What a circus of an announcement
Absolutely!! I peeked in every now and then and it seemed like a damn infomercial for some company that I've already forgotten the name of.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
I couldn't take anymore. Hell they didn't even have a working mic. I had to tune out
The Nole boards were hilarious. After an hour, I was actually glad to see him go to FSU.
But, the tweets were getting funnier and funnier...

I’m not sure what time it is, but Xichigan still sucks
I don't know if the Emory Jones saga or this announcement was a stranger story
F that kid, the only one out of today’s disappointments I still respect is Carman. He at least, had the decency to stay uncommitted.
I have never once been pissed at a kid for choosing what they want, but this is where I break that. I am ok with Jones and Cox in all honesty, and I agree with your view on Carman. Woodbey? How fucking bizarre can you be? They recruited you for a week (even if they did recruit him at another school), and YOU were the one that asked for the scholly. Not a whole lot of character in the Woodbey household after that announcement. Looks like something against the rules is going on too. Not sour grapes, just the whole "pomp and circumstance" makes it feel like something really shady went down. Wonder what Wyatt Davis thinks?
To be totally honest, the whole reaction to Woodbey and his actions, vs. Shaun Wade and his recruitment last year just shows A-how little any of us-including Lind and the supposed recruiting gurus-really know about a recruit's (and his families) true character/personality, motivations, and genuine interest in tOSU, and B-Our collective willingness to project our own impressions about tOSU and Urban's recruiting pitches on the situation at hand. If you read half the comments when a recruit commits to tOSU, one might think he had declared his life's mission was to build vegan orphanages for children in Guatemala. Guess what-they are teenagers who happen to be really big, strong, fast, field savvy, etc, etc. That's it. Personality, family circumstance, vulnerability to sales pitches (if there is one thing that sales pros teach their trainees it is to zero in on vulnerabilities to make that sale), academic interests-they are all over the place-and the more circumspect fans/posters are about wrapping every commit into a one size fits all "He's awesome/brilliant/future-thinking b/c he's Urban's Buckeye!!!!(for now)" straightjacket, the better fans we will all be.
Money, money, money.
Me following these updates today.
lol me too
OSU didn't execute and lost to horrible officiating. BOTH things can be true
How not to handle a recruitment
It's not just Woodbey. It's also Jones and Carman. All along I noticed certain buzz words in a lot of the articles about certain OSU recruits. It was very obvious with Parsons. I knew right off the bat that the staff wanted no part of that kid because of certain key words that I would read about him. When you follow recruiting long enough you start to pick up on those kind of things. I'll bet anything that many of OSU recruiting writers know exactly what happened but they won't say it because they don't want to fall out of favor with the staff or with future recruits and i can hardly blame them. Urban has mentioned before that he allowed entitled recruits with bad attitudes tear Florida apart and that he wouldn't make that mistake again. He's looking for recruits that are ultra competitive, low maintenance, unselfish, team first athletes. If you noticed none of the kids that "flipped" or didn't pick OSU today fit that mold. Maybe I'm way off on this but from what I gathered based off of reading between the lines of all of the beat writers and from things that Urban has said I get the feeling that the drama became too much and Urban had enough. OSU fans shouldn't be upset about losing out on these guys. Trust Urban. Keep an eye on these guys over the next 2 or 3 years. I'm willing to bet that we'll be thankful that we didn't land a few of these guys.
Don't listen to Freddy P. Soft
Well said. This is a dick move and is a microcosm of how he conducts himself. Impulsive, not respectful, thinks only of himself. These traits over 4 years equate to trouble
Impulsive, selfish, and disrespectful? He's perfect for FSU!
Not really the same or include Carman. He was never committed here and told anyone who would listen he liked Clemson. He didn’t really lead us on.
No he was never committed nor did he even say that OSU lead but he was definitely high maintenance and had an entitled attitude which is why I included him in that group.
So what were the buzzwords?
See you in Indy! B1G!
Crusher, even if what you say is not what the case may be. You are correct in that OSU should never bring these kinds of kids in to the program. They are not what you build a team with. They may go on to succeed and have great careers, but they also can be disruptive to the team. We should want kids that have a football attitude and confidence that shows on the field not kids that are all about the drama. Class & character over glitz and the it's about me mind set.
That's right, that's right, we bad
Stock up on some O-Linemen we can develop.
At least the tweets and threads following the announcement were hilarious. It became more entertaining than trying to figure out where he was going to commit.
"It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer." - Albert Einstein
I’m all for wishing kids who go elsewhere good luck, but the kid literally just got a scholarship because he told a fan that Florida State hadnt even offered him. How can you forge good relationships in a 1-2 week span?
Taggert recruited him when he was at Oregon...so the relationship was already there. And have you seen FSUs campus? Coeds? Not a hard sell if there is interest. Tough break but not a class killer. Gotta get another OL.

Thank the Maker that I was born in Ohio, cradle of coaches, US Presidents, confederate-stomping Generals, the Uncomparable Joe Burrow, and home of The Ohio State University Buckeyes- 2014 UNDISPUTED National Champions!
