I hate the fact that we got snubbed but it's refreshing to hear our HC take the higher road.
Beat the living crap out of USC
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Seattle Sounders 2019 MLS Champions
I heard that's what leaders do.
You mean they don't get on national television, take shots at other teams, whine, then contradict themselves in said whining? Weird.
(Saban has been quoted as saying he believes you should have to win your conference to be considered for the CFP)
Saban is a very tiny and very bitter man. A southern Jim Harbaugh if you will.
The only good thing about The Game is winning it - Urban Meyer
To be fair, Saban has an obligation to his program and his kids to make a case for why they should get an opportunity. I saw his interview on ESPN, and I didn’t find anything he said offensive. The lobbying for his program is part of the job, just like it is for Urban. I used to think Saban was a jack ass, but I’ve grown to like him over the years. He can be entertaining, and there’s no denying that he is a great coach. I think the man just hates to lose, which I can appreciate.
"It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer." - Albert Einstein
Agreed, Josh02. Imo, not that it mattered in the least, Saban argued more passionately for his team than Meyer did for Ohio State. It seems like Meyer is always VERY concerned with how his words are interpreted. Conversely, Saban presents like he doesn't give a rip about what anyone thinks, and he promoted his team aggressively. When asked if the Buckeyes should be in the playoff, Meyer essentially said, 'Oh, that's not for me to decide but I think we've earned the right to be given a shot in the tournament', and then he talked about the two wins over top 4 teams and the top 12 win over MSU. Now, that's my interpretation of Meyer's statement, but that's basically what I heard him say. Saban, on the other hand, really pushed his agenda, and if that agenda offended another coach or hurt someone's feelings I get the distinct impression that Nick Saban couldn't care less. I think Utah/Florida Meyer is different from Ohio State Meyer. I don't think Utah/UF Meyer was necessarily better, but I definitely believe he was different. It matters not. On to USC... a great matchup between two of the most tradition-laden, storied, and winning programs in college football history.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
You reap what you sow....which is my way of saying I think Meyer's approach is gonna be better than Sabans over the long haul, which is what really matters. These next few years OSU is more stacked in talent than ever, and Bama is as talented there as always, so the next 4 years will tell the tale between Urban and Saban a bit more.
not really - saban is a lot older than meyer. if urban chooses to, he can be an effective coach a LOT longer than saban - in 4 years saban will be past 70 (urban will not have hit 60 yet) and how long after that before saban loses his prowess as big-time coach?
I think Urban put forth a passionate and well reasoned argument for the Buckeyes. One thing he stated was the beating of 2 top 4 teams, and how unique that was. But it wasn't. Auburn also did so, and they were left out. Granted, Ohio State also had a conference championship.
The difference was that Saban was more than willing to directly attack Ohio State ("if we lost to a 5-5 team by 30 points, you wouldn't even be talking to me"). If Urban commented on Mercer, Tennessee, MissSt, and LSU ar state that also could also throttle Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, and Fresno State, etc.
Urban took the high road, and I'm fine with that. I wanted the CFP and a chance to play Clemson, but you know what? Don't freaking lose to Iowa by 30. You get what you get.
If they truly have a competitive spirit, they will blow SC off the field, send the Seniors out winners, and provide a springboard for the younger guys...and the fans can enjoy talking about "what might have been".
And this just in...individuals completely sacrificing their (or any remaining) integrity for the corporate good. Sacrificing individual integrity for corporate good is always an individual decision but it really doesn't make these people more than politico schills in the end. I know Urban is arrogant, I've felt it face to face, but he seems to be trying to be honest with his emotions and integrity.
You should have found one thing offensive: he actually said they scheduled Mercer because they couldnt find anyone else to play them. That is a straight up lie and we all know it as dozens of schools of better ilk would either jump at a chance to play Bama to up their resume or would do it to take the payday. What probably makes it tricky to some degree is their insistence on scheduling an extra bye in November. But you know what, if the Committee never holds them accountable keep doing it. But that doesn’t mean Satan needs to come on tv and lie to us like we are all imbeciles.
You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.
It makes for a compelling recruiting pitch against Alabama. The man who said you should win a conference Championship to enter the cfp also contradicted himself so what is he saying to you about playing time?
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
Yeah I'm sure that this is right up there with doing something like... I dunno, leaving your team high and dry right after you told them you weren't leaving for the NFL...
Ohio, the greatest state in the Union!
Saban has been quoted as saying he believes you should have to win your conference to be considered for the CFP)
That’s a misquote from Coach Saban’s comments last season. He actually said the “best four teams should be in”.
The question Saban was asked about whether being a conference champ should trump anything else on a Playoff resume. In fact, his 2016 quote made a good case for 2016 Ohio State.
“I think I can answer the question better if you gave me a specific scenario. I think that being a conference champ is certainly a significant accomplishment for any team or any program. But I also think that sometimes there are circumstances where a team can play really, really well for an entire season.”
"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, & in the manner in which you live.
So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "

We are sick and tired of facts. Emotion and Jackasserly is what is important.
"They just don't understand Ohio football."
Tom Brady lost to John Cooper. Never forget.
Plenty of time to get Burrow and Haskins ready for the game. Gotta keep JT ready for the draft. A buckeye wouldn’t get an attitude about the team moving forward with the best chance to win. Yesterday IMHO was a perfect example of pride over logic.
