I am on the Haskins train, but i think JT should start and then bring in Haskins for a couple of series.
With having a 5th year starter we should have had a plan to ease in our back up for some experience this year anyway. Maybe it was till Burtows hurt his hand? Or would that make too much sense for this coaching staff. I'm sure Meyer didn't want to stoke the QB controversy anymore then he had to.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
Or would that make too much sense for this coaching staff
You're definitely not the only one (just the most recent), but I love how some fans think that all of these guys suddenly forgot how to coach football. UV for the opinion either way AB.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Defensive ends need to be a touch less eager this week and keep contain on army. As long as that happens and the linebackers aren't overcommiting to play fakes, the defense will stuff army.
Seeing as how this is going to be army's biggest game, it wouldn't shock me if they try and get the defensive backs to bite on play action and at least try some throws over the middle, but with two completions through two games I think we should be fine
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I agree, I dont know why they are saying that they cant fix the defense this week. Playing against the option is the ideal time because it requires assignment discipline for every defender. I know Army hasn't passed their first 2 games but if you think for one second after watching the Okie tape that they wont keep the LBs/Safeties disciplined by play action, you're crazy. Hell, they're crazy if they don't run it at least twice a quarter. LB's and Safeties eyes were in the backfield an awful lot last week. Army doesnt have the talent to make this a game but lets see what happens. Ill be playing close attention to the LBs and Safeties on play action.
Haskins needs some playing time..period..how can he take his game to that next level without having the experience!? Get him in the game!
Two more sleeps and we can watch the buckeyes put on a clinic. Much respect should be given to our service academies. Just hope to see Haskins or Burrow spin the pigskin a few times!
It's been very hectic since the storm and haven't had a chance to watch the Oklahoma debacle again. My community has been out of power since late Saturday night. A friend has rental property's all over town so we are staying @ one her places. Saves me the hassle about getting gas every other day which meant wasting a couple hours looking and standing in line.
I don't like playing the academy's it's like watching your ex-wife driving off a cliff in your new car. These guys that play for army will be our generals down the road and will sitting on that wall protecting us. So for me it's a different kind of attitude rooting against Army. I want to see our Buckeye's dominate but don't want to see Army give up that wouldn't be good. Not as bad as playing Georgia Tech because they don't have the talent level to match.
Marinovich was pretty good back in the day. Amazing he can play at any level at 48. I figure if George Foreman can win the heavyweight title at 45 knocking out a 27yo and I mean knocked out. Foreman hit him right on the button. Why can't a 48 yo play QB in the NFL? Hell Brady is almost there and doesn't appear to have a noticeable loss of skills.
Hoping everyone has a good day, cheer up we all thought we would lose at least 1 game right? O H....
I don't like playing the academy's rewatching Buckeye losses it's like watching your ex-wife driving off a cliff in your new car.
I have never once watched a replay of an Ohio State loss. I've also been married only once for 25 years. Maybe there's something there?
Marinovich throws seven TDs and then sits out the next game with a sore shoulder...no one saw that coming from a 48 year old man?
Speaking of service academy teams and the triple option, Michigan plays Air Force on Saturday. Then they go to West Lafayette to play Purdue. Hopefully preparing for AF hurts their prep for the Boilermakers.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
If anything, Brady has gotten better with age. There was a segment they showed during the Chiefs game that showed his throwing motion at 30 vs this year at 40. It's exactly the same. The only difference is Brady's release is actually quicker than it was when he was 30. Insane.
Let JT play one half and then bring in Haskins or Burrow (if he is healthy enough). Let Haskins run the whole offense too and not just hand offs to the RBs. Really excited to see some of the backups this weekend.
No what's more likely to happen is we will play a ridiculously close game until half time and then J.T. will come out and have a decent 2nd half and end up playing the whole game. This whole Offensive failure and calls for a QB change makes it less likely we will see Haskins or Burrow anytime soon. Unless we are blowing teams out from quarter 1 on, Urban isn't going to add fuel to the fire.
Unfortunately I think you are correct.Meyer only thinks about winning his next game and avoid answering WHY questions from reporters....again.
One thing that could help this team is an offense built around JT - run first - in the first half and one built around a deep thrower in the second.
