So this is a "report" based on speculative observation from another NBA exec. I don't mean to poop on the parade, but this is really nothing anyone couldn't have surmised.
My point is that when I read the headline, I expected that there would be a quote from "someone close to LeBron" or something like that. This is just a dude guessing like everyone else.
You're right that this is shaky.
Though, LeBron did say he was in Cleveland for the long haul the other day...and that was before the trades.
...but I guess you can't trust the guy that's pulling all the strings behind the scenes.
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
Even if it did come from a source close to LeBron, it still wouldn't matter. Those people never leak anything meaningful, which prevents anyone - even the seemingly psychic Woj or the very well-connected Windhorst - from getting much of a read on his intentions.
So you could get something from a source close to LeBron, but they'd almost certainly be lying.
So one guy thought he might leave, now that guy thinks he might not? This...doesn't feel like news.
Lebron hasn't made up his mind yet, and no one is going to truly know until after the Cavs season is over. I think he'll probably wait and see what the Cavs do with that Brooklyn pick before he makes his final decision.
I spoke with an NBA executive today and he said there is a 50-50 chance Keita Bates-Diop declares for the draft: My Column
I saw the Mock Draft scroll by on Espn and they have KBD going to Boston late in the First Round.
Fields of Dreams
That would be glorious. Add another wing to a nice stable of young players. As a Celtics fan, I would be very happy with that and getting Hayward back.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Not to pile on here, but LeBron has made it clear over the years that the only one who knows what LeBron is going to do is LeBron. It's all reckless speculation, and no one has a clue.
Priority #1: Beat Michigan
Not to pile on here
You new here or something?
The one big issue is that he and Gilbert don't speak, and I thought I read that he and Altmann don't either, which is odd. No fanbase will ever love him as much as Cleveland, though, which is why I never was convinced that he'd leave again.
A man got to have a code...
Altman was quoted that he discussed all these trade deadline deals with lebron. So I doubt that is true. Now Gilbert, hell I wouldn't speak to him either.
I honestly think he is going to stay now with how we improved the roster, and the fact that we still have the Brooklyn pick to add another potential star player through the draft or trade for a star during the offseason. However, all these reports about what he is going to do don't really mean much. As Baroclinicity already said, only Lebron knows what he is going to do.
LeBron's a headcase.
Lifetime vs. UM: L 8-1, C 7-0, T 4-0
I'll take my team going to the finals every year and having a chance to win a championship because of Lebron than care about some people on the internet who think he is a headcase.
"Tina, you fat lard, come get some DINNER!... Tina, eat. Food. Eat the FOOD!"
Come on dude. You know he's nuts.
One of the greatest ever. But crazy as hell.
Egomaniac, yes. Crazy, no. The man has built a major brand, set for life after basketball, already has multiple ventures outside basketball, is friends with people like Warren Buffet. If that is crazy as hell sign me up.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
I like James off the court. I like the way he speaks out on issues and stands up for things he believes in.
But on the court he is a drama queen that pouts until he gets his way. He holds franchises hostage and when things get tough he becomes disinterested and a bad teammate.
he becomes disinterested and a bad teammate
Yep. Kind of loco.
Not at all. Lebron is straight up a great dude off the court. A little too dramatic? Yes. Passive-Aggressive tendencies? Sure. But not even close to crazy and definitely a guy that most people want to play with.
If LeBron is "crazy as hell" does that make MJ "a fking psycopath"?
Who cares about getting to the finals if you can't win it...which they cannot again this year
Lame as hell attitude. No one thought they could beat a 73-win GS team either. Crazy stuff happens in sports. I would always want my team in the finals and to have a shot at the trophy no matter what the outcome is.
So the Patriots (whom I despise) should have tanked this year.............
As a Cleveland sports fan, I can attest to making and losing the finals (Cavs & Indians) being way more enjoyable than coming nowhere close (Browns).
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
And so was Jordan, Kobe... Find me an NBA superstar that isn’t a piece of work. The guy is a good Dad and gives back to his community. Go after somebody else.
Lots of Michigan Men to choose from.
Like this guy?
Gilbert is a real headcase.
Working on your down vote totals are you? My wife works for channel 5 says he's paranoid as heck and will clear out an area for his own in the place he works out at, but how can you call a guy who does so much for the community a headcase?
Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, its a war room
Not really. He made a fool of himself w/ The Decision b/c he wanted to give his buddies a handout producing the mess for their "Event Planning' company, but I don't blame him for going to Miami. He came back to Cleveland and gave the city a title, so he is good on that front.
A big reason why the speculation on him staying has risen is b/c the Lakers are suddenly looking a lot less attractive/viable as a FA destination for Lebron. Rumors out of OKC have Paul George leaning towards resigning and rolling w/ Westbrook, and the Lakers, right now, are simply a hot mess, even if Isaiah Thomas doesn't resign w/ them (I can't see LeBron going to team up w/ HIM again). I guess George could go home and LeBron could go West, but pairing them up w/ another top FA-Demarcus Cousins coming off a serious injury-I don't think so.
