“I just want to thank all the fine, smart journalists for not picking us.”
Chris Holtmann out here takin names folks
That's why we play the games.
Looking at you Seth Davis, you fool.
The only hard day was yesterday
I hereby dub thee Kam "4 Point" Williams
From the doghouse to the penthouse, what a game from Kam Williams. Let's go Bucks
That was an exciting basketball game. Hats off to SDSU, they have a ton of sharpshooters.
Survive and advance, beat the Zags.
Oh, and Dauminator?
It's LEAVE, you idiot! "Make like a tree and leave!"
You sound like a damn fool when you say it wrong!
Old Biff was really a salty dog.

Nice find - I love that !!
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Holy shit that was fun.
"We are eternal. All this pain is an illusion." - Tool
Woof, that was ugly but we will take the win. Lots of coaching moments from this game.
Feed the trolls
Everything was going against Ohio State. SDSU didn't know they were seriously over matched until the second half, when they were visibly gassed. It should have been full court press and fast break time. But I will take the win. I got tired of seeing Daum lower his shoulder and drive into people, then Tate being called for tic tac fouls. That asshole Weber didn't help my mood, which was probably his goal.
Weber really needed a time out.
Oh yeah! Following on my phone while mowing yards.
Nice. Rub it in on all those who are still in winter.
Class of 81
Ha! I’m not even close to thinking about mowing. My lawn looks like a tundra right now.
So it wasn't 70 for you today?
It was, in fact, not 70 yesterday, but it did get a little more than halfway there. Lol, not quite the same though.
My fingers are so cold, I posted twice!
Not trying to rub it in, just saying why I'm not watching.
Better D in the 2nd half. GO BUCKS!
“A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone.” - Tyrion Lannister
OSU with 72 shot attempts and 47 rebounds! Don't think the next game will be quite like that.
KBD with the clutch free throw to cover the spread :)
Got through the vaunted 5-12 matchup. Have to be happy with that even though the game wasn't too pretty.
Without the hustle and effort from Mr. Dakich, I think the game would've shifted in South Dakota's direction. Kam Williams was playing the game of his life, and the IQ of Dakich, could all propel us to some revenge against the Zags.
"Ice! It's in my veins!" - D'Angelo Russell
Dakich out there playing like Craft with his defense and heads up plays!
Yeah I was pumped for him after those back to back steal/strips....and then he just threw the ball out of bounds on a pass. He can be real up and down sometimes but glad he bounced back
Kam was clutch. Without those 7 straight points, it could've been ugly.
What really impressed me was his defense tonight. He was really disruptive, and I don't remember him ever being a factor on defense in the past. Maybe it was the suspension, or maybe I have just not been following along close enough, but it was great to see his intensity out there.
FEELS GOOD MAN
We can officially declare this season a resounding success.
I mean it already was but losing in the 1st round would have really dampened a great unexpected season (especially since we were weak down the stretch and in the Big tourney).
You win with people.
And so forth...
9 Units Strong!
Exactly....it's what I was thinking too. Now just go out Saturday and play loose.
I’d say bucks are playin w house money but revenge is a hell of a motivator. They have try their hardest to avoid losing twice to the zags
Delighted to see the defense step it up in the second half. Well done guys!
Wow, three players scoring 20 or more. A. Wesson shot horrible, as well as Dakich, but Gonzaga beatable if those two take it up a notch.
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
With his very poor shooting, 0 for 6, and many not even close I was wondering why we was on the floor towards the end. Also missed not seeing his brother on the floor a bit more.
Kaleb was a liability on defense against that team....thats why we went small. Would have been efficient on offense tho. Andre plays tons of minutes for his defense. And when things are really rolling(MSU & Purdue) he will snap a couple 3s. Wont be a secret that he has to connect on a few for us to beat the zags.
Great coaching...not letting A. Wesson shoot the three, SDST had a good game plan (2nd half) leaving A. Wesson open on the perimeter daring him to take shots. Had to take allot of restraint (by Wesson) not to take those open shots. If he had it would have been doom. Holtmann knew he needed Andre for defense and keeping from attempting 3's was coaching brilliance. Kam dominating the game the last few minutes. Awesome!
"We're going to give the ball to dumb-ass and grind meat"--Woody Hayes
I was about to get mad, but you only said Dakich “shot” terribly. Which is true. Luckily he was awesome on defense today
He ain't even stretch doe!!
Should never have been as close as it was at the end. Reminded me of a Cavs vs Warriors game in that Ohio State (the Cavs) could grind a good lead only to see it disappear in an instant because of a few clutch 3-pointers from the Jackrabbits (Golden State)

Great job Buckeyes - get some rest and prepare for Saturday's game.
We'll put this one in the Boom category. On to the next BasketBucks!!!
