I will take a B1G road win anytime. Iowa is quite bad this year though.
Way to go BasketBucks! Pretty good day all around I'd say.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Needed this game because Michigan State on Sunday could be a rough one.
KBD is looking like a potential NBA player right now.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Good win on the road and thanks to the network for the highlights of the football game from Iowa City this past season. Just gives you a warm feeling on a cold night.
Totally agree. I was watching the game and smiling....and then they played highlights from the football game. Smile immediately turned into a frown...then the drinking continued.
You win with people! - Woody Hayes
Huge win in Carver Hawkeye!!!
Rest, regroup and let’s come to play Sunday! Get better everyday!
Thanks for the Bingo - had to work missed the game - looking forward to Sunday for sure.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Nice win! That's 3-0 in the Big Ten with Sparty coming to town on Sunday.
The Schott needs to be ROCKIN on Sunday. We have to have a big home court advantage to win this one.
Tonight was the first full Buckeye basketball game I have seen. The effort and resiliency of this Buckeye team was impressive. KBD was terrific, and basketball is a much easier game when a team has a go-to guy like KBD. Go Bucks!
Nice win team!
Onward and upward! Go Buckeyes!
A good win for the Buckeyes tonight! I wish I could have watched but it was on ESPNU. Great to see Keita drop 27 and 13 and have all of our starters in double digits! Now if we can only get the bench players to be able to put the ball in the hoop!
Get dumped then
Better enjoy Diop while you can. Thats an NBA player right there only getting better and more confident. He was a run killer for Iowa. Whenever we needed a big shot to stop a mini run from them, Diop would answer. He still has some work on being more assertive and creating his shot through the drive but he's really improved. He's almost a complete player with the way he shoots and rebounds for us. We would be a top 12 team next year if he were to come back but I don't see it. Already produces big numbers so I'd bet he leaves.
He’s a senior.
No he isn't. Look at the roster. Redshirt Junior.
Yeah and I wouldn't blame him for leaving either, especially since he already has a degree (Economics- 3.5 years, pretty impressive).
I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.
Yeah, at the beginning of the year I was already hoping he would stay, but i think that ship has sailed.

Great win on the road for the Basketbucks! The next game is going to be TOUGH.

KBD & JT outstanding tonight with leadership, scoring, rebounds and D.
All starters score in double figures, despite some abbreviated time in 1st half due to foul trouble for CJ & Kaleb.
I’m really growing to like Dakich as back-up PG: 6 assists, 0 turnovers, 2 rebounds, a steal, 1 bucket.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
At least one "JT" had a good game in Iowa. It's all fun and games. Go Buckeyes!
Great win, love the way the offense was clicking
Great win on the road tonight. I would rather not have seen the mini-collapse at the beginning of the second half, but at least they righted the ship before giving the entire lead away and won convincingly. Now focus on repeating the upset of Sparty that we pulled last season. I hope the Schott is full and rocking on Sunday.
Every time Iowa made a run, we stepped up (usually, as pointed out previously, by KBD). That's good to see. The team is playing hard and improving!
Really missed a go to guy like KBD last year. Knock on wood and Tate has been more consistent at the FT line.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
I don't believe it can be overstated just how much the team missed him last year. It will be interesting to see who steps up to fill that gap after he graduates. I guess I'll enjoy this year first before going there though. ;)
Absolutely. If he had played last year there is no doubt in my mind we'd have made the tournament. I'm glad for him (and for us) that he is having a breakout season. He was poised to do so last year before that injury and it's great to see him back better than ever.
B1G road win, I'll take.
Not really expecting a W on Sunday but I hope they make MSU earn it, next Thursday is Maryland, if they take that game I like where they're at as far as potential to make the tourney even though there's still be a long way to go.
OSU was at 44th on KenPom.com before game. They may move up a notch with their win, and will jump up with a win vs MSU Sunday.
Solid win on the road. Can't say enough for the new team culture that our coach and staff are creating . . . especially after what they inherited.
Can someone help me understand why Young and Jallow do not seem to be progressing much, especially offensively? It was great to see Potter step it up some tonight both in scoring and on the boards.
Can someone help me understand why Young and Jallow do not seem to be progressing much, especially offensively?
