Weren’t we looking at a QB from that state up north at one time?
You're probably thinking of 3-star dual-threat Dwan Mathis, who had been previously committed to Iowa State and is now committed to Michigan State. But he was never offered by OSU.

Thanks. Must have been. Or I thought Dobbs was a QB. Either way, I was wrong. And probably a food thing. We should just take their top 1 or 2 every year and not dirty the roster with the rest.
I forgot about Walled Lake (MI) QB Sam Johnson. Ohio State's been flirting with him since he was a freshman but he doesn't have an offer.
Interesting to hear Barnett was on campus. Dantonio has freaked out in the past about MSU commits visiting other schools but maybe he's figuring out thats a bit more difficult to do with a top 100 prospect.
Sounds like it's a team trip thing, ala what Ted Ginn Sr. used to do when he'd pile a bunch of Cleveland kids in a bus and take them to camps around the Midwest. Belleville had a bunch of kids in Cleveland.
And with the Nassar stinch lingering around the university...
Safe to say Greg Schiano has earned his way.
I had to run away high, so I wouldn't come home low...
Any idea why Gunnell didn’t just commit to Arkansas the first time around? If the family pull is so strong there, I wouldn’t think having Bert as the coach would matter that much. And Morris hasn’t proven a thing there yet.
Fields of Dreams
That's why I feel like we at least have a shot. We'll lose the proximity battle, but there's a reason he chose ATM over ARK. Maybe Columbus, the Shoe, and the coaches will wow him.

Because Bert’s offense is poor one one for QB development and the program was a dumpster fire? New coach renews hope.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
He obviously didn't want to play in Bielema's offense, Morris is a typical Texas spread-jockey. He also might have liked Sumlin +proximity more than Arky in and of itself.
Texas A&M have had two QB’s drafted in the first round in the last five years. Arkansas have had a fourth round and a sixth round during that same time. Could be a factor.
Texas QB John Steven Jones, Jerry Jones' grandson, also a member of the 1964 Natl Champ just signed with AR. TX high school coaches hated Bielema so not surprised with the renewed interest with the new coach who has deep TX roots.
WB pass it back!
Rhetorical question but who liked Bielema? Besides maybe Jen...and she's been conveniently incognito lately.
I live in Northwest Arkansas and good folks down here. For some reason they really rallied behind Bert. Probably because Petrino was a train wreck and Bert looks like the mascot.
Funny you mention it...I always thought he looked like the mascot as well, which was part of his charm. Also bound him to the school for life because where else is he going to be able to coach now? Can’t thibk of another school mascot that he resembles, but I’m open to suggestions.
Surprised they want someone that old. And that he has any eligibility left.

He still has a cannon though!

DEPARTMENT OF CONVERTING WEAKNESS TO STRENGTH
OFFICE OF Like A FAMILY
Perhaps Gunnell's strong family... could use a brotherly leader to show them how and why to aim high, in order to go far, in order to set a example like millions of immigrant sons and daughters did... back in the day when parents sacrificed mightily their whole lives to provide their children with an 'education'.
There's no doubt in my mind Schianio is the 2nd best coach at Ohio State. He recruited the only top 25 class in Rutgers' history. Keeping him for one more year basically guarantees another top 3 class.
Yea, I like Zach Smith and Stud, but no way did they recruit better than LJ Sr. this year. Now if stud can bring home Nester, Dobbs and the big OT from WV, then he's worthy of top 5 next year.
Gunnell and Martell on his visit
If the QB selects Arkansas, he deserves a career with disappointment.
The 5 star OL - Dobbs - looks amazing. Make him a top priority.
Barnett is said to run a 4.4 at the 40' dash. Nice speed for the combo CB / WR.
If he chooses to go to a school he's familiar with, where his family has all gone, he deserves a disappointing career? Yeah okay.
Buck in Fl - “deserving a career with disappointment” is childish!!!
Said because I believe Arkansas is probably equal to Indiana and while some years are better than others... The championship level will probably not be seen.
You said he deserves a disappointing career.
Mr. Dobbs looks completely done with someone's bullshit.
On his visit to East Lansing, Dantonio told him to smile more.
That pics says a thousand words.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Dobbs may feel differently about MSU when the hammer smashes down on the coaches and school. If it's as bad as they say then there may be a "death penalty" for football and/or basketball. Sad situation all around
BigBuckeye says Go Bucks
After the NCAA backtrack on Penn State? Nah.
If LJ is the 25th ranked recruiter in the country, those rankings no longer mean anything to me.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Can you see it coming up in his review?
"LJ, you're only 25th in the country. You're going to have to step it up."
"Sure, Urban (chuckles), whatever you say."
Sgt Al Matthews as GySgt Al Apone
Can we just move Smith to recruiter only, and hire someone who CAN coach wide receivers?
Tell that to all the receivers he sent to the NFL. He coaches exactly like Urban wants him to. Run blocking first and foremost. Once timing routes are thrown on time and accurately on a consistent basis then the other will follow. We were a run heavy offense by design. Even our o-line was much better at run blocking than pass.
I'm a little shocked to see how low Larry Johnson was in the recruiting rankings, especially coming off such a big time haul on the DL. Togai, Jackson, and Vincent alone should have had him ranked higher. I'm even impressed with who he didn't get, though I realize that doesn't matter, but the mere fact they almost got Cox was impressive, considering they were the only school that wasn't from the South that he considered.
