Cotton Bowl MVPs: OSU Dline, Tresselball (apparently), the right-hand upright, and the game clock.
I hate the offseason.
Hey man, don’t hate. Tresselball has won us a lot of games! ;)
Great win Bucks!!! That defense was NASTY!
That's why it's an MVP.
Was just a little frustrating to watch us start running out the clock midway through the 2nd quarter. Meyer bet on our defense and the defense delivered in a big way. Might have had the shutout if not for the muffed punt.
Im an old dude. Truth is fuck USCHEAT. this game has been a microcosm of JT's career at Ohio State. Comes out blazing. Rolls to very good. Becks out the final 2 quarters when we could of and should of put nails in the coffin. Along the way, sets records. I like allot of people am grateful for his leadership and thrills. I truly wish him the best in his future and thanks for kicking Michigan and USCHEAT'S ass in the same year.
Hey Cancer! This ass kicking is brought to you by the Sultan of the sythe. Give it hell CalPoppy.
Love the play calling second half.
Don’t worry about the off-season. This will keep us warm this winter. Plus pitchers and catchers report in less than two months.
Chrisman deserves a lot of credit as well
Who is this Rorschach guy and why does he paint so many pictures of my parents fighting?
Good luck JT I know that you will do great things in life. Thanks for the memories and stress throughout your time at the OSU. Now the dreaded offseason
"I will pound you and pound you until you quit" - Woody
If USC had a good offensive line, the Buckeyes would have gotten killed. The offense needs fixed. It was embarrassing tonight. Just pathetic. Call it Tressel ball, but that was the most boring second half of football the offense has played all year. I’m usually not one to complain after a win, but the offense completely lacked creativity, and the offensive coaching staff did nothing to adjust to what USC was doing on defense.
"It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer." - Albert Einstein
Nope. Our DL is just soooooooo good that they made USC’s line look like Swiss cheese. The game was over after 24-0. Who the hell are we trying to impress at that point? The playoff committee already shafted us. Urban actually pumped the brakes, which surprised the hell out of me. However, it’s all good. If we needed to put more points on the board, we could have. JT got a win on the way out, USC got nutchecked hard, and all is right in the world. Go Buckeyes!!!!!!!
Ohio State: The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
I agree that the Buckeyes didn’t need the points because the defensive line was so dominant. But I disagree that the offense could have just turned it on if they needed it. Maybe they could have, but the coaching staff took the foot off the gas and gave USC opportunities to get back in the game. It happened to some extent in the Big Ten Championship Game also. That is the same type of in-game decision making that caused a lot of fans to criticize Tressel. I guess I expected to see more of a killer mentality on offense in the second half, and was a bit frustrated by the lack of offense.
Say what you will, the game was over in the first quarter. We could have put a lot more out there, but what would really be the point? I agree about the BTC game, but this one was a little different. USC was never really in the game. It reminded me of a big kid sticking out his arm to hold back a toddler having a tantrum. I supposed we could have knocked the toddler out, but I think we chose the classier route of just letting him wear out and fall down asleep.
The fact of the matter is, we only scored 3 points on our own. Everything else was handed to us on a platter by the D. It's a good thing their offense committed so many turnovers or we would be screwed. Our offense looked like absolute garbage.
I don't have a big problem with it, but if I was one of the OSU wide receivers I might be wishing for next year, more of an offense.
But on the other hand, if this was the Steelers beating the Dolphins in 1978 we would have marveled over the wonderful defense put together by the Steelers. I mean that we would have recognized this for an awesome defensive game.
And maybe JT will go down in history like Terry Bradshaw - winning QB, hall of fame, four rings, everyone likes him - - just not the prototype 6'5" QB throwing it downfield over the defense.
BTW I kinda feel bad for Sam Darnold - I mean, he DOES have a great arm, and his placement of those sideline passes was something to see. I'm sure to the players (and fans) in attendance, it was obvious to the eye that Darnold and Barrett were not in the same class when it came to the ability to THROW the ball. whew.
So the defense, and especially the D line, the Rushmen, whatever..... they won the game. Game ball to the D line.
Go Bucks. Go Urban, 73-8 in 6 years. Geeeeeeezz can't do much better!!!
I would bet you 1,000 that if we needed to score more points in that game, we easily could have. This is the team we had and they ended the season on a high note with the BTC and wins over ttun, USC, Sparty, Wisconsin, and Penn State. Urban is a future hall of fame coach and I have a sinking suspicion that we all will REALLY miss him when he retires. Meyers, Sabans, and Swinneys don’t grow on trees. Let it go.
Who the hell are we trying to impress at that point?
Maybe potential future Buckeyes?
If they aren’t impressed already, why in the hell would we want them. The year is over and I seriously hope all of you lay the “ESPN” analysis of the Buckeyes to rest with it. The fan/critics are doing a hell of a lot more damage to our brand and recruiting than our 12-2 team that beat 5 teams with over 10 wins.
I agree 100%
Bill Belichick plays Tressel ball.
Counterpoint: Bellicheck allows his tight ends to catch passes.
Marcus Baugh was a leading receiver tonight for the Bucks. I think he plays Tight End.
Baugh doesn't play for the Patriots.
You have 2 down votes. I have passed out plenty here to butt heads, but not for football opinions. Sometimes I don't get this site.
Yes, definitely, GB10, the D-Line was the Defensive MVP.
