Good luck, young man, wherever you might land.
Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye.
No big surprise to me that there was attrition of at least one on the OL; I just didn't know who.
I was surprised to see him decide to go. I thought he had a really solid shot of starting this year, and if not this year, I figured next year he would. Sad to see him go, but whoever gets him will be happy.
It always seemed to me like Coach Meyer was referring to Burrell as one of those misses in that class, one of those guys that felt like an underclassmen, so didn't take things a seriously as maybe he should have, and when he never lost his black stripe it was sort of a sign to me.
I always hoped he would get on the field as a starter, but I never really heard high praise for him, so I'm not shocked. I hope he crushes it at his next stop.
Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.
i just hope it's in the ACC, or the Pac 12, and not at a rival!!
Might as well go to UK and make them better. They are loading up with Ohio players anyway.
So how many players does that leave on scholarship? Does that get them down to 87?
Looks like we are at 88. These guys at 11W are on the ball and have already updated the Scholarship Grid.
Fields of Dreams
We are at 87 now.
It tells you if you read the entire story above.
I don’t think that was there initially. When he asked the question.
You're correct 87 now. Number didn't update on the grid totals, but they are on top if it with the name for sure.
Who are the two guys you think transfer out next to get us to 85?
My guess would be Rashod Berry, Malcolm Pridgeon, Wayne Davis, or Malik Barrow.
Rashod Berry is going to be our starting TE.
You win with people.
And so forth...
9 Units Strong!
I actually heard Luke Farrell has the heads up on that job.
We will fight to the end for OH-IO!
I’ve heard Luke Farrell is looking to be our starter. And I also wouldn’t be surprised if Jeremy Ruckert will be up there as well.
I thought he would be as well, but Urban has publicly stated that Luke Farrell is going into fall camp as the starting tight end.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
I think we lose 3 or 4 more, allow CJ Saunders and maybe someone else to wind up on scholarship. I have my own predictions, most by position group rather than individuals. I consider it rather indelicate, though, to conduct my musings on names publicly.
+1. Let's not discuss transfers by name until after an announcement is made.
I’m not sure exactly why you can’t discuss it by name. I’m speculating more on who I think would leave due to playing time. I feel like those guys would benefit more by leaving because they’re all solid players in stacked position groups. Plus, I’m not sure many players stroll through the Eleven Warriors message boards. But I could be wrong.
Joe Burrow will transfer out.
"Vision without execution is just hallucination."
That will hurt big time if he does. He's only an injury away from being the starter and he may just beat out Haskins in fall camp as well.
Saban on a cart eating cold pizza
Why would our starting QB transfer out ???
Not saying I CAN'T; I just prefer not to. Of course I'll be more than happy to claim credit for having accurately predicted exactly what has transpired.
Let's not discuss transfers by name until after an announcement is made.
Funny. It’s as if our opinions are meaningful.
I believe Haskins AND Burrow transfer. Dobbins, Bosa, D. Jones and Mack are as good as gone too.
I guess it’s got more to do with the players’ families that may be looking through the website and comments and stuff. It’s understandable. I didn’t mean to rub people the wrong way with my speculation. Just thought those were guys who would benefit from a better situation for themselves.
Dont worry about rubbing people the wrong way. Speak your mind, that's what the forum is for.

"Captain, over here, I've found someth... AHHHH!!!!!!"
If by transfer you mean, transfer to the NFL, then sure. Burrow and Haskins are a little behind the eight ball on that though and need to start supplying game tape lol.
It would be unseemly for coaches to talk about which guys need to improve or else get cut. But this is just a message board for fans to shoot the shit. Some of y'all need to calm down about breaking some secret sacred rules.
I was the initial one who broke the secret sacred rules lol. I didn’t know they existed. But it’s still cool to be respectful to the players and their families. Don’t want a page like this to be the reason kids decide not to play for tOSU.
FYI, you've now been placed on double secret probation... toe that line mister!!
That would be a SECRET line with a SECRET toe.
Didn't Meyer basically do that with Torrance Gibson though (mainly in regards to his academic performance)? And lo and behold he chose to leave the program.
His transfer had nothing to do with that and they fought to keep him. It was kind of a big story at the time

it’s just football.
There’s more coming,
I have no idea who transfers but I don’t think it’s any of those guys.