Jameis Winston played @FSU not Florida
Agree, I was in that area and just stopped by campus to have a look and check out the stadium etc- the campus is ok- not well maintained in my opinion and the city is a DUMP
It is, but it's less so for the football players. Between their status on campus and in town, and the extraordinarily hot chicks who seem to fall out of trees wherever you go, it's not the worst experience a kid between 18-22 could have.
The dudes from the west coast ....way hotter chicks. Terrible analogy.
Love the game over any team fandom.
There are females at Ohio State, last I checked.
All the decommits came from the out-of-state kids. I hope a lesson has been learned here.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Apparently there is a huuuge difference between Florida chicks, and Ohio females buddy...
You're either at the table, or on the menu!!
Coeds? Ask Zeke about coeds and see what his reaction is.
My kid graduated from FSU and I can tell you the campus is nice, but 5 feet off of it is an absolute shit hole. It's like walking into downtown Detroit. When we visited we tried to stay on campus. Total dump city.
I think every school recruiting him has coeds.
That's what makes me scratch my head. So you flip because Schiano might leave in the next year or so, but you go somewhere where you've developed a relationship over a 2 week period and the coach just got there after ditching his last job? Huh?
That’s just the writers making excuses for him - or trying to legitimize one of his. It’s BS. There was a reason he didn’t pick OSU, but that isn’t it.
Yep, he chose to go somewhere where the new head coach has an established history of bailing on his teams for other jobs in a consistent manner.

We have a winner!
Emory Jones wins weirdest 6 month recruitment, while Woodbey wins weirdest 6 day recruitment. After that fiasco can't say I'm sad he's gone.
And weirdest 6 hour commitment ceremony.
Ohio, the greatest state in the Union!
I'm interested to see what happens on Woodbey Announcement Season 2.
— Tony Gerdeman (@TonyGerdeman) December 21, 2017
I wish the kid well but I don't think this is going to work out well.
Making an (at least) two year investment in a school you visited for a day and a coaching staff you're unfamiliar with seems risky. And, I don't think Taggert is a very good coach. I could see Florida State falling behind Clemson (who they are already behind) and Miami in the ACC. They are probably a 6-8 win team for most of the time he is in school.
I say at least two years because if he goes for a year and wants to transfer he'll have to sit out another year.
Seriously, is that within the rules.. to have a company basically sponsor your announcement??? whole thing was odd.
Next man up.
It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
Ok so now we can get on with it.
THE Ohio State University is a national powerhouse, with a great coach and The Best Damn Fans In The Land. Don’t you forget it.
Now let’s go kick some ass. Starting in the Cotton Bowl.
Go Bucks. Beat USC.
The Buckeye behind enemy lines...
I'm not worried at all. It would have been nice to add wouldvbey to the secondary but we have a ton of talent waiting to step in. He chose FSU after a 2 week relationship and spurned OSU after a 2 year relationship. Whatever man, good luck down there. It's not as if OSU is defense back U or anything like that... Oh, wait
the stakes just got a lot higher in the Cotton Bowl.
Good luck in Tallahassee Jaiden! On to the next one, Go Bucks! Beat USC!

I upvoted it & don't even know what it's from. My son laughed & said it was from a song.
That was weird as hell but I don't think I'm mad.
Love this crootin shit!
I have followed recruiting for years, but I have not seen a day like this. I would like to visit the careers of Woodbey, Carman, and Jones in three years. Will we be thinking we dodged a big mess or be lamenting what could have been.
Elon Musk: 'I Want to be Clear: I Do Not Respect the SEC'
Thinking the same thing, and betting the results will be all over the board. Swiffer has the most talent, but looks like Seantrel Henderson part 2. I don’t think we’ll miss him long term. Cox is a future 1st round pick, and registers as merely a disappointment because we do have the position covered well enough to be fine. Jones is just odd - has the talent, but not sure he has the mental strength in any sense of the term. Woodbey’s situation is just odd, and as has been said by others, there is something - or several somethings - that nobody is willing to say, for one reason or another. But with the way people say his “announcement” played out, I wouldn’t be surprised to see that he doesn’t do all the things required to get to the next level, which is where his talent likely belongs.
Its been a bad ending to an otherwise objectively great day, overall, and we all have this paradoxical “sour” taste in our mouths tonight. Hopefully, we can land one of the three remaining big fish at OT, and reel in Oweh too (in addition to Smith, who looks to be “in” right now).
would you have the same feeling if a recruit flipped to Ohio state last minute. I don' think you can judge a player solely on the recruitment experience.
I'm kind of laughing inside knowing that a kid like this is going to a place that he visited once ... under a head coach that just went 7-6 at Oregon. Mix that with a team that went 6-6 ... and had to play Delaware State to go 6-6.
Not to mention our recent pedigree for developing defensive backs lol.
Without a position coach, and without a defensive coordinator. Taggart is under .500 career FYI.
It just does not make sense. I'm completely cool with it though and I actually don't wish him good luck on the football field (I do wish him good luck in life though). I don't wish any non buckeye good luck on the field whether they were a one time commit or not. I'm not really concerned about being PC
And was only at Oregon for a year...
First, good luck to the kid.
