This team is so fun to watch right now! Great to see some excitement back in the Schott. Go Bucks!
Born a Buckeye, raised a Buckeye, will die a Buckeye.
B-Ry, it's been so fun during the football offseason to have BasketBucks killing it like this! Much much > last year.
It is so much fun to watch this team! I have been craving this level of competitiveness since 2012!
Focus on the D, and the 3 will come.
Yeah, I went to Dyersville last year and saw the Field Of Dreams. Still with me a bit.

Yesterday at Rutgers was a great example. Bucks absolutely shut them down!
it's been said before...but yea....this is a fun team to watch....I had this game on TV and the Blue Jackets game streaming on my Ipad....And i prefer hockey of basketball....fwiw
I am really looking forward to Ohio State basketball games now. I haven't said that for a number of years. That's the truth!
Gene Smith.....AD of the year.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
Is there a trophy for that?
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
I said it before...when Holtmann opened up practice before the PSU football game, I stopped in to see a few minutes before resuming drinking, and I thought just watching that practice that the kids had an intensity that hadn't been seen for a long time in that building. Keep it going fellas, a letdown is coming sooner or later and that's alright. But keep the edge. It's working.
I want to beleive this team is THAT talented, it's just hard to do after last year, and that the personnel hasn't changed that much. Regardless, I am thoroughly enjoying the show!
Thank the Maker that I was born in Ohio, cradle of coaches, US Presidents, confederate-stomping Generals, and home of The Ohio State University Football Buckeyes- 2014 UNDISPUTED National Champions!
"I think that has really been a key to our success, just being on a team where guys are unselfish. We enjoy playing with each other and just love each other on and off the court."
I think this says a ton between the lines. Going all the way back to DAR being here guys were getting called out for selfishness, lack or work ethic etc and the results were easily visible on the floor with Lyle, Loving and sometimes Thompson the last 2 years moping, bad body language, unwillingness to dive on the floor for the ball, lack of teamwork, hustle etc
I am sure Matta tried to get them to work together better, be motivated and at times even last year there would be flashes, where we would play a great team much tougher than expected or beat a Wisky by 10 etc, but far too often, the ugly side came back. So in the end as they were Matta's guys and he made his bed with them (especially after throwing his lost recruiting class under the bus the previous off season), he lost the team and hence far too many games
This team, whether motivated by their ranking, addition by subtraction, new blood/coaching staff etc, is a completely different team to watch and the results show even though on paper this may be a far less talented and experienced team than last years unit.
While he is pleased with the effort his team has shown recently, Holtmann said Thursday that is isn't realistic to expect his team will continue to hit shots from the outside at such a high percentage all season
Holtmann also said he loves the tear that KBD is on (in the last 3 games), but it is unrealistic to expect it to continue throughout the season.
Rather, he added his team will have to keep up its intensity on defense in order to maintain its momentum moving forward.
Yep. For those capable of noticing, the Buckeyes' success is mainly due to solid defense. The attention to detail on other things—blocking out & rebounding, valuing each possession, improved passing/receiving, better screening, unselfish play—have all contributed to their success. But holding teams without scoring for minutes upon minutes has been crucial to their success.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
"need to expect as a coaching staff is that we will have 40 minutes of better attention to detail and defensive focus about us."
Play hard for 40 minutes is the ticket......

Tate's statement says it all: "just being on a team where guys are unselfish. We enjoy playing with each other and just love each other on and off the court." Three essentials that have been missing the last two or three years. Kudos team!
No offense to Thad by any means, because I'm grateful for what he was able to accomplish during his tenure at tOSU, but this "We enjoy playing with each other and just love each other on and off the court" is something that I don't ever remember hearing any one of his guys say something like that..coach Holtman has brought this team some swagger, and it seems like he has taken a page from Urban Meyer with this brotherhood mentality.. exactly what this team needed!
Could easily be 16-2 With only losses to UNC and Saga. I think the team needed the adversity of Butler and Clemson to pull together. Lots of fun to watch
Have you ever seen a fierce animal who you were sure wouldn't bite? Because I haven't.
Painful as those losses were, they may need to have been experienced for the team to come together for what it's doing now.
Keep it going Bucks! you're fun to watch and play with great effort!!!
I'm looking at the tv schedule going, "Blue Jackets? No thanks. Cavs? Meh. OSU basketball? DVR it! Can't miss it!"
If you would have told me this one month ago, I would have laughed. No matter what happens the rest of the way, this run has been a blast.
You've got barbecue back there?
Oops double post
It’s amazing how motivated a team without loving can be....
Loving or loving?
Branch Rickey had a theory "addition by subtract"
This season has already far exceeded my expectations. I hope they can continue to ride this momentum for the remainder of the year - it will be interesting to see how it carries over in the upcoming road games.
Hard to believe at this point in the season that we only need four more wins to have more than we had all last year.
KBD is something special. Enjoy for another 3 months
Has anyone analyzed bench use this year versus previous years? I haven't researched it but it feels like Holtmann substitutes deeper and more frequently (he played 6 players off the bench against MD) and by keeping players fresh that would help in many ways. In the past Thad's teams would often play well early but fade late and I always felt fatigue due to short benches was a factor. The defense would be less intense, rebounds would start going to the other team, they would have sloppy turnovers and shots would fall short.
It's just a feeling on my part that I haven't done anything to prove but to this point it just seems that Holtmann has done an excellent job managing player time on court.
Good point but I can't stop saying to myself "put KBD back in" or "put so and so back in". Obviously that's why I'm watching from the cheap seats and Holtmann is in the front row. Still puzzled, though, why Kaleb sat so long at the end of the game. Not questioning Holtmann, just hoping he wasn't injured.
Matta believed in conditioning so a player could play efficiently for 30+ minutes. IIRC, when asked why his starters logged so many minutes, he replied to the effect that they were 18-22 years old, implying it wasn't a big deal for them.
I think he was not as quick to substitute when players were lagging, as other coaches might.
It seemed, as a result, that some players would try to conserve their energy through parts of the game, and that often showed up as somewhat less tenacious defense.
Who is Archie Miller again? ;)
I think most fans expected this season to be slightly better than last season....
Wonderful surprise so far, Team!
Onward and upward! Go Buckeyes!
I think most fans expected this season to be slightly better than last season....
Having KBD at full strength and health makes a huge difference.
Many here at 11W thought this season would be awful—some even predicting just 12 wins. All those who dismissed this season as a transition year without any hope of post-season play will probably not recall their negativity—as they giddily jump on bandwagon.
The physical talent was already at OSU. But now it’s combined with heart, good chemistry and teamwork, higher Hoops IQ and better effort.
I haven't been this excited about Buckeye basketball for years. Chris Holtmann has done one hell of a job changing the culture here. Glad we got him for 8 years.
"Because I couldn't go for 3."
