I've made this point before but you hafta consider outside of a few good recievers, his team was awful. Statistically in the 100s in rushing offense, god awful defense. Now did he play well against the elite competition? No. But he's also only played in 10 games so far in his career. Its an unknown at this point how he will perform in Harbaughs offense, but the excuses from the fans should be over. They are for me, if Harbaugh cant beat ranked teams this year on the road and end up like 7-5 or 8-4 its over for him in my eyes.

HS
ZeroDimension's picture

I think he could be really successful in Harbaugh's defense... Harbaugh's defenses have been really good and showed they could reload last year... Harbaugh's specialty in having great defenses is probably his greatest coaching ability...  It is very hard for me to criticize how good he is at coaching defenses.

Are the scum boosters flying Patterson to Paris today? I’m on board with the theory that the NCAA strung this decision out to annoy Harbaugh.

It's a long season. How's Meechy's O-line? Because this guy looks kind of reedy and BiG play can get kind of rough. I say he limps into the Shoe wearing a flak jacket or two and gets pulverized by the Silver Bullets. Ask Wilton Speight how much fun it is to be Harball's pocket passer.

Adding Warriner to coach the line will help, but there are several unknowns particularly at the Tackle position. Jon Runyans son looks to be the starter at Right Tackle, Bredeson played well as a freshman last year and Cesar Ruiz was the no. 1 Center coming out. So there's talent but unproven. I think the line will be better, but good enough to keep OSU and other good defenses from getting consistent pressure? Not so sure.

HS
Spivan's picture

He's played in 10 games and thrown 12 picks.

Yeah he threw 17 touchdowns last year, but look who they came against.  13 were against South Alabama, Tennessee-Martin, and Vanderbilt.  The other ones were two each against Cal and Auburn.

Everyone can shine when playing garbage opponents.  See what he does against the best division in college football.

HS

I decided to watch some of his Mississippi highlights and was not all that impressed.  Harbaugh does run a better offensive scheme than Hugh Freeze did (better, meaning to fit Patterson's abilities) but it did seem like most of his passes were over/underthrown.  He had some good receivers at Ole Miss.

While Michigan's football team is in Paris for their new annual tradition of going overseas in a vain attempt to suck less at football, they officially gained a new quarterback as Shea Patterson was officially ruled eligible by the NCAA.

Not that it matters any, but read this SI article about the ruling.

But earlier this month, the situation changed. The NCAA Division I Council—somewhat out of the blue—issued new guidance regarding transfer waivers. No longer was something as extreme as “egregious behavior” required. Now, a waiver could be granted if the following conditions were met:

a. The transfer is due to documented mitigating circumstances that are outside the student-athlete’s control and directly impact the health, safety and well-being of the student-athlete;

b. At the time of transfer to the certifying institution, the student-athlete would have been athletically and academically eligible and in good standing on the team had he or she remained at the previous institution;

c. The certifying institution must certify that the student-athlete meets percentage-of-degree requirements; and

d. The previous institution’s athletics administration does not oppose the transfer.

So the mitigating factors that are the genesis of the transfer request must be outside the student-athlete’s control and directly impact the health, safety and well-being of the student-athlete.

Apparently being misled by the head coach of the previous school while he cheats his ass off threatens a player's health, safety and welfare. One must wonder if these NCAA guys ever watch any football. Seems to me allowing any QB to transfer to ttun is endangering the health, safety and well-being of said QB, given ttun's OL play over the last few years.

I actually like Patterson's film. I think he is a good player. However, there are other issues though. First of all, just completely different styles of offense that will be a big adjustment for him. One is a spread offense, check with me system. UM's is a pro style attack where he makes all the checks at the LOS. New teammates, new coaches. Michigan is making changes to their offense and has brought in some new coaches which creates uncertainty. Also, their OT's are not good. Their RB's cannot pass protect. And their WR's didn't produce a TD reception in conference play last year (yet they act like they have the WR corps in the country for some reason). I could see DPJ and Tarik Black taking a step forward but there is a lot of uncertainty there as well.  I think Patterson could have a good year but I think they are in trouble when they face teams with quality DE's/CB's.

Speight and O'Korn combined for 5 TDs and 8 INTs.  Add in Peters and that improves to 9 TDS and 10 INTs. There was a stretch last season where the Michigan QBs had -1 passing yards in the Red Zone in something like 12 trips.  Let that sink in for a second.  17 TDs to 9 INTs in just 7 games looks pretty damn good, comparatively speaking.  Not factoring in competition, a full season looks like 31 TDs to 16 INTs.  Of course the turnovers are higher than they should be, but swapping Patterson for Michigan's 2017 QBs makes an argument that Michigan could've won every game except at Penn State.

Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

patterson is overrated and michigan has much more problems than just their QB.. o line stinks. their rbs cant run outside zone or gap. their receivers are okay. their defense is way too aggressive and struggles to guard outside zone runs. michigan will be a good team next year but i just dont see them comparing with OSU, Clemson, Bama, Georgia.

While I agree that we would've won more games last year if we had Patterson, I wouldnt say we would've won all of them except PSU. Michigan has more problems on offense then just the QB. As some already have pointed out, the Tackle spots are huge question marks. They have talent but it is unproven. As far as the recievers, its the same thing. Michigan has 4 star guys like Nico Collins and Oliver Martin that at this point are backing up upperclassmen like Perry and Kekoa Crawford. So talent wise this is as deep a WR corp as I can remember, but they have to produce its all unproven at this point. Having a guy like Shea whos not a statue and can move around in the pocket will help keep sacks allowed down, but im also concerned that he could get hurt.