Tresselball for the Offensive MVP? The main issue was the O-Line, not the play-calling. They could not open holes or block out blitzes. I was shocked at how 78 Knox was knocked back a couple yards into 16 Barrett on 4th and 1. And it was surprising how often 73 Jordan was pushed around. Did anyone else notice the struggles of the guards?
Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall. (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
While I agree that the OL did not have a great game against USC, it is asking a lot of offensive lineman to play in such a simplistic, mundane offense.
When the defense has a pretty good idea what's coming, and it doesn't include much of a downfield passing game, the OL is put at a distinct disadvantage versus the defense. Offensive diversity paves the way for a more effective performance by the OL. Just my take.
"I love football. I think it is the most wonderful game in the world and I despise to lose." WOODY HAYES
Too true, Tom.
The defense was lights out all night. The offense in the second half was uglier than those Ward threads.
But still: 12-2, beat Michigan, won the conference and a bowl game. That’s a good year in my book.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Excellent, Barf! Happy New Year and you'll put your eye out!
Holy shit how does this not break the size limit?

I laughed so hard at the Cooper. Had to do a double take. Thought it was cousin Eddie from National Lampoon's.
Ha, I totally wondered why Randy Quaid was in there.

That gif is highly performant!
OMG love that Barf. lol to funny man keep it up.........
This is fantastic.
Fantastic, Barf. It is such a relief to pound USC and get that money off the back after 16,000 days.
Awesome Gif for Xmas !!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic defensive performance, and enough offense to win!
"Luck is my middle name. Mind you, my first name is Bad."
Dare I say this was more satisfying than beating the shit out of Notre Dame
Of course, we've been able to witness that a bunch recently.
That was the most stressful blowout win I've ever watched, but very happy to finally snap the losing streak to the Trojans.
Absolutely massive plays from the defense.
The Rushmen had their way tonight
That was the d-line dominance that we've been waiting for all season.

Great season Bucks!! It’s been a pleasure. Can’t wait for 2018!!
Keep fighting CalPoppy
Well....Beat PSU. MSU. Michigan. Wiskey. USC. Won the Cotton and the Big Ten. 12-2.
I will take it.
Good win against a very good team, but I’ve seen fornicating turtles with more excitement than the Ohio State offense tonight.
Weird but exciting season.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
I’ve seen fornicating turtles with more excitement than the Ohio State offense tonight.
Pics or it didn’t happen.
Blessed to be a Buckeye
Come again, Cooper? How much experience do you have in this arcane reptilian area?
Rushmen, my thanks.
Greg Schiano (via Knoxville), my thanks.
LJSR, my thanks.
To the seniors, and departing underclassmen, my thanks.
Thank you Mr. Barrett
Great D. Meh O. Way to beat PAC 12 champs. Go Bucks.
Every win over SC is a good win.
The D Line is too good. Can't believe we lost to Iowa. Good season guys can't believe it's already gone gonna miss some of these seniors
With how our offense played tonight, the Iowa loss might have spared us another stinker in the playoff.
If you think our offense was going all out after midway through the second quarter, I have a bridge you might want to buy in Alaska.
Macke, have you not yet seen the pattern that began after our Natty Season when Tom Herman left? The offense isn't good against elite teams and we become very predictable. Tonight was no different. 95% of our plays occur within 5 yards of the LOS and the super-slow read-option isn't effective. This has burned us many times during the past three seasons. I was excited when we brought in Wilson bc he put explosive and innovative offenses on the field in former roles. He gets here and suddenly his offense looks like the one we have been running unsuccessfully the two years prior after Herman left? I don't buy it. You may buy it, but I don't.
We’ve been beating good teams left and right, so I think you probably should buy it. What’s the alternative or do you just enjoy raining on everyone else’s parade? Do you think Urban should retire or we should shuffle the staff more? That is laughably stupid on both accounts if you do. The season is over. Appreciate what we did, instead of what you think we should have done. Go Buckeyes!!!!!!!
Score is actually 10-0. I’m left wanting so much more, a theme that is getting old.
Sure, the offense was disappointing again. But our Buckeyes are B1G champs for the first time in 3 years, hasn’t lost to That Team in over half a decade, and defeated USC for the first time since Archie was in the backfield. If this as bad as it gets, we’ve got it pretty damned good. Enjoy it.

Meyer taking every chance to remind people that The best d line coach in the nation is a Buckeye :)
Deserves got nothin' to do with it
Thank you #16, you'll be missed. This fan base didn't deserve your grace. Buckeye Legend.
J.T put it all on the line for the Buckeyes. I have a newfound respect for that after what Denzel Ward did tonight.
Hats off to J.T Barrett!
Very, very, painfully true. I cannot even imagine what some of our “fans” would have said about Craig Krenzel if social media was around in the early 00s. Thankfully, JT is one of the toughest Buckeyes in history and he can take the BS. I hope our fan base chills out next season and appreciates every single victory without the obsessive sniping. Go Buckeyes!!!!!!!
We'll likely never see a DL that deep again.
Thanks for your dedication, JT. Good luck in your future career.
I don't know...they are going to be incredibly deep on the interior next year. If they get Harrison, Stover, Potter, etc, in '19, they'll be deep again in a couple years across the board.
Even if OSU gets exactly who they want in DL recruiting, the likelihood of them all panning out like these guys have is low. The current group has had virtually no misses.
That has a lot to do with Larry Johnson.
"You win with people" — Woody Hayes
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
The Bucks were unequivocally the better team tonight.
Hats off to the Silver Bullets. They've made tremendous strides since the Iowa debacle. And I'm so glad that Schiano shut down Tee Martin's offense (basically pitched a shutout without the muffed punt). Suck a dick Vols.