They're doing what freshmen typically do in their first year. Remember, Jallow is just 17. It takes some time for most freshmen to adjust to the level of talent and speed and Hoops IQ of their teammates and opponents in the college game.
Unless you are D Russell, of course.
Just to add to Ibuck's comments, some of Matta's players that developed the most in the program struggled mightily as Freshmen: Lighty, Diebler, and Turner all come to mind.
Woof, I remember Diebler's freshman season vividly...it was ugly. Being such a prolific HS scorer I think it took him like 7-8 games to hit his first college 3-pointer.
Very strong win on the road. All five OSU starters scored in double digits and all five shot .500 or better for the game from the field. That doesn’t happen very often. Dakich leading the team in assists again this game - he has been a strong pickup. Go Buckeyes!
Love the way the Buckeyes brought it tonight on the road.
Dakich was great coming up from the bench in the first half for C.J. Jackson. Kam Williams making some key shots in the game. Diop had a solid performance. Overall, it was a nice win against Iowa on the road.
Take that zone defense! The first half was amazing to watch.
Isn't it fun to be excited about OSU basketball again?
Class of 2010.
Count me among the group who never saw a 3-0 start to B1G play coming. I'd love to see us beat Sparty at home this weekend. We win that game I'll have no doubt this team is headed for March Madness.

Great win by the Basketbucks, great to see us start 3-0 in the B1G!
Let’s get ready for Sunday and try to make it a competitive game versus the Spartans. Go Bucks!
The fact they are 12-4 and could have had 13 or 14 wins apart from a few lapses is really amazing considering the prospects back in the summer. Sure they're going to take more lumps this season, but Holt has them playing hard and with pride. This program will be a perennial top 20 team in a couple of seasons with him at the helm.
Agree. I guarantee that Holtman still lays awake at night pissed off about the Butler loss, as he was unable to regain control of the game. Clemson not so much in my opinion. That was just a situation of a quick turnaround after playing three games in four days on the west coast and losing steam.
I am very thankful that Gene committed 8 years to him. We just need to fix the Schott atmosphere, and we will be back to the glory years.
To thine own self be true.
Best way to fix the Schott atmosphere is to move back to St. John. The Schott is nothing but a black hole for sound.
Thanks for the UV finally put me at 100, I am quite the lurker so it took a while.
Sparty is on tap. This game more then any other should shape our team. Stay close, we may surprise allot of good teams in the near future. Win and we may not surprise teams at all but our confidence will be a great thing. Lose by 11-15 it will be a push. Get blowed out and allot of work is to be done to get to the NIT. IMO
Hey Cancer! This ass kicking is brought to you by the Sultan of the sythe. Give it hell CalPoppy.
I don't think we get blown out by Sparty, most of the games between OSU and MSU have been close games, but even if we do it's not a sign that this team is going to fall to the NIT. Sparty is BY FAR the best team in the conference and very well could be the best team in the country. Right now it looks like OSU is at the top of the heap of the upper-middle tier of teams after 1) Sparty (big gap) 2) Purdue (small gap) then everyone else. Losing a game to MSU, even if it's a bad loss, isn't going to spell doom.
Fair points. I considered this game allot and i stand by what i said. Basic logic is this. Are we contenders or pretenders? I see a completely different team then what we have been. Its the coaching. Is the buy in there or will this team wilt? I think they will surprise allot of people. This game will tell IMO.
I don't think there is a legit contender in the B1G race aside from MSU. Purdue looks like clearly the second best team, but they are not even close to MSU right now. That could change, CBB is a fickle sport, and with unbalanced schedules the best team won't always win the league. From what I've seen OSU is clearly a contender for a top 4 finish, which gets you a double bye in the B1GT. After MSU and Purdue, we lead the group that includes us, Michigan, Maryland and probably Minnesota. Then there's a drop off. I really cannot see any teams outside of those 5 getting an NCAAT bid this season. We have an incredibly favorable (i.e. weak) B1G schedule which should certainly help us in the W-L column.
Gotta make FTs, gotta box out, gotta hit the open man. Got to move your feat Bucks! We could go even money in the B1G, hopeful
Solid win against a realistically mediocre Iowa team. The Big Ten outside of MSU and maybe Purdue is not impressive this year. Not a bad year for it to happen with our "rebuilding" year! We're on a potential tourney bid trajectory -- we just need that statement win (like say... Sunday).
