Well at the end of the day , I bet we’d all still trade 3 losses to psu in basketball in exchange for one football win over psu! :)
I'd rather not have to trade and just win 4 times.
Not sure about that, but I'll trade the 3 losses (as painful as they were) for two Top 5 wins (MSU and @Purdue) and an NCAA Tourney berth.
I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.
Recruiting is going to be very important...need a point guard and guys that can shoot th rock.
TC is a beast! I just love good ballers and he is good. I do think KBD on our end is a stud as well but he is too damn passive.
"faith seeking understanding” (fides quaerens intellectum)
When a guy does whatever he wants to you game after game, try putting him on his ass once and see if that shakes him up. Don't have to be dirty just physical
I have been thinking the same thing. Why not do the same things to him as teams to to KBD. Don't the Bcks have someone that can measure up physically?

Chris Holtmann is already looking at the big dance. Find a way to make a run fellas!
Not only disappointed but embarrassed. Still can't figure out how this coaching staff and group of players could not get it together and beat the 7th place B10 team at least one out of three. Three straight times and no answer to defending the 3 pt shot, giving up many easy layups and dunks, including the game winner, not to mention the rebounding differential. Simply shocked and surprising!
Basketball is all about matchups, not really that shocked we have trouble beating Penn State. They shoot the 3 ball very well, play active defense, and get a lot of loose balls/rebounds/2nd chance points. Its amazing what Holtmann has done with the players we have on our roster, but they aren't his players and he needs a few recruiting classes.
Maybe a little embarrassing, but I'd be infinitely more embarrassed to tell people I went to Penn State.

I agree. This is on the coaching staff, especially a 3rd loss when holding a lead. Someone didnt study the film.
We had good leads and should have won games #1 and #3. That is on coaching, imho. Don't misunderstand I am happy with the season overall. Go Bucks!
this team out performed (about) everyone's expectations. They have a few holes to fill (PG, another scorer, etc.) but Chris has this team on the right track.
16-2 is SWEET!
"Ultimately, Penn State appears to be just a tough matchup for an Ohio State team that has already accomplished so much this season,"
More like a tough match up against the refs as well. A disparity of 20 foul shots to 11 for OSU. Outscored at the charity stripe 16-8 and that was the difference in the game. KBD was mugged by the reach ins on that last play and nothing called. I'm hoping Purdue just crushes these p****s and knocks them out of the NCAA's.........
Saban on a cart eating cold pizza
Tony Carr likes to push off with his elbow, multiple times tonight he did it, every time the refs missed it. One time he elbowed Jackson in the head and Jackson got a foul called on him. Missed over the back on multiple rebound attempts, once again the officiating was poor to awful. The travel they called on Kam was not a travel, while Tony Carr and the guy Lamar traveled multiple times. Also all KBD needed to do was make his free throws with 16 seconds left in the game and we are moving on to the semi finals tomorrow
It’s not the referee’s fault. It’s cheesy to say so.
Agreed completely, let it go. PSU is a bubble team at best.
Did I miss Tate's 5th foul? If not, why would you not have him in the game with 3 minutes to go? Match-ups, smach-ups... I want the leader of the team on the floor when it counts.
Tough loss, but I'm so, so grateful. I'm so grateful I have nothing to do with the reprehensible cesspool responsible for this and this.
Pretty much sums it up.
Losing to any team 3 times in a row is troubling....if it's purely talent-deficiency, then there's not much one can do about it. Just need to make sure it's not coaching, game-plan adjustment, etc....It's probably the former and maybe just mental exhaustion.
Having said the above, perhaps this is a blessing in diguise. The team has been running on fume to get to where it is this season, since no one expected it. Perhaps emotions have now been used up. a longer rest period will help come tournament time.
Tony Carr Player of the year?
Bucks a 6/7 seed for the Tourney?
By far the most disappointing thing in a season to remember has been the inability to deal with this team. Blame the officials or whatever, but the bottom line is you cannot get outscored 5-0 and miss critical free throws at the end of the game.
And if we think the refereeing is going to be any more in our favor or better in the NCAA, we better be prepared for perhaps more calls not to go our way. The way they stumbled around at the end of the season likely means a diminished seed and a tougher first round matchup.
I think Penn State is just about the only disappointment - because otherwise the season went great. If we had won all three PSU matchups we would be 30 and 5 and playing MSU right now.
But that was not to be. I look at it like this - we could have been 3 and 0 against Penn State, but lost to MSU and lost to Purdue at Purdue and let Michigan beat us by 20 back in January ---- would I rather have that? No. Penn State is not bad, they had a bad conference record partially due to injuries, but right now they, and TSUN, are playing well.