***As I said after spring practice, it benefits nobody naming starters before the spring. Every position should be up for grabs. Love JT but putting all your eggs in one basket isn’t smart, what would have been so bad to give the backups quality reps, in preparation for 2018? Mop up isn’t quality reps, Hopefully we see Burrows/Haskins platooning in the cotton bowl. Move onward and upward my fellow Bucks! O H............
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
Love JT but putting all your eggs in one basket isn’t smart, what would have been so bad to give the backups quality reps, in preparation for 2018? Mop up isn’t quality reps, Hopefully we see Burrows/Haskins platooning in the cotton bowl. Move onward and upward my fellow Bucks! O H............
No legitimate CFB program in the country does this.
We were not snubbed Linga, we didn’t pass the test that’sall. Had we taken Wisconsin to the woodshed as we could have without Barrett and Weber’s turnovers we would be in. And for what? So Clemson could put up 40 on us? We would be fortunate to beat surging USC team.
Has does Urban's wife get to the field so fast to stick her nose in front of the camera?
Loss to OK was bad since they were seed 2, Loss to Iowa was death, Last years 30-0 to Clemson strike 3.
Let it go. Crush USC they need to make a statement.
The ugly truth is often downvoted
It’s so shitty that the question of skipping even gets brought up ten minutes after they find out they missed the playoff...
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Why? For every draft eligible person, it’s probably the best thing to do for yourself; there is zero upside and a lot of risk to playing in a non playoff bowl game. It’s happened elsewhere, it’s a logical decision, why shouldn’t it be asked?
I’m not saying it’s not a viable question, just bad timing. They literally just found out they missed the playoff and are playing USC in a “lesser” bowl. It’s a fine question, and will get asked a lot, just wish the media could give them time to process their status
Its not really what you ask, but how and when you ask...timing is everything.
Agreed, that's not an okay question to just ask someone.
Time for a beat down by a rested and angry team. No prisoners

Urban also promised us after last season's ass whipping that the Bucks suffered against Clemson that it would not happen again, and it happen again in less than a year. Don't make promises Urban you can't keep.
As I am sure you have never done.
Are you new to sports?
Wyandot Buckeye Fan
ain't that special
marginalizing yourself in the face of class coming from the coach, the Buckeyes, and the B1G Commissioner

You win the day! Biggest Douche on the ENTIRE INTERNET. Congrats buddy, and please remove the "Buckeye Fan" moniker. You do not represent the S&G at all.
Congrats buddy, you took that title away from him when you called another 11W a douche. Hats off to you! My god.. settle down Susan.
And then YOU commit the same act you are condemning him / her for by making a misogynistic comment. #Hypocrisy
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
Urban Meyer “I don’t know if we are really very good or not. Guess we’ll just have to play the game and see how it turns out”. 11 times a year.
Feel better now Wy?
it had nothing to do with urban. he has a qb with a so-so arm who is wildly inconsistent. hopefully haskins gets us back to national prominence.
Good lord, man.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
There are times where the worst thing that can be spread is misinformation
Still pissed about this. No way 'Bama is "unequivocally" better than us.
With you brother. The only thing we can do now is beat USC and remind Bama of Zeke Elliott.
We didn't get invited to the SEC Playoff Invitational. The committee kissed the ass of the SEC - or at least Bama/ Saban's - and they are the weakest they have been in a decade or more.
They gave Alabama a nomination for entertainer of the year with an artist of the decade resume. This decision had to be more about what Alabama has done in past years than what they did this season - and that ticks me off.
Not mad that OSU didn't get in. Only that Bama did. Ohio State was like a beautiful woman with a broken nose this year - with that afternoon in Iowa City being that nose.
All that said, really looking forward to the Cotton Bowl. Should be fun.
Excellent wordsmithing. I agree.
I concur, which begs a question, what aren't we playing Auburn in our bowl game? Shouldn't we as #5 be playing #7 (since Wisconsin is #6)? If we beat Auburn decidedly, I would think we would embarrass the committee and further expose their nonsense. Just a thought...
I'm actually glad Auburn gets UCF. Let Scott Frost expose the SEC.
I fear UCF may have a let down especially if a significant portion of their coaching staff is missing. I watched the Nebraska press conference and it sounded like the finer details due to an early signing date were yet to be finalized and Frost did say many of his staff would be accompanying him to Nebraska. Seems peculiar that Auburn would skip all the B1G teams in succession--why would that be?
I was told he intends to coach thru the bowl game.
That may be so but it is not what he said yesterday in the press conference. He hopes to be there with UCF is not a firm commitment and many of his coaching staff are moving to Nebraska for new jobs there--he said with the early signing date approaching they need to hit the ground running to sure up their recruits and get on the road to make recruiting visits up to the dead period. As of yesterday he was still negotiating with Nebraska on this point.
I heard from a source that Tom Osborne was already telling recruits he was coming.
After the second year now of the committee taking two teams that did not win their conference and this year snubbing two Power 5 Conferences, I think the strong argument of an 8-team playoff now gets real attention in the off-season.
With that said, I am sad our team did not get in. But - I am glad we won't be playing Clemson because I feared another embarrassing loss like last year again. Clemson right now is the best team in the country in my eyes. We have a damn good team but we are streaky, not consistent.
Now next year, this Buckeye team should be pretty damned great.