And one final tip of the cap to the G.O.A.T. J.T. Barrett and the rest of the seniors.
Don Brown must've attended night school, because he got owned by Day.
Gonna miss this Champion
Who the heck is downvoting this?
Crazy huh - I can spare a few ----------- thanks SM_Chi
I can give you one guess, hint: they are probably glad J.T. has played his final game as a Buckeye.
On another note, how about those linebackers?
Probably spot on there InJT
They will see how much he's missed soon enough
Those who think that it's great that JT is gone, are forgetting that most of those guys that keep dropping passes are staying.
PS. Don't forget who scored the most points in this game. For those who need a hint: It was JT Barrett with 2 TD's.
And how about JT Barrett's 28-yard run for a TD that iced the win early on!!
This was a Herculean effort from our baddass, bossmade defense. I salute them, and am damn proud to hopefully live long enough to tell their story, so their legends never die. That I lived during the time of the Bosas, and Lewis, and Hubbard, and Holmes. The Rushmen.
The offense? A wise man once said if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say nothing at all.
Silence. (And the hot fury of a thousand suns)
Dominating win from our defense. Go Bucks, and happy New Year to all of 11w.
Hope I live long enough to see the Bosa grandchildren in the rushman package.
We need to start recruiting potential women to make this happen
LOL Good one!
On behalf of the fans of the '70s and '80s: thanks for beating USC.

You can add the 90s and 2000s fans to that list as well.
"The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish" - Charlie Chaplin
If the offense is not changing next year, no way in hell should we want haskins in at QB. That is not a knock on him. Burrow or Tate has to be the guy. If Wilson can finally put his hands on the offense Dwayne all the way
Stop, just freaking stop. Wilson has his hands on the offense now. My God, WTF.
yeah, he has his hands on Meyer's offense. Which consists of QB runs in the draw and power formats. Roll out passes to the short side of the field resulting in a throw away and passes 3-4 yards short of the first down on 3rd and 5
Think what you want. I REALLY don’t care.
Yeah, Macke, suddenly Wilson's offense looks eerily and sadly a lot like Urban Meyer's offense. Would love to see Urban hand over the reins.
I’d rather enjoy the win than type some pissed off BS on my phone, so happy holidays. Go Buckeyes!!!!!!!
Haskins for Heisman! I am prematurely jumping on the train. Kidding aside, will be nice to have a legit passer taking the snaps. Hopefully Urban lets Wilson open up the playbook.
Passing game fans, please note that the team with the huge passing numbers . . .
…lost badly—by 3 scores.
This is NOT uncommon. In fact it happens frequently.
I think Navy threw 1 pass yesterday and won by 40.
And their 1 pass attempt was incomplete!
Aloha to Coach Niumatalolo!

See Clemson 2016.
Teams that turn the ball over 4 times and lose aren't uncommon either.
Buckeyes turned it over 4 times the last time they were in Jerrys World...
We were also the best team in the country by a wide margin that year.
Don’t think WRs got open early and the staff abandoned the pass game
"To The House"
I think we deliberately ran out the clock after 24-0. The game was over, so what was the point of rubbing it in. We have nothing to prove, even if a large chunk of our fan base believes otherwise.
Not because the 1 dimensional offense of Ohio State dished out a beating. USC's line isn't good enough to play this defense. They were also 1 dimensional.
Best defensive Buckeye performance I may have ever seen!!! Especially against a potential #1 NFL QB!! Offense sucks!! Urban needs to relinquish all play calling and coach from the booth with blinders on while on offense... for the rest of his days. ABYSMAL!!
"The people, who try to make this world worse... are not taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness. ~ Bob Marley
Urban needs to relinquish all play calling and coach from the booth with blinders on while on offense... for the rest of his days.
This certainly seems the case . . . and yet, UFM's rope-a-dope / Tresselball strategy worked thanks to tremendous D.
OTOH, USC's D in the 2nd half stymied OSU from getting successful downs, often holding the Buckeyes a yard or 2 short again and again. It was as if D'Antonio personally instructed them.
Urban just channeled Tressel and Woody. Until they prove they can score, we are up 17 and covering the spread nicely. Why risk a turnover? I know it’s frustrating when we don’t score 70+ a game, but we beat the hell out of the Trojans with defense and didn’t need to take any chances on offense. I bet JT hates it too, from a players perspective, but it was a very impressive beat down if you just know where to look.
The more I think about it, I think the Buckeyes this year were a lot like the Steelers of the 70s. They won four Super Bowls with a "bad" quarterback, but I'll take it.
Many observers were so obsessed tracking what JT was doing, but we also saw that we could not really get the running game going. As further proof that the USC defense was pretty good, while we were "running out the clock", JT took a few sacks in the second half. Our O line was definitely not perfect. I have no idea how they "grade" them, but they won't be champions across the board.
But the Steelers were grinders in big games, and they relied on their defense. Shoot, I think our linebackers played pretty damned well tonight. I mean, the biggest passing yards were to the wideouts - the linebackers did a fair job against a QB with a great arm covering the TEs and the RBs. I was impressed. Schiano's value just went up.
Lastly, I think Ward deciding not to play fired up the rest of the defense. It was a challenge, and they rose to it.
Tough to watch at times, but imagine if you were a USC fan watching that. You would be sooooooo disappointed and angry at your team's inability to sustain anything against the Bullets.
On to 2018! and Go B1G!