Second, this day just needs to end for Buckeyes fans. I’ve never been so disappointed to have a top 3 class.
Seriously, why good luck? He shit on tOSU by first wearing another team’s jersey while committed and then went through this circus.
I don’t wish him injury but I certainly don’t wish him success either.
He’s a kid. I would’ve LOVED for him to have joined the Buckeye family, but I’m not going to fault him for doing (or going) whenever him and his family think he will be most happy/successful.
Feel the same about E Jones. Wish he would have gone about it differently and not strung us along, or better yet, still signed, but we know we will be fine.
Its all unfortunate, but no one on here criticizes Dwayne Haskins for reopening his recruitment while committed to Maryland. Not to say he deserved criticism at all, just that these kids are making HUGE decisions that will impact them the rest of their lives.
Better for the kids to do it now, than to regret it later and it be unproductive for all. Maybe it’s the right call for them, maybe not. But can you imagine the pressure of deciding your school while everyone online cheered/jeered your decision?
Well, see, Haskins actually fucked over another school to flip to OSU. So of course we wish him good luck. Think about it. Those 26 Maryland faithful have every right to hope Dwayne flames out.
Not /s. I'm just being realistic
I don’t know that I agree with any of this tired rhetoric. I made the same decision, and went to school more than 1000 miles from home, and never had nearly as much mental angst as anyone here says rightfully exists. It was quite an adjustment when school started, with workouts and classes on top of it all, but let’s be real. It’s not that hard, and certainly not any harder than the choice made by hundreds of thousands of other kids every year. In fact, with the structure, and tutors “helping,” and everything else they “get,” I’d say it’s even easier for the average athlete - especially those at big time money making programs.
Thank You!!! Finally someone is speaking my language.
For years I have been following recruiting and reading comment after comment about how difficult of a decision it is, and oh jee golly, we can't hold it against the kids when they appear to be acting like jack-asses on the recruiting trail.
I was never a ball-player, but I also don't think you have to be to know that this is bull-shit.
You have multiple top-flight academic institutions rolling out the red carpet and offering to let you come to their school for free while you essentially try out for the NFL. You have 50-60 year old coaches calling and texting you everyday to make sure you are ok. It's a coddling process that exists no-where else in our society.
You have one job as a recruit... don't be an ass-hole.
For a little thought excersise, go into an Army recruiters office at 18 years old and commit to joining the team, then try to "flip" the day before you deploy. That's life and death, not "who has the best defensive coordinator" or "the most pretty girls."
I am not lobbying to change the process, although using the word 'commitment' seems kind of silly. But I am lobbying for fans to stop acting like these young men are too delicate to be held accountable for their actions.
You don't want to be a Buckeye?? Godspeed
You want to do your business like an arrogant little prick, You should be ashamed of yourself.
I can't think of a more tragic national signing day. I mean, I'm used to recruits not picking us but I'm not used to 3 recruits flipping at the last second.
I don’t want to say all, but a lot of commits that “flip” let the coaches know before hand. It’s not like the coaches are watching their announcements to find out.
Today was.... it was a day, alright.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Tomorrow is another day. Not just any day ... but it is a day. It will get here. There is no question.
Is Ground Zero going down to FSU too? Let's hope so. That seems pretty important.
Fields of Dreams
Meh, the campus police will do their part to cover up whatever they can.
Seriously eff this dude. To flip after all Ohio State coaches worked so hard on the relationship for so long for a coach that only offered because he complained they didn’t says everything about his maturity and character.
Hope he rnjoys not even sniffing the playoffs. I do not wish him well.
To flip after all Ohio State coaches worked so hard on the relationship for so long for a coach that only offered because he complained they didn’t says everything about his maturity and character.
Hmm...do you say the same thing when Urban flips a committed prospect to OSU?
Yeah you're a huge loser
Harbaugh sits whilst he urinates
Well glad that's over...
I'd still chalk it up as a solid day for the good guys.
Focus on the future Buckeyes, it's all good.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
After that lil ordeal I actually feel good about our day. Kinda put things in perspective.... just cuz a guy has stars, doesn't mean he is truly what we want.... if he is bringing that kind of rodeo clown show....Im ok with it all going to Tall-E-hassa.
Right. But make no mistake - stars is definitely what we want. Let's not start turning into MGOBlog where they've resigned themselves to claiming that stars don't mean shit. Lol
more than solid I think

We're gonna win with you or without you.....
Screw him no class. Didn’t even mention OSU or Urban during his announcement.
This. Screw him. Ohio State couldhave pursued others. They invested in him for a long time and he flips after getting an offer he had to ask for? Total dick.
Meh. All's fair in love and war. Meyer has flipped a recruit or two in his time. Shoe's on the other foot this time. C'est la vie !
I don't understand it at all, but I am glad today is over.
According to ESPN, Penn St has closed the talent gap considerably.. which never really came to fruition until Parsons committed, again.
It's crap, but I will say this - Franklin has been portrayed as an excellent recruiter while Meyer is deemed to be on the "back nine" of his career, and maybe Meyer lost some guys today to other schools. But Meyer has never lost a recruit to a MAC school the way Franklin did.