Let's focus on the Rose Bowl Texas-style and whooping some Trojan ass. Let's poke some holes in the Trojans, so-to-speak.
What's round on the ends and high in the middle? Tell me if you know!
They were unequivocally better than us in ‘14 too, up until we beat them.
Amen to that Ahh Saturday! I remember every member of the talking head sports world media, especially ESPN, saying back in fourteen that Ohio State didn't deserve to be there and that BAMA would take them to the woodshed! Ohio State then went on to prove all of those talking head morons and all SEC dunderheads (fans) wrong. But hey, I'm still excited for the Cotton Bowl and taking on our old Rose Bowl Arch Nemesis! Hoping for a dominating win and the Bucks THIRD Top Ten win! That'll effectively stick a thumb in the committees eye!
Stay the course
"A lot of people, they harp on the negatives, but they don't realize the blessings that God has put in front of them."
Some of our fans should take this to heart.
Post this at the top of the Ohio State football forum.
You win with people.
And so forth...
9 Units Strong!
12-2 with a beatdown of USC and a big ten title is a good season in my books. we'll be DEADLY next year with haskins, a good o line, best backfield in CFB and arguably the best receivers.. cant fucking wait to demoralize every team next season. NO PRISONERS.
THIS. This is how every Buckeye should be trying to think right now. The team, the program, the fans, the state of Ohio!
It's great to be an Ohio State Buckeye!
I absolutely think like this... my issue is, what the hell do I do til then?
Hopefully enjoy the Cotton Bowl. Then the Basketbucks and maybe the Hockeybucks and Basebucks, and finally hope your Ravens and Orioles can do well enough to distract you till then? The fact that we'll soon have 9 months to wait for football is saddening to me..
Wrestle bucks are #2 in the country, and that Kyle Snyder kid...he's pretty good.
*4 year old voice* But I don’t want to wait until next yearrrrrrrrrrr.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Agree with your post and would add a chip on their shoulder and experience of having an inferior opponent (Iowa) controlling their playoff destiny. I just hope for a solid Cotton Bowl for JT in his home state, then be locked and loaded next year!!
Our D will take a small step back, but the O should be amazing!! I hope Prince stays. He has been solid!! Who is next man up at OT? Jordan? Bowen? Mumford? Anyone else notice Pryor and Browning on special teams?? Gonna both be effing legit. Not to mention Okudah.
Campbell Weber Prince. All could leave but I think stay.
Baker Hubbard Ward. Bye bye. Thanks for being amazing.
Im with you though. Gonna be some serious DEMORALIZATION!!!
I think it's smart for Prince to move to LT next year and improve his draft status.
We will see. The losses on the line are huge.
Annnnd we beat Michigan. Don’t forget that little tidbit.
Right on. The playoffs limited to four teams really confuse our perspectives. When this is in our rear view, we should remember that we beat the harbaughs again, rebounded from a disastrous day at Kinnick after an emotionally and physically draining PSU win, and won the big ten championship against an undefeated Wisconsin.
We got the benefit of the doubt last year and didn’t this year, so no sour grapes here. I was at Lucas oil last night and it was an awesome memory.
Thanks for the memories JT, Jamarco, Sam, Jalyn, Billy, Denzel, Marcus and Tyquan. Go forth and kick ass in the league.
I hate the offseason.
Urban said during the ESPN interview Iowa was good, NO Urban they suck.
Just when I thought you couldn't make a more idiotic comment than your previous. Congrats
Your first comment was awful. This one probably correct. Iowa maybe 40-50 in nation.
I'm guessing you call yourself a Michigan fan (when you're not posing as a Buckeye on a message board) but you've become so jealous of OSU`s success that you spend more time obsessing over OSU than you do the team you actually root for.
Keep hating on Urban and keep being disappointed each November and see how it works out for you. A visit to the doc for some Zoloft may help.
People forget that Iowa should have beat Penn State and it took a literal last second TD pass to win. Iowa is by no means a slouch. Iowa has the potential to beat a lot of good teams. That being said, we shouldn't have lost to them of course since we are the better team, but it happens. If the better team always won the game there would be no point in playing the game.
Good responses ! That’s my issue with sec they always say how tough it is and we beat each other up , but it’s beem a two pony show for the Last seven years son UFM left. Im just upset the B1G was left out it didn’t have to be us but no way two sec teams deserve it lwatched several of bamas games #not impressed . SEC is down but yet they are rewarded with two teams. No division of a conference is tougher than B1G east
"Vitalum Vitalis "
1) It was known by all of us armchair coaches that running JT instead of Zeke/Dobbins led to losses in big games these past few years. I know this problem fixes itself with JT graduating but I hope Meyer DOES look back at the past losses and acknowledges why
2) JT and Meyer ignoring medical professionals opinions = donkey brained
If you think this problem goes away when JT graduates, your delusional. Meyer teams have always emphasized the running quarterback, he even called it his security blanket. Just next year the new hashtag will be #BenchHaskins.
The truth is in the details...
Don't get me wrong, the running quarterback scheme will still be present with UM as coach (even though it's outdated), but Haskins seems more willing to be a pocket passer for big plays and run when warranted instead of skurrying for a few yards 9/10 times the scheme is run
Three of the four teams that are in have QBs that run.
"Give your dream an aspiration date."
