Four-star 2021 offensive tackle Ben Christman commits to Ohio State.
The sky is the limit
Ohio State men's basketball has returned as a contender in the national landscape.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
Consider how far ahead of schedule they are to even ask this question! They are ranked #8, have beaten two top 5 teams, and this is Basketball where 11 seeds have made the Final 4. So Yes! Enjoy the ride and Beat Penn State!
ONE Not Done!
If they are contenders, they gotta be consistent enough on both offense and defense to beat the Nittany Lions.
One. Game. At. A. Time.
Go Buckeyes! Beat Penn State!
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Varys: I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.
Tyrion: A wedding.
Exactly. They are the one team that this year's "national contenders" believe they can easily beat BUT also the team that scares the jock-straps off all of them.,
It seems as though there are about 15 contenders for the crown this year. And the Bucks are one of them.
They will have a chance. Does that equal contender ? I don't think so. Anything is possible and that's all you can ask for at this point. In 12 months... watch out.
you might be right about next year. I keep getting the feeling that next year will be more of a rebuilding year than this year with the loss of the key experienced guys. I would qualify that by saying that if for some reason that Bates-Diop returns next year, then yes,...watch out.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
It feels like this team will excel during the regular season and hit a road bump in the tourney. That would not change how impressed I am with this group of players.
I started to say no. However, if the rest of the country considers Purdue and Michigan State contenders, then I see no reason why they're not considering they handled their business against both of them! Go Bucks!
They have to be considered a contender with wins over MSU and Purdue on the road. There are more contenders this year than most because no one has created any separation at the top of the polls. This year's NCAA tourney could be a fun one. My son graduates from Army basic training on the first Friday of the tournament so I'll be missing a lot of the excitement......but I think that earns an 'excused absence'.
The pain of discipline or the pain of regret, take your pick
Definitely an excused absence. Congratulations to both you and your son! And thank him for me for his service!
Will do! He is in the Army ROTC at UC and is fulfilling his commitment to the Army National Guard by taking this semester off to go to basic. He intends to go active duty after graduation........it's always been his desire to serve in the military. My lack of military service is my biggest regret. I love how our attitude as a nation has changed for the better in the way we treat our servicemen and women.
Where did he do his basic at?
Fort Sill, Oklahoma. I think I might detour to Norman on my way there and plant a flag :)
It's hard to say. It seems a few pieces are still missing. I still watch every game!
"I think Alabama would beat Ohio State if they played next weekend!" Clay Travis Fox Sports Post Championship Show 1.12.2015. Needs no explanation.
The only thing that would make us a title contender seem plausible is the fact there really are no super dominant teams this season. OSU has already beaten 2 Top 5 teams including a No. 1. I know UNC and Gonzaga beat us pretty good this year but that was then. It would be fun to see how we'd do in late March against them.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
This is, and will be, a very dangerous team, much more so than they were in December and January. Why? They believe that they are, and that can take a team a LONG way.
The only thing that's new in the world is the history that we have forgotten.
we have already beaten 2 top FIVE teams WHY NOT ?
Period - End of story for me !!
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
College basketball is a complete mess this year, and for that reason I think just about anyone in the Top 25 has a legitimate shot including Ohio State. There really isn't a single team that really blows you away with the eye test this season.
I'm going with a "Sure, why not?" mindset. They don't quite have the talent level of the top teams, but it seems that the team as a whole is playing at a high level so, sure, why not?
I once handed Archie Griffin the keys to his loaner car.
We have improved a lot since OOC play but I'm still not completely sold on the team being a contender. I don't follow too closely but I do think the B1G is down this year. Like others have said above though, it is college basketball where 11 seeds can make the Final Four and an 8 seed have won it before.
"I'm not going to lie. We're anxious to be a part of a matchup like that. It's two states that love the game of football." -Jim Tressel
I voted yes as I am not convinced that this team has revealed its full potential. The NCAA field appears to be level loaded in the top ten helps. GO BUCKS!
Buy the ticket take the ride.
Yes. College basketball is all about momentum. OSU has it in spades right now.
There is no really great team this year. Just sayin', if St. John's can beat Duke and Villanova, then there's no limit to what OSU could do.
Class of 2010.
