I am completely convinced at this point that it is Brady trolling us.

I'm definitely on board with those guys my frustration is with the missed game action. I know it was just a spring game but even during the regular season they always seem to have issues during the game.

Noon games suck

To be fair, the buckeyes changed the time of the spring game and the entire event is pretty organic, where as the programming is somewhat set with commercial breaks. Hell, they stop live games for commercial breaks.

I think BTN really does a pretty solid job. They do great for buckeye basketball and B1G basketball in general and the pregame for football is pretty good too. Plus their streaming app is pretty high quality.

They could do a little better on the GameDay personalities to spice things up, recent former players from all schools, find their own allie laforce or Katie Nolan, and not Dinardo.

The could work on getting that blueish hue out of the studio so it doesn't look like a small town newscast in the 1980s.

I'm not sure what type of money is poured in to the network, but I find it nigh unwatchable most of the time. Production values, quality of analyses, those godawful Auto Owners Insurance commercials...
It's a poor man's FS1, which itself is a poor man's ESPN, which isn't very good either aside from a 30 for 30 here or there. I can honestly contend that were it not for live sports, I could do without all of them.

A man got to have a code...

I don’t dispute anything you said, but I’d still rather watch BTN than ESPN

Isn't this more like an open letter to 11W about the BTN?

It least they didn't bring May in, or that dancing Robot from Fox...what the hell is that thing anyway. Guess I'm just getting old.

I for one am o.k. with the network. I also like bee's in my pants. Ironic to me that both are only mildly entertaining.

Could be worse!!!!

i live in Georgia and XFINITY dropped the B1G network completely from its operation days before the game

It goes from channel 823 to 825. Just wiped it clean off of its guide. A$$HOLES!!!!!!

was thinking the same exact thing. Luckily only one, maybe two football games are on BTN. Easy enough to find a sports bar if needed.

Well, put your money where your username's mouth is and do it.  Won't have to worry about these types of things.

Anyone else notice their cameras from up high (from C deck) that provided the primary footage had some time of distortion on the outer edges of the screen? It was more noticeable when the camera or objects had movement. It wasn't due to my signal because the cameras closer to the action (along the sidelines) were nice and crisp. It was like they had cheap zoom lenses.

It was odd when James Laurinaitis said in reference to QBs running tough with the black no-contact jersey on "made his skin boil". We knew what he meant but it was such an awkward sequence from him. (Still getting used to the broadcasters chair)

HS

Noticed that as well. Overall though, solid work by James.

BTN is essentially ESPNU. You ever watch ESPNU? pretty much the same issues there as you're complaining about here.

BTN allows me to watch Ohio State sports whereas before I could not. it also makes money for the league and Ohio State. these are the only 2 boxes the network needs to check for this particular consumer.

HS

I think Urban caught BTN off guard with the first series. I think Laurinaitis even mentioned that Urban was pressing to get things going with the rain coming. As for the other gaffes, the game didnt follow a normal game script. And besides, the B1G doesnt have the power the major networks have to dictate when a game can resume and stop.

That did happen. He was all about getting it in.

Gotta love it.

HS
buckslan's picture

That's exactly it. Urban wanted to rush the start of the game because of the rain showers that were to come, caught the BTN completely off guard. They didn't even know half time was going to be skipped either. I don't fault BTN for any of the lapses that happened on Saturday, it wasn't a traditional broadcast and they didn't even know until Friday that it would be pushed back 2 hours from their original 1:45 broadcast time.

Just my $.02 but the way I see it

any Buckeye football>no Buckeye football

HS
buckeyefan67's picture

What amazed me was the  broadcaster calling the action along with Laurinaitis didn't seem to grasp the reason  WHY Urban skipped halftime and proceeded right  into the third quarter.  "I guess we'll go with the flow" was his comment I believe.  And that guy didn't have a clue ...wow .

HS
GlassCityBuckeyes's picture

The worst thing I seen was last season,on 3rd and 12 one of the announcers says I would look for some play action here if I'm the defense. Who the hell bites on play action on 3rd and 12?

The fact that Comcast dropped BTN in all states outside the Big Ten foorprint smells like influence from ESecPN to me. If only the cable companies would drop ESecPN!

Your letter needs some editing. Calling it an audition, while a funny Freudian slip, is probably supposed to be edition. And you might want a complimentary close, or an open for that matter...

I'd be fine with my provider dropping the 3 alternate channels that broadcast the same game as BTN.

HS
iowabuckeyes's picture
  1. Half of the B1G’s 14 schools were originally scheduled to play their spring games on the 14th. BTN doesn’t have that many crews.
  2. The nonstop formula was like watching a soccer game—no commercials for nearly 90 minutes.
  3. As Carpenter was interviewing Urban afterwards while he holding his grandson, all I could think was that kid looked enough like Carpenter to be his son.