Nonetheless, JT graduating rids UM of his love affair blinding his decisions. If Haskins does not produce as expected, then sure bench Haskins and give Tate/Burrows a chance - unless he decides to fall in love with DH too. While he is impeccable overall as a coach, that stubbornness is bad news
Yes - and they all can throw too.
And outside of maybe Mayfield, they're also much better runners than JT is.. Hurts and Bryant both run 4.5's, Bryant and Mayfield are both very accurate, and can stretch the field.. Barret obviously can not do either of those things. That's not a good point.
We didn't get snubbed because we didn't deserve to go. I'm happy with the Cotton Bowl against a legitimate King like USC.
Nice to see they want us to make money for CFB by putting us in the Cotton Bowl to put more asses in the seats.
I just hate that we got penalized for winning last night and Bama got rewarded for losing to Auburn. Just not right. They “think” Bama is better.... just because. Shoot, I “thought” FSU was going to be a top team this year. May as well have computers determine everything again.
Yeah why play the season? We beat TTUN who was a top 10 team before Speight got hurt. They would've been in the conversation if they didn't lose their QB so we will call that our 3rd top 10 win... Iowa plays like a top 10 team at home on 11/4 so let's call that a top 10 game too since none of this shit matters. Bama has a roster loaded with talent so they are in no matter what...
How did we get penalized for winning last night? We moved up in the rankings (just not enough).
Finish the season in High Cotton, Buckeyes.
Trounce the Trogans.
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I'm not very smart. --- W.W. Hayes
Thanks gth, now I have that good Ole song in my head. I'll forget that Alabama sings it.
Barrett either throws under 150 yards or becomes a turnover machine. He's not accurate enough to beat top-4 defenses in the country. A big-10 championship and bowl game with USC is as far as his talent would realistically take us so grading on that curve this season is a big success.
Next year we can set our sights higher with Dwayne Haskins under center.
operative word is "can"
reality is replacing the 'leadership factor' departing with JT will be a challenge to whoever QBs the 2018 Buckeyes
coach Meyer expects a field general
Honestly, I'm more worried about billy price leaving. With him and Jamarco gone I worry we won't have that unique leadership he brought to the o-line.
there will be leadership on the O-line
Going into last night, Wisconsin had the number one ranked defense in the country. You can't say Barrett can't lead the Buckeyes over an elite D.
He was the QB.
So your words are correct.
JT is the Arron Craft of Buckeye Football. Love the kid. Love the leader. Love the heart. Both won a lot of games for us. Glad they played for us. Understood why they started.
But I was ready to move on. Neither can get you to the championship because of one glaring fault. Craft’s shooting ability and JT’s throwing ability. Both had championship quality teams around them. Both even made their teams better. But their individual faults caught up to their teams against the very best. The result was elite eight teams not final four teams.
Hoping the big ten crushes their bowl opponents. Hoping clemson and Oklahoma roll in semifinals. Hope both lose in finals.
So how good have the basketball buckeyes been since Craft left?
Actually, Craft did make a Final Four, here in New Orleans. I was there to see him, in the national semifinal against Kansas, dribbell down to the baseline and get surrounded by Jayhawks, then turning it over. That led, just before the half, to a breakaway Kansas layup; a 4-point swing that felt as ominous as it proved.
It didn't cost us a ring: no one was beating that Kentucky team. But it would have been nice to get to the championship game.
Very excited for this matchup. Can't even pretend to be upset about not making the CFP. All I'll say is I'm pulling for the winner of the Oklahoma v. Georgia game.
Your 11W Harbaugh Posting Guidelines
I think the entire country will be pulling for “not Clemson or Bama”.
Oklahoma will win it all they have best qb in country and the best offensive line in country
This. I'm rooting for Georgia by default because Dabo's a douche, and fuck 'Bama and Mayfield.
first, I am shocked if Urban and team really thought they would be IN THE PLAYOFFs..and to me is a bit disturbing.
you have QB who can't pass and have performed terribly in big games except 1 quarter against PSU.
you have LBs that can't cover TEs/receivers and get burned routinely.
lost to OU at home (good loss but still at home by significant margin)
lost to iowa away by 100 points (you get the point)
last game on national stage in front of committee members all watching w/ Bama bias to begin w/ and do another standard OSU show - big plays.. horrible plays.. penalties.. interceptions..pull out a small win..
and you think you would be in???
Urban either needs to go back to his younger / more aggressive days with will to win every game and every down.. vs his "oh, i don't want to work up too much any more like i used to when i was younger" talk... you can't win championship w/ JT type of caliber. he CANNOT Throw. my 6 year girl knows this. he had 5 years and regressed. Urban needed to move earlier on QB position and never did out of loyalty. loyalty is admirable but i rather have Saban like approach when it comes to winning.
maybe this is the lesson urban needed...
hope JT wins the last game and move on.. great guy...
but most of buckeye nation is ready to move on from JT era... it's been most frustrating.. mostly because we have had talent to win 2-3 national championships during these 5 years.. yet we have 1, and 1 blowout loss and partly left out this year b/c of our (and MSU) 2 bad losses in the biggest stage in recent 2 years. to me, that's a bit of underachievement if you ask me.
Your expectations aren't everyone's problems. Let it go, Olaf.