Great win...we might never see a defensive line like this one again. Revenge on USC never tasted so sweet!
Defense going to nasty next year....and the offense will be better
Offense went Uber vanilla mid 3rd quarter. Didn't enjoy watching that but with USC mistakes and the DL just killing them, I can understand why killing the clock became priority #1.
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
It was never not vanilla. The only thing OSU did that was different or even remotely creative was that reverse with Paris and it only worked once and had been done earlier in the season. The game plan on offense was fucking horrific.
It was exactly what it needed to be to win the game. No more, no less. Why beat them by 40 and give them something to stick in their craw for next time. That was a classic defensive beat down and all they can do is admit they got beat half to death.
If you’re an elite DL recruit, how do you watch that game and not want to come to Columbus?
MORE SACKS THAN POINTS.
Buckeyes 8 Sacks USC 7 Points.
Bout the only thing I didn't like was swapping Wilson for Jim Bollman when we got up 17.
And THAT is how you end a season, how you send out your seniors.
Best game from the DL, helped the DBs out a lot with Ward sitting. The catches they did give up were some tough as catches man. Hats off to Darnold too, he's a warrior back there just had no chance getting pressured, hit and sacked all game.
Gonna miss JT and all the other seniors leaving. That November afternoon in Iowa City will haunt forever, but 12-2, B1G and Cotton Bowl champs, beat Michigan, Top 5 finish is a solid year. Not looking forward to 8 months without Buckeye football
Great Win for the Buckeyes
Beat Oregon State
Dline came up huge! Should be the MVP.
Damon Webb and Mack have yourselves a game!
Sheffield, too. He was a man tonight.
Exactly there was so much shit talked about him in another thread, so glad that he proved his doubters wrong by really stepping up tonight. The audacity of people to call for Okuda over Sheffield...he showed them.
Glad for the win. Our offense needs a major overhaul. Defensive front was lights out!
Offense will get an overhaul. It is called having the forward pass as a realistic threat. We will finally have it next year. Get excited!
We'll see. They suddenly became superstars the moment Haskins was throwing to them.
I'm just plain disgusted with the offense. Defense was pretty great. The streak is dead!
No offense but the offense reminds me of your name!
Have an upvote
This win is all on the D. J.T. was literally useless minus a couple runs. O-line was disappointing. This was completely on the D preparing and then playing like their hair was on fire.
D Line. DBs had a few good plays, but they gave up a lot and Okudah got away with more PIs than the 2 they made a big deal about. He wasn’t ready and that’s most likely Ward’s fault.
I call ignorance. A couple of TD runs, one from 28 yards. Coach kept them throttled back the entire second half until SC showed they could score- and they couldn’t. Thank God Urban doesn’t game plan to meet your expectations.
The main problem was the O-Line could not get the job done, esp the guards.
Special teams played well tonight...huh?
if our defense was a person I’d check my appearance in the mirror before they noticed me
offense...oh..hey man. Didn’t see ya there
Great year. Went to my first game ever against Penn St., beat ScUM again, beat scum west coast, and I don’t have to suffer through JT’s pathetic passing game. Here’s to Haskins and 2018 throwing the ball! OH!!
"Why didn't we run Zeke?"
Thank God and coach Johnson we have the best defensive line in CFB.
Now for a Woodford to celebrate.
Jim Tressel's favorite moment was that entire second half.
And Chrisman was fantastic in punting
Good win, the conservative playing calling in the 2nd half was annoying. However, the game was in hand & why not protect your guys. I’m not mad. Good win, good season. When 12-2, with a conference championship & a major Bowl is disappointing, you’re doing something right.
"Because I couldn't go for three"
As good of defensive line performance that I’ve seen. Hoping Okudah and Wade and beat out Arnette and Sheffield next year. I’m ready for the offense to turn the page.
I thought Sheffield played lights out.
Two pass breakups and a forced fumble. He was spectacular tonight.
It seemed like OSU killed the will of USC in the first half.
Behold the chunky whoop ass.
They completely gave up. With seven minutes to go in the fourth there was no hustle at all. They accepted the loss early in the fourth.
Yeah I was watching with my dad who is a huge SC fan and we were like what the hell is SC doing? They were running the ball up the middle, doing short throws over the middle, taking forever to get the plays in. I was like are they even trying anymore?
Offense sucked, defensive front four was otherworldly. 12-2, beat ttun, win the B1G and spanked the Trojans. Good year. Happy New Year fellow Buckeye nerds!
Chris Gamble was interfered with
Great win boys but that offense, might as well punted on first down. Thank you J.T., anxious to see our offense next year
We beat the Trojans in my lifetime!
But now it's the off-season. Bittersweet. Go Bucks!
"Buckeye Nation, this one's for you"
Why thank you
Whoo! Thank God that's over with a buckeye w! Defense played lights out and the offense was.... Uh... There. It's not JT's fault though - it's Urban's for calling the same stupid predictable shit
Webb and Sheffield both played great great games.
Here's to hoping Day, WIlson, and Meyer go on a sabbatical into the woods and Meyer get's all fucked up on peyote like Dirty Steve in Young Guns, and let's Wilson run the damn offense how he wants to next year. Great win tonight. The offseason is a lot more bearable coming off a win.
Go Sooners Again
Hey dog, did you see the size of that chicken?
Urban now has 12+ wins in 5 of his 6 years at tOSU. TTUN has only 2 of those in their history and one of them was 100+ years ago lolz
Great stat Kareem!
