What transpired Sunday doesn't trump the reasons to celebrate from the night before. Could've called it quits after the Iowa loss.
Fully deserved and undisputed 2017 B1G Champ Ohio State Buckeyes.

"FREAKING IOWA" got me laughing in my cubicle.

Not a lot to do in the cornfields huh
I thought cow tipping was all the rage
I loved that small little addition on that chart. I literally laughed out loud and then said to myself... Freaking Iowa! as I shook my head.
Shit Happens Bum Juice
Especially when you notice who they shared their last title with.
So we are basically tied with the rest of the conference for titles the past 10 and 25 years? Yeah, pretty good.
42 for Michigan
37 for us.
five years to go....
Love the titles for both teams most recently. My oh my how the mighty have fallen
Technically, but I take solace in the fact Ohio State didn't join the Big 10 until 1912...by that time Michigan had already won 6 Big 10 titles. So we are up by 1 if you level the playing field.
I still got my big ten champs t shirt. One of the guys I play basketball with every day is a Wisconsin grad and I bet he wishes he had a big ten champs t shirt.
He actually has 3 of them over just the last 5 years.

Should’ve clarified the 2017 version. Didn’t think I needed to
Here here! Nothing wrong with a Big Ten Title and a beatdown of the Trojans.
Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.
Thanks Chris! Much needed perspective from you...and the Coach!
Most Recent B1G Titles:
Ohio State: 2017
And they still lost to us in 2004.
And it wasn’t outright...and they lost the Rose Bowl for the second year in a row.
A B1G Championship should be the team's first goal every year, so to accomplish that is special. As a fan, I'll admit that if we're not in the mix for a possible NC it seems like a bit of a let down, but perspective shows what this team accomplished is still very, very good and they should feel proud. Only 1 team a year can call themselves B1G Champions and it feels great to be a Buckeye!!
I disagree. The first goal is to beat TTUN. The 2nd goal (necessary for the 3rd) is to win the division. The 3rd goal is to win the conference, followed by making the playoffs (4) and winning a national championship(5). All of those goals can be difficult individually. In the 6 years under Meyer, and therefore 27 of those goals possible (5 per year, less 3 lost due to 2012 post season ban), to have achieved 18 of them is pretty amazing. (TTUN of course is 0 for 30 during that same period).
Well said. Suspect Coach would have pretty much the same set.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
I love that we're B1G champs. That seems to have eluded us more than I'd like.
It's also easy to forget how good Minnesota used to be.
3rd in big ten titles historically but 0 in 50 years.
Love this perspective. Any reasonable fan would have laughed at you post-Iowa if you said we'd win the Big Ten and finish #5 in the playoff rankings at the end of the regular season.
I'll never forget how fun the 2010 Rose Bowl win was. That team lost to USC and Purdue, but beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl and the Ohio State fanbase was ecstatic. I'll be in a similar mood after we beat USC on 12/29!
We've really got it made.
The Ohio State fanbase was ecstatic.
Yeah, because it was Jim Tressel's first big game win in like 4 years. I was sick of hearing Jim Rome and espn talking shit about "Ohio State does not win big games, they just beat on a bunch of mac schools, herrdurr."
It certainly isn't cheapened for me. I love the fact that we won the conference. If we have a few ichigan-tyoe years, we'll all be praying for more B1G titles.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Agree 100%, thinking about it though; lets say we HAD to lose one game on our schedule in conference (every team minus UCF lost one) this year which one would it be? I would rather lose to Iowa (not by over 30) and beat UM, MSU, PSU, Wisky, while not losing to a truly inferior opponent like Illi, Rutgers, Maryland, or Nebraska. Now I wish they did win at Iowa, but in the grand scheme of it (at Iowa, prime time, alternate uni's) I will take a Big 10 Championship and be "bitterly disappointed" about the playoff selection committee's choice.
If you don’t appreciate this title, do me a favor: build a time machine and go back to 1989, stay until 2000 and tell me if your perspective has changed.
What is being lost here is that our guys have a chance to slay the USC dragon and send one of our GOATS out a winner in his home state.
It's been over 16,000 days since the Buckeyes have beat the Trojans!
NY6 Bowl and chance to settle a debt with USC
A LOT of achievements this season: knocked off #2 PSU, won the B1G by means of knocking off the only undefeated Power-5 Conference team, whooped ranked MSU, and, of course, beat Michigan.
"Freaking Iowa" - love it.
This article is very much appreciated, Chris. I sort of resent that fact that the CFP selection show was the next day, regardless of the outcome - meaning, even if the Bucks had been selected. It sucked all of the air out of the room and none of the conf champs got to celebrate their achievement for even 24 hours! I wish they could have waited a few days and let each of those games exist as the main story for just a few minutes.
OSU Buckeyes, 2017 B1G Champs. Outright, and undisputed. Damn straight.
Sadly, I don't think this would actually happen though. The news cycle on any intervening days would be completely dominated by analysis of the teams in the running for the playoffs. The CFP has rendered conference championships less important than they used to be.
And we all laugh at the days it's been since UM has beaten tOSU.
Beating TTUN and winning B1G titles ALWAYS take the sting off not making the playoffs or winning a national title. I have always felt pity for any fan who has the "national title or bust" mentality. They will never be happy. Ever. They're like some 80-year-old lady who is miserable and angry toward the neighborhood kids all the time. I wont be that kind of fan. I am angry the committee left us out over an undeserving Bama team but I am not angry at the program or Urban or the players. Never will be.
Too many of y'all arent enjoying what Urban has accomplished and THAT is what is sad.

