If he takes the job I’ll be rooting for him to do well. The SEC needs a good, clean coach in its conference.
Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.
Well said SP .............. Well said
Clean being the operative word!!
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
That would be a switch

GA went 18-15 in the SEC? I'm surprised that didn't get them in the tourney.

They were 18-15 overall but only 7-11 in SEC play. Dawgs finished 11th in the conference.
Clean coach in the SEC gets you last placed and fired. -- Just saying what you all are thinking.
He always did like recruiting the state of Georgia. Went after a lot of kids from there.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
I'm a little surprised that he's getting back in the action after just the one year. I would say he seemed to be coaching tired at OSU, and even if my perception is wrong, he definitely was not the same coach at the end for one reason or another.
Change of scenery often is very helpful.
Urban Meyer looked like shit after 2010 at Florida. Went 12-0 at OSU in 2012.
I'm thinking expectations aren't as high in GA for basketball. Not that they don't want success...
If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.
Matta would be first coach to go Bulldog. Buckeye. Bulldog.
I wish him well.
Moses, your last name is spelled wrong.

Go for it, Thad! I would love to see him succeed again after an unfortunate end here.
A great coach - I am so happy to hear the year off has done some good for him. Georgia would be very lucky to nab him.
Of those two, I would think Pitt would be a better fit, but who knows. Would be odd to see him not on the side lines in Cbus for sure.
Great guy, deserves another shot if he's ready and wants it.
It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
Not sure why you see Pitt as the better fit.
Pitt has fallen a ton in the last couple years
They had plenty of success under Jaime Dixon but since joining the ACC have gotten steadily worse.
IN his last 3 years Dixon was 28-26 in the ACC and finished 5th, 9th and 9th, he then left for TCU and Stallings has been terrible going 4-32 in Conference finishing 13th and 15th.
They have lost 23 straight conference games and are 13-40 in their last 53 games, ie terrible with some massive blow out loses.
26 to Miami, 55 to Louisville, 25 to UVA, 31 to PSU, 26 to Louisville, 35 to Duke, 27 to Duke, 31 to UNC, 24 to Clemson, 34 to Louisville, 23 to BC, 29 to UVA,
If Matta wants to be successful he might find it easier in Athens rather than Pitt.
Because Pitt has much better facilities (invested when Dixon was the coach) and Thad probably knows the Midwest recruiting better than the South (which could be positive or negative)
"Tina, you fat lard, come get some DINNER!... Tina, eat. Food. Eat the FOOD!"
Exactly my thought, also Pitt is only a few hours from Columbus, depending on if he wants to stay here or not?
He's a Midwest guy, Pitt has had some success recently, and he knows the region.
He no longer lives in Columbus.
I didn't know he had moved away, used to see him Liberty Tavern now and then up in Powell.
Sil covered it pretty well. Just my opinion, Pitt could be an easier transition, location, recruiting, knowledge of the region, facilities, etc.
I think Thad, and many others, would view Pitt as a huge challenge. Regardless of their facilities, they are an odd fit in the ACC. Kids who want to play ACC hoops won't look at Pitt near the top of their list with all of the better options that are in the league. Kids who were Big East types won't see Pitt as a way to check that box. There isn't enough talent in Pennsylvania and West Virginia to sustain Pitt basketball and it will be hard to import kids into the program. Pitt screwed its basketball program by chasing the football money in the ACC.
I’m very happy for him and looking forward to seeing a rested and healthy Thad in action.
I can root for a Georgia BB team.
Buy the ticket take the ride.
I have been looking for a second team to root for in basketball, I have two boxers, I guess I can root for the bulldawgs, if Matta is hired. I didn't like the way he was let go at TOSU.
Good for him. Good luck coach. Hope you take UK down
As new resident of Georgia, I’ve found my second team, if Thad takes the job.
Feed the trolls
Definitely less pressure. I live in GA and most bulldog fans don’t even know Fox was fired. They just don’t care about basketball much down here. Football is king at OSU too, but down here a lot of folks just see basketball as a boring yankee sport.
I lived in that part of the country for a few years and think you're 100% right. If it's an issue to him at all, I hope Thad realizes that the difference between football and basketball at UGA would make basketball seem like the #1 sport at OSU.
Looks like someone is trying to get the jump on Wikipedia.
His life. Will always root for him.
But think this is wrong on so many levels. Think it would have done him a world of good to take a couple years off. But, whatever.
Congrats coach! Good luck!
16-2 is SWEET!
Pitt would be a much better fit with his ties and they have always been a much better program than Georgia in hoops. SEC is almost impossible to change. Just look at Pearl and Auburn.
Good luck Coach. I hope that you only lose one game a year and that is against the Buckeyes in the National Title game.