Fields of Dreams
Congratulations Buckeyes, big win and we get more hoops Saturday. Rest up, Zags will be a challenge.
When I was 6 I was thinking about this rivalry. This one is seared on your soul, It's ingrained through every part of your body. -Urban Meyer
Onto the next one...
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Great coaching by The B1G Coach of the Year! And, the team really played like a team after the long layoff. Happy for them all. Now go get some revenge!
"Age wrinkles the body, quitting wrinkles the soul" Woody Hayes
To beat Gonzaga, OSU must shoot better, defend better, and cut down turnovers (9 vs a low-ranked defense!).
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Score more points!
That is all that matters.
I'm happy that I don't have to see Daum's stupid haircut anymore. Go Bucks!
They're all chickens. The rooster has sex with all of them.
I'm happy that I don't have to see Daum's stupid haircut anymore.
...unless the Cavs draft him.
Yes, that was horrific. Done with a Flowbee, I was thinking. Not a bad player; lived up to his pre-game hype.
Well, it certainly does suck...
"Everyone has a plan, 'til they get punched in the mouth."
Ha! I have a Flowbee. Found it at a garage sale and couldn't resist. Best Product Ever
"You're welcome for the house I built."
agree. But that kid can really play. Just saying....
That made the hair that much more annoying.
Didn't see (damn you, job-work), but kept up on scoring...that's a win earned for sure.
Hats off to the Jackrabbits, they put up a fight.
I had to run away high, so I wouldn't come home low...
I conveniently developed a migraine around lunch time and had to go home sick for the rest of the day...
Shandy is not beer
TOSU came out rusty with the long break, but I liked how they were aggressive with the 3 point shots. They got their rhythm back in the 2nd half. Hopefully that will carry them past the Zags.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
I hate to disparage the title of this article but the Buckeyes did not survive, they WON!!! Win and advance!!!
Welp, survive and advance. Not feeling confident about the next game.. but hopefully this time around, KBD won't attempt only 7 shots against the Zags... (Jallow shot 8x). Need a big performance from KBD and need to defend the 3 better. They shot 12-25 against us last time.
Bench needs to be much better too. They were awful today and were awful vs the Zags last game (2-14 for 10 points) compared to Zags bench who went 8-14 for 22 points.
Bench needs to be much better too. They were awful today
Not so fast. Dakich had 3 steals, 4 assists 4 rebounds and 5 points, plus some good defense.
Be careful with that broad brush.
He did accumulate some stats and had some good moments, yes. But also did shoot 1-7 on the game, all from 3, all wide open and had a couple bad fouls and TOs. Hence, I said the Bench. Nothing broad about shooting 1-14 (1-13 from 3 w/ most wide open shots) and 7 points. But if you think that sort of bench production will cut it against Gonzaga, then ok. They did go 2-14 for 10 points against the Zags last time around, so a little better but lost by 27. (Jallow was the starter then w/ Kam coming off the bench).
OK. Just remember that last June Holtmann wasn't sure he would have a decent starting five.
And you are complaining about the reserves—who were playing in their first NCAA tourney game.
I'm not complaining, I'm saying the bench needs to be better if we want to win next game... not sure why that's so hard to comprehend.
A couple oh $h*t moments...but win, learn, advance and play again. Zaga not unbeatable...like the fast break points but would like to see more inside out...and a little less perimeter ball. Let’s do this!
If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.
Time for some payback on Saturday! Go Bucks!
"Old minds are like old horses; you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order."
Mad props to Killa Kam! Probably his best game as a Buckeye.
Playing with house money now. Beat the Zags!
Did we set our record for most 3s attempted in a game?! Never thought I'd see that from a team full of non-shooters that didn't include someone like 3bler. Crazy. Then again, never thought I'd see 42 combined points from CJ and Kam. We will need Kam to step up on Saturday again.
I will bet the house that the Zags don't run OSU off the court this time around.
If they play like they did today then def not. By far the worst they've played this year (in a win). Not sure I'd bank on Zags shooting 5-23 from 3 again or 13-25 from the FT line. We shall see. UNCG came in w/ the 6th best scoring D and one of the better overall Ds in the nation and it showed. That half court trap/zone D was pretty good.
You are right. Doubtful that the Zags shoot that poorly against us. Seems like EVERYONE shoots lights out against us. It's getting annoying.
Either way this season has been great, we got back to the tourney and won a game and win or lose vs the Zags (as long as it's not another blowout) I'm pretty happy with the season thus far. Now next year may be a step back, but overall the program is moving in the right direction.
There are lots of good reasons to think next year could be a step back (loss of KBD being the biggest), but I'm sure Holtman won't be content settling for that, just as he (and the players) weren't content for this to be a rebuilding year. I'm hoping he/they surprise once again, with actual player development with the guys returning, and contributions from the new ones.