"I find your lack of kalua disturbing" - Darth Lebowski
you don't really enjoy college conferences football, do you? Traditions, regional fanbases, the reward of the Bowl Season
it is evident to me these are not your guideposts
just an observation
Do you ever enjoy watching them play? Sheesh...
I am here for the same reason you are.
The LBs played ok last night against a solid TE.
Just want say that they have looked better lately.
I agree with you on the Urban playoffs point. I assumed that unless OSU won 40 something to 7 that they would be on the outside looking in. Especially after watching the second half I'd be surprised if he legitimately thought OSU would be in at #4.
Your expectations are ridiculous! JT is 4-0 against TTUN! He's smashed just about every QB record at Ohio State! Were you saying this crap last year when JT smoked Oklahoma in their house? Were you saying that in 2014 when only due to JT's grit the Bucks won at Penn State? Child please!
I look forward to DJ's "It's a Bad Day to be a Trojan" story.
Get Dumped Then, USC!!!
Fields of Dreams
I'm over it. Win the cotton bowl (not a given by any means) and wreck the playoffs next year with a powerful run game and devastating passing attack
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
Brotherhood... I'm super excited for this bowl game, it will cap off another great year as a Buckeye Fan. B1G Champs! f ttun.
Fuck the committee. Let's beat USC by 30 and show the committee how much they botched this year's playoff field.
and hope Clemson crushes Alabama 35-0.
59-0 Clemson before losing to Oklahoma.
I think that hope becomes a reality.
32-0 would suffice!
I hate saying it, but starting Haskins only could have benefitted the Buckeyes and allowed us to blow out Wisco.
"The people, who try to make this world worse... are not taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness. ~ Bob Marley
Oh well, hopefully we can muster enough offense to win the cotton bowl with a ton of 5 stars running around in scarlet and gray.
The one thing I'm going to take away from this season is a 31 point beat down at Iowa. That should never happen to an Ohio St football team against far less talent. For me seeing the talent we have and the rich tradition, l always have huge expectations, if we would of only gotten beat by a field goal or a touchdown, I'd be alot more for giving. No one has to agree with me on anything, I've been a Buckeye all my life, and will continue to be for as long as I live, win or lose.
they have a Fan Day in the WHAC next season
take the opportunity to attend and make your expectations known to those college football kids in person
do the interviews with your smart phone and share the video with all of us here
it will be useful for our discussions
You're entitled to any opinion you want. ....this is a sports blog not an adult male dating site
I’ve been reading your posts - I don’t DV people unless they are complete ass hats - If this is your attitude to being in the national conversation every year, beating those bastards from up north and having a winning season each year - you must not have lived through the Cooper years. If you say you did I have to give you kudos for still being alive -
Although many may have an opposing view - This is just a game played by college aged kids. They don’t purposefully go out to ruin your day. For 3 1/2-4 hours go as insane as you want; but at the end of the day did that loss to Iowa cost any fan of the Buckeyes a job; affect their family life etc.
There are so many fan bases who hate us because of the success the Buckeyes have year and year out.
GO BUCKEYES!!!!! BEAT USC!!!!!
"To have a great life simply follow this rule: Do not bring undo conflict into your life..."
Charlie Baker - OSU - 1986
My feelings were really really really hurt , does that count ? Lol
Charlie, I suffered the cooper years - it was terrible - losing big game after big game and having the school president continue to support him was just so difficult. now, I feel like I've survived the barrett years - jt is a good kid and everything; but, like cooper, can't win the big games. I'm very excited for haskins next year - finally a good arm is back at qb and hopefully the big-play too.
The country doesn't remember us winning it all in '14. They keep harping on 31-0. For once I'd like to see a Urban Meyer machine at OSU for the entire season that lays waste to all teams and is the unequivocal #1 seed. With all the talent amassed here you'd think thats not a tall order.
Goes to show how important the QB is to a team. You can have all the talent in the world and still struggle if you have no real passing game
Now they have an opportunity to do something that no coach or team has done since the days of Woody Hayes.
Kirby Hocutt is a world class asshole. "Barely any difference between 5-8" last Tuesday. #6 beats #3, #7 gets destroyed by #1, #8 beats #4 and #5 watches at home. 5 days later... Unequivocally better... The reason I thought we would be in was that if we were comparable, which we were 5 fucking days ago, then the two top 10 wins and conference championship SHOULD have been the tie breaker. They took their own playbook and just said, "no one can hold us accountable so let's just do whatever we want"
even 538 had us in. Guess 538 can't predict presidential elections or the playoffs.
They're in a bad stretch.
Success - it's what you do with what you've got. - Woody Hayes
538 had us maybe 60% to 40% head to head vs Bama to get in. To say they got it wrong is misplaced. A forecasting model like 538’s is presenting the likely possibilities not what will exactly happen.
Its called politics. That's what the committee is, does and will continue to do.
His exact words were "no separation between 5 and 9" Fucking bold face liar. The committee has lost ALL credibility and the whole thing is a joke. This will be the lowest ratings the CFP ever gets. The B1G and PAC are the conferees with the biggest fanbases and I think a lot of us are going to boycott the games. OSU v USC will be the biggest TV draw of the bowl season.
It's terrible and I am thinking worse than the BCS.... two SEC teams, wow... They have to go to 8 fast or else this will be an issue.. Also, living on past performance has helped the SEC, we all know that, because they are down way down other than top 3, and not a chance Bama should get in... They had their mind made up before last night.. This is the B1G, 3 teams in the top 10 end of year rankings which we beat the other 2.... The SEC bias is hard to take....