I’m going ahead and assuming that he leaves again. He and Gilbert despise each other. I don’t think he trusts the front office, and he also has put them in a bind in regards to payroll flexibility and the luxury tax. IMO, Gilbert wants LeBron gone anyway.
Deep down, I obviously hope he stays with the Cavs until he retires, and is able to at least tie Kobe with 5 rings. However, I’ll keep assuming that he’s leaving so that if he stays it comes as a shocking surprise.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
If LeBron leaves the value of the Cavs will drop and Gilbert stands to lose a metric ass ton of money.
Good I hope he loses all of the money he made off giving people predatory mortgages
LeBron prefers to play with guys he likes...so obvious from his demeanor. They go to the finals this year and give the warriors (Rockets?) a run for their money. He will be back. He is more like Magic than Kobe or MJ...he wants to facilitate...now he is surrounded by scorers.
‘Bron does what he does...five guys chucking threes and TT and LN jr to take care of the boards and dirty work...receipt for success.
If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.
I think he resigns, but it will be a 2 year deal with a player option for year 2 to keep the pressure on the organization
“Life has two rules: #1 Never quit #2 Always remember rule #1 http://i.imgur.com/fSNzSap.gifv
not to be a grammar nazi here but there is a difference between re-signs and resigns, but I get where you are coming from
English is fun. I especially like it when that little dash means the difference between the positive and negative meaning.
Pain of Discipline
Pain of Regret
Take Your Pick
See they're, their and there or loose and lose.....just drives me crazy
The Oxford Comma is what drives me nuts:
Hoping to see a big win at OKC tomorrow. Anthony is a ? but the rest will play. Payback after their visit to the "Q".
Don't think they cleared Westbrook yet but I really hope he can play.
He'd be crazy to leave with a top 5 franchise player coming in next year to join all the young talent the Cavs have. To go to a team in the West to battle the Warriors doesn't make sense. Who in the East could he join, maybe Philly?
I think people are missing the point of why the Cavs made the deals they did. Short term yes it was to try to win, make "King" James happy and try to entice him to stay...but that roster as it stands now will not beat GS 4 times in 10 days. So congrats if you get to another finals and lose. If that is the Cavs and Cav fans end game, then mission accomplished.
It was made long term to leave the Cavs with something they can build around when he leaves. They took a big tax hit taking on Clarkson and added salary. But at least they have some younger guys in Hood, Nance, Clarkson and maybe Hill along with Cedi and the Nets pick. So they can stay somewhat alive while they rebuild.
Golden State has to get through the West first.
It must suck to be that kind of fan. If you are one. Would I be pissed if they go to finals and lose 4-0? Hell yeah, but I'd much rather get there and lose than not at all. Especially if that means we lose to Boston in ECF and their miserable, arrogant fans.
Especially if that means we lose to Boston in ECF and their miserable, arrogant fans.
Sitting in Hartford, CT, I can attest to the description of the fanbase. Been a fun couple weeks after the SuperBowl and the Cavs bitch slapping the Celtics at the Garden, but as soon as the Celtics win another game they'll be back to their delusions.
No not really. Boston has really overachieved this year without Hayward. I think they can win the East but don't feel like they have enough offense to do so at this time.
Cavs won Sunday. Congrats. Hang a banner and plan the parade.

You are welcome to move your desk next to mine, all I've heard since the Celtics took the 1 seed last year is that the Cavs/Lebron are/is overrated. They seem to be the least delusional about the Celtics too, any time the Patriots/Red sox/Bruins come up it gets nauseating here.
I can attest to your attestation of the Boston fan base CT.
Well I am a Celtics fan so whatever floats your boat. Some of the worst fans I know are Cavs fans. Every fanbase has them.
As for the Cavs beating Boston sunday...congrats. It happens. Cavs played great. Boston did not. Cavs blew out Boston this season and Boston blew the Cavs out. It is Feb. A lot left to go.
I am just saying that it seems quite a few Cavs fans are happy just getting to the finals only to lose. They point the fact LBJ has been to so many in a row as a badge of honor even though he has lost more than he has won.
The Boston Celtics just hung a banner for a man that got them to TWO finals in his entire career and ONLY WON one. The Celtics who are one of the most prestigious franchises in the NBA. Wouldn’t you rather have them lost in the finals instead of losing to Miami and Orlando in the ECF back then?
LBJ has won more than in three years than Pierce ever did in Boston, and he is treated as an all-time great by a franchise that has 17 titles. LBJ winning the East every year is an accomplishment, and if he played in Boston or LA, the media would recognize it.
Jordan went to 13 playoffs and only won 6 rings... should we not celebrate that achievement because he ended the year with a loss more often than not?
While the above statement is a bit of an exaggeration compared to the LeBron argument you tried to make, you're absolutely kidding yourself if you wouldn't trade LeBron's last 7 years for any team in the NBA not named Golden State. It's laughable you think 7 consecutive finals appearances doesn't warrant a "badge of honor." He's, at the absolute worst, the 2nd best player of all time.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Says the fan who would rather not be good enough to make a championship than make it and lose.
I should have said, “miserable, arrogant and spoiled Boston fans..”
So they can stay somewhat alive while they rebuild.
