Dre'Mont Jones Impressed Urban Meyer More Than Any Other Ohio State Player This Spring

Love it.

Love reading about anyone stepping up, at any position. But when it's an interior lineman, and on the defensive side to boot,?

That just bodes well for the Buckeyes, period.

And to Mr. Jones...do your thing this season.

I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...

I mean, the guy's only weakness is that he picked a lesser high school.

Michigan has had the whole hype sound and fury for a few years now with Gary, while OSU has a quiet, lunchpail type guy who stays under the radar and excels, and will be a first rounder next year.

A man got to have a code...

You must be from St. Ed's or St. X?

Full disclosure: As a Pickerington Central fan I have no love for Ignatius, but I do have respect for their football program. I just couldn't bring myself to label them a lesser program without the sarc font.

Rivalries do run deep though, that I understand.

Ed's.
There's a poster here from Iggy's, and we dog whistle each other with stuff like this. When he sees my post, he'll chime in

I will silently observe on that one. It should be fun to watch.

BTW I respect St. Ed's as well.

Gary is good but that crap about him running a forty .3 faster than he had achieved in camps was just sad. Watching Haskins pulling away from him toward the goal line was so telling how desperate they are to be legit.

HS

Yea, i saw Gary was hyped when he saw haskins coming into the "Game" per the amazon documentary. And he "was" hyped up until Haskins completed the 3-14 and his nifty 20 yard scramble to set up the go ahead score.

I wasn't watch the Michigan documentary, but I have to see the part you describe above. What episode is that?

I have no idea, but the highlight has been all over the internet. Search it on YouTube

it's a tough psychological call between risk avoidance and risk adverse.

IMO 'avoidance' poorly characterizes 'toughness' and 'competitiveness; in this case, it presumes the player has 'arrived' and encourages the attitude of 'make it' to 'graduate of the game'.

Rather, keep it positive and focus on what keeping Jones on the sideline does for others' opportunities.  And for Jones, there's always conditioning and learning the nuances of the game like the pros.

I hope Young reads and heeds Dan's article about DreMont....

Nice to see that he is putting in the work when the lights aren't on. Dre'mont understands the bigger picture and the future that's just ahead.

Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!

It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.

I honestly think this year's defensive line will be better than last year's.

HS
BbBnD's picture

Agreed. Less depth on the ends, but the top of the End depth chart is probably more talented than last year and I think the DTs are more talented and much deeper this year. They should be fun to watch.

Jones doing what he is doing is the kind of thing that strengthens the program as well.

Yes, I know Ohio State Football is a strong program already.  This just reminds me somewhat of Michael Doss coming back for one more year.

I wish Dre'Mont Jones good health and much success. He seems like the kind of guy that you would want with you if you had to go to war.

I feel like there was a bit of a feeling that Dre'Mont took a step back last year, but I felt like he settled into a nice level of consistency.  The entire DL was really good last year, including Jones.

I hope he comes out this year and plays with a chip on his shoulder and shows everyone that he's no one to sleep on. I see him emerging as the number 1 DT in the country this year.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

I almost forgot about Dre'Mont this spring. Glad he's been about his business. Man, is our d line gonna be the shit this season. Can't wait.

This is bad news for opposing interior OL’s.

Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.

Would love to see uim get some repa at DE against power teams.

I'd sub Bobby for Young/Cooper.  A strong rush up the middle will keep QBs from stepping up to avoid Bosa + Young/Cooper.  This package will be more effective than 3/4 DEs.

I am very happy that Dre Mont decided to return, along with many others that could have left. This is a championship team in my opinion, but it is not happening unless Taron Vincent, or Antwuaan Jackson can dominate inside. We finally have some legitimate DTs on the roster. Dre Mont can play an Adolphus Washington hybrid DT, but he will need a real monster next to him. The interior DLine was our weakness as usual due to having only converted DEnds really. Haskell Garrett was a step in the right direction, but Vincent and Jackson were unanimous 5 stars, with Vincent being defensive player of the year. If he is not better than what we have inside already, I guess I have no idea what I am looking at. Landers is decent, along with converted DE Cornell, but no game changers. I like our chances to win the whole thing if Meyer will figure out DT. Burrow or Haskins should be enough to be right there on offense.

Could it be because Billy Price isn't there to block him?

I really like to see guys putting in work to maximize their talents for the benefit of the team.  Hopefully this mentality is highly contagious in the WHAC.

This is quite the statement considering that Jones set his own bar high last year.  Kid moved from DE to DT and has really improved his technique and excelled.  Seems like a "natural", like a kid that "gets it" and funny enough, still seems like he has a lot of ceiling with adding weight, etc.

HS

Our defensive line will be SO awesome this year. We have a lot of young, talented, defensive tackles coming in as well--DreMont can show them the way.

I know that we might not have as many defensive ends this year as we did last, but with the great tackles we have, we will still have a lot of depth as there's no need to have 4 ends on the field in passing situations.

It's good to be a Buckeye fan--even on a Monday!

You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!

Jones is a fantastic player, yet I also wonder if new blood that are gifted interior defensive linemen are also pushing him to be the best example he can be while also limiting the way he can be blocked in scrimmage!

I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk

1. Add in Landers' quickness and it will be difficult to double-team any of the front four.

2. Getting pressure with the front four will allow more and different coverage combos on the back end.

Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

High praise indeed because Coach Meyer NEVER uses hyperbole.