One man that has a mind and knows it can always beat ten men who haven't and don't.
JT Barrett cost this team a playoff birth..... had osu made it into the playoff with JT at quarterback, OSU would have been violated again by Clemson... i think Herbie was advocating Bama as to save himself and Buckeye Nation from watching another depantsing on a national stage. i honestly love JT but I also love my 10 year old labrador retriever. and i would never consider her more athletic than a version 9 years her junior...JT is a serviceable QB with a ton of heart, but hes maybe the 4th best QB in the room.. based on taclent alone.... which lets face it.. is quite important when you are striving for Nattys.Urban took the whole qb situation too personal and it cost probably his most talented team he has ever coached to miss a shot at a Natty
Most talented team? That would be 2015 easily. Next years team is looking even better too.
"I spent 90 percent of my money on women and drink. The rest I wasted." - George Best
I can't understand how this is so easy to believe. Haskins is unproven, the Bucks will lose two stalwarts on the OL, with the exception of Bosa, the DL will be brand new, and Ward will be the next OSU DB taken in round 1.
Sure, Dobbins is back, and maybe Weber, but I find it difficult to believe this team is unequivocally better because their 5th-year senior, and statistically, the greatest QB in tOSU history, is being replaced by a redshirt sophomore with a perceived better arm. Mind you, UFM historically runs an offense with a dual threat QB.
I wouldn't say better. I think exciting is probably a more operable word. We don't lose our whole defensive backfield to the NFL. We'll still have a ton of depth on our D-line, including the reigning Big Ten Defensive Lineman of The Year. Depending on who leaves, our LB core will be comprised of some fresh talent as well. We essentially return every skill player on offense, save Campbell if he declares. LT and C will be an issue, but to watch Haskins and Dobbins grow together, and to watch Haskins develop a rep with his roommate, Mack, is going (hopefully) be fun to watch. I have no idea if Urban will continue to run the offense through the QB but I'd like think he'd rely more heavily on Dobbins/Weber and the power run game to set up some deep balls for Haskins -- again, I think it's just more excitement at the potential of what next year could bring.
based on recruiting ranking u sir are wrong
2015 team was talented but 17 was/is absurb with talent and depth check out 247 rankings... bama esq... wasted to make JT feel loved
Not only Herbie. Robert Smith was saying the same thing last night after the game. Essentially - I think OSU has the better resume to get in but Alabama is the better team.
Agree 100 percent. If you watched that game last night we came ready to play. Oline was opening big wholes and giving jt time unheard of. Receivers were getting open. Running back were going off. Defense was in sync blowing up plays
Special teams was good. Every one was ready for that game n got better as the season went on exceptttttt jt Barrett, he literally kept them in the game missing throws making bad decisions. That's a 5th year senior that has regressed n should have been benched after last year. No doubt in my mind burrow or haskins would have improved as the year went on like the rest of the team. Urbans love for Barrett cost this team a chance at a title. It's my opinion at least
If if was a fifth we'd all be drunk
If we had a consistent good passer all season we wouldn't be playing on December 29th. We would be balanced and effective. This play calling with heavy QB runs is dysfunctional and predictable.
I hope better choices are made.
Players who want to complain about the CFP snub... well you know where coach Meyer's office is. He makes all decisions so you are where he got you.
I really hope this is getting to UM more than he is leading us to believe…. I have to think it is…. College football good or bad is all about getting into the playoffs, I need fire from UM, I am hoping that this does it and he gets after it. JT what a guy!!! But, what could have been if he had been a more accomplished pass. Every other position we are as good or better (mostly better) than every team except kicking, goodness get someone who can put it in the end zone…
CFB is all about getting into the playoffs. What a stupid statement from confused Playoff Guy. There are I believe 132 FBS teams and 4 playoff spots. SMDH. Another spoiled Buckeye fan.
I like the sound of these answers.
They don't feel sorry for themselves ... like we fans do.
On to the next game. USC won't be a pushover
Sorry for ourselves? I see more anger at the hypocrisy.
So Gene Smith, who sits on the committee, didn't give Urban a heads up and tell him he needed to win with style points?
Gene Smith cost us in 2012 and again here, in my opinion. Good dude but he needs to get an advisor who can make these easy analysis. And Smith should blast the committee and let them know what bullshit this is.
I'd be for leaving the CFP and going back to the Rose Bowl after this snub. If we have to have an election we can't win, might as well have our own game we can control. Who really wants to spend time in Dallas?
I think Gene isn’t allowed in the room when OSU is discussed. I was wondering when he joined committee as big ten rep if that might hurt us at some point. Not saying it here. If I had to guess it came down to the coaches in the room saying who they least would like to play - OSU or Alabama.
They were trying to win with style points. The offense just let the team down.
Committee gave us the benefit of the doubt twice already including last year. We lost to Iowa by 31. Apparently that hasn’t sunk in yet. Blaming Smith is beyond asinine. People need to stop looking for a scapegoat. As many have said, you want to be pretty much a lock, schedule OOC well, win your conference, lose 1 game or less. Don’t do these things, and you are counting on the grace of the committee to bail you out.
In the last 4 years OSU has either made the playoff or played in the next best bowl game. Great time to be a Buckeye.