Even though I am in possession of a 100-1 bet for the buckeyes to win it all, I said no. This was because my expectations will remain grounded and I won't be disappointed if we don't win. Plus it bothers me to see the expectations placed on the football team and would hate to see it happen to hoops also where winning the conference and making the sweet 16 (or winning your bowl game) is somehow seen as a failure.
I bleed scarlet...literally
The basketball team is playing loose and confident. With this group, I expect that to continue. We will see...
I hope you win your bet.
This team is playing GRRRRREAT (in my tony the tiger voice). I hope they keep it up and don't get too tight when the pressure is on. I don't anticipate getting through the B1G tourney, which may be a good thing, but I do expect to make it out of the first weekend. Anything after that is house money to me.
I'd say yes. They did beat Purdue and Michigan State. Got handled by Gongzaga early in the season when the team was trying find their identity with a new coaching staff. I'd guess if OSU played them again it would be more of a competitive game....so why not National Contender? If your number 8 in the country you are now a #2 seed. With a little tournament luck, who knows.
I said yes, because there are no elite teams this year. The constant losses by the Top 10 proves that.
You need to be humble or you will get humbled. - Jocko Willink
I voted no, then came here to comment, and kind of changed my mind.
If we get the right draw and some good matchups then anything is possible.
He ain't even stretch doe!!
I'm all in for a yes. Coach Holtmann has taken a predicted #11 to currently #1 in conference play...they haven't peaked or reached whatever their ceiling is, imo.
What makes for a "Cinderella" ?
contender in what way? I think OSU b-ball is relevant again. does that make them a 'contender' to win the NC this year? probably not, but I think Holtmann and crew have them on track to be in the conversation again every year...
16-2 is SWEET!
Voted with my heart not my head because my head has been wrong all year.
First and goal at the five and Arch is getting the ball.
Yes. They are playing very well and there is no elite team. There are nearly 15-20 teams that could win the championship this season.
This team has heart, urgency and plays their best down the stretch in close games. When tournament time comes, I think they are a good bet to make the Sweet 16 and from there anything can happen. Get the right match-ups and you just never know.
What a dream season to even be talking like this. I am so happy for a guy like JT to be gunning for a Big Ten title and maybe more and getting the respect that he has earned. As for KBD, he's just ridiculous right now. Would you bet against him if your team needed a shot made at the end?
You've got barbecue back there?
I said yes. If you consider Michigan State a contender, the got ran out of the gym by this Buckeyes squad. If you consider Purdue a contender, they had this team on the ropes, down 14 in the second half in a hostile environment, but the Bucks fought back and took that game too. While they may not win it all, they certainly can't be overlooked. I think that makes them a contender.
A lot of the tourney. This isn't NBA where you play BO7 series or the NFL where the better team still usually wins that 1 game. All it takes is some good matchups, and a cold shooting night for the better teams the deeper we get into the tourney. Do I believe this is a top 5 team? No. But are they a darkhorse team? sure.
A lot of the tourney is luck*
No I don't think any B1G team is a contender this year
The tourney is weird, man. KBD has the skill set that can take over a game and make the surrounding cast a bit of a nonfactor so if you ride that hot hand, you could sitting in the field of 16 or 8 and not really sure how you got there.
This has been a hell of a ride either way.
Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.
Not a final 4 contender IMHO. To be clear and obvious, this year's Basketbucks have been a joy to watch and made the winter more bearable if that is possible. Exceeded expectations? Check. A good shot to make the Sweet 16? Check. Beyond that? Too many limitations to this team. If Wesson and Potter can avoid foul trouble and KBD can score 20 points per game, they will be a tough out for sure. But on any given night if the bigs get early fouls and if KBD has an off night, they could be in trouble early. Regardless, it'll be fun to watch.
I’ve been enjoying the ride this season and have viewed them as an overachiever in a weaker than normal B1G. I’m hoping they can get on a roll and run deep into the tourney, but I honestly don’t expect it.
Of course we are - I honestly don't see an argument out there that would change my mind.
I said yes.. March Madness is almost ALWAYS about one player on a team that elevates that team through the bracket. KBD can be that guy.
Im surprised they made it this far, so nothing will surprise me if they make the final four. If KBD is playing well, this team can beat anyone.
If i could change my username, i would
Every team is a contender... until it's not. Some teams just get there ("not") a lot sooner than others. I'm pulling for the Buckeyes to keep on contending for quite some time.
