When I was a kid, my parents had a coffee table book called, “Vas You Ever in Zinzinnati?” which is how German immigrants pronounced it. There was no Cincitucky back then. But there was Hamiltucky. I still laugh when I think about how Hamilton wanted to be officially known as “Hamilton!” with an exclamation point.

People make a big deal about Skyline but Goetta will forever be Cincinnati’s best and original contribution to the food palette.

Goetta for the win...have a couple of people that will bring it up for the occasional OSU tailgate, and everyone looks at it like a rare fish from the Indian Ocean.  Then they eat it and are happy.

Lived in Cincinnati the last 40 years.  My take on their college basketball teams.  Xavier is the typical "rich boy" school.  Arrogant beyond all get out.  UC is in no man's land.  In football, they are an OSU wannabe and in basketball , they are a Kentucky wannabe. And they will never be either.  Best basketball team in Cincinnati area is the Thomas More ladies team--simply outstanding.  GO BUCKS!

I am unfamiliar with Goetta, but I like the sound of it  thanks for the link or I would have been lost. Seems as though it would fit in nicely around Chicago with all the cased meats and such that we have around her like cream sausage, which I would guess few have heard of even in this area.

What is cream sausage? Bohemian Cream Sausage - an old time (over 75 years) recipe made of veal, pork, and milk. It's a thin sausage in a long, thin rope that actually looks like a big pinwheel. Place the whole pinwheel in a pan and fry it.

Google a recipe and make your own goetta. It’s not hard. Steel cut oats, onion, pork sausage (or ground beef or both). Sometimes, we’ll use a spicy ground sausage, which adds a kick. Fry it in a pan and have it with fried eggs for breakfast, swirl it around to soak up the yoke. Mmm, good stuff, that.

I still laugh when I think about how Hamilton wanted to be officially known as “Hamilton!” with an exclamation point.

Seriously?  I've never heard that.  Was it when industry was still booming up there?  Hey, with the popularity of the Broadway show, maybe it would bring tourists nowadays.  A bunch of prophets Hamilton had, apparently.

People make a big deal about Skyline but Goetta will forever be Cincinnati’s best and original contribution to the food palette.

Whoa, whoa, whoa...  I can agree with you that both are great.  But I cannot disparage Skyline in any way, shape, or form.  I'm currently planning when I'll get my St. Patrick's 3-Way.

There was no Cincitucky back then. But there was Hamiltucky.

The whole [insert place]-tucky thing needs to die.  Kentucky is Kentucky; everywhere else is not.  It's lazy shorthand used to refer to rural areas and/or places that someone doesn't like -- and, almost always, has never been.  It's also an unnecessary dig at the State of Kentucky (er...  sorry, Commonwealth).  I've been in several states across this fine country.  There are far, far, far more backwards places than Kentucky -- several of which are in Ohio.

If you don't like a place, call it like it is.  Otherwise, you're on par with the people who say "Urban Liar" and "Suckeyes."

As much as I would enjoy crushing the hopes and dreams of TTUN fans riding an 11 game win streak, I would rather see Patterson be declared ineligible, they come in with 5 losses, the Buckeyes smoke them 59-0, and Harbaugh be involuntarily committed. Beating an 11-0 TTUN team would crush them temporarily. The second scenario would destroy their souls forever. Harbaugh is their last shot at getting back into the group of blue blood programs. On some level, their fans know it. I want to see the proverbial light fade from their eyes.

Lamar Odom was a beast. He also caused serious problems for multiple programs as well. Everyone knows about Pitino and his issues, but until reading the wmd I did not know that Larranaga was also. Liked him when he took George Mason to the Final Four a decade or so ago, and have followed him a bit since. Not so good.

The stats about Carlos Hyde running out of the gun as compared to snaps under center are wild. That big of a difference is surprising.

Would be nice to see the BasketBucks make a run, but as a 5 seed they are only supposed to win one game if seeding holds, so no shock that a simpleton like Seth Davis is yammering. I am fine with Dakich being right in his bracket with three B1G teams in the Final Four. That would be great

"They say, "these geeks come a dime a dozen.  I'm lookin' for the guy who's supplyin' the dimes." -Classy Freddie Blassie

HS
MichiBuck12's picture

I'd be fine with Dakich being right, but I've been of the opinion most of the year that the B1G just isn't that good this year. I've seen a lot of people picking Sparty to win it all. I know March is their time, and Izzo always seems to get the best of his guys this time of year, but I just don't think they are that good. Neither is TTUN or Purdue. All of the B1G games I've watched just look like sloppy basketball. And while much improved, and better than expected, I don't think the BasketBucks are on the same level as the top tier teams in the country right now. I would love to be wrong, although my bracket would suffer big time.

HS
blueblazer22's picture

The Big Ten was not that good, and that is reflected by so few teams being in. Although the SEc was bad as well and they got twice as many teams as they deserved, but that is another story for another day. Sparty can make a run, and if Purdue plays like they did during that 19-0 run of games then they can play with anybody. But I would not bet on either of those. I don't like my bracket no matter how it goes.

Agreed.  First, the whole "Izzo in March" thing is a myth.  His teams crap the bed just as much as those of his cohorts.  Second, people keep on talking about how underseeded MSU is.  Looking back at their schedule, it's tough to see exactly what they've done to impress so many people.

Maybe they've looked really good putting up okay results against mediocre competition?  I don't know.

Similar story with Purdue.  They look great on paper (i.e., the measurables on their roster look good).  But one wonders whether the people picking them to go far (granted, there are far fewer than those on the MSU bandwagon) have actually watched them play.

HS
blueblazer22's picture

Sparty looks like what has become a typical Sparty team-lots of talent, a head case in there maybe, and the "wizardry" of Izzo. If all hoes well they are good. But they could also lose in the second round and I would not be shocked.

As for Purdue, I watched them a ton this year, and man did they look good for two months there. If Haas is doing his thing down low, and those 2's and 3's are knocking down inside-out 3's, then this team can beat anybody. Unfortunately for them those 3's have not been as plentiful of late which makes them vulnerable. If they are hitting on all cylinders I would take the Boilers against anyone in this field. But they also could lose to a 10 seed.

I hope they let Patterson play. And I hope Michigan is 11-0 and rides its infamous lame mule of a high horse into Columbus. I want their fans so close to the summit they pack their grandfather's oxygen tank among their tailgate materials because it reminds them of their last victory in Columbus (which none of them remember).
And come late November, I hope to grab a handful of greasy hair and watch their eyes bulge as Urban F. Meyer—the "F" stands for FUCK MICHIGAN—kicks them back into the abyss.

As the child of artists, who may or may not have indulged in certain substances over the years, I found the NYT piece on tortured artists searching for their voices in sobriety fascinating. The over-glamorization and nostalgia people express for the times they drank, smoked, or injected themselves into an utterly shameless, pants-shitting, puking, walking on their lips stupor is sad.  It's encouraging to hear a writer who has searched for and found a way to express themselves outside the stupor.

I’m with you NB91, I’ve spent most of my adult life working with designers. Guess what, for every talented substance abuser, there are 3 or 4 who are just as talented who are clean. Most artistic people I know are a bit “off”, and that’s OK by me, some are just a little weird, just not addicted to crap. The whole you have to do drugs to be artistic is a load of crap pushed by people who just want an excuse.