If I were USC I would be about scared to death now.
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
College football is corrupt, no matter a playoff committee, the BCS, the coaches or the AP poll. They’re all flawed systems and there isn’t a way to fix it. We got the short end of the stick this year. Playing the blame game and belly aching does no one any good. Grow up and take your medicine
We also got the benefit of the doubt last year. Kinda makes it hard to paint it as a huge conspiracy against us.
Only because we were snubbed in 2015. Bama won the same argument that kept us out in 2015.
Only difference in 15 was MSU won the championship game hard to keep them out . This year bama didn’t go and still got in , just imagine if in 15 MSU losses that game and they put us in with Iowa , that essentially what they did this year still smh
I like how he says we went out and got the job done, USC went out and got the job done. I want to ask the committee if Alabama got the job done. Guess so!
The future is bright at Ohio State!
I knew the Iowa loss was going to hurt us, but I have a problem with two sec teams in the playoffs. I would have rather the pac 12 champ or one loss Wisconsin get in.
You’d rather have the one loss Wisconsin team we just beat make it? That don’t make a whole lot of sense.
I think we're all still in shock and a lot of "alternate scenarios" that people are tossing out there don't make sense. Of course the committee's decision didn't make any sense either so what else you gonna do?
It makes just as much sense as having Alabama over a team they just lost to. How many losses would Alabama have if they had to play Clemson once and Georgia twice? Auburn's resume is better than Alabama's.
But Auburn lost three times.
How many times would Auburn have lost if you eliminate one UGA game and replace the other with Tennessee and replace the Clemson game with FSU (you know, Alabama's schedule)? Does anyone doubt they would be 12-1 with a head to head win over Alabama?
Fuck the CFP Committee
Urban seems relieved
Urban makes a good point, we've sat around every year "hoping" for a #4 seed. We've never been a guaranteed spot and knew before the selection show. Just win out next year and be assured a top spot.
What we can't do in the air we'll do on the ground.
can we talk about how bama getting in PROVES how much the USC game matters for next year? starting and maintaning a good ranking throughout the year matters A LOT and our perception going into
a hopeful title run starts with USC
its not just an exhibition its a try out for next year
It also means we should stop scheduling teams like USC and Oklahoma and start scheduling Mercer and whogivesashit university.
How so? We don’t use the preseason / August polls anymore. First poll is in November.
Ohio State needed to come out and make their case to be included in the CFP! I am completely elated that we are B1G Champions - and to use a Bo-ism, I am bitterly disappointed on not making the CFP. Having said that, I can understand why OSU did not get in. We had the opportunity to make our case last night and we did not. Had Ohio State come out and completely dominated Bucky, they would have erased the Iowa loss from the minds of the committee... Instead, OSU played with a lack of consistency on the offensive side and it sorta brought that Iowa game back up to the top of people's memory...
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
An 84-yard touchdown pass to McLaurin in the first quarter and then he disappeared for the rest of the game. I don't think he had another pass thrown to him the rest of the game. Talk about inconsistency.....
Saban on a cart eating cold pizza
You must have missed the first down catch he made that was followed by a facemask and 15-yard penalty.
Yes....you are right.....just two passes to him..
This is good comedy. The last 3 week’s, it was run the damn ball. Last I saw Dobbins had 154. Now it’s McLauren should have gotten more throws. Fans can’t resist just saying we should have done something other than what we did—meanwhile, we beat an undefeated Wisconsin and won the conference. You even have proof the Terrry was open a bunch and we just didn’t throw to him? If so, post it here. I am calling you out on the bullshit.
I actually think it's in everyone's best interest for JT and a few others to sit. Even a perfect game vs USC would not cover discrepancies for NFL scouts this year however chances of injury are at best minimal. So there is no gain. The gain is to allow the next gen players full practice time vs a good team in a bowl in preparation for next year's run.
During the games I see a lot of "Meyer sucks", "Meyer can't coach" and even way worse, occasionally. I would like to think that is a mixture of alcoholic beverages and the internet – never a good combination.
But, I will never understand why anyone in their right mind would think, much less say such a thing. I wouldn't trade Urb for anyone else. His presser today is just another example of why. We really lucked out with landing him as our coach and I will forever be grateful he is here.
Once a Buckeye, Always a Buckeye
The committee just emphasized that conference titles do NOT matter.
Or strength of schedule.
Tough way to get left out - Iowa was really a sleeeper game sandwiched between tough Penn State game and Sparty, the program that seems to give the Bucks more trouble than they should.
Wonder if Big Ten will need to reconsider the 9 conference game schedule and the restriction on playing FCS schools if other conferences aren't following the same guidelines and the selection committee is not taking that into consideration.
Yep. ACC and SEC have never been left out and are the only two conferences with 8 game schedules. Almost all their teams get a extra win instead of going .500 that week which makes them better to the committee since all they do is count losses.
I think Urban could have class, yet still push back a little. When neither him nor the commish push back at all what should we expect to happen in future years? I think they should have put forth our case at least. We definitely had a strong case, so why lay down? Do it with class, but I see guys on here making a very strong argument. Bobby Knight didn't get all the calls for 25 years by playing nice.
Bobby Knight threw chairs though. Imagine if our coaches started throwing chairs in this day and age!