Unfortunate. He has a fun personality on and off the field. This is the best for both parties I reckon. Best of luck!
In the poll era (since 1936), OSU is by far the class of the B1G:
National Titles: OSU 8, UM 3
B1G Titles: OSU 33, UM 27
Head-to-head: OSU 42, UM 36
Major Bowls (New Year's Six): OSU 20-14, UM 10-16
Your signature is the greatest thing since sliced bread!
I love it! Of course, it wasn't until this century (with Tressell and then Meyer) that the numbers skewed toward Ohio State rather than being "roughly even" during the polling era.
Much appreciated, Someys1. Hate for *ichigan runs deep in me.
Ahh, really hate to see him go. Looked like he was putting it together for a while and then I stopped hearing things about him. Was looking forward to what Majin Buu playing on the line would be like :/ Wish him well on his future. Happy trails, Buckeye.
I was lucky enough to attend the OSU football camp a few years back in high school, he was always going out of his way to help me. Nothing but respect for the guy!
Sorry to hear this. Hope he finds success wherever he goes.
Best of luck MB
So 2 more guys need to transfer? Who do you all think is next? Rashod Berry? Malcolm Pridgeon? Malik Barrow? Wayne Davis?
Anybody got any secret insider information for me? Lol
malik barrow and joe burrow
I really hope Joe doesn’t leave. I think he should start this season. I would rather keep him and Haskins because I don’t think Martell is ready for serious PT yet (other than QB designed run package plays).
The best chance for that to happen is if he wins the starting job. Haskins is less likely to transfer than Burrow at this point because he has 1 more year of eligibility remaining than Burrow. If Burrow transfers we're looking at potentially a 2 QB depth chart in the fall which scares the shit out of me.
Baldwin should be healthy in the fall.
I hope you're right. At the rate in which QBs get hurt playing in Urban's QB run heavy offense Baldwin could be starting by season's end.
I like what I’ve seen from Baldwin on film.
If he wasnt recovering from a torn ACL Id feel better about Baldwin. If he recovers well he might be scout team QB.
Speculating on transfers is frowned upon, and gets you DV's (I didn't DV you by the way)
I’m sorry I’m pretty new to being on here. But why does it get you downvotes if you don’t mind my asking?
I guess the majority views it as a slight on players that are currently in the program. Speculating whether certain players would/should leave the program kind of treats them like disposable pawns, when in reality they are busting their butts off on the practice field and in the classroom. Everyone has an idea in their head of who could transfer out, depending how far down the depth chart they are and if they'll be passed up by a younger guy, but it's sort of taboo to speculate on who they might be. But we also have posters that openly trash players in game threads during the fall for any little football blunder so... I dont know lol
Seems like a good explanation to me. I’m not trying to trash any players lol. I’ve played collegiate athletics so I understand the work that goes into it all. I guess I just thought those were the guys that would benefit the most from playing elsewhere.
Right. Only the coaches are allowed to treat them like disposable pawns.
Well put, Buckslan.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
No biggie. At one time, there were those who said that Lattimore should either hang up his cleats or be medical red shirted. He preserved and parlayed his talent into millions. Now, everybody knew that he was going to be a stud. Lol!
Commenters get emotional and think your transfer speculation has an impact on the real world. Then they think a downvote will offset your speculation.
Also I gave you an upvote for that information. New people like me should know what’s expected on this site before they upset people.
New people like me should know what’s expected on this site before they upset people.
I'm sorry but this has nothing with being new, it's a matter of common decency. How would you, or your family, feel if you/they saw a bunch of strangers mentioning you by name and saying it's time for you to move on?
This is also the second time you've asked who should leave/transfer-out in this thread. You were downvoted into oblivion the first time so one would think you would have learned something from that experience. I did not downvote you the first time, but I did the second time.
Shandy is not beer
TBH, if you are a player or player's family member and care about what fans (often morons) think, you are doing it wrong.
It’s the internet and they are public figures... are you serious?
It’s the internet and they are public figures... are you serious? [emphasis added]
I'll grant you the public figures part, but the notion that we can abandon civil discourse because "it's on the internet" is one of the biggest problems in society these days.
So yes, I'm serious. Downvote me all you want, but I strongly believe all communications should remain civil and decent, ESPECIALLY online.
Civil discourse??? For talking about a guy who should potentially transfer due to a lack of playing time or inability???
