You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Stoked Ward got his name called early. I didn't totally understand the Browns draft strategy, obviously they're happy with their pass rush since they passed on Chubb. The Mayfield pick made no sense to me, but it is what it is. Ward is going to be an immediate starter for the Browns, no question.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Chubb wasn't going to help out corners out as much as Ward would help out the Dline and playcalls. I feel they really liked Chubb, and he would have helped the defense, but our corners weren't press corners. They were zone corners and that made it nearly impossible for Greg Williams to call his defense. Picking Chubb would have still left the Browns with 2 corners that were not built for this defense. But picking Ward allows Peppers, who was playing out of position, to move closer to the line of scrimmage. It allows guys like Garret more freedom to collapse. And it brings a very welcomed Buckeye factor. Furthermore, Bosa next year, as well as Gary, Clemson's dudes, and more will be a good or better than Chubb and should be easy enough to pick.
As far as Mayfield, I think that Rosen and Darnold would have been unhappy Californians biding their time until they leave a la Carson Palmer.
The draft strategy was simple: take the two best players that can help this team. We really really needed a good shutdown corner and our pass rush isn't bad. The hole was much larger at the other position. Plus, Ward was repeatedly called as good as Lattimore and was listed as a costarter to Lattimore, last years defensive rookie of the year.
I gave you an up vote because of your positive take on last nights pics. Thank you and God I hope you're right.

Baker goes number #1 Denzal becomes his teammate at #4 Next day they have Oklahoma against The Ohio State airing on ESPNU. Man we played ok in the first half but Lincoln Riley just called such a great game. Baker was just maker play after play typical baker. Our defense kept getting loses in coverage, specially the linebackers, there’s a shock. And bad play call after bad play call, two steps forward, three steps back. There’s a shock. we lose the lead and you can just tell by Urbans body language and the play calling on the offensive side of the ball. There’s a SHOCK. Man the potential is there, it’s about time this team shows up. Hope it’s this year.
For that though this coaching staff needs to really take it to the next level as well.
Typo’s- making, lost. That there was panic (after offensive side of the ball).

Theory is good. We all need theory.
Good grief, 5 1st round DBs in as many years. We are the premier DB factory for the NFL. Love it!

FTFY - Roby in 2014, Apple in 2016, Lattimore/Conley/Hooker 2017, and now Ward 2018.
Also, this isn't just a recent thing, it's all-time too. The Athletic did a long article on each school's draft history a couple days ago. Ohio State is #1 all-time in number of defensive backs drafted (60*, well clear of second place USC) AND #1 all-time if you look at purely first-round DB's (18*, way ahead of second place Texas/Miami, both at 13).
Ohio State is also tied for the most first-rounders at LB (10) and is tied for most draft picks overall at WR (38)
*The article written before last night, so I added Ward's +1 to both numbers.
Good catch and +1. How could I forget Conley? And thanks for the additional information. That makes Ohio State as DBU even more impressive. I really hope Kendall Sheffield develops into a first-rounder next year.
He'll have a good crop of very talented WR's to work against in The Land to prepare him quickly, that'll be good for him!
The results speak for themselves, didn't stop that jackass GM in Cleveland from throwing some shade in Columbus' direction though.
This one be be good too. At least if the coaches get him in the position to do so!
