Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.

Is it too soon to give him a new contract?
Fields of Dreams
The offseason is the longest season.
And Holtmann lands a five star in the 2019 class before Urban does
Urb’s must be losing his recruiting touch.
Clearly a change needs to be made. /s
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
Let me tweet Gene Smith and get this ball rolling.
A home state 5* at that!
"The Edge is where average stops and elite begins"
"... the top player in the state of Ohio in the 2019 class."
The TOP player !
Yes this !
This is a HUGE get that the Ohio Pipeline is now hooked "back up" !
Those are the best kind, I've heard.
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
The world is yours
Congratulations to Alonzo Gaffney.
I had to run away high, so I wouldn't come home low...
BOOOOOOOOM! Been awhile since a 5-star hoops commit!
Hopefully 'Zo plays at OSU for several years.
Welcome aboard, Mr Gaffney.
Go Buckeyes !
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Hopefully he doesn't....that means he will have led us to a championship.
"faith seeking understanding” (fides quaerens intellectum)
A Championship winning one and done is okay with me.
This is a great pick up and will really make the 3/4 interesting for a couple of years. Gaffney is probably going to have a better chance at playing the 3 than Young or LeDee, but LeDee was more skilled than Gaffney at the same age and not sure any of the three will be best suited at the SF in '19.
We need a couple of more players before we start talking about a championship. Even 3 or 4 one and dones don't guarantee that kind of success.
Definitely need development among the guys returning and entering this year, plus more reinforcements in the '19 class.
2018-19 could be an off-year for the Buckeyes with everyone who is leaving (I still have confidence Holtman &Co can hit 20 wins), but it looks as if the pieces are being assembled for a great season the following year.
Lock down the state, coach.
This next season hinges on the development of this past season's role players: Potter, Jallow, A. Wesson, Young. If physically, they get stronger and the game slows down for them mentally, collectively those guys can make a solid bunch. Add some more athletic youth with the incoming freshmen, and a grad transfer who can put up 8 to 10 a night, and we hopefully will be in for another successful season by a gritty blue collar team. Player development, to me, is where the coaching staff can really make its mark.
I'm counting on it. With no development for this past year's freshmen and sophomores we'd be toast.
Yeah, man. Hoping to get even more out of Potter, particularly. The kid is big and has skills on offense. I feel like he just needs to play with the mentality of, "I'm gonna smash on some people."
Musa and Kyle each need to find an offensive game and have confidence in it, while AW needs more consistency in his 3pt shot (he already has the confidence!) While learning to cut down on his fouls. And KW needs to improve conditioning while continuing to refine his (already good) offensive repertoire. So with the change you mentioned for Potter there's just a wee list for season-to-season improvement.
That's some nice editing right there...
Future is looking bright!!
The downvotes here are clearly from Russian bots.

Welcome to Buckeye Nation Alonzo.
That'll never get old.
Neither will people saying it will never get old after it is posted.
Was not expecting this!!! Boom!!!
Saw a tweet by Joey Lane this morning about the commitment but didn't know what it was about. This is very big for the program imo. Keeps an ohio kid in state and builds on this years momentum.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
Do you remember the Thad Five? Maybe this commitment will spark a monster class and today will be remembered as the Holt Bolt.
Unless one of the existing players/commits bolts, Holtman's going to be limited to 3 recruits in the 2019 (if my math is correct), and I believe Oden was the highest ranked recruit in the country, so it'll be hard to match the Thad 5. (6 returning scholarship players, plus 4 incoming freshman, plus Walker, less CJ who will graduate). If he gets 2 other blue chip players, though, to join Gafney, the class will be plenty good.
Trayce Jackson-Davis..a 5 star Center(30th Overall) is looking at us and Holt has an in home with him coming up...and EJ Liddell, a high 4 star (52nd Overall) kind of a wing/forward also had an in home with Holtmann the other day.
If we had a class of Gaffney, Liddell, Jackson-Davis and Walker for the 2019 class...I would say that is a pretty good haul. There are some others Holtmann is going after as well, including Jordan Mitchell, Wednell Harris, Armaan Franklin, etc.
I like the sound of that. If Holtman lands both, or even one, of those two in 2019, a couple really good seasons should follow, especially with solid development among most of the guys who would will be returning.
Whoa.. anyone got a player comparison/projection for him?
Maybe not as talented skillwise, but he reminds me of Brandon Ingram. Extremely lanky, shot up in the recruiting rankings. Has an outside game and can drive pretty well.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
A little dated but outlines his + and -.
Ive only had time to watch a few highlights but seems like a high upside guy with a diverse offensive game. Add some strength/mass and hell be a force.
*puts on former beat writer hat*
It's easy to compare him to Keita because they will be used in a similar fashion — as a stretch-four and at times a small-ball five in Holtmann's system.