Attention Vols fans, you are idiots. Schiano's defense just owned Tee Martin's offense.
Seniors, we will miss you.
I love JT Barrett for what he's done for OSU but DAMN I am ready for the next chapter. Haskins, Burrow, Martell, Baldwin, I don't care who our next QB is. As long as its a QB who can run a competent offense vs. a good team. This offense is crap.
I'll get downvoted for this but don't give a shit. Denzel Ward abandoning his team was BS. If you dont want to get injured and hurt your draft stock don't fucking play at all. Good luck kid. We wont miss you.
Early prediction for 2018: 12-1 and B1G title IF and ONLY IF our offense moves beyond what we've had since Tom Herman left. Otherwise 10-2 or 9-3. Haskins cant run the read option so abandon it. Time to move on.
Still a very sweet victory. Thanks, seniors!
Who was 12 on punt coverage without a name on his jersey?
"I'm not going to lie. We're anxious to be a part of a matchup like that. It's two states that love the game of football." -Jim Tressel
bye JT..thanks for the work man..
bye Tressel-ball... hope for new year bringing different style of football.
last 2 years have not been joyous to watch quite honestly.... 2 underachieving years by our standard and expectation, given our talent and scheduling.
next year - tough games - TCU in texas neutral site... @ PSU... new QB...
Seriously though. No Cotton Bowl MVP trophy? Huh? I would say Ward gets it right?
Let's Go BUCKEYES!!!!!
Boom Box wrong! Congrats Bucks.
Just goes to show that the Pac-12 hasn't been ready for the physicality that the B1G has brought this bowl season. I'm prepared for the next chapter here and to see how UFM can show how he adapts to a new QB for the first time in awhile. Next year has the chance to be amazing. I'll give JT his time to shine but I'm definitely ready to move on here.
"Don't trust every quote you read on the internet." - Abraham Lincoln
Can't be mad with a win, but man, I've never felt less thrilled with a bowl win as I did tonight. I'm just so sick of watching an inept offense.
I'm excited for the post-JT era to see what it holds, but Urban and company have a lot of work to do.
Great Great Victory Buckeyes!!!
We Fans Will Miss ALL of you Seniors moving on in Life.
We are Proud of all of Our Buckeyes!!!
Good Win Defense You Won This Game .. Offense Also A Great Game.. Barrett very good first half!
So sad to see this season end can't wait til 9 mos. from now...
Fix the graphic. The score is wrong.
Zeke was in the house.

Once a Buckeye, Always a Buckeye
Both he and Dak look thrilled to be there. LOL.
Media will report that he tried to pull up her shirt. Just watch.
He makes millions and has holes in his knees?
The best offense tonight was SC. SC over 400 yards total offense.
The best defense was SC. OSU under 300 yards on offense.
Yes, we won.
But anybody watching this game knows SC gave it away with the TO's.
Those are the facts.
Very happy with the win.
However this was no where near a dominating win.
The "O" sucks!
OSU has peaked offensively.
It is leveling off and I'm afraid the inevitable decline is imminent.
Hope I'm wrong.
Buckeye since 1952.
Seems to me that the D that only gave up 7 on a very short field and FORCED 4 turnovers and had 8 sacks was the best D.
If only you knew the POWER of the Dark Side
What? The better defense is the one that forced more turnovers & held the “better offense” to less points. On another note, the coaches clearly took their foot off the gas. They were confident in the D & decided to protect their players in what is essentially a meaningless game.
SC was completely one dimensional. It took a lot of pass plays to get those yards. They only got into the endzone once.
In the second half you saw a tresselization.
Apparently our defense didn’t force those turnovers according to you, but USC actually just decided to give up the ball.
How is an offense better when it turns the ball over 4 times? Why does 400 yards matter if you turn the ball over 4 times and lose by 17?
I’m not good with gifs, but this calls for the old lady saying “Wut?”
There’s always one....
The 2002 National Championship Team was outshined each of their last four games. So I guess they must have really sucked.
Hey man, if you take all the turnovers out of the game, we still win 3-0...

It's comments like these that make me miss the days we could downvote comments into oblivion.
That game reminded me of a 1980s/1990s Super Bowl, with OSU playing the role of the NFC team and USC being the Broncos or Bills. I’m thrilled to finally beat the University of Spoiled Children, but, man, that was a terrible game to watch.
Good. That serves the committee, ESPN, USC, and some of our fans right. Ohio State won and it only benefited us. God knows anyone outside of the base changed the channel.
Big Ten Champs beat the Pac 12 champs. This is way better than losing in the playoffs. On to the offseason.
Principles before personalities.
Great performance by the d line, they crushed the usc offense all night. The buckeyes offense sucked though, especially in the second half. Once usc sold out to stop the run, it was lights out for the osu offense. I'm really going to miss JT for his grit, leadership, decision making etc, but not for his passing accuracy and passing ability. He's one of the all time greats, buckeye legend, but I'm also looking forward to having a better passing game in the future.
We also need Urban Meyer to stay the hell out of the play calling room. Just focus on being the team CEO. Let Wilson and Day do their thing.
Seriously? Are you on the staff? Nope. You don’t know. I don’t know. Assumptions are for assholes.
None of us are on the staff. So we're all just stating opinions. If assumptions are for assholes, then you also fall under that category.
I didn’t make an assumption. Seriously, bro. Enjoy the win. We just snapped a 7 game losing streak against those bastards and a couple of those losses involved shitty refs. Look on the bright side: we just beat them with half of a team. Save the criticism for Ohio NFL teams. They deserve it. Ohio State doesn’t.
