How poetic... We have a horrible outing on ST last year, we start the same way this year, but close it out with a blocked punt. Dr. Seuss couldn't write that.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I think he could have, but there would have been a lot more rhyming and Ward would have been wearing a funny hat and for some reason in the background there would be all kinds of whimsically fluffy mechanical gears spinning above Ohio Stadium.

Last time we blocked a punt was 2014, you say? Hmmm...
"Medicine is not a science" - Leo Spaceman
Gutsy call, and executed to perfection.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
Advice for PSU in the future, don't let the guy with 4.2 speed come of the edge unblocked
Yeah, Denzel can flat out fly!!
But . . . but . . . they couldn't see his number
That thud when he blocks it is beautiful.
a great sound indeed
play. of. the. game. Denzel Ward!
I told my son the exact same thing from C Deck right when it happened, so thank you for the validation...I'm still floating!!!
Now for Urban to stop being an idiot with the kickoff coverage team. Lineup on both sides!!!!!
Set back the clock as if the fumble never occurred.
Funny how a play or two (Hubbard's tackle for two) can change outcome for a game or a season. Ohio State morphed from a good but flawed team into a team of destiny, at least for 11:47 of the last quarter. The question becomes will it continue. Still all hail Denzel Ward who made JT Barrett's heroics possible.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
I think the block did more hurt to psu. To me this game will always be what Franklin said. (Paraphrasing)”I saw a veteran qb with time in the pocket and great receivers”.
The O line has come together. Meech for president!!
Watching that live and you see Ward get off the ball fast and then close on the punter you just didn't want to say anything out loud to jinx the blocked punt
Just a pure moment of a Dude making a play when it needed to be made.
Thank you Denzel Ward
I saw Ryan Day hang 62 on Michigan...His hair was perfect.
Go Buckeyes Beat Michigan
Executed to perfection, with the body control not to rough the punter, which would have been a disaster.
A thing repeated will happen a third time.
While I do get what you mean, as long as you touch ball there's no roughing.
Yes. How beautiful! And loved the very clear “BLOCK THAT KICK” chant from the crowd.
WHen we went down 21-3, I said to myself that this feels an awful lot like the Alabama game. It was weird but I had this feeling going down early to Bama that we would come back. It wasn't nearly as theatric before half as Bama, but the end sure delivered. Regarding the block, it's kind of weird too but you could almost see it coming, like it was written as soon as they lined up. And the sound of the block - anyone else find that sound as glorious as I did? It was the cleanest, most "designed" punt block that I've perhaps ever seen. Again, like it was "to be" and that's it. LIke nothing else could've possibly happened there but a block. I used to be a wrestling fan back when it was still cool to be one (Iwas also 11 years old and not a grown ass adult (not throwing shade or anything lol)) but it felt a lot like when you knew that undertaker was gonna pop out of that casket and murder everyone. Anyway, good, good times.
A gentle reminder to BE NICE. Plays guitar and makes iced tea in the winter.
I thought the same thing. In hindsight I held it together pretty well down 21-3 because it just felt like we could still outplay them.

I thought the same thing for a while... but we just couldn't seem to catch a break... when JT fumbled with 5 min left... I pretty much thought we were done. Then the blocked punt... and bam right back in it.
"The future is bright at Ohio State." - Urban Meyer 1/1/15
I love the chant right before the block. One of the rare times that works!
I love the double-thud -- ball hitting foot, ball hitting Denzel Ward, and the punter remaining basically upright, so no possibility of a penalty.
As long as you get part of the ball you can crush the kicker.
No hesitation off the edge was key when the o-line dove inward to block instead of hanging outside. Any hiccup there and he wouldn't have made it. Lays-out perfectly to get in the way.
I hate the offseason.
I'm still trying to figure out why his blocker decided to double team the interior lineman.
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.

Denzel Ward! Hurt. My. Feelings.
"¯\_(ツ)_/¯" - Joey Bosa
I can't get enough of this....
I was out of town in a hotel watching this game with a friend from Ireland who loves soccer and knows very little about american football. I had spent most of the time explaining the basics of the game. As they lined up for the punt, he said something like 'boy, it sure looks like that kicker is going to get tackled'...lol.
"Most Noahs have two of everything, he's got four tonight" - Gus Johnson on Noah Brown's 4 TD catches against Oklahoma.
Urban never lost a game when he blocked a punt.
Definitely a game changer.
The punt came right after the fumble and restored all hope in my mind for a win. I only felt doubt form the 3 plays between the fumble and the blocked punt. Ohio State dominated otherwise and eventually overcame all odds to win.
He had some BBQ back there
Pork (pigskin) BBQ to be precise! LOL +1
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Actually, I went back and watched the defensive sequence that led up to that, and the first inklings of a turn in the momentum happened on the very first play after the fumble. Booker came screaming in on a run blitz, getting around a WR trying to block him, and threw Barkley for a 7-yard loss, although Tyquan Lewis had beaten the pulling guard to the spot (the same guard who they wanted to try pulling to block Hubbard on the two-fer tackle later in the quarter--lesson for PSU, don't pull that guard to block fast DEs) and could have made the tackle also.
Right after that, Hubbard beat the RT with a spin move that left the guy grasping at air, resulting in an incompletion, then Barkley got tackled for a short gain out of a prevent defense on 3rd and 17. That led to the punt block.
That defense sure played well after that fumble.
I'm still trying to figure out how we missed blocking that end zone punt against USC at the shoe in 2009. I gotta move on...
Ronny P Buckeye
When you get the answer to that, please let me know how we missed blocking the punt against LSU in the 2008 championship game....
A great play. The momentum changed when State Penn realized they couldn't run on our front line. Start of the second half to be exact. And yes DW's block was huge but just accelerated the inevitable given how the offense was playing at that point.
