will suffer for it. Unfortunate for Joe Burreaux, but it is what it is.

Nick Bosa is a competitor, which is one of many traits to like about him and his brother. He will be just fine, even if he didn't start every game. Reading the constant praise for Coach Johnson makes me really wonder what PSU was thinking when they let him walk. Glad they did of course.

I'm still puzzled by this as well. Why didn't  PSU just give him a raise to stay? Why was LJSR willing to leave PSU? He had been there for years. In any case, we scored big-time with that hire.

Les Miles needs to.chill. In his first 4 seasons as a head coach (Ok St) he was 28-21. 4-7 in his first season. And in half his seasons at LSU, he lost 3 games or more.

LSU was 9-4 last year. With Burrow at QB, a 2-loss or even 1-loss season in not unreasonable.

It’s intresting that LSU was the ticket out of the “little brother” schools for both Saban at MSU, and old Les at OSU.

Les Miles wasn't that great of a coach, but I agree with him overall about attitude and effort.

"Just wait until he gets his players" or "Just wait until he installs his system" are warning signs that you have the wrong coach. It's what TTUN fans have been saying for 3 years about Harbaugh. Shoot, pay me $9 million and I'll win 8 games with TTUN's roster. I could use the money.

Great coaches get results quickly. Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer didn't need excuses. They both walked into problematic situations, they both turned things around within 1 or 2 years.

Ok, I know we Browns fans have had any shred of hope mutilated every year since the turn of the century but I genuinely have good feelings that this team is turning the corner. My ambition is relatively low - 4 wins and be competitive in other games, but the pieces seem to be there to at least not be the worst in the NFL. Of course I would feel even better if Clueless Hue were not the head coach.

It's sad how much sympathy I get from Eagle fans when I am wearing my Browns jersey at a bar. You know it's bad when even they don't make fun of you.

I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!

my pre-season confidence is full bore - 6 wins.

Last summer I took a tour of Lambeau Field while wearing a Browns shirt.  The guide, a man about my age, smiled and shook his head.  Later on he remarked that it was sad to see the franchise that far down and how he hoped they could come back

It's no Ceylon but it's not bad. Kind of like an earthier green tea. More caffeine than black tea, so if you want to do some twirling it may be for you, but if you want to contemplate drums and space I'd avoid it.

I first learned of it in a book about Che Guevera. That wheezy asthmatic used to drink it constantly.

I will proudly confess to being one of the guys carrying the goal post in that video. Bonus information, not too long after the video ends, I let go and tried to get a high five from Orlando Pace. He was jogging to the locker room and without slowing down, he threw a forearm shiver that put me flat on my back. The stats may not show it, but I was pancaked by the Big O on Indiana’s field.

My parents were at that 1996 game at Indiana, and me being an irresponsible 23 year old threw a party that friday night at the house. Woke up the next morning to the worst hangover of my life and took a power nap and missed the entire first half and barely could function trying to watch the second half. Kind of like D.J.’s hangover back in 2010 when Ohio State lost at Purdue, except this time the outcome was favorable for Ohio State, but not for me