Carman choosing Clemson makes sense.. Forrest Gump's (Dabo) mouth just kept "runnin' and runnin' and runnin'" and it worked in his favor.
Wait..so because of uncertainty about a coach he really liked (Schiano) - who ended up staying at OSU- he opts for a school whose superstar head coach abruptly left and has a brand new coach and fluctuating assistant staff? Seems legit.
Taggbag still hasn't hired a Defensive Backs coach. The whole thing is just laughable.
Maybe he'a letting Jaiden hire him?
Not exactly how we wanted today to go.
His reasoning sounds like bs. More like more competition ran him off. Good luck in Fla.
Go Bucks! TTUN tears are best! Beat Wisky!!!
Dec 29th can't come soon enough, over this recruiting crap.
Was tuned in tonight like
It kills me to say this, but we’ve been blown out 3 times in the last year. Elite talent isn’t going to commit to that. We lost 2/3 of our 5 star commits because we have lost a fair amount of our appeal. We are now a clear #3 behind Clemson and Alabama in terms of cache.
I think a year of Haskins running a real offense without 20 QB keepers will go a long way toward reestablishing us as the place to be.
This kid just committed to Florida St ...
I agree. And if Georgia didn’t make the playoffs they wouldn’t be where they are at now. But how they played helped get them recruits this year
This and the shitty SEC east. UGA is a good team but their record is inflated. Worst division in the power 5.
It doesn’t kill me to say this. You’re just a dumbass !!
Go root for Clemson and Alabama then! They deserve you and you deserve them
Guy bitches about QB runs. Guy's username is directly referring to QB runs. Got it
To everyone freaking out about these three weird flips . . . we won't know for a couple of years if these were significant losses. Right now, we would only know to be disappointed if/when the staff realky wants a kid and the kid slips away. Well, in the case of Jones and Woodbey, it's not clear the staff still wanted them at this point. And all three flips were weird as hell, with lots of drama and nonsense. So, I'll hold off on freaking out . . .
I’m generally under the impression that most schools do some shady things in recruiting. Even Ohio state. But I’m going to say there’s about a 0.01% chance that nothing shady occurred here. 1. recruiting is about relationships. 2. dream schools usually get spurned. It’s almost as predictable as #middlehatcurse 3. This is just way too much like ole miss. I know it’s a little different because of the FSU brand, but getting a kid who visited once that week over hometown legacy school and the one he’s been committed to for over a year that’s a defensive back factory? Nah. Shady.
Our bag men need to start ponying up.
Agree, this situation reeks of bs
Definitely something we've not been clued in on.
The must have been some serious negative recruiting and cash being brought to OSU recruits over that last month.
has the whole world GONE CRAZY?! AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RULES?!?
He’s butthurt becaUse of the Schiano thing about a month ago? Whatever. Clearly he has other issues like he would have to compete with the other 5 stars we have for a spot. But to basically beg for Florida State to offer him with a coach that couldn’t hold Urbans jock. Florida State will have the same record next year as they did this year. And they got the number 1 rb last year. Buckeyes will be fine. Look what happened to seantrel heanderson. Clown did the same thing and what happened to him?
Almost has to be more to this story. Eh, whatever.
Man, for all of the tremendous "gets" today, there have been some big misses, dating back to Cox a couple of weeks ago. Everything is cool, and today's haul is damned amazing, but it still makes you wonder what the heck is going on? Recruiting is the one thing that UFM does best by a large margin, and to lose kids while rounding third base is discomforting.
I don't know. They were all three bizarre, drama-filled deals. If these kids had picked Ohio State, all that would have come with the package.
I get the feeling Jones was the leader in this class, and when he waivered, they all began seriously considering other options. Unfortunate, but still a loaded class. Hopefully we can get another tackle and DE (or two) and I’ll feel really good.
Further proof this is BS. No chance in xichigan that the Florida Gators new QB signee has ever been the leader of the STILL #1 class in the United States of America. That would be Urban F. Meyer.
Cox, Jones, Carmen, Woodbey. The infamous...
Self-created recruiting violation also prevented #7 over-all player, Parsons. The kid named his dog, Brutus!
Like I said in my other post.
With the early signing period, there aren't too many people realistically left on our board. Other than Smith .... who do we realistically have a shot at? Not sure I like this whole early signing thing. Especially with how today played out.
Our board will change. It's a numbers game. Still a number of 4 and 5 star guys who are waiting till Feb that will want to play at top 10 schools and only so many spots left on those schools rosters. I'd imagine our board will expand to include some kids that were barely on or not even on our radar for early signing.
As if we needed more reasons to hate Clemson, Florida, and Florida State. Just shocked we had 2 flips to programs coming off terrible seasons and fired their coach. On to USC and hoping early NFL departures aren't too significant this year
I missed it. What did Florida do?
That wasn’t Florida’s fault on Jones.

I watched about 2 minutes of the livestream thinking it would be interesting and was vastly wrong. Thought he was good kid and what a f-ing circus of BS. Glad he picked another school really after watching that disaster. Get off my lawn and do not interfere with my internet porn.
Kid is a piece of work. Best of luck.