I'm just hoping the Big Ten, including tOSU, does well in the NCAAs.
Hey, if we had won them all this year, what would have to look forward to NEXT year??
The Buckeyes have achieved amazing things this year but this loss reflects the lack of depth and execution that many of us expected. Tate's heart couldn't overcome PSU's interior defense. Dakich's intensity wasn't enough to guard Price at the end. KBD couldn't carry the team by himself. What this team did give us was effort. I'll take that and look forward to the 2nd year of the Holtman era.
PS- shout-out to the assistant coaches. They are developing players in a way we haven't seen for awhile.
"You either get better, or worse, you never stay the same." Woody Hayes
Tate is the Bucks second best player and " heart and soul " of the team. If so, why was he not on the floor in last crucial minutes. Also, I would have liked to seen Holtmann give Jallow a chance to defend Carr. Carr is a future pro and tough matchup for anyone, but of all the Bucks on the roster, Jallow is the only one close to Carr's size and athleticism. Using Dakich on Carr for the last few possessions was a mistake by Holtmann.
Carr’s eyes were probably as big as saucers...game on the line, in MSG, bringing the ball up the floor and the only guy not in Hoosiers who still shoots underhand layups is guarding you...ncaa tourney you chalk it up as bad luck or a mistake...but TC has torched us 3x in a row = coaching
If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.
In hindsight, good idea: Jallow is built to guard a guy like Carr.
This team exceeded everyone's expectations, but there are just too many missing pieces of the puzzle. KBD should stay another year and sharpen his skills.
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
KBD's willingness to stay would be both good for him and great for helping rebuild a team that was left very short handed by the previous staff. Don't hold your breath though. Too many kids leave early only not to make it at the "stars in their eyes NBA" level including a number of previous Buckeyes.
For the final possession why not put Bates-Diop on Carr and make him shoot over a taller defender? Having Dakich on him makes no sense. Jackson losing sight of his man is also bewildering. Carr may hit the three at the end but unless the Buckeyes had a big man guarding the bucket to avoid what actually ended up happening, you can never let your man get past you. It is a long wait until our next game so rest and preparation will hopefully get them ready to face whomever they play in round one of the NCAA tourney. I hope that we aren't a #5 seed because there is always one or two #12 seeds that send #5s home early. Wouldn't put it past the NCAA committee to put us up against Penn State by round two.
Revenge will be sweet in Happy Valley.
PSU loses 8 defensive starters and McSorley will be exposed for an undersized, avg speed QB without All everything Barkley in his backfield being double teamed. JK and M Webb should run for over 250 yards!
Are you going to start that crap again? You look foolish every time. They will be a top 15 team to start the season and the whiteout will be tough. They have better talent all the way around than they have had in a good while.
Please save your insults for your loved ones.
How about you do some research on your own. Go to any PSU msg board, even loyal PSU fans self admit that 2019 is their year, NOT 2018. PSU loses 3-4 this year.
Why do you even care?
Because you pop up everywhere with ridiculous statements. I ignore 99% of them like most do but it does wear on a person. Let us review some of last years. PSU is not a top 5 regular season game. The game will be over at half time. We will win by at least 4TDs.PSU lost so many players they will struggle to be .500. Their QB is overrated and Barkley is also. They have no defense(which was rated one of the best in the country). I do look around the BIG at our opponents and the biggest concern is them losing 3 top assistance not the talent because it's been going up every year and they got some key injuries back on defense. Their depth is much better than previous years. It will be a nail biter once again.
What’s it to you? You have no friends at PSU msg boards?
PSU only beats tOSU once every 5 years in football. Franklin is the worst coach vs ap top 25 of all fbs coaches and hasn’t yet beaten a top 25 team on the road.
You mistake honest opinion in contrast to baseless assumptions. I hate PSU almost as much as UM but Franklin is turning things around there in an almost impossible situation he was left with(unlike JH at UM who had everything going for him). His recruiting classes and recent success on the field proves you wrong. They have beaten us on the recruiting trail almost as much as we have beaten them and have played us as an equal on the field in recent years. Along with possibly MSU the PSU game will decide the east once again and most likely for years to come. I find PSU fans the worst in the nation. I guess I'm just going to look at you as an excited OSU fan who loves his team and drop the rest.
Please take your PSU banter to a different Msg board. This is a Buckeye msg board.
PSU only beats tOSU once every 5 years, go look it up. It took tOSU making the 2 worst bonehead b2b special teams mistakes for Franklin to win. and even tOSU dominated the first 56 min of that game and I mean DOMINATED.