I'm also looking forward to having a better passing game in the future.
Who is going to catch these passes?
Good question, it remains to be seen if we have any consistent pac catchers on the roster, but given the deep passing game of the past couple of years I don't know if they've had that chance. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing the bucks again next year!
Way to go Buckeye Defense. Outstanding game by that D Line.
Can finally say I've seen the Buckeyes beat USC in my lifetime.
Shout out to Tyquan Lewis: https://twitter.com/eurekaad/status/946971750360928256
Tyquan Lewis presents himself as a man's man in everything I have read and seen of him. Tyquan will be missed for his play; moreso for the man he is. Go Bucks!
Haskins is now QB1 @OSU, life is great. We can now throw downfield passes further than 10 yards for the first time since Cardale took off the 12 jersey!
Drive, drive on down the field; men of the scarlet and gray!!!
I just hope someone starts catching these passes.
Great win on a big stage and damn fine finish to 2017, from the lows of Kinnick to beating TSUN, winning the B1G, and closing against SC, I will gladly take it into the offseason. Big thank you to JT and the rest of the seniors, way to close it out right.
That really wasn't a lot of fun to watch. I think Urban turtled more than Tressell ever did in any one game. That defensive line was awesome. The secondary was average, and the offense was el stinko - I was really expecting a much better performance from the offense, I would never have dreamed we would get outgained by well over 100 yards. Oh well, a frustrating season comes to end, fittingly with a frustrating game, that looks like a convincing win due to the scores set up by the defense. I'll take it over a loss, but that wasn't anything close to a classic game.
It was a Classic. Defensive. Beatdown.
Most fans just have no appreciation whatsoever for good defense. It's fucking sad.
What a half ! Weeeeee onto next year
Some things became obvious tonight:
The defensive front is off the charts and deserves full credit for the win ..... period !!
Knox needs to get his head out of his ass more often (if I was JT, I'd be jamming my cleat up his butt for continually failing to check the inside rush (or inside delay blitz).
Dobbins did not play is usual slashing style - seemed to walk up to the line of scrimmage and there was no burst (true, USC crowded the inside run game, but this is a very average run-stopping team at best and Dobbins did not look as quick as he has in previous games).
Baker needs to forget his NFL dreams for one more season - still over-rushes on his blitz and missed the tackle for loss at least 3 times this game. He'll benefit from one more season at the college level.
All in all, a very good season - a head scratching loss to Iowa, but some solid wins and an amazing career for JT - they'll miss his leadership ....
Can't wait for the Scarlet & Grey game !!!!
Very good to see someone sees what I see in the O-LIne, even someone from up north, eh?
Hahaha - coached O-Line for over 20 years on both sides of the border .... once you put your hand on the ground, the rules are the same, LOL !! Have a great New Year, ChristianHaven !!! Don't forget to have some Canadian back bacon on New Year's morning (secret Canadian cure for a hangover !!) .....
Although the game was not a lot of fun to watch... it was a great end to what in hindsight was a great season. Not what we wanted, but a B1G Championship and a win over USC is awesome.
Congrats to JT and the seniors.
"Khajiit has wares if you have the coin."
Well we beat the ranked 6 8 9 and 16th ranked teams this year. From bowl season seems like big 10 and big 12 best confrences.
D-line was just amazing and the D overall against a 1st round QB and some dangerous WR's was pretty damn good. The offense though, pretty pedestrian, which is the theme with them since 15 against teams with talent. USC's defensive ranks coming in were pretty bad. USC was 75th in total D giving up 404.8 yds/gm. They held tOSU under 280yds of offense. They are tied for 62nd in Scoring D, giving up 26.3 pts/gm. Urban needs to take a hard look at his offensive scheme against teams of similar talent, if USC doesn't gift us turnovers all game, who knows what the outcome is.
Great win. Vanilla offense. Can't help but lose respect for Ward for choosing to not play and then stand there on the sidelines like he's part of the team . Downvote all you want but I'll never respect someone that does that. 2018 season can't start soon enough
RTDB, yes, Ward was trustworthy, loyal, helpful...
The off season! AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Not sure why Oweh would not want to play at OSU...
That was one of the most boring games of football ive ever watched
If i could change my username, i would
Watching the D line was fun
Good defense can look that way.
So if you told me before the game JT would pass for 114 yards and Dobbins would end up with 39 yards I would have mentally prepared myself for a blowout by USC.
JT is the most decorated and the most frustrating QB ever. But great win over a program that has owned us for decades.
Think it is safe to say the bucks have the best D in the country.
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
Also, I can't believe how negative people are after this win (Well.. I CAN believe it, but I was hoping otherwise).
Don't worry about what the O will look like in the future.. it'll be fine. Enjoy the win tonight!
We've been saying that for 3 years. We have a new QB next year so hopefully that sparks something. Seriously, can you tell me you were happy with our offense tonight? Is it not fair to expect them to look like they at least practiced for the game?
The score was 24-0 and our defense was lights out. USC was in a 24-0 hole because of TO off passing. Woody always said three things can happen when throwing the ball and two of those are bad. Did you want the offense play calling to start a passing barrage so that USC could get back into the game, or run the ball, take time off the clock, punt and win the field position battle and let the defense do their thing. Defense wins championship, BiGTen titles, bowl games, etc. We play the games to win them, which we did. Offense play calling was altered after we got the big lead and the offensive line did not play particularly well which hurt us sustaining drives. Our offense could have been worse and only scored one TD on a short field because of a muffed punt. Great win. Go Bucks
Pumped for the win and the defense but the offense was not improved a bit from a year ago vs Clemson.