DJ, we agree on Dwayne Haskins. This would be a perfect time to put him in. They say he's not game ready, but what better way to get game ready than to play against Army, UNLV, and Rutgers? Fixing the play calling issues could go a long way in helping though if JT does remain the starter (he will). Proper play calling could open things up for him. The offense did do something that worked against Oklahoma, the problem was, once the coaches identified what was working, they stopped doing it. Which is very similar to what happened against Penn State last year and Sparty the year before that.
I don't like the "not game ready" excuse either. Haskins has been practicing for over a year; Burrow for over two. If they are not game ready, the coaches are to blame.
Everyone ready for the big, bad Buckeyes to beat up a team of walk-ons?
Actually, they're soldiers and future officers in the greatest Army in the world, so they have that going for them.
I know that and appreciate that, but the bottom line is they are not on an athletic scholarship are they??
But they are on full scholarships. OK, maybe it's more of a work program, just the work takes place after graduation. You know, when they may have to put their lives on the line for us. But they do not pay tuition.
While I can't see a scenario where Army wins, bet their behavior would exhibit no poor sportsmanship if they did. The Academies are all a near perfect example of why discipline works in football, at work, and in life.
And talk about tradition! Visiting West Point is a fantastic experience. Do not pass it up if you ever get the chance. Ohio State should have arranged for the cadets (not the football players) to parachute in. What an amazing sight to see. I hesitate to call what they do a jump. The cadets step out of their decent like we step off an escalator. The students are most impressive. Hard to leave there and not feel the US is in good shape.
God bless these young people.
At all our academies.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
These guys are all recruited athletes, not walk-ons, and I think it's disrespectful to label them as such. They're probably, for the most part, 2 and 3 star recruits, likely the kind of guys who would go to MAC schools and other schools of that level. And nobody pays to go to the academies (tuition and fees for all cadets is paid by the related military branch), so technically they are not on scholarship, but that doesn't change the fact that they are recruited players who likely had numerous other division 1 offers. For what it's worth, I believe they actually receive a small monthly salary/stipend, partially to help cover the cost of uniforms and such that they have to buy.
Let me ask this question. Let's say you thought your chances to plan NFL football were slim at best. If you had the choice to attend Bowling Green or Toledo to play football, and you were also offered a chance to go to West Point, Annapolis or Colorado Springs, what would you do? I think I'm pretty sure I'd choose the route that offered me an Ivy League education, a guaranteed manager level job (likely for life if I so wanted) after graduation and all the benefits that go with it.
BTW, my nephew (OSU class of 95 BS in engineering, OSU 03? Masters, Michigan '14? PhD) is a Lt. Col in his second stint of teaching at West Point.
Hey 95, thank your nephew (for me) for his service.....it can never be stated enough IMHO.
I believe juniors and seniors get E1 pay checks. They all drive very nice cars by their senior years.
From what I've read, they essentially get a $1000 per month salary, with the cost of books, fees, uniforms and other sundries automatically deducted. For 4th, 3rd and 2nd class cadets, most of that money is held back and then they actually get between $100 and $400 a month. Then, when they're firsties (seniors), they get the held back money and their full paychecks. Probably why seniors drive nice cars.
Also, if they leave before the start of their third year (voluntarily or involuntarily) they're free and clear. Otherwise, they're in a 2-7 situation, where they agree to finish the 2 years at the academy and 5 years of active service afterwards. If they leave after their 3rd year starts, they either have to serve as enlisted, or they have to pay back the tuition (like $150K).
My brother-in-law, a recently retired West Point alum, and a few of his veteran friends are coming in for the game. Hoping all fans treat them like family.
That's a pretty good deal to only have to serve 5 years active duty after a free college education. Probably longer for doctors and lawyers. My uncle was a 2 star in the Air Force. He was an enlisted radioman and became a pilot during the Korean conflict. My father and my uncle were fishing somewhere near pikes peak (my uncle had a cabin there and was a elk hunter aficionado) and my father had a heart attack mid 1990's. My uncle got him to the Air Force hospital in Colorado Springs. Because my uncle was a retired general they gave my father some special blood thinning medication kept in stock for dignitaries and the elite. I could have sat and talked to my uncle for hours. His mind was like a computer, so much knowledge. He flew the phantom F-4, the A-6 and the U2.
A week ago we were talking playoffs. Now were talking about if we can handle a team of 2-stars.
That bar lowered pretty quickly.
Coaches are trying to lower expectations for reasons best we don't think about.
As it appears people have lost the humor in their lives in this website here's an upvote to balance you out man. I know you didn't intend that as an insult to the great men and women of our armed services.
As a side note, the walk on game isn't until the end of November my man.