You know what? Fuck Jones and fuck Woodbey. I was a man of my word by the time I was 15. I said what I was doing and I stuck to it and I wasn’t a drama queen. So I will drink your downvotes like a fine wine. Fuck the both of them and I will laugh if they fail and not feel bad in the least.
Glad someone said what I was thinking. I get that kids are sheltered these days but GRFO with that he’s a kid bullshit. At his age he knows what his word and commitment mean. He just has no character. Period.
Times have changed my friend.
I’m not that old. And I didn’t need parenting, schools, or any outside source to tell me not to be a scumbag showboat and waste the time of people trying to change my future for entertainment value. So if I wasn’t clear enough before, fuck the both of these guys straight to Last Chance U. Will smile like the Grinch if I read the stories of their failure. No regrets.
No downvotes from me, Bromigo.
Lol! Damn those 17-year old kids!
I know that every fanbase has Brohio's in it (sick name man! Bro down! Frat!) but this is exactly why people hate on OSU fans. No connection to reality.
Woodbey committed to play for Schiano, and in turn Schiano committed to coach him. Once it turned out Schiano was not honoring his half of that deal, then the obligation is broken.
Also remember, one party is being paid in this transaction, and the other is not (well, at least not officially)
I think the argument with Schiano leaving is overcome by the fact that he ultimately didn't and that result was cemented long before yesterday when this "kid" could choose to sign. The media plays a role by televising these charades; we play a role by click baiting every article written. I know my 12 year old understands basic concepts like integrity, honor, keeping your word and basically acting like a decent young man. Why are these athletes not held to the same standard IF NOT HIGHER due to the impact their notoriety has? Is it everyone? No. I'm sure there are many athletes who were great high school players who simply choose which school to play ball at, quietly sent in their paperwork yesterday, and will report to school at the first opportunity. Good on them. This kind of crap makes me seriously wonder for our future society and where its heading.
If coaches can be mercenaries sold to the highest bidder, why can't the players who are doing it for (somewhat) free?
Keep in mind that once you enroll at a school, you are pretty much locked in unless you go to JuCo for a year. Whereas your coach can leave on a whim for a better salary. Why would you sign up to play for the fool who is TRYING to leave your school?
Your point about Schiano not leaving is entirely moot- he didn't leave because the school pulled his job offer lol. Not like he had a change of heart and said he loves OSU too much to leave.
By the way you are a huge loser

These damn kids and their flips. You know what they should do? They should have a period where these kids can sign earlier than this to prevent these kinds of things from happening...
It was moved up from February. Move it to September doesn’t or won’t change anything.
Haha! I was thinking the same thing...
Losing big games and not being in the playoff ... playing innovative ball ... and playing true freshman (Dobbins only played because of injured Weber) ... all matter to top recruits. The Buckeyes just had Cox, Jones, and Woodbey de-commit ... and couldn't keep top Ohio recruit Carmen ... AND created their own recruiting violation in missing on top DE Parsons.
Cox, Jones, Woodbey, Carmen, Parsons ... nope. Ouch.
Yup! They must be playing some new innovative offense and defense at programs that literally went 6-6 this past year.
This shit sucks, not gna sugar coat it I'm pissed. I'm pissed that Jones and Woodbey weren't man enough to tell the fans and urban they wanted to decommit. Shitty they used OSU as a place holder. I hope they look back in 4 years while Haskins is going pro, and Johnson, and realize how much of an idiot they were for picking two other schools. SMH... Woodbey doesn't even know who his DC will be!!! Doesn't make sense
I'm not sure that Jones actually did want to decommit. I think Urban basically decommited from him
This guy seems classless and not high on good character. Those traits equal a perfect fit for Florida State. Didn't make sense in the least bit. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'll take guys who are of good character, low on drama and truly want to be Buckeyes over clowns like Woodbey or Carmen who play a game for attention and then at the end of the day pretty much say "screw you" to Urban and his staff. I'm very pleased with the guys that have signed and think we could still land 3 or 4 more solid players by February.
We have to remember WHEN these top recruits originally committed. WHEN ... was when the Buckeyes were flying high and had high hopes with new OC K Wilson. Meyer then kept the ball in JT's hands and played boring football ... and lost ... and missed out on the playoff. But guess who IS in the playoff and playing well? Georgia and Clemson. Florida also has high hopes in getting a new coach and will play a true freshman.
Only AFTER the Buckeyes struggled ... did the visits start tailing off and these top recruits finally de-committed ... or didn't sign (Carmen).
Hope Meyer learns the lesson ... and let's go of the Tim Tebow offense ... and starts playing top talented freshman. Give the O to K Wilson and Ryan Day!!! Dabo might be right. Meyer might be losing his "juice".
Excellent point. Even though this is just one recruiting cycle and a few potential top flight recruits. These are still potential trends to remember. Unless your the hot program, recruits notice when only certain freshmen play. Whether or not that freshman is the best player, some top recruits pay attention to that. You may not like that, but players want to play. Whether you love JT or not, people all over the country could see Urban blatant loyalty to Jt regardless of his performance during some games. We've had some very talented freshman not see the field during Urbans time here, simply because they were freshmen. I'm not saying that approach was incorrect, just saying some top flight recruits may not like that approach. We can say all we want about we'll be fine. I'll say this, you can only miss on so many game changing recruits for so many classes. In this playoff system, those big time misses are choosing other playoff teams. Let's just hope this doesn't become a trend for the good guys.