They are both long with over 7-foot wingspans and both were viewed as crazy high-upside prospects coming out of high school. Alonzo is more athletic but Keita was a bit more polished offensively coming out. Next steps for Alonzo are added more consistency to his outside and midrange jumper — the thing that made Keita so good — but right now Alonzo is probably a bit more capable of creating off the bounce because of his athleticism. This will be a big spring/summer for him on the Nike AAU circuit against other top prospects. Keita was a versatile defender and think Alonzo can be the same thanks to length and athleticism. Alonzo is listed at just 190 right now but I wouldn't worry too much about that. Keita was listed at like 185 or something coming out and put on damn near 40 pounds in college.
I feel like their games are totally different. KBD was more of a 3 and Gaffney a true PF. He definitely needs to add some weight and muscle but with his frame, I'm not sure he'll ever become a beast in terms of physical appearance. But he's an above the rim finisher, can stretch the floor and gives the D a shot blocker down low. Big pick up.
...And by "true" PF, I'm meaning a PF in today's game. But he does have the upside to have an offensive game similar to KBD but with more work done in the paint.
Kevin Knox, from UK. Just declared for the draft, should get picked top 5.
Knox won't go top 5. 10-15 range most likely. Unless you were comparing Gaffney to him and saying AG will go top 5 when he comes out.
Yeah, that was a typo, meant to put top 15. No way Knox goes top 5.
I understand that you generally want to project someone that was successful. I'm not suggesting this is a better projection than anyone else's, but he looks a lot like carlton bragg at the same age. Now, bragg obviously had some off court issues which hopefully Gaffney avoids, but athletic, long lanky guys who defend, rebound, shoot pretty well for their size, with needed work on ball handling and footwork inside are very common traits between the two.

Make preparations in advance. You never have trouble if you are prepared for it.
Just a massive get for Ohio State
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
BOOM. Keep this recruiting train rolling!
Welcome to the family, Alonzo!
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
Boom! Holtmann is working hard!
By far the most excited I have been for a recruit since DLo. This is absolutely huge for the basketball program. Not every 5 star Ohio player needs to come to Ohio State, but the way they had been leaving en masse the past few years was unacceptable. Take a bow, Coach Holtmann.
BOOM! POW! KEEP EM HOME COACH!
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
In all honesty, our basketball commits should be SLAMS in that guys honor.
6-9, 190? That's not really a Big Ten body, but there's time.
I think the last time that the best prospect in Ohio was both a 5-star and a Buckeye was Jared Sullinger, so it's been a while. A good season pays off.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
6-9, 190? That's not really a Big Ten body, but there's time.
Can we just add the Freshman 15, and hope he picks ups 5 pounds or so before graduating high school?
Should be interesting to see how nutrition, strength and conditioning affect 'Zo. But even slim, he seems to be a high-quality hoopster.
He’s one of the top 20 players in America.
"Ohio fullbacks should stay in Ohio and play at Ohio State." - Earle Bruce
Leave one wolf alive....and the sheep are never safe
Will he play next year?
Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it-John 1:5 SEC meet Ohio State, Ohio State meet SEC
The more important question is: will he throw?
Got to see him play for a bit before he tweaked an ankle several weeks ago. Great talent. Went up against Tyreke Smith. Definitely needs to add weight and strength, but is very fluid.
Meechie Johnson does not look or play like a freshman either.
Kick the door open Coach Holtmann!
"Tina, you fat lard, come get some DINNER!... Tina, eat. Food. Eat the FOOD!"
What's your take on this guy? You seem to actually know something about that hoops.....
You caught that glimmer of positivity amongst his negative steam against the clitches?
Thanks for the assist on the gif, I imagine that's how he enters every gym.
You need to be humble or you will get humbled. - Jocko Willink
What a great way to start a day! Congrats.
I want more good news to follow any idea who might be the next to pledge to be a Buckeye?
Damn!!! What great news to wake up to on the west coast :) If we can follow up with a solid 2018 season, the expectations will be pretty high for 2019. Let's get that badass grad transfer who can play this season and let's keep this ball rolling. So pumped, UPVOTES for EVERYBODY!!!!
Goodness gracious. Holtmann continues to exceed expectations. Truly remarkable what he's done in his short time here. And hopefully this is just the beginning.
Hard to believe that one year ago Buckeye basketball was dead
"The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish" - Charlie Chaplin
Sorry, but I saw all I needed from those highlights to know that this dude is no PF. Maybe a stretch 4, but at 6'9" he's a 3. Can slash, shoot, and jump out of the building. LET'S GOOOOO!!!!!
Fabulous news ! This is a strong positive for us.
Thank you coach !
Welcome young man. Glad you chose us.
Nothing makes me happier when in-state kids decide to play for the Buckeyes!