But I do agree. I thought Delaney (however its spelled) was gonna rain down hellfire, brimstone and treacle. But instead its like a call to your buddy that actually picks up the phone while the plane is lifting off. "Hey Jim, is that you?"
"Yeah, this is Jim Delaney. I can barely hear you by the way."
"Jim, can you hear me?"
"What, I can't hear you...we are right in the middle of taking off to New York. Who the hell is this?"
"It's ESPN and we would like your reaction to the CFB Selection committee selections."
"What? I'm on a plane taking off and can't really hear you let alone understand anything just asked of me."
"It's ESPN and we'd really love a comment from you."
"Yeah, those guys played great. They are champions. There are a bunch of people in a room who make these decisions but I'm on a plane taking off right now so, you know..."
"Mr. Delaney, are you there?"
"Yeah, the plane is still taking off so talk with you later..."
I just hope they bring it and don’t be so pissed they end up not caring for the Cotton Bowl
No, no. Somebody had to be left out, this year it was the team that lost by 31 to Iowa. Ohio State will be back and in the hunt next year, Beat USC!!!
2x account suspension survivor
We can Beat USC and boycott the playoff games.
You're right. You can boycott whatever you want. It is my opinion, that it is ridiculous to blame anyone other than Urban Meyer, the coaching staff, and the players for being left out of the playoffs.
No I’ll blame the committee who thought it was a good idea to repeat history and give 2 teams from the same conference the opportunity to win the national championship. Like 2011, the ratings will suck, sponsors will lose money, and maybe we will finally get a real playoff system.
Brunstar - College football does have a real playoff system. Unlike in 2011, there are also two other teams that get that chance. If we only had a two team system this year, it would of been Oklahoma vs. Clemson. If by real playoff system you mean 8 teams, then the SEC would of had 3 of 8 and damn near 50% of that field as well. Four is perfect, sometimes you make it, sometimes you don't. Now we know how Baylor/TCU, and Penn State fans feel. Beat USC! Ohio State will be back stronger than ever next year.
I ain't watching.
How did Roy Moore get on the CFP Selection Committee?
First of all I was born in 78, so I did live through the Cooper years, and unlike many people I hardly drink alcohol. It seems to me the only thing Urban knows anymore is run J.T., we have 2 capable backs of carrying the load, Barrett just had surgery last Sunday, and they run him more than Weber and Dobbin's, that is pure b.s.. Urban hasn't lost alot, but his losses here lately have been embarrassing. I wish I knew how to show you all a picture of my front porch, it's all Ohio St, there is no other house in this town that has as many banners hanging as I do. There are people all over that claim to be Buckeye fans, but I can talk with somebody for 15 min. And realize they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. Back in the 90's there were idiots in this town who wore that maize and blue shit of a color, they did it just to piss us Buckeye fans off, you don't see those morons any more, there scUM fans in this town today that can't name ichigans last 2 heisman winners, but they call themselves fans.
Sadly, I had a cousin in the next county over. Strangest thing ever, he was the only guy who had a southern accent but had an inclination for "da scUM".
Nothing compares to playing for a national championship, but if you aren't going to the playoffs, a Cotton Bowl appearance against USC is as good as it gets. Go Bucks! Beat the Trojans! #B1GChamps!!!
I have not bet on a single football game, pro or college, since 2006. This morning, I bet a sizable sum on Clemson, and the same amount on Oklahoma. I allowed my now-abject hatred of the SEC to guide my wallet. After a couple of hours, I started to rethink my action, and returned to my computer to view the past three games of all four of the "best teams" chosen by that august group of CFB voters. Do you know what I discovered? 1) That Alabama and Georgia are decent teams, both with a number of verifiable flaws on both sides of the ball, 2) that I should leave my bets intact, because Oklahoma and Clemson simply are better all-around teams, and 3) that the Buckeyes had a better than 50-50 chance of beating both Clemson and Oklahoma, and would have royally trashed Georgia had they been fortunate enough to get by Okie...
Should of waited. Kelly Bryant is injury prone, never know what could happen between now and a month from now.
The only thing I don't understand which is less about us getting in or not but it is the comments from Hocutt after...
First, he says that they went back and forth and challenged themselves into the wee hours of the morning trying to figure out by comparing bodies of work and arguing who should be in...
...then seconds later when asked Alabama must have been much better in your eyes than OSU to put them in without a conf champ
He responds with yes, it was clear Alabama was unequivocally better than OSU
If it was clear and easy that Bama was that much better why did you have to go back and forth for hours??
GO BUCKS! STOMP A MUD HOLE IN USC!
GO TIGERS! STOMP A MUD HOLE IN BAMA!
I had a nightmare last night - barrett was on tv saying he found an obscure subsection in ncaa rules that would allow him to play for us for a 6th year - it's almost as frightening as my john cooper nightmares.
This whole committee is a f in joke why didn't they match up ohio state against auburn and usc against lsu like they always do with the lower bigten teams when we have a down year and then beat their chests how great the sec is its all bullshit its ten times worse than the BCS was all this shit did has done is favored the weak ass sec even more I say bring their pussy ass out of their comfront zones in 70 degree weather and play some real football teams in real football conditions this is total bullshit every bowl game is to the weak ass sec advantage not to get exposed for what it is and furthermore the Big ten has the best coaches in America anyone of these coaches on any given week could beat anybody in the country the weak ass has worst coaches ever!! Call it what it is a Joke Farce!!