No. According to some folks, Urban doesn't want Haskins playing next year because he doesn't run the read option like JT. I know it sounds ludicrous to leave an NFL-level arm on the bench but apparently Meyer won't tweak the offense at all.
That's literally what some guys are saying
Well, "some folks" and "some guys" have a stellar reputation of never being wrong !
I believe you, and really hope you are wrong. UV for and honest opinion we don’t want to hear
So let me get this straight. A dual threat QB, who probably wants the ball. Would get annoyed running it or passing?? At the same time would rather play for a program that has been bad for years?? I think you are just trying to push your narrative.
I don’t think running QBs want to run it 25 times.
Maybe not 25 times, but they want the ball in their hands. They can make things happen at any given time by their feet or arms.
Yes he’s a kid but someone is giving him terrible advice. To bad, for him really. Not much comparison between the two schools and recent development of NFL talent. Better to not start than have a kid not 100% committed. Good luck and FSU. Next up!
One man that has a mind and knows it can always beat ten men who haven't and don't.
Ohio State 42
Those are the number of current nfl players.
I wonder if the rumor of grades being a problem is true. You don't commit to a school that doesn't have your position coach under normal circumstances...
I said it on his announcement thread. Seems to be something up. The way he handled this, he seems pissed at Ohio State like there is bad blood. Tweets and everything were all confirmed today. The more you look into it, the more sense it doesn’t make.
Clemson student. GO BUCKS!
This and Jones selections make absolutely no sense to me. FSU offers a scholly 8 days ago and Woodbey goes there when the school cared nothing about his recruitment until a new coach comes in. Schiano stays as does Coombs and he goes across country to play for an offensive minded coach.
Jones on the other hand makes a little bit more sense - quicker projected starting position, offensive minded head coach. This recruitment started extremely late. Mullen must have promised the farm to try and get him in there. However you’re in the SEC and have middle tier recruits right now. Sure they get one or two guys who turn out to be good but still unless you bring in top tier OL and WR not sure how much success they’ll have with UGA, Bama, Auburn, and even S. Carolina looking much better.
For these guys who are 100% committed but waver why not wait until the Feb. signing day. Seems like Woodbey’s announcement was a cluster and from what I saw, may have been he was still deciding up until the end.
These last minute recruitments and commitments are mind boggling.
Trust the Bucks.
Beat the Trojans.
Good grief. “The coach I liked who has almost as much experience as a head coach as an assistant might not stay for four years doing something he’s overqualified to do, so I am going to play for the guy who just left a program and hasnt stayed anywhere more than 4 years.” A DB who doesn’t want to play for a program that has been sending them to The League with assembly line precision for the last 3-4 years, and consistently for years before that, as well. Good luck, young man.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
I know. This thing with Woodbey and Jones defies logic. Those two would have been better off at OSU than in Florida. But, I am honestly not that sorry we missed on those two. The two that bothers me the most is missing on Cox and Carman. Cox is an absolute stud and will make any team much better. Losing Carman stings because he is an Ohio guy and a person who would have been treasured just like Katzenmoyer or Pace. Being from Ohio and doing great things in Ohio make you an icon. I think Carman had some issues with maturity and going out of state just may get those kind of things under control.
Can you believe, though, that we see problems after getting the number two recruiting class in the nation so far. Urban is working his tail off getting the recruits that will continue to make OSU a power in football. Recruiting is not over either. There may be a few surprises come January and February. Even if there isn't that big name, just remember Vincent, Gill, Ruckert, Mitchell, Johnson, M. Jones, Babb, Proctor, Snead, Wray, Smith, Togiai, Gant, Jackson, Pope, Teague, Banks, Brown, Baldwin, Williams, and Hooker.
Meyer should just have a no visits policy for committed recruits. You visit other schools, we will consider you no longer committed and recruit over you. tOSU offer should not be used as a place holder while a recruit waltzes around all over the country.
If his main reason for choosing another school was because of coach Schiano, while disappointing as a fan to lose a highly rated recruit, the reality is that it's all fair in love and war....recruiting is a war. and also in life. As a player, your everyday coach is either the OC or DC and his assistants.
Today was a major letdown. Do these kids know something we don't? Am I looking too much into this? I was hearing greatest class ever and now it's not even best just for this year...
"The people, who try to make this world worse... are not taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness. ~ Bob Marley
He picked Florida State??? Hahahahahaha! Good luck down there bro. The only thing relevant about that clown show of a school in the last decade was Jameis Winston, who should never have even had an opportunity to play after all his off the field issues.
Don't wish him any luck whatsoever...... Seems to me he wanted to go anywhere other than OSU. Was RTing other kids that didn't choose OSU all morning. Hope he enjoys fried chicken......... And 6-6 football seasons.
That's ok. I'll take a "Boogie" Knight and a jelly donut to go, any day over this kid.