Great win. No complaints. 24-7 beatdown of USC is something I'll take. 12-2, Big ten champs, beat TTUN, PSU, Wisconsin, ended the streak of losses against USC.. Good year boys. We earned some good boy points back with the committee which should carry over into next season.
Feels damn good to beat USC! Too bad it wasn't Cheater Peter at the helm anymore but hey, suck on these nuts anyway. The Committee fucked up.
Damn good night to be a Buckeye.
Class of 2010.
Really wish we would’ve had that shut out!!!
On to QBgeddon 2.0
Who won the MVPs?
Whelp I really don’t care what happens from here on out. I am done with College football this year.
I really dislike psu, but they are gonna lay the wood to Washington...the pac 12 has had a bad bowl season
The final score was 24-7.
How difficult is it to get the final score right?
I'm embarrassed for 11W.
I want my $85 back.
(Applebee's gift cards will be accepted as legal tender for a limited time.)
SEC Garbage 0-3
Big Ten 5-0
Why the ESPN owns the decision on top 4?
Why does the SEC get all the breaks?
This should be the last year of this garbage.
tOSU the best team in College football in the best league in college football.
So you actually think Ohio state is the best team in CFB?
We are slotted exactly where we deserve - this is not a playoff team - period .... Defensive line is outstanding, linebackers and secondary are good ..... Offense is sporadic, at best, when playing top competition ..... Special teams were hot and cold all season ........ Then, of course, came the 55 points given up to Iowa ...... We are not in the top 4 category .... just not a complete team ....
Let Kevin Wilson pick the QB without influence, and let him call the plays without influence.
Those teams in the playoffs, any of them, would have torched us to the ground. USC isn't coached by Pete Carroll anymore. Good team but not a killing machine like in the past.
We’re fortunate they went to the cotton bowl. That team (offense and to some extent back 7) would’ve been smoked by OU or Clemson.
Great job by the defense tonight. D-Line deserves special shoutout. What a game by all of them. Darnold was a deer in headlights! Our Offense? UGLY. But we got a win and finished 12-2 with wins over MSU, PSU, UM and USC. Good year. Looking forward to The Dwayne Haskins Show next year!
We will fight to the end for OH-IO!
Starting to really think sEcSPN absolutely hates the Buckeyes. Scott Van Pelt saying game was boring cause of the Buckeye front line. Then later saying the game was a let down! Really ...........
Van pelt is the man. If you were not a buckeyes fan you would be saying the exact same thing.
Everyone who is not a Buckeye or Trojan fan was hoping for a competitive game. It wasn't. So it was boring and a let down for those folks.
I have to say beating USC was on my To Do list to start this season...just wish it was in Pasadena
beating USC was on my To Do list to start this season...just wish it was in Pasadena
Where USC fans are 70% of the crowd? That is basically a home game for them.
That was a mind numbing game, with the exception of the OSU defense that mostly played lights out.
The offense is prehistoric. It wasn’t Beck and Warriner Wilson had competent offenses at Oklahoma and Indiana. The only possible options of things holding it back are Urban or JT. Looks like we are fixing to find out next year who the culprit is/was.
OSUCOM 2008 Graduate. Go Bucks!
Offense is handcuffed by JT
It ain't just J.T., brotha. He has his deficiencies, but the offense struggled in 2015 even when 12 gauge was behind center.
You are looking for someone to blame. Scapegoating has worked wonders in the past.
Really gonna miss this DL. Big shoes to fill next year
Thank you seniors, thank you JT, coach Johnson and coach Schiano are the mvps tonight. Defensive line played lights out. Secondary played a good game, the plays against them were perfect throws by darnold or great catches by thier recievers couldn't do much about that. Offense I think forgot to come back out of the locker room after halftime. The future is bright is bright, we will be in the hunt to win the whole damn thing next year. Great season boys!
Thank You - Buckeye Football Team!
Time for Young, Bosa, Cooper, Garrett, A. Jackson, Landers, Vincent etc. to step up on the D line
Love me some B.B. Landers.
Already excited for next year! That D line was absolutely amazing to watch. Spent the whole night in his face.
Shout out to the D-Line and Drue Chrisman for stepping up and getting us this win.
I am not one to complain about officiating, but there were some headscratching calls tonight.
We weren't playoff material this year, but we are still a top five team and 17 points better than the No. 8 team.
Happy that the seniors went out with a win.
It has been decades since I saw an Ohio State team out-muscle and out=work a USC team the way this one did.
I don't think it is going to be a decade or more till the Buckeyes win out against USC again.
I'm 60. I was 16 when OSU last beat the Trojan's...
16-2 is SWEET!
Puts it in perspective...
The Cotton Bowl was an important win for the perception of the Ohio State program. The W will mask all of the offensive warts when the game is remembered down the road.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
ugly win, but a good win nonetheless...
Great win, long time coming. Being out here see a lot of PAC 12, Darnold can't handle that kind of pressure. Should have been a blowout.
Defense is good enough, but offense would not have made it through playoff. Looking forward to the Haskins/Mack/Dobbins offense next year.
Great win Bucks!
The officiating crew should have to donate their salary to charity.
Some espn stats. Darnold was 26-45 for 356 yards and 1 INT.
Barrett was 11-17 for 117 yards passing, and was our leading rusher with 66 yards. USC had 23 first downs to our 13. And had 9 more minutes TOP than the good guys.
