Had no idea this was even going on, thanks for the post so I could throw some support her way!

I have voted for her 15 times in the last several minutes. It keeps saying "thank you for voting." So is this like MLB All-Star voting, where you could vote numerous times and have each vote count?

Okay - there is a limit to the number of times one can vote. I finally got this, probably at around 50 votes:

Thank you, we have already counted your vote.

Yeah baby, just dropped another 30 for her using the tablet. Next up - the phone.

Vote as in singular? Perhaps you did not get the memo my friend, it said to vote early and vote often!

I see buck7 put in his vote for me.

You can log 30 votes for her per day, per device, before your voting is cut off by the site. When I posted earlier about vote total, I had not been counting. When I voted via the tablet and the phone I kept count and found that the limit is 30 votes per device.

Yesterday I put in 90 votes for her using a PC, a tablet and my phone. I just followed the link to the poll and put in a vote for her and it was accepted. So, during the course of today, I will put in another total of 90 votes for her.

I wonder if it's per device or per IP address - these internet polls can be manipulated too easily unfortunately.  I do think Katie is definitely the right vote though.

edit to add:  i wonder how many hits USAToday gets for advertisers based on this format...  :)

The vote opportunities are declining. Yesterday, I could register 30 votes per device/IP. This morning I could enter 25 votes per device/IP. I just went back and was able to log 10 votes per device/IP. Total thus far - 195 votes.

I have been logging in and out randomly on and off throughout the entire day. I must have cast 450 to 500ish votes for her by now, counting the 90 I put in Thursday. I stopped counting when I was in 250 range, at around 2:00 PM Friday afternoon.

OK, added my support for Katie, but this polling is obviously flawed, since there is no option to vote for Prahalis or Lavendar at their respective positions!

No Sheryl Swoopes either. But this is for highschool career I believe, so that may have something to do with it.

Today is the LAST DAY to vote.

Here is where she stands:

I spent considerable time Friday through Sunday, voting like a mofo to get her to 69% of the vote. I have now cast well over 1,000 votes for her, meaning that I am responsible for 1/6 of her votes. I believe we can get her to 75% of the vote, if y'all help out a little. Spend 15 minutes today voting for her. That will amount to approximately 30 votes. If every person reading this casts 30 votes for her, coupled with the 250 to 500 I will record for her today, who knows?

What does it matter? That is a good question I have asked myself while I have frittered hours away doing this. The fan vote will only result in a single panel vote on her behalf. But if she is the overwhelming, by a landslide, it's not even close fan-favorite, maybe it will sway a panel voter or two and make it more difficult for some of them to vote another way? I dunno. But help an old crazy fart out today and vote. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I added 10 more. I have to run out for a bit and will vote more when I get back.

HS
Buckaroo Banzai's picture

Thank you for that. After I first posted, I had gotten her up to 69.21% and then a flurry of votes (about 25 or so) came in for some others and drove the percentage all the way down to 68.88%. It took me an hour of steady voting to get back to 69% even, and another hour (250+ votes altogether) to get her back over 69%.

I figured that was you in there with me. I was seeing the votes increase by increments of 2.

Yes, but see my post from 5 hours ago, relevant portion excerpted here:

A panel voter may be swayed by a landslide, but it probably makes little or no difference if that landslide over second place is 2 to 1, 3 to 1 or 4 to one, because a landslide of more than 2 to 1 is going to be seen as a result of ballot box stuffing, not a general consensus of fans. Don't get me wrong - I too voted for Katie multiple times. I just don't think that either my extra 20 votes or the last couple thousand votes from 11W will make a difference.

In fact, if we knew who (other than perhaps Taurasi), might be Katie's biggest competition, our efforts would have been better spent doing mass votes for the player (or maybe a couple of them) whose vote total stands behind that comoetitor, just to knock her down a notch or 2. A thousand votes apportioned among the bottom three vote getters would leapfrog them above. Everyone but the top two.

HS
Buckaroo Banzai's picture

. . . because a landslide of more than 2 to 1 is going to be seen as a result of ballot box stuffing . . .

That is a bold statement expressed in terms of unwavering certainty. You may be right. But a 3 or 4 to 1 landslide may also be seen, at least by some, as a mandate. I guess it depends upon the sophistication of the individual panel member. There may be one or two panel members who choose to believe that each vote represents the opinion of a different voter. And short of providing the IP addresses for each vote, there would be no way for the more jaded panel members to make an actual, evidence-based factual determination that "ballot box stuffing" did indeed occur. But of course, being jaded, by definition includes the notion that suspecting something has occurred justifies concluding that it did in fact happen.

But whatever, I am fewer than 100 votes away from getting her to 7,000 and I will stop when that milestone is reached. Finally, since the voting is open and unrestricted (meaning every voter can vote as often as he or she chooses), the rather semantically loaded phrase "ballot box stuffing" is not entirely applicable, inasmuch as it carries with it the intimation of voter fraud.

It's not fraudulent if it's allowed, and I cast multiple ballots myself to get her to 70%, but it still is (perfectly legal) ballot box stuffing. It's also fun. I just don't think that, past a certain point, it will mean much of anything.

HS
Buckaroo Banzai's picture

It's not fraudulent if it's allowed,

Agreed, even though, or perhaps because, that phrase is tautological.

. . . but it still is (perfectly legal) ballot box stuffing.

I am sorry I cannot agree with that. Inherent within the phrase is the concept of illegal voter activity. The phrase is ONLY used to describe voter fraud in "one man, one vote" elections. It has no application to elections that invite voters to vote as often as they wish. I invite you to look it up.

It's also fun. I just don't think that, past a certain point, it will mean much of anything.

On this I am forced to agree with you on every facet, without reservation or restriction.