Seems a bit soft to me.
Its not like he is bashing his character or something.
I’m sorry I really must have hurt your feelings but I would like to point one thing out to you; I posted those comments within probably 20 seconds of eachother.
Also, to answer your question.... I wouldn’t give a shit what fans would have to say for one simple reason. In this hypothetical situation, I would have been recruited to arguably the greatest University for college football, all the while playing for my favorite team in all of sports and earning a free education. As for my family, I would tell them to suck it up because they aren’t the ones being talked about.
Also, like I previously stated, I wasn’t implying any of the guys I mentioned were bad players or anything like that. I simply believe they are talented players in super deep positions and they could benefit more by looking for a situation that better suits them.
Now let me ask you a question. Jalyn Holmes was a STUD for us, and I love him for sticking it out with us. But his situation was very similar to many of these guys I mentioned. Do you think Jalyn Holmes could have went to another University and benefited from more PT and earned himself a higher draft grade than he’s got currently? I believe so. I think Holmes is a late first, early second round type talent. He’s looking to be drafted in the 3rd or 4th.
One good reason to NOT comment on "who should transfer" or "who do you think will transfer?" is that you don't want to start a rumor that causes other schools to "accidentally" bump into a player's dad, or HS coach. Or to ask a homer reporter to bring the kid's name up at a press conference...
"Coach Herman, is there any truth to the rumor that Superstud QB from Ohio State has been on campus?"
"I cannot comment on that".
I could see Wayne Davis transfferring, it seems like he's gonna get passed up at the safety position.
Exactly my thinking. He’s a good athlete with some good potential. But same can be said for Pryor, Riep, and Wint. I’m also excited to see what Baby Hooker can do. And Josh Proctor as well.
Didn't they move him to corner? All I know is if this football thing doesn't work out, he may have a future in the WWE. That dude is getting huge!
I thought this guy would be really good. Unfortunate he is leaving.
Varys: I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.
Tyrion: A wedding.
most probably the two left to transfer will come from the QB position and one of either DT, WR or DB.
... or TE or another OL.... and probably more than 2 more total. Guys will move on to get a chance to see the field - both because they love playing and because they need to see the field to have a chance at the NFL. Unlike what many people seem to assume, guys are not being forced out to make room, because we'll have enough scholarships to offer to one or more walk-ons.
I hope Cage doesn't go. He looked and played stout. Excited for him. Cincy could use Joey. Better immediately
" It's real good whatcha done Anthony, real good ! "
When he committed to the Bucks I thought he was destined for stardom. Guess that tells you what kind of talent evaluator I am!
Head north till you smell it, west until you step in it
more like the talent level OSU has at every position...
16-2 is SWEET!
Heafty Lefty, good luck bro.
Even though he didn't do big things on the field he was a good Buckeye, hope he does great things wherever he ends up.
We should keep that in mind about ALL the non-stars from the program, past present and future.. (and yes, that includes Joe Bauserman).
I agree, but that Nebraska passing chart still gives me a hearty laugh every time.
Whoa! At first glance I thought it said Burrow and thought 'That was quick and to the point'
glad its not.
Bummer to see him go, but the math just wasn’t working out in his favor. Best of luck to you matt!
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Best of luck Matt.

I see you’re a MOD on here. I was wondering if you could help me understand why it’s frowned upon to discuss potential transfers? I don’t want to upset any people by speculating. I just thought I could voice my opinion lol.
Hey S1 I'll try my best to explain it briefly.
I know that many families and relatives of the Ohio State Players are members on this site and because of the amount of members on here - word spreads fast along with mis-information (unfortunately) that where the train gets de-railed. I also think it's in the phrasing and wording of your comment. Many members think they know information before it gets out in the media, however it's not always best to share the information, especially transfers and recruiting information.
A couple of years ago we had some members trying to reach out to potential recruits encouraging them to go to OSU but that's not their job. It turned ugly and our coaching staff shouldn't be putting out fires on something they didn't start.
If you choose to share your opinion, that's fine but keep in mind that not everyone is going to feel the same and you may want to choose your words wisely.
Hopefully this shed some light on the question.
Thank you! I didn’t mean to disrespect any players. I was just voicing my opinion on which players I thought would benefit the most from finding a better situation for themselves. Obviously if they’re capable of getting an offer from THE Ohio State University, they’re capable of playing pretty much anywhere. But thanks again, I will refrain from using names in any kind of speculation that could be construed as a negative connotation.