I'm in Davenport, tonight! Wish I would've been prepared to just drive over! Nice job getting some payback on the hardwood for the gridiron.
"The only good thing about it is winning the d*** thing" - Urban Meyer on The Game The War
I am not a Thad apologist--I really think his back had rendered him incapable of maintaining the effort it takes to have a Top 20 (or even 40) program. But I do think we have to reflect on how much Bates-Diop getting hurt just ruined last season. Even if his offensive game wouldn't have been as polished, he would still have been a force on the boards and in the paint shot blocking. Losing him really left the Bucks shorthanded, especially with all the departures.
Matta’s run didn’t end because of just 1 year. THE program had been in a steady decline for years. But I do agree Matta’s Health was the biggest factor, he just couldn’t take the grind anymore. Would love to hear some updates on Matta and how he is doing.
I think about it more as what Holtman would have done with Matta's last couple of rosters. Would he and his staff be able to motivate Loving, Funderburke, Lyle? What would Trevor Thompson have looked like in this offense?
I agree completely that the physical issues were too great to overcome, and were exacerbated by poor assistant hires, especially after Boals left. Nothing but love for what Thad did for the program. I simply wish he would have been more self-aware in his own demise and moving within the department 3-4 years ago once Russell left.
Love watching this team! The ball movement keeps getting better and better. An aggressive KBD is a thing to behold, and it's great to see Kam coming out of his funk over the last two games.
Now, can anyone tell me what actually constitutes a foul? Why isn't the player who initiates contact called for the foul? I see players blatantly jumping into the defender while "shooting" and going to the foul line. But then Caleb or JT get mugged under the basket and no call? Very perplexing.
"Bring back St John"
That's Big Ten officiating for you BB. I've scratched my head for years watching the Basketbucks play other Big Ten teams seeing the fouls called and not called on both teams. The only thing worse than Big Ten football officiating is Big Ten basketball officiating.
Class of 2001 - classless since then.
The officiating last night, for both sides, was exceptionally bad. Every bad call seemed to have a bad make up call for the other team.
Need to get at least one win out of these next two at home before string of away games.
Sparty hate weekend begins. Go Bucks!
"Dakich also finished with a plus-minus of +12 and did not commit a turnover in 26 minutes of action."
This is what you want from your PG, to run the offense efficiently. Now he just needs to shoot the rock when he's open, although that was quite a left handed reverse lay up last night.
Also, I think Holtmann needs to get Wesson and Potter to develop that "hook" shot in the paint more. Those two shots were beautiful. It's unstoppable if done right. (hint: against MSU)
Saban on a cart eating cold pizza
Beating iowa.....imagine that.
We now have 12 wins in just 16 games, Last year we didnt win game 12 until game 19 ie 12-4 vs 12-7
We are now 3-0 in conference. We did not get our 3rd conference win last year until game 8 games in, ie 3-0 vs 3-5
We now have 2 conference road wins, both by 9 points or more, we did not win our 2nd road game until 6 road games in, ie 2-0 vs 2-4
As noted we have won both by 9 or more, last year we won 3 road games in conference by 1 , 1 and 4, in fact last year we won only 1 HOME conference game by 9 or more a 10 point home win against Wisky in late February
All in all that is impressive improvement
Definitely headed in the right direction.
Really like where this program is headed. KBD has become that cut above player a team needs to be successful. CJ Jackson is playing well. Tate is always giving effort but he is playing under control. I hope 2 straight good games for Kam signals a trend. Dakich is a very good addition. Wesson is a factor down low. We have some pieces and they are meshing well. The future is very bright.
I have to echo the positive comments in this thread. The enthusiasm this team plays with is fun to watch.
I "loved me some Thad".....but judging by the lethargic way in which this team played for the previous 3 or 4 seasons, the defections of a (entire) recruiting class, and Thad's declining health....all added up to a toxic soup that grounded this program. While I think we need to keep our expectations in check for this season, the future is bright. In what appears to be a down year for the B1G, a respectable run by the Buckeyes this year just might earn a big dance card in March. We shall see.
I like what is going on here.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
Good road big ten win. keeping the conference record perfect. Especially with number 1 Michigan state looming this sunday.
Thank you Buckeyes for making my birthday memorable with a win @ Iowa!
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