Should Lebron leave, this is actually worst case scenario. The Cavs 2019 pick belongs to Atlanta, but is top 10 protected, If Lebron leaves, Cleveland needs to hope they have a top 10 pick in 2019 or they'll be hurting big time come the 2019-2020 season.
Now what am I supposed to do with that pile of Lebron jerseys I was ready to burn?
Seems like a good premise for a Tide commercial.
Tide commercial? Sounds delicious!
A reporter I've never heard of quotes an anonymous source who gives a lukewarm assessment on LeBron's future, then packages it with a stronger, misleading and click bait headline.
Color me shocked, even though unlike ESPiN articles, this is actually pro-Cleveland.
Report: Lebron is looking to buy a Unicorn
"Let me quote the late great Cornel Sanders, I'm to drunk to taste this chicken"
Yipee. He's a cancer to the team also.
He is the team also.
- OSU ISE -- Fight on, Calpoppy! -+- DJ won a bet -+- Premium Banter -- OH48 80k -
What if the team was the cancer and Lebron was the cure?
Crappy team then.
If he stays it'll be a 2 year deal with a player option for the 2nd year. I think this all really depends on how the cavs finish this year. If they can get to the finals again he's staying. They'll add a nice piece with the Nets pick and James will be in a much better situation to win another title in Cleveland than anywhere else outside of Golden State
Can't we just enjoy the rest of the season??
My gut tells me he's gone, and I get it. I don't hold anything of that nature against any player, especially one that single handidly was the difference between winning a title and not.
Lebron did what he wanted to do here, so if he chose to leave I would be at peace with it.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
NBA teams are going to have a major salary crunch next year and potentially moving forward. Already have seen a guy like Lou Williams take a deal worth WAY less than he would have been paid the past few years because the money won't be out there for contracts next season. Point being unless LeBron is going to take a MASSIVE pay cut or some team is going to shred the roster I just don't see many places he could actually go and that make sense. Let's say he can make the same money on the Cavs as he could on the Lakers. Why would he go to the Lakers? West is beast and that team isn't close. I don't know how a team like the Rockets could afford him and keep that roster. Philly is a better version of the Lakers. Bunch of young dudes with zero playoff experience... and still not sure how LeBron and Simmons make sense on the same team.. People have said San Antonio but they tried to move Aldridge and there are reports Leonard might want out because they can't attract free agents... I'm just not sure there's a better option than Cleveland... and the moves Cleveland made make it an even better option..
LeBron can resign in Cleveland and they can hope BKN keeps losing and that pick becomes gold...
If teams like the Rockets want to sign Lebron they will have to gut the roster. Teams will make room to fit him if he chooses but I expect him to stay and finish out here. I imagine he will lock up a final lengthy contract now so we won’t have anymore future drama. Then it will just be watching Father Time creep in over his final years.
What a career and so glad he is from Ohio.
This post is leasable space for this dude right here BeatTTUN
This is 21st media/reporting Summarized. Literally no basis at all just reporting opinions of anonymous sources. Lebron lobbied for the roster that wasnt working. Suggesting he wanted out of town because of guys he brought in is just so lazy its a sad testament for what gets reported as news.
I sure get tired of seeing or hearing talk about where will Lebron go. Nothing against this thread but constantly reading or hearing about Lebron is gone or Lebron to the Lakers is so annoying.
I echo Sword52's comment. It gets old. Until this trade, I was telling buddies I am fine with him leaving. After watching the last two games with his new teammates, he would be foolish to leave for basketball reasons. That being said, it seems LeBron has a brand to develop so that plays a pretty big factor in his decision.
Regarding destinations and fits. How in the hell does anyone think LeBron would fit with HOU. Harden and LeBron would hate playing with each other and it doesn't fit either of their styles. Both need the ball in their hands way too much. This is why Isaiah Thomas wasn't going to work out. Players like Harden, Westbrook, LeBron, IT, need the ball all the time. It isn't going to help LeBron's brand, in his mind, to have all the highlights showing Harden dribbling around for 20 seconds each time up the floor.
If anyone hasn't noticed, Lebron is quite emotional and can pretty much swing from one end of the spectrum to the other fairly quickly. These titles change on an almost weekly basis.
If you take everything I’ve accomplished in my life and condense it down to one day, it looks decent!
Will be interesting to be on Lebron watch these next few months. One thing to watch if we want to drive ourselves crazy is how much, if at all, Lebron talks about prospects in college like the kid from Oklahoma. If he appears to take an interest in who the Cavs may be drafting that could be a good sign. With that being said he talked about the UCONN PG for a month or two so the Heat drafted him and then Lebron left so....
I have learned over the years to ignore every story about LeBron unless I hear an interview from him and he is actually speaking. Writers and media love to speculate about anything and everything about LeBron. And he has never ever said personally what his plans are for next year. But, the media has him going to about every contending team in the league. My advice to all Cavs fans is to take a deep breath and just wait and see what happens. If he stays, then be happy. If he leaves, don't blame him or the Cavs. In short, enjoy these last few months of the year knowing that you are watching a player who is one of the greatest in NBA history.
