The Eleven Warriors Web Report Discusses Ryan Day's New Role and Ohio State Basketball's Continued Success

I liked the hoops win last night, but also thought that it was ugly enough that the team could watch the video in order to prepare for Penn State.  We had unforced turnovers that I could not believe.  Also, i believe the coaches will reinforce the need to shoot with confidence.  the shots will start falling.  When in doubt, take it to the rack and start with close range shots, but it will get there. The defense and rebounding will keep us in any game. I can see them losing 3 more games before the NCAAs, so with one win (and one loss) in the B1G tourney, that would make them 25 and 7.  Maybe a 6 seed in the tournament??

So nice to enjoy basketball season!!

The fatigue was evident in last nights game. This, to me, is what made me believe this team has the "it" factor to go far.... in terms of grind. Some of the unforced turnovers were definitely because of fatigue (no zip on the passing), while some lay by the Nebraska defense.

I loved the KBD started finding small creases inside to just lay it in.

Good news about Day as well. :)

A Perfect Circle

At this point, I think we could be looking at higher than a #6 seed, maybe a 3 or 4 as of right now.    All bets are off if we find a way to beat Purdue as well !  Optimism!!

As an OSU and Cleveland fan, who would've ever thought that I'd be much more excited about OSU basketball than the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018!  LOLOL!!!

Can't help but think maybe Day will be making the play calls. Seemed that Wilson called most of the plays this season and even late in the season you could see the frustration from JT and Urban that it was taking FOREVER to get calls into the game at times. We saw both in the team up north game and the game vs USC where Urban clearly said something along the lines of "get the damn call in faster" into the headset. Maybe this gets Day a raise and keeps him around but also helps us get plays called in a more timely fashion. Win win.

That isn't a product of Wilson, go back and watch our games from 2015-2017. Getting the call in on time has been a struggle for years now. I don't think putting another voice in the headset is a good idea. Urban already tried the co-OC experiment with Beck and Warriner and it was a failure. Just like then, we will have no idea who is actually calling the plays. Is it Wilson, the guy who has had amazing offenses everywhere he has been and didn't seem to have any issues with getting plays called in any of his previous stops or Day, or both? This screams of dysfunction to me, another situation where there are too many cooks in the kitchen like with happened with Beck/Warriner. I can't imagine Wilson is all too happy either, just what the hell did tOSU hire him for?

I agree but Wilson had the same problem. Whatever he did at past stops doesn't matter imo. Urban runs the show. Tom Herman didn't have the same problem. I'm not a fan of the Co_OC thing either but something has to give. I remember the B10 Championship game. Out of a timeout on about our 8 yard line and it took Wilson FOREVER to get the play in. You could see JT waiving his hand like "Come On".. finally got it in around 6-7 seconds to go on the clock...then a rushed sort scramble to get set... handoff to Weber... and fumble... that just doesn't make any sense. Even more so out of a time out.

What made Herman so good and others like him was the ability to be calling plays and thinking about plays 2-3 plays in advance. He call a play on first down already knowing what he would call on 2nd and 3rd if it was 3rd and short or 3rd and long.

We want to go uptempo but have been hamstrung here lately because we can't get plays in faster.

I don't pretend to know what the problem is.... overthinking? tempo too fast? knowledge of the playbook? too many cooks in the kitchen?

And to me OSU football is a business. Wilson was hired to run the offense. If he can't do that at the tempo the boss wants that's on him. I've got no problem with a solution that works for everyone and gets the right plays in more quickly...

Go Bucks!

While Bishop speculated at the possibility that Ohio State could be keeping Day in the fold with visions of him eventually succeeding Urban Meyer as head coach

This, in my opinion, is patently absurd. I admit that I've never been a fan of Beau Bishop, but connecting these dots is a reach, to say the least. Listen, I'm glad that Ryan Day decided to stay at Ohio State, but he seems to have gone from being a guy who coached quarterbacks in the NFL, to coaching quarterbacks and being second in command of a college offense, to the next big thing in football almost overnight. The distance between Ryan Day and the head football coaching job at a place like Ohio State would seem to be vast at this moment in time.

When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's

While I agree it's a bit of a reach don't think Day is as buried on that potential hire list as some might think. Heaven forbid Urban steps down anytime soon but if he did you would want to keep the train rolling. You have a system in place and would want someone who can just keep rolling in that system that knows how we do things. You wouldn't want to bring in someone who is going to do his thing and basically start over. They'd call Tom Herman and few others but Day would be on that list imo. Not near the top but on the list.

Fair points , it is saying a lot that urban thinks enough of this guy to keep him from an NFL OC job though. Right  now I’d say Day and Grinch are the top candidates for “Head coach in waiting” if urban were to rank them right now, also assuming that Schiano will likely get another job within a year or so.

I find it unlikely that OSU hires anyone without prior head coaching experience. Even Tommy Mensa Herman had to go to Houston for a couple years before getting the Texas job.

Interestingly enough, no one ever seems to be knocking down Zac Smith's door to hire him as an O.C.

I do not at all have the mind of a bully... in my mind bullies are intolerant of contrary opinion, domineering and rather cowardly.