Someys, feel free to trash the Mods all you want, though. And we prefer to do it by name.
I feel like you’re trying to peer pressure me into more trouble lol
Guilty as charged. I’m the resident trouble maker. Nice to meet you. Welcome to the site.
And we prefer to do it by name.
Except for Poppy, we only talk shit about him behind his back
What dumbass who personally reach out to a recruit? (rhetorical because I know way too many people do this)
Linga dropping KNOWLEDGE!
Can't blame him if he thinks he has a better opportunity elsewhere. Hope he finds it.
Wishing you the best, MB.
Hov with a -1 is comical
The offseason is the longest season.
He has a special follower.
Sad to hear. Thought he played well last year and would be the starter this time around.
And so it begins
Not shocked by this-OL at tOSU tend to grab starting spots early and hold on to them for multiple years-Burrell was in a tough position to grab PT. Best of luck wherever he matriculates.
Except when they grab them late (think Reid Fragel, Darryl Baldwin, Chase Farris and maybe Brady Taylor in their final years, or even Jacoby Boren, Pat Elflein or Jamarco Jones in their third years. In Burrell's case though, he seemed to be boxed in by a combination of players grabbing positions kate (Knox and Taylor) and those who have or might grab them early (Jordan, Myers, Davis).
Not surprised. Said last year with Bowen and Jordan in front of him and their age, was gonna be a tough time for him to see the field.
Sorry it didn’t work out, Matthew. Thanks for being a Buckeye. Take the experiences and the education you’ve gotten and go be a success.
The quest for 85 doesn't have to come from transfers. An incoming recruit could gray shirt.
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
I don’t think this is something that happens very often though. And it may rub a young player the wrong way.
Read: Todd Sibley
Exactly who I was referring to lol. Not that we really needed him that bad. I think JK turned out nice lol. I also like Master Teague for the future! Can’t wait to see Snead and Gill as well.
I'm not saying it is the preferred way to get to 85. It is a way. See McCullough as an example of how it could work. Enroll summer term on scholarship, pay your own way fall semester, rejoin the team for bowl practice and bowl trip. If a player is planning to red shirt any way, it is an option.
Another consideration to remember is all current players have four-year scholarships. It has to be their choice to leave.
I can't remember the last Buckeye to do so. Maybe Cardale Jones when he went to the school in Virginia for a year. I believe that only one in a class can do so, either NCAA or B1G rules.
It was definitely a factor in Sibley decommitting.
Let's Go Bucks
According to this article, Michael Thomas was also at Fork Union with Cardale Jones.
Asking a committed recruit to grayshirt almost never works out-it's basically the staff's way of giving them the boot from the class-telling them "oh, we thought you worth a scholly, but we changed our mind!". If a recruit knows their offer is contingent upon grayshirtng at the time of their committal, that is a different story.
This was a kid I was really excited about when he picked OSU. Thought he would be a starter by year two and a stud. Seems like a reminder to us about recruit hype and to the player that while you might have been the man in H.S., it's a whole new ball game at the next level. If anything, you have to work twice as hard as you did once the recruiting blitz is over. At any rate, good luck to him, I wish him well wherever he lands (unless he goes to TTUN, then a pox on you).
You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.
On top of that, like a lot of freshman, he didn't totally take advantage of his opportunity and fell behind a bit. Price took him under his wing so to speak early 2017 and Burrel responded by getting in the 2 deep finally last year. Real hard to make up for lost time as well as osu recruits.
Making 85 wont be a problem. Im just worried we hold on to 80. I could see a few DB's,a QB, a OL, and a RB transfer before its all said and done. By this time next week we should know who's stayin.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
Thank you for being a Buckeye Good luck in your future. Do not forget us.
Earlier today, in response to DJ’s comment that Taylor had beat out both Meyer and Burrell, I responded that despite public discourse, Burrell was never in contention for PT at the Center position and I wouldn’t be surprised at his next move. I’m not surprised at the transfer!
I agree. I've felt this was coming since he first entered Urban's doghouse a couple years ago, especially given the talent being recruited behind him. I'm hoping he makes the very best of a tough situation.
Many ways to get to the number with out losing another player. Matt when you watched him on the side lines always had that smile and I just bet he was a team favorite and well liked by everyone?