And yes, we should ALL be happy with the season so far.
Goodness. I just finally got my heart rate down. Good win. Saturday will be a totally different style of game. Give em hell bucks
Glad we were able to win game one! We were the better team and the effort/energy that this team has played with most of the season has been a pleasant surprise. Completely opposite from last year..
The Negative: We are not a very smart basketball team. Cam Williams played with great energy but he has to learn to think. Jackson is another one who doesnt always use his basketball intelligence. We have no chance of beating the Zags (little chance if we do) if we dont do a better job of making better decisions..
Not always pretty, but a win is a win.
Great bench play, guys finding guys and hustling.
There is nothing more remarkable as learning to think better.
Did you mean great bench effort? They hustled and played decent D, but didn’t play great...offense stats were bad
Great win! Beat the Zags! Go Bucks!
Got tired of seeing Daum’s parents. But nice seeing the last one with boo boo lips.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
Exactly. I guess there were no Buckeye parents (or fans) in the crowd.
*Further than anyone save Dakich thought !
Payback time...Zags !
Phew. We need the other guys to step up and take smart shots... The one step inside the 3 point line Kam shot before he got fouled on the 3 point attempt made me cringe. :)
Dakich had a nice little statline for a reserve player: 5 points, (2 of 2 late, clutch free throws), 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals.
Lot of grit, lot of heart, lot of high basketball IQ. Love that kid. So glad he's helping this team make this run this season.OSU wouldn't be in the position they are in, without Dakich.
He plays tough on-the-ball defense. He gets his quick hands in there and gets deflections.
He helped create the key spurt of the first half to open up the game for the Buckeyes, with 3 consecutive forced turnovers on 3 South Dakota State possessions: 2 steals, (w/ an assist on a KBD 3 on one of them), and a 1 forced charge.
All that and he never had both feet off the floor at the same time...
Let's stop with the "they can't beat Gonzaga" negativity. Gonzaga is not exactly 1982 North Carolina, they probably should have lost today without an epic ref and choke job.
Nice job to get a tournament win after last season's nightmare.
Holtmann has changed the culture of the program. Recruit some offensive talent and hopefully in 2 years they can make a run in the tourney.
Fans keep asking why Caleb Wesson is not playing much. Some keep insisting its matchups, small lineup preferred but if you watch closely he is in poor cardio shape. 4 or 5 minutes running up and down the court and he is gassed. He was glued to floor against Penn State , couldnt rebound and Holtmann rewarded him with the bench. When he gets tired his offensive footwork goes awry,
Critical offseason for him to get in shape.
Unfortunately the Zags played a real stinker game today. They will play well Saturday with a huge home crowd advantage. Staying within 10 would be a success for this team.
Great game by Kam. Tough win against a solid team.
Will TheDizzle lick a random guys ass now that we have won 25 games? Tune in to find out folks
I'm LMFAO! You don't forget, do you Bucknut?
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
UNCG gave Holtmann the recipe to beat Gonzaga as the Spartans went directly at them in the paint. Talk about a coaching blunder in that Zag game? UNCG up by 2 with 1:01 remaining with the ball and that coach calls a half court alley oop?
WTF and game over....
Buckeyes need to pound it inside more and slash and drive on them to the rim. If OSU's guards step up next game, Zags will have their hands full.

Great win. Time to come out of your funk now, Tate. Use your head and stay on the floor.
Glad we pulled out the victory. I hope the OSU basketball game isn't at the same time as the OSU-ND B1G championship hockey game.
Seeing as these games are so much about mental attitude, I believe we have to have an advantage against Gonzaga. They're probably thinking it's going to be a cake walk like last time.
Saturday's game will be a tough challenge. It will practically be a home game for Gonzaga, especially if they fly to Boise. Otherwise it's around a 7 hour drive from Spokane. Out west people are used to driving long distances. Hopefully the Buckeye fans from WA, OR and ID will show up en masse.
That was an exciting and nerve-racking game. Let's hope they never attempt that many threes again lol
If they manage to beat Gonzaga on Saturday this will be one of the most ridiculous turn arounds I've ever seen
That was fun to watch. Both teams were hot in the first half
I was hoping for Buffalo 1st round... umm, glad we avoided them lol. RIP bracket
I hate it when announcers don't know the rules. Weber kept harping on the CJ Jackson airball layup that he rebounded and put back in which is completely legal. Also how many times are people banking in 3's against OSU, seems like every damn game.
I think, and I could be wrong, it didn’t hit the backboard and wasn’t a rebound.
It didnt hit anything, airball but completely legal unless it was an NBA game but Weber kept harping about it.