Assuming Alabama doesn’t win the natty — and I don’t think they will — we’ll have one more championship this year than they will
Right now we have two more.
My most favorite moment of B1G championship was the reaction of J.K. Dobbins to winning the MVP award. Priceless. So proud of that young man and that entire team. It's a great time to be a Buckeye.
Buckeye born and bred. Buckeye till I'm dead.
Big-time season anyway you cut it. All those guys left early again and the Bucks still find a way to come out as Big Ten Champs and get another big win against our rival. A win over USC would be icing on the cake.
For more perspective, I came up during the Cooper era. 13 seasons. 3 Big Ten Titles. ONLY ONE that wasn't soiled by a loss to TUN.
Win over TUN + Big Ten Championship = Elite Buckeyes Team
You've got barbecue back there?
I grew up in the late fifties where it was common to step on Michigans neck every year, like today I loved it and was used to it, and then 1969 happened, I was going to Vietnam sitting in my mom's kitchen chair in front of the black and white tv, my 3 brothers and I just sat there and stared at the tv for must have been an hour after that loss...... and then came the Cooper years DAMN Cooper was a great coach but his karma was lost somewhere in his ride from ASU to OSU.... and my wife thought I had gone NUTS sunday when that southern belle bent us over (still bitter)........ but after I too had time to get over the big green weenie..... I finally figured out that the GOOD Lord gave me another gift AN OUTRIGHT BIG TEN TITLE....... I went to the Buckeyes store today I purchased 2 BIG championship Jersey's and Saturday, I will bury them at 2 of my brothers graves...... CAUSE THEY WERE BUCKEYES TOO ! My other brother was lost in the pacific in 1991............. LOVE THEM BOYS THAT WEAR THE UNIFORM OF THE BUCKEYE !
Wow, talk about perspective!!
I appreciate and love a B1G title which I believe to be a satisfying achievement. My main desire was for this team to win the B1G. This became even more true after the Iowa debacle. In these days a conference title has been devalued. But it shouldn't. The first goal should be win the league and let the rest take care of itself.
This year is kind of like the good old days. Beat Michigan, win the league, and go play USC. Unfortunately, it's not in the Rose Bowl his time around.
Also well said!
I just want to say thank you for getting rid of the asterisk! History is written by the winners and I, as an all time winner, do not recognize Gene Smiths overly willing and completely unnecessary vacation of our 2010 season!
The 2012 Buckeyes are The team to be emulated.
Meyer has had some extraordinary teams here, with and without championships, but a year without winning the B1G championship is just gd cold pizza.
Winning a conference championship will only be placed on a pedestal once again when it's a golden ticket to the playoffs.
Behold the chunky whoop ass.
Glanced and misread the title as B1G Resignation (i.e., indifference), which would have been just as accurate.

The playoff miss hurts, but not wholly unexpected.
But I can honestly say that when I look back upon this season, the words "2017 B1G Conference Champions" will be at the forefront.
I hear the players really enjoyed and relished winning the B1G Title, that’s enough for me!
I can only hope we as fans help they as players enjoy the B1G Ten title that they have earned and we will cherish! Go Bucks Beat The Men of Troy! Oh and God Bless an entire evening with the USC Cheerleaders! (sorry - yet MAN!)