Regardless of how one tries to spin it, this was not a good day from a publicity perspective for UFM and the Buckeyes. Every major sports site seemingly has a headline or story about the Buckeye's recruiting losses and the subsequent gains by UGA and Clemson. When one considers the time and effort invested in the recruits we lost today, the results are definitely highly discouraging. Hopefully, Bama and BM will bring those programs back to earth. A CFP win or championship for either UGA or Clemson will provide the winner with more momentum which will make it even more difficult for TOSU to recruit in Ga., and other parts of the Southeast next year.
Downvote this guy however much you like, but he's right. ESPN's biggest NCAAF headines are "Meyer 'status' helps Clemson" and "after Ohio State incident, Parsons picks PSU". Clearly you don't get the whole story in those titles, but ESPN is FEISTING at the opportunity to tear apart OSU, even if it means "status" = 5 years old and "incident" = recruit took a picture with the wrong people and violated the cream cheese booklet.
What does ESPN have to gain by tearing us apart?
Priority #1: Beat Michigan
People actually watch ESPN and give a shit what they say???? Ha!
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Seems like we were recruiting a lot of headcases this year.
This recruiting class still amazes me though...so many good players sent us their signature today.
There was a saying in the Tressel era (I can't remember the player who quoted it). "Play for the Buckeyes or lose to the Buckeyes."
All we can do is give a Bosa shrug, move on, and keep beating other teams.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
This is the oddest part of the Woodbey flip to FSU for me...Woodbey is 25% of the FSU signees. Their class is in such disarray they only have 4 signees and 5 other 'hard commits'.
Something is going on.. for real.
I'm wondering if he actually lost the option to sign with OSU by not re-affirming his commitment. Timing makes sense with Tyreke Johnson committing, similar to Baldwin & Jones. That would explain the last minute flip and his grudge today and shady recruiting tweet a week or two ago. I'm all for recruits exploring their options, but on the other hand a school should explore their options this close to signing.
I know the staff continued to pursue, I just think it's interesting that all involved in the twitter "fight" on the program ended up elsewhere ---- Parsons, Carman, and Woodbey
Herbstreit also was something else: Right, in saying that sharing their opinions not only could but would hurt them at Ohio State. When Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer was asked at Monday’s press conference whether a critique of the program could have hurt a recruit, he said it could.
I think I’m going through the various stages of grief. I already went through sad and angry, but im now reaching relief. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if many of these kids are what we really want, Cox perhaps excluded. He committed, decimmitted as he should, and chose the local school. Carman in theory didn’t screw OSU, but if he honestly was swayed even a bit my Dabo and his negative recruiting, that’s telling. I want the kids that come here in part out of respect for Meyer not negative recruiting them, not the naive guy that falls for it. Woodbey and jones I almost have no words for, but anybody that would go about their recruiting in this fashion are likely guys we really don’t want. Tons of talent was lost, I get that, but tons of talent committed as well, and the right talent. In short, I want guys like Taron Vincent, calling out Woodbey for his disloyalty as a commit to OSU, not the guy Vincent was calling out.
What a disaster yesterday was for recruiting outside of Cameron Brown. Sheesh.
Didn't watch any of it ... but this doesn't pass the smell test.
Success - it's what you do with what you've got. - Woody Hayes
Wish the young man good luck, but after watching and listening to his dad during the live feed last night, I'm not at all surprised. It's tough to lose a 4-star kid, but this may be a blessing in the long run.
You win some you lose some. We found that out twice. It was our second loss and our lack of an explanation.
Top notch coaches in an elite program get head coaching offers, even a teenager should get that. tOSU is a Safety pipeline to the NFL ... but Florida is nice in the winter so whatever. I'm not a fan that cares much about recruiting on a micro level ... the bucks will still have a highly ranked class right?
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
This was a crazy recruiting year. Did we just lose these kids at the end, were there other factors not discussed - did we shut them down, did we go after the wrong kids from the start, did the staff totally misjudge the level of interest, did the staff burn out at the end? How do you lose kids in the program for over a year?
Not sure what went wrong, but not the way to close and not a good look for OSU. The lead recruiting story is how we lost these top players. I think the coaching staff needs to review what happened and make sure that this doesn't happen again. Its a shame that we have such a great class, but are left with a bad taste in our mouths.
Oh well, Coombs has a new Hooker to develop. I'll put my money on OSU being just fine.
Is that your goal - Just fine ?
Better than the sky is falling ridiculousness that is going on, especially over 17 year olds.
Just fine works for those who won't watch the playoffs or have presents to return. Call me extreme but not competing for the biggest prize is a disappointment and this makes 2 years in a row.
They made the playoffs last year genius.
Seriously ? We were a joke getting owned again by Dabo. But Urban got to see his guy run run run while they laughed that we had nothing more.
8 more days until that crutch is out of the rotation.
DV away. I am looking towards the future.
Gotta love eSECpn....a few negative headlines about us, of course...
Well maybe Jones and Woodbey can help them stay bowl eligible. They are weak.
And Georgia’s pitch to recruits was just come where you only have to play 1 tough game a year because we are playing more and more FCS teams every year. That schedule is an embarrassment to football in 2018.
Jaiden, thanks for the memories. Oh wait...