Last year was PSU's year and tOSU still won. PSU replaces 8 D starters and loses all its talent on Offense. Watch, McSorley isnt that good w.o #1 TE and #1 RB in draft and losing Moorehead.
Franklin is the worst active FBS coach vs AP top 25 and hasnt won on road v Top 25. I honestly love Franklin at PSU, he is a cheerleader, not a coach.
Franklin only had a good class because kids would start right away due to all the players leaving.
PSU loses 3-4 games this year. Mark it down. You sound like another jelly PSU fan.
You are pathetic. Mark it down is a kids response but I'm not surprised waiting until you think I won't respond is also pathetic you coward. Franklin won the BIG in his second year and almost pulled it off last year and has played us tough in every game with him at the helm. So your argument holds no mud.You have no basis to any of your posts but just spouting off. Losing all it's talent is yet another dumb statement. They will be much improved on the oline and have two very very very good RBs returning not counting an excellent one coming in. They have three very good receivers and the nations #1 recruit coming along with two good TEs so that statement hold no mud either. Another reason you are a punk is the repeated reasons we lost at PSU. Those are football plays we got beat on and not iffies like you like to play. You sound like just plain jelly little bitch. Why don't you shut up and stop embarrassing yourself or come up with real facts.
Carr didn't beat us - we beat ourselves. Long stretches where it was obvious they went after it harder than we did, especially on rebounds and loose balls. Missing the front end of 1-1 free throws at least 3 times in the last 3 minutes, up 4 and with the ball with a minute or so to play and can't get a good shot. Some calls were a bit head scratching too but we should have won the game.
On the bright side, who would have ever thought we could be complaining about this team, this year! Go Bucks.
As Titus predicted, "Tony Carr ripped Ohio State's asshole open for the third straight time."
Not "literally," right?
For some reason in this game the Bucks returned to last year's team form. Selfishness, bad free throw shooting, poor coaching adjustments, lack of ball movement. We should have been in control from start to finish. PSU was down one starter. OSU never took advantage of this missing piece. SMH. COY???
This Is A Journey!
Also for the second year in a row Freaking Rutgers played more games in the Big Ten Tournament than OSU. Amazing. One and Done.
Seems Coach Holtman has an issue with late game adjustments.
Never should have had Andrew D in the game in the last minute. He rarely played down the stretch in previous games when the game score was close. Andrew should have went to coach and took himself out of the game.
That what a smart unselfish player would have done. Was Andrew D going to do to stop Carr from making a play?
CJ knew this that's why he was trying help Andrew D. Which made CJ not see his man cutting down the lane for the dunk.
Not only that but one of the YES MAN assistant coaches should have questioned why are we saving Tate here on the bench?
Too many coaching missteps to pull this one out. There is no trust in teammates. KBD continues to draw double team and triple team coverage he but refuses to find the open man.
The concept of the drive and dish never seems to be an option meanwhile PSU used this to beat OSU three straight times within weeks. The low post feed to Wesson and a pass out to open shooter and repost is never an option.
But other teams use this against OSU all the time. This was just bad coaching. Holtman has issues with closely contested games as well. COY?
NONE and done, a non-basketball view, I watched all 3 games against PSU, and all 3 could have been won, WELL 2 anyway, they had the better team but zero defense, this team will not go far in the tourney, another NONE and done ! NOT one of the guys on the court was thinking about what was better for the team, rather what they could do for themselves, this is not a sign of a good team ! I am not impressed by Holtman as a coach........ SO BASKETBUCKS ! MAKE ME A LIAR, WOULD LOVE NOTHING BETTER.
Frustrated, but I'm still a fan. I think it could be true that Holtmann out-coached himself last night. But, whatever. Let's win a couple in the NCAA tourney and finish 26-9 or so, top 25 team. I'll take it. Amp up the recruiting. Some 5star point guard has to look at OSU and think, man, i can go in there and start and lead the team.
Next year we'll have more Potter, both Wessons, Jallow will be a year along, should be interesting. still need some guards.
AND..........Tony Carr against Purdue is 4/18 FGs, 1/6 3 pointers, 3/6 FT, and 12 points total. Sigh.....

Why they let PSU run the clock down and get the last play I can't understand. They should've fouled Carr right away and put him on the line (he was 3-5 for the night). Whether he missed any free throws or made them all, at least we would've been able to run the last offensive play for the game and had a shot to win it. Carr lives for those last second plays and we just played right into his hands. Let's hope for a good run in the really tournament! Go Bucks!
