New coach needed.
It will be interesting to see what he can do without a superstar when Kelsey graduates. Hopefully he can find another to replace her. I don't know if this is serious or facetious but I don't see a reason to pull the trigger on McGuff just yet. Although I will say at times he uses his time outs in curious ways. For example today late in the 3Q we hit a 3 with about 1:30 to go that cut the lead to 11 or 12, and he called time out, and it was his next to last one. WTF? USF promptly regrouped and scored not eh next 3 possessions to extend their lead. And when the team came out of the time out he had to yell and wave to get them into position for the press. What did he talk about during the time out?
A new coach is definitely needed. This year was McGuff’s last chance. Next year we lose 5 of our top 6 players and add 2 new ones, neither of whom are great. Then there’s the effect of not recruiting anyone last year and 2 of the 3 players in the 2016 class transferring. Our best players will probably be Calhoun, Waterman, and Caretti. We may very well be the worst team in the Big Ten.
How are things on the recruiting trail. I believe they have several commits for next year. Maybe they change their minds if there is a change or a whiff of it. Me personally, it's time to make a change.
Certainly a coincidence how "hot shooting" teams seem to match up against the OSU women so often.

The score is tough in itself, but that stat line is ugly top to bottom.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...

pounded by 20 on the boards
South Florida, who the hell are they? Going to be a short trip in the big dance.
They aren't chopped liver, especially in Tampa, but they shouldn't have beaten Ohio State like this.
All the hope there'd been for this program with all the 5* transfers in and 5* recruits, yet here we still are. Still not seeing the commitment to defense, and still seeing too little offensive cohesiveness and structure. Sadly, I've lost interest in the squad over the last month, and boy did I choose the wrong day to try and watch again. Something has to change.
Extremely frustrating. McGuff can certainly recruit top flight talent but he cannot coach 'em. As 92 said above, it'll be interesting to see how the team fares when Kelsey Mitchell graduates.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
Unfortunately this team has been overrated all season. Mitchell is unpredictable and to me she does not make her teammates better other than the attention other teams have to give her.
Game was ugly from the very start. At this rate they will be extremely fortunate to make the Sweet 16.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
We gave up 31 points in one quarter?
After the first quarter it was 31-13. Game over.
Besides Mitchell, we lose 3 other starters and Hart off the bench. What we are left with is 1 starter, very little off the bench and 3 incoming freshmen so far. It is not hard to imagine a bottom of the BIG next year.
It was so bad today I had to switch channels. It seems like the lady Bucks are going through what the men Bucks went through the last few years. May be time for a coaching change less we go through several years like the men's program did.
I do watch the Lady Bucks occasionally throughout the season and this one is no different than the others since McGuff took over. The defense is abysmal, horrible, sieve-like, an after thought. McGuff should be held more accountable by Gene Smith. I realize that women's basketball is not the most high profile program at OSU, but McGuff is paid beyond handsomely to do more than just recruit and roll the ball out there. We all enjoy watching Kelsey Mitchell score . She is one of the best players in OSU history , and probably the absolute best with the ball in her hands. Katie Smith and Tracy Hall were more all around players though.
Great players terrible leadership, terrible.
McGuff wins 20 games every year cause OSU plays in a historically mediocre BIG10 conference. When he plays top 25 teams outside of the BIG10 his team's get bounced. Big10 teams rarely make it to even the sweet 16. I think the last BIG10 NCAA champ was Purdue 13-15 years ago? Until the BIG10 improves overall McGuff sticks around (though Jim Foster got sent packing......after 10 years...I think Foster made it to one sweet 16?).

Even though Mitchell is a great player, I can't wait for her (and hopefully McGuff) to leave. This team zero adhesiveness, and if you watch KM during timeouts, she could care less what Coach or her teammates are saying. This team is a microcosm of our men's teams the last couple of years, and we saw what a change can do. I don't think we give McGuff another season if he doesn't make a DEEP run in the tournament--he had his chance with arguably one of the best players in the nation, and he couldn't get it done. Period.
I guarantee you next season you’ll be wishing she was still here.
I've seen this movie before, and I can guarantee you I won't.
Do you need to be reminded of where the program was before she got here? When she's gone it will be even worse. Without her they wouldn't even have made an NCAA Tournament.
