Go; Your body doesn't last forever
Yes - especially, if he is already projected to be a first round selection. I mean, it's not as if he would have that far up the draft board to move if he stayed another year. And the risk of injury is so great. As much as I would love to see him in the scarlet and gray one more season - this should be a fairly easy decision for him, financially -
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement. - Will Rogers
I agree. He is projected to go anywhere from the mid 1st to early 3rd round so his stock is pretty high. I'd love to have him back(im sure most fans would), but I would think its in his best interest to declare.
I think he well do pretty well in the combine and has a good chance to improve his stock further. I think its close to a 100% chance that he's gone.
"I hate losing more than I like winning."- Chris Paul
Good to see you back Phi.
Let's be honest...while the money isn't as great as it is in the earlier part of the 1st round, you're likely to go to a better team later in the first. With the rookie wage scale, it's at least lessened the disparity a bit among the 1st round picks.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Would be great to see him stay and be leader of the other monster DE's on the team and the new recruits. Scary stuff
I love watching this kid play but make your money young man you deserve it.
Thanks for the click bait headline
I didn't think twice about it. Although I typically rad all articles, regardless.
You still got a fair read out of it.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
Not as bad as these are the only people to have been cured of aids/ HIV or 15 celebrities that you didn’t know dead, gay, or in jail. All which I have seen attached to articles.
You won't believe what XXX looks like now!!!
We would be lucky to have him for another season.. but it would also be great to see him go get paid.
Yep one first round contract should set you and your family up pretty good imo.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
Win Now. Get PAID in April.
Even though we all know he's declaring for the draft, this is the right way to play it. Act like you're still thinking about it. Say you're focusing on winning a conference championship and looking forward to playing in a great bowl game.
Zeke did not take the same approach. But to each their own. I would bet everything I own that Hubbard declares after our season ends. But good on him for earning that degree first!
They hate us cuz they aint us!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Zeke took an approach that in some other programs.......would've gotten his ass benched. Doesn't matter that he turned out to be right about the Offense that night in the Shoe vs. Sparty. Besides, anyone who thinks he came to that conclusion at that moment, that night, will brake the naive meter.
I agree that Hubbard will head to the NFL, but I have huge respect for him keeping on his team and their quest for a BIG Championship.
Getting his degree ... good man. Still, he will Never to have to work a regular job like most of us after a couple of years in the NFL.
If you're going to be a 1st or 2nd rounder, it's a no-brainer. Go get paid young man!
Yep - it'd be pretty cool seeing him in the depth chart next year but there comes a time when you have to make those tough decisions.
The off season bites !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Seattle Sounders 2019 MLS Champions
I would love for him to stay but he’s got to go now if he wants the NFL.
maybe his mind is made up and he just gave a diplomatic response.
Or- maybe he does have goals of playing in College Playoff
A lot of teams have top guys stick around to lead their college as a senior.
and it might not be a bad call if he did, I dont know what the DE pool will look like but the difference between high first round and
late first round is significant. The question is going to be, would playing another year in college be likely to raise his draft stock higher
It's 2019 and TTUN still sucks!!!
I think he's gone, but there's no way he's going to speak about that.
Even if he wanted to, that becomes a distraction.
I'd say he's put in his time in college and earned it. Bosa, Cooper, and the Predator will take over next year :)
"I find your lack of kalua disturbing" - Darth Lebowski
I think Hubbard deserves to get paid and be a first round pick, but damn. Can you imagine an Ohio State defensive line with Bosa, Cooper, Young AND Hubbard next year? Big Ten teams would just punt on first down, every time.
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
What about mirror lake?
Come now.... he is GONE
You WIN with people.
It would be great if he stayed but I imagine his grade will be high. He should probably go, but I would not be sad to see him stay either.
Would love to know which numbnuts asked if the door is open for Sam to return. Holy cow.
It'd be nice to see him paid by the Saints.
Nothing cleanses the soul like a no call pass interference.
who else but media people could ask such idiotic questions
If he wants to play in the NFL it's time to go, but until then he still has it least 2 more games of qb smashing, tackle your entire backfield action in the Scarlet and grey.
This just in to the newsroom...Sam Hubbard becomes the first Ohio State player to participate in two Senior tackle days! /s
In all seriousness, I think he should declare for the NFL. I would love for him to come back but you are only one play from ending your career. Take the money young man...you have earned it.
Sam has sure come a long way since he first stepped foot on campus. His future is bright whatever he decides.
So will he be a 4-3 End or a 3-4 OLB? Has the size/speed to do either, i think.
Agreed but I think he has skills most 4-3 ends don't have and would likely be more valuable as a an OLB
We say "red shirt junior" but that is a football construction. The guy has been in school for four years he's a senior and he's graduating. The comments about not wanting to make a habit out of letting players with remaining eligbity participate in senior tackle bothered me slightly. He is a senior!
Why does the media play these stupid games every year.
When players are ready to announce their decision they will. Until then mind your own business
As much as I'd love to see him on another year, we have a deep line and he's done great for Buckeye nation. He deserves his shot as much as anyone. Go make that money while you can and thanks for giving my heart rate a small break whenever the ball went your way
When I grow up (born in 1943) I want to be Sam Hubbard or J.T. Barrett!
WOW LOL - nicely done Semper
I'd be shocked if he stays. Then again, Tyquan Lewis shocked me.
Fields of Dreams
Maybe it is just me but I always find these situations odd. The sole (individual) purpose of playing football for Ohio State for the majority of the student athletes is to be a high round selection in the NFL draft. I would absolutely love to have Sam Hubbard back next year but the young man has set himself up to accomplish everything he has set out to do.
This time period for these players just always seems odd to me.
"Tina, you fat lard, come get some DINNER!... Tina, eat. Food. Eat the FOOD!"
He should go to the NFL. And he can become yet another in a long line of Buckeyes passed on by the Browns in the draft.
Or he could be drafted by the Browns and have his NFL career ruined before it even starts. Hubbard is not a top-ranked QB in the 2018 draft, therefore the Browns would not pass on him lol.
He should follow his heart.
That said, I wouldn't mind if his heart leads him to take the Mike Doss approach.
"The future is bright at Ohio State." - Urban Meyer 1/1/15
Tbf Doss did have kind of a disappointing NFL career. Not saying his decision to stay at OSU for his senior year contributed to that but I certainly wouldn't wish Doss's level of NFL success on Hubbard.
Injuries killed Doss' career. When healthy he was a more than average starting safety.
After his evaluation, if his grade is good enough, we know he will not go to the Browns.