Very confusing comment
I thought it was pretty straightforward
He will make some Team better. He's a Buckeye and that's just how it is.
10-0 and a chance to go 11-0...
There are a boat load of kids that won't ever get the playing time they expected when they signed up for TOSU. There must be a real true bond on this team that keeps them here when they could be starting at nearly any team in the B10 and maybe 70% of the country. One young man I can't believe he has stuck it out this far and was cut short on plays in the Spring game by a true freshman.
Good Luck Matthew..........thanks for the dance........Go Bucks
Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye. Good luck, Matt.

Wishing you the best, Matt, wherever you land. Thanks for your contribution to The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I'm not very smart. --- W.W. Hayes
The selfish Buckeye in me wants him to stay, for depth. But I understand his desire to play. Good luck man.
I rooted for the big man. Sad to see him go. Good luck ol Matty.
The only true worry we should have about this 2019 team is this:
Why is Sevyn Banks wearing number 12?
Not surprised. I was elated when OSU landed him a few years ago, and sad to see him leave, but I totally understand. Best of luck Matt. Once a BUCKEYE, always a BUCKEYE!
Wonder where he is going to go. He is from Virginia so he could go home and have some good Grad school options. Virginia, and VA Tech are both great schools and play in the ACC.
At the end of the day he is going to have his undergraduate and graduate school paid for which is nice.
THE University of Dayton
Best of luck MB.
It was mentioned that Matt wasn't exactly dedicated to getting better in his first two years on campus. He partied and, according to a former player, was "hanging out" with the wrong crowd. Unfortunately, Matt fell behind when younger players came in hungry and showed the dedication to get better. When the light finally came on for Matt I think that he had fallen too far behind the other linemen. I do believe that Matt's next team will be very lucky to have him. He will make an impact immediately at his new destination. Best of luck, young man.
I was excited when we got him as a player. Though I worried about his personality he really loved the lime light and I'm learning players that do just don't seem to work out well at OSU. It a shame cause you can see he really turned it around this last year.
Also why would people think Malik Barrow is leaving he was hurt his red shirt year? Why would he leave?
Two torn ACLs.
i'd be shocked if he doesnt go join coach herman in austin...they have a glaring need for a center.
Maybe he will join Coach Fickell in Cincy?

Best of luck young man. Appreciate your time and effort. Stay focused and work hard. Hope you reach your goals.
Not the way I expected the career of a top-100 recruit named hefty Lefty to go. Figured he'd start for us for sure. He battled it out for 3 years, gave it his all.
Best wishes to Matthew Burrell as he moves forward in his football career/life.
Was it just me or does anyone think that he kinda looked like a lesbian?
This asshole needs banned!!!
Was it just me or does anyone think...
If you're still around to read this, it was just you.
Good luck Matthew Burrell !
Best of luck young man. I am sure you will find a starting job easily.
“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” - Mark Twain
Very Classy! Wish him the best wherever he plays!
Wonder if he will transfer to UC? Trout's starting there in the fall.
It would be cool to see him as a Bearcat playing for Fick. Good luck, young man.
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
We are loaded at virtually every position now. That is great but it will lead to some transfers as guys get frustrated. No way around that problem. I just hope that the guys who do not win the starting QB job do not transfer. They all can play and they all are great. All of these guys, whether or not they transfer, will remain part of Buckeye Nation.
Good luck buddy. Part of the reason I don't get too geeked about recruiting classes either. He was part of a pretty nice OL haul if I remember correctly and he just couldn't crack the code. Best of luck wherever you land big guy!
Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.
Good luck to Burrell, wherever he ends up.
As to getting to 85 I'm certain that Urban and his assistants are on top of the matter. Urban is meticulous about evaluating players and he has no problem with being blunt with players about their chances of seeing playing time.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
Urban is meticulous about evaluating players and he has no problem with being blunt with players about their chances of seeing playing time.
That's the way it should be. If I were a player on this team (or any other), I'd much rather have the unvarnished truth about where I stand and what my chances are, rather than be strung along. That gives a guy two choices: bear down and work your ass off that much harder to see if it works out, or seek your fortunes elsewhere. You can't fault these guys for wanting a moment to shine, and if it's not going to happen here, then time to seek a more favorable situation.
Good luck to Matt. Hope he finds that chance to shine.