"Because I couldn't go for three." -Woody Hayes
And a 5 Star to boot.
Today just got a lot better
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Great get! The video's name is right, his upside really is scary.......
If you ain’t first you’re last
Welcome to Buckeye nation Alonzo!
Terrific news! Excited to see Alonzo in the Scarlet & Gray. This is especially helpful for Holtmann's recruiting for this class because now these recruits know that they'll be playing with a player as talented as Gaffney. This should build momentum for other recruits Holtmann is going after.
I'm excited to see what else Coach has up his sleeve!
Totally unexpected BOOM!
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
Seems like the basketball recruits commit in bunches like last years class. Got to like the position we are in with Dom Penn and Meechie Johnson in ‘20 and ‘21 classes too!
This is big. Watching all the Ohio born players in the NCAA tournament was hard. I kept thinking that if we only had 2-3 of them, our team would have been even more competitive. Love the direction the program is heading. Go Bucks!
BOOM! I completely agree and hate seeing Ohio kids star at competing programs. Coach Holtmann and staff have done a terrific job in recruiting thus far, and keeping a future star like Alonzo Gaffney 'home' is the best of news. Gaffney has much room for growth but his talent, and skill-set are unique, even in today's game, for a young man that size. Go Bucks!
Hellz yeah! Welcome to the family Alonzo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude is not a true PF, more like the NBA '3s' that are in vogue today. If he can shoot at all, his time in Columbus will be brief. Holtman isn't bringing him in to bang down low constantly.
From his highlight videos it looks like he can shoot the 3 at least some. I think he is definitely a one-and-done type player if he gets stronger, two years max.
Agree, not a true power forward. However, he's got a year and a half to eat some peanut butter sandwiches and hit the weights.
Get some meat on them bones but this commit is huge.
"Let me quote the late great Cornel Sanders, I'm to drunk to taste this chicken"
A big time must get for Coach Holtmann. Build that wall around Ohio. Ohio has become loaded w basketball talent, and we need to keep it here.
HUGE BOOM! HUGE!!!
Welcome Alonzo! Glad you came aboard!
16-2 is SWEET!
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
I misread an alert I got as 5 star GUARD. This is still great, though.
This is a huge get, let’s build on this and C.J. Walker.
Gaffney is a huge positive..he will be a 1-2 year player...but man I am glad he is in Scarlet and gray.
ONE Not Done!
Put some weight on him and he'll be the perfect compliment to Kaleb Wesson in the front court.
This is just the beginning. See a bright future ahead. It's fun to watch the steps being taken to build this program. A better than expected season probably had a lot to do with him staying home. He will be big in taking the next step.
BOOM! Huge get for Holtmann and co!
We will fight to the end for OH-IO!
Jared is a fantastic character. He's showing even more with Bachman gone.
Now that’s a boom
Great news for Buckeye basketball!
Super kudos to coach Holtmann and staff. They know what they are doing and doing it superbly well. Great to be back in the market of keeping Ohio's best at home! Welcome to Buckeye Basketball Alonzo.
Best part seems to be his defense. Reminds me of Ken Johnson with the "get it out of here" blocks at the rim.
Saban on a cart eating cold pizza
What’s his wingspan? About 8’5”? He has seriously long arms
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!! Welcome ZO !!!!!!! It's gonna be GREAT !!!!!!!! Already is !!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations! That's exactly what Holtmann needed to do. I agree with others here, that 2018 - 2019 will not be easy for TOSU. But bringing in the top player in the State of Ohio, a top 20 talent nationally, is as good as it gets for you. Holtmann's a good coach and a good guy. I am perfectly fine with TOSU doing well, except against Michigan, of course.
Congrats to Coach and Alonzo!!
Gotta flip Jeremiah Francis now...
Seems like recruiting people don't think its going to happen. I would be fine going all in on getting DJ Carton instead.
damn that sucks. oh well. holtmann joined his recruitment late anyway. not his fault
I don't want to seem like an expert on the situation or anything so maybe I'm wrong. But for example today Bill Landis said he doesn't think we have much chance of flipping him.
It’s getting good now.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
Reminds me of Kevin Garnett. I'll take it
Excellent, although I wouldn't hold Bazley against Matta considering his decision to go to the G league.
Wonder why he is wearing #2 in some clips, and #0 in the others?
Who's got it better than us?
Fuck eSECpn and fuck Mythigan.
The soonest the 19 class can sign is Nov 2018 IIRC . Is that right?
Great news! Go Buckeyes!
Onward and upward! Go Buckeyes!
Any news on Joe Girard? Saw he was averaging about 50 ppg this past season and now Duke is involved. Would love to get a combo PG that can score the ball that well. Sounds like a great fit for the way Holtmann's offense works.