Enjoy Florida State (sucks) big guy.
15-1 is SWEET!
Fantastic decision, young man. You decommitted from one school that was going to lose an assistant coach for dumpster fire whose HC just left for another school. That's the kind of decision-making we do not want playing safety for the Buckeyes.
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
Using Schiano wanting to leave was a cop out excuse. Schiano eventually leaving is worst kept secret in CFB
What I have learned following recruiting: Never, ever, trust a 4/5 star kid's 'commitment' until he signs on the dotted line. Until they do, I absolutely don't trust a word they say - especially if it includes: 'I am 100% committed to Ohio State' statements/tweets.
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
he older I get, the more I become a " Wake me up on signing day" type. I just cant get behind the ego trip, and I don't want to be part of the ego feeding. I am only 32, and I feel 50 years older than these kids. Integrity and morals have really gone down hill fast in this country. Honestly I think social media plays a HUGE part in this behavior.,
My guess is the kid found out he wont have to go to class in Tallahassee.
You can't blame him at all. When the person who recruited you is clearly looking at other jobs and definitely won't be there for 4 years, why would you not look at other schools?
Position coaches/coordinators stay at schools for how many years on average? 3-4? And you only get them for 3-4 if you were a Freshman during their first year.
Naive on the part of recruits and their families to choose a school based off of the position coach.
1). Schiano is Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach- not some irrelevent position coach.
2). Schiano is the one who secured this kid's recruitment. He committed to play for Schiano so once he finds out that commitment isn't mutual, then re-opening your commitment is a logical next step.
He committed to play for Schiano
Priorities probably a little out of whack. Coaches come and go but the School isn't going anywhere. As long as Urban is still at the helm you can be reasonably confident that the football program will recover from staff losses and remain healthy.
If Schiano is the one who sat in your parents' living room and delivered you the offer, which it sounds like he was, then his planned departure is ample grounds to look elsewhere.
If your boss that recruited you to a company leaves, but the CEO is still there, does that mean you're not going to look around at all because you're 'reasonably confident' the company will remain healthy?
As for the school not going anywhere, you're right and I personally don't think FSU was a great alternative, but young kids are rash. People are mad that he left us at the alter but those who are irrationally angriest on here (not you fyi, scroll up there's people throwing F-bombs at a 17 year old getting 25 upvotes) don't understand the first thing about being recruited because they're bums who never played real football.
Then are relationships so important?
We are getting to a point in recruiting where more kids are going to "Commit" twice than once.
We live in an attention seeking society where everyone wants to be told "Congratulations" and how awesome they are every waking moment.
We live in an attention seeking society where everyone wants to be told "Congratulations" and how awesome they are every waking moment.
Recruiting has become a circus because of overzealous fans who feel the need to intrude on the decision of a 17 year old kid. I think a lot of what these kids are doing is stupid(see Woodbey's marathon announcement) but I can't get too mad...if fans didn't drive the recruiting hype train we wouldn't be seeing a lot of what we are.
They already do "Commit" more than once dude..
Verbal and written commitments are two different things, and the first does not necessitate the second will happen. Just like in business, until it's on paper the deal isn't done.
Right, I'm aware of that.
And that is the problem. I guess you could say my problem is with the word "Commitment"
If the kids just came out and said "Right now, Ohio State is the leader in my recruitment," then I would feel much better about it. But that doesn't carry the same reaction and "Congratulations!" on social media as "IM COMMITTED TO OHIO STATE #SAVAGE18"
Sort of like when coaches are signed (committed) for 4 years to a written contract, then after 2 they leave to go get a bigger paycheck?
How do you feel about coaches pulling offers from kids, or more often telling kids to find another school when we have a shot at a better recruit?
Urban told a qb to find another offer who had the Block O tattoed on his shoulder after we had offered him..
careful now, you'll upset the homers.
Woodbey reminds me of the kids that are on that show "Last Chance U"....if it was grades or whatever that kept us from getting him, then I can see this happen to him as well...Get ready in 2 years to see him on Netflix!!
He was upset that a position coach might leave for a P5 head coaching job, so he signs with a team that the head coach just abandoned and, in addition, just hired a head coach that just abandoned all of his recruits after only one year at that school. Yes, it appears he was seeking stability all right.
What is amazing to me is what changed at the last hour?
Enjoy the dumpsterfire down there kiddo
Urban is getting his butt kicked in recruiting recently. Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Texas and Clemson have either flipped or beat out Urban in landing highly rated recruits. In particular Dabo "owns" Urban. Clemson and Dabo have beaten OSU & Urban twice in bowl games including getting shout out in last year's playoff game. And to add insult to injury, Dabo graps a 5 Star OL Carman from Ohio from Urban. May be Dabo is right, Urban is on the back 9.
I guess no one remembers when Mike Weber signed his NLOI and his position coach bolted before the ink was dry. God, I fucking hate hypocrites and homers
What really is crazy to me is that FSU doesn't even have a DB coach...Whoever they get as a DB coach will have a solid freshman safety, thats for sure...
College football recruiting is the shadiest of the shady. Kids don't choose a school because of facilities...coaches...it's all about who gives them stuff.