While the defensive line was absolutely stellar, the offense still struggled. It will be interesting to see next season. Growing pains aside, Haskins has an arm. And doesn't have 300 years worth of tape and habits to study. So it'll be exciting to see something new. I think UFM called the plays he felt right within the strengths of what he had available with JT (we all have limitations). I believe his system will work just fine with a better arm that has to be respected.
Lastly. Give JT his respect. Remember his record against TTUN and that seats him at the head of the table in my book of Buckeye lore. Thats ALL THAT MATTERS
Growing pains aside, Haskins has an arm.
Darnold does too, but his team lost 3 times this season.
There's a lot more to being a QB than just flinging it. Poise, leadership, toughness, intelligence, extending the play, etc. If Haskins (or any OSU QB) has these qualities, as well as being able to see receivers that are open or are about to be, and get them the ball without turning it over, then he should be able to succeed. And help keep his team from 3 losses.
So far the B1G is 5 - 0 in bowl games and the all mighty SEC is 0 - 3. So tell me again how they got two teams in the playoffs?
There was no better option
Schiano's game plan was genius and USC handing off down three scores with time running out was basically a white flag. Webb, Sheffield, Bosa, Holmes, Hubbard, Lewis, and Baker (despite some missed sacks) all really stood out. Darnold looked like he did not want to play anymore. Huard nailed it when he said it was no fun tonight for him. Kid can sling that rock, though.
And another big time RB goes down hard...Taylor, Barkley, Jones.
I'm really glad they shut Jones down, dude looked lightning quick when he had a little room to spool up.
What do run the damn ball people say tonight? Without great d and efficient play from JT we lose tonight. This is why you need to be more dynamic than “you should have called something else guy.” All JT haters can suck if.
You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.
I wouldn’t pick this as the game to celebrate JT
JT scored MORE points in this game, than anyone else on either team. Pull your head out of the sand.
JT also had more yards rushing than anyone else on either team.
The big problem tonight was the O-Line.
These arguments pro and con about JT are getting old and stale. They're less about JT, and more about saying I was right and you're wrong so I'm smarter than you.
I gained admiration for Sam Darnold tonight, and not just because he played in the bowl, unlike Denzel Ward. He got off passes under extreme pressure, he has a quick release, good mechanics, and is highly accurate to anywhere on the field. Exceptional passer.
And he has some awesome receivers too. And the Buckeyes still prevailed.

You do realize he had 19 incompleations 1 INT & 2 fumbles. Oh, I almost forgot he also did NOT win.
Under 300 yards total offense, 14 points off turnovers.
Great win! Was awesome to see the defense dominate USC after some of those heartbreakers in the Pete Carroll era.
Hats off to the seniors who went out with a bang in their final game as Buckeyes. Tyquan Lewis, Jayln Holmes, Hubbard, Worley and Damon Webb brought it to USC all night and never gave them a chance.
Heck of a season!
JT's last game!
Way to send JT out with a win!!!
In a season where you lose two games, Big Ten Champs and winning a Major Bowl is the best you can realistically hope for. WAY TO GO BUCKS!!!!!
Obviously the DL was insane tonight, but I gotta say... this was Sheffield's best game I've seen him play to date. He looked like a #1 corner out there. Burnett is a very good receiver and beat him a couple times, but Sheffield would then strip the ball twice or tackle right away. Played so well they switched Burnett onto Okudah and Arnette. Only 1 game but his superstar potential may have started to show tonight and hopefully he will be our next 1st round DB after next season.

I feel like the only mother-fucker that is sad to see IT go....Fuck y'all if you think otherwise....Dude balled out for us. TOSU
I feel like the only mother-fucker that is sad to see IT go.
No, you’re not alone. I too am a sad mother-fucker.
First win over USC in my lifetime, born in June 74
Great win. Any time you beat a top 10 team is a good win. And F U Ward, I get you'll make more money than I ever will, but so much for all that "brotherhood" rhetoric.
That's the style boys! That's how you go out in style! Cheers to an amazing team, and some of the GOAT players and coaches! It's great to be an Ohio State Buckeye!
"The only good thing about it is winning the d*** thing" - Urban Meyer on The Game The War
Great first half play. SOME lousy officiating all game. Terrible second half play and play calling. wtf coaching, laid big egg. Sad. But still would win cfp. Period.
Bunch of salty babies in this thread because Ohio State didn't get 800 yards of offense. For fucks sake it's a major bowl win.
I really hate this fanbase sometimes.
Not expecting 800 yards, but I would like to see something besides QB run on every single 3rd and short. Everyone in the world knows what is coming. Can’t we be happy with the win but disappointed in how poorly the offense looked?
Defense played lights out.
Offense was... non-existent in the second half. Frustrating. Maddening. Hate to see the wasted potential.
BUT- we got the W. Enjoying that and a great season from our team.
Happy New Year, Buckeye Nation.
Now I go into withdraw until September 1st.
Go Bucks! Beat Oregon State!
"Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else." - Judy Garland
After seeing this game I have concluded that Meyer will turn Haskins into another one dimensional QB who runs the ball every 1st and 2nd down.
The sad fact is Meyer has repeatedly suppessed the talent on every team since he arrived. 277 yards from a very veteran offense. Only 117 passing on only 17 attempts from a Sr. Oline and a 5 yr. QB. Its a sad joke.
And more are sure to come. And just like Iowa, the Defense wont be able to cover it up every game.
Theire is only one truth...
