Such a tragedy. Alcohol alone is pretty high, then mixed with marijuana is not good. Great player, from all accounts great guy, tragedy it happened.

Don't be daft, cannabis is in the system up to 6 weeks, he was twice the limit on alcohol. But being high on top of that would be a slightly added dimension. I urge calling the cab after a couple whoever you may be.

You ever lost a loved one to a drunk driver? I have. I give a damn about driving under the influence. Its a good thing he only killes himself and didnt take innocent people with him

HS

+1. I've lost several friends and shipmates to drunk drivers; and they were passengers; getting into a car with a drunk was their first mistake. Several did not wear seat belts which was their last mistake.

Medically, he as just over the number the AMA declared as drunk (.15). That was now decades ago. Political pressure changed it, several times. And many "alcohol related deaths" are just that. Political. Shame, isn't it that something so serious would be used as a platform?

What about non alcohol related deaths? Are those just an "oh well, we'll be sad"?

Marijuana is the devil's smoke.

Buckeyeinflorida. It doesn’t mean he wasn’t a great guy, all accounts say he was. With that said, we have to learn from this. And we can.

Uh, yeah, It does mean he wasn’t a “great guy”. He put his fiance and the rest of the public at risk that night and only managed to kill himself. I have been biting my tongue/keyboard ever since this happened seeing all the “great guy” tributes. I work in an occupation where I sometimes come into contact with not such “great guys”. Lets just say sometimes you don’t want to meet your “heros”.

Not so what.  If he had died peacefully in his own home I would have wanted his autopsy to be a family matter.  That night on the road he was a danger to everyone so it is important that this be public record.  I love Terry Glenn, so please don't misconstrue this.  I hate that this is how it ended for him.

Drinking that amount and driving is never acceptable and is very dangerous. As much as it should be common knowledge it feels irresponsible/misleading not to mention in the article that he could have consumed marijuana 3-4 weeks earlier and shown "traces in his system."

HS

Tests also reveal Glenn had significant traces of marijuana in his system -- which could explain why cops found a marijuana grinder and bottle in the crash wreckage.

Very sad to hear this. Way too young to die, and under circumstances completely within his own control. Not an accident by any stretch; it was entirely preventable.

The "what ifs..."

Terry's fiancee, Verina LeGrande, survived the crash. Accounts said that Terry was driving and crossed multiple lanes of traffic before hitting a concrete barrier and flipping the car several times. Terry was ejected.

Was TG wearing a seatbelt?

If TG was that impaired, shouldn't his fiancee have been driving instead (assuming she wasn't also impaired)?

I've no wish to preach. There but for the Grace of God go I.

If you’ve been drinking for God’s sake please just call an Uber. You can even take another one in the morning to get your car.

HS
Lighteyes's picture

You can even take another one in the morning to get your car.

Also worth noting that most big cities have at least one taxi company that sends two drivers in one car to your location. One of them drives your car home (with you in it) and one follows in the taxi to pick up the spare driver. So you don't have that "where's my car" worry in the morning.

Obviously, it's a bit more expensive than a normal taxi, but if you're really concerned about leaving your car in a seedy bar parking lot overnight, it's often worth it.

I don’t think it’s “allure” it’s impaired judgement. People think ‘nah I’m ok to drive’ when they really aren’t. Which is why you need to train yourself to think “I’ve had more than one, i should wait a while or call a cab”, regardless of how you actually feel.

I don't think that's the intent at all, Part Time. There's a number of life lessons enveloped in this staff posting. Terry's tragic death is a cautionary tale for all of us.

I agree that we're all aware of the dangers of impaired operation of machinery. But unfortunately, people still go out and do it. The tragedy is that there didn't seem to be anybody who noticed TG's intoxicated state before he got behind the wheel, or didn't act proactively and intervene when it needed to be done.

Not sure I follow you. Reporting the news is hardly “talking shit on a dead man.”  There was no judgement passed just straight reporting of the facts. 11W is only allowed to print good news, or the news you want to hear?  Should they have reported nothing when the Buckeyes lost to Iowa? Should they have said nothing when Ezekiel Elliot was suspended from the NFL?

Absolutely right, Navy. If it involves Buckeye student-athletes (past, present, and future), then it's relevant news here on 11W. That includes the good, the bad, and the ugly news as well.

I appreciate what Glenn did on the field as a Buckeye but could someone please explain how this could be considered a "mistake?" A bad choice/decision for sure but a mistake? He knowingly used marijuana and drank heavily before getting into his car to drive. Also, why would his lady friend allow him to do so unless she too was impaired? Please people wake up and understand that bad habits and bad decisions often lead to bad outcomes. A very regretful thing not only for Glenn but especial for family and friends left behind.

A-Glenn obviously had some sort of substance abuse issues-it's sad that they affected him in this manner. Hopefully his passing will be a wakeup call for someone who needs treatment to make the plunge.

B-The nature of Buckeye fandom in some segments of the fanbase tends to lionize athletes/young men simply b/c they chose to sign w/ The Ohio State University. Are most of them basically good people, who care about others, the university, their families,etc-of course. Are they some kind of moral icon b/c they chose to play in Columbus as opposed to Happy Valley or Palo Alto or Tuscaloosa-absolutely not. Treating them as such, and then wondering "Why? How could they embarrass Buckeye Nation!?!" is ridiculous.