Haskins and Burrow. I'd hire that firm any time.
Dang! Finally plugged the tear ducts after reading Ramzy's post and I come in here in see that header pic and I'm back at it!
Thanks for the heads up on the Duchenne benefit. Looks like I've found something productive to do before the game on Saturday.
Oops starts Sunday, didnt want you to show up on saturday by mistake brother.

I...meant... the...Bengals game on Sunday (they play tonight, I think). Thanks dude I appreciate it.
My bad. Good call. Hope to see you there!
Why is everyone so quick to anoint Haskins? Has everyone forgotten about Burrow? I know he's been hurt but he's throwing again so he must be almost healed, I don't understand why all I've been seeing on this site is Haskins, Haskins, Haskins. We've actually seen Burrow on the field albeit in mop up duty, but he's looked excellent. I think it's unfair to the kid to just totally forget about him when he's not gonna be out much longer
I have been thinking the same. The clamor for Haskins is most likely two parts. 1. With Burrow's hand, Haskins is technically #2 and 2. The concensus is that Haskins is better suited to run the Wilson O, or what Wilson would want in a QB.
Personally, I was going as far to think that because Burrow was out, it would prevent Urban from pulling JT (aside from injury) since Joe did play in some games and Haskins hasn't. Bottom line, maybe it's because most just want to see someone [else] get some reps, sometime soon?
"Three things can happen when you pass the ball, and two of them are bad." - Woody
I have had the same confusion. We have been a dual-threat QB offense for most of the last 6 years. Haskins at this point would mean not just a mid-season shift in play-calling but a shift in offensive philosophy.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
Burrow reminds me of Joe Germain except bigger, stronger and can run a 4.6
Ive heard Haskins struggles with the playbook too so maybe thats why they havent annointed him. Everything ive heard says burrow won the job but the staff keeps saying it is neck and neck when it really wasnt. They want to keep motivating Haksins by saying its a toss up, and so noone transfers.

Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
But you know what? If I'm going by this fan base, all of that will be out of the window if they don't win the World Series, everyone will second guess the managers, probably want them gone, and the starting pitchers will be bums and should have been replaced with someone else.
I bleed scarlet...literally
I can't speak for anyone else, but I have been a Tribe fan since the 60s, meaning I've suffered through some terrible baseball, and close calls. THIS is magical, we'll get to the playoffs, and from there anything is possible. With the Buckeyes I have expectations, with the Tribe I believe in possibilities. The Cubs ended their streak, anything is possible!

I suppose the Illitch story should not be shocking in any way. This is what billionaire families do. How did more people not notice this was happening? As it says at the end, it is technically legal to do, but with a city like Detroit that needs every dollar it can get, the whole thing is beyond shady.
Good of Wilson to shoulder the blame for the OU game, but was it really all him? We will never know for sure, but at least he is not running from his part. Start JT, change the play calling, then get Burrow and Haskins some pt after a solid lead has been established.
Wishing all the best for Jacob Jarvis and the fundraiser on Saturday. Hard to think of a better way to spend part of a Saturday doing something helpful.
Many people locally did notice and tried to speak up about it. It never gained much traction in the media though. Many of us up here have been upset with the use of public funds for these types of projects for a long time, and this project specifically. To stay within bounds of the commenting policy I won't get into the reasons this was largely ignored by the media, except to say that bringing it up did not fit the narrative until now.
Ill be at the fundraiser all afternoon, and would love to meet you guys. Should I wear some special shirt or hat so people know its me? Tall guy in the Buckeye shirt wont cut it. Lol.
Plus, I dont look like JK Simmons. Lol.
Any word via Twitter by the recruits at the game on how they liked their visit. It's been a strange start to the season but I hope they can refocus and get a nice win on Saturday!
Lose, lose when playing these schools. I'm just praying we leave healthy.
So Army doesn't practice against a team that has a passing attack. How does that help us?

Football fans in America can be pretty fanatical, but they don't hold a candle to international soccer fans.
Yep especially when people have to be hospitalized.
It's moments like what we're seeing with Mr. Barret (tremendous respect for the young man), Coaches Meyer, Wilson, Day & Smith that I could pull-up a tremendously large bag of popcorn (butter, salt, garlic, rosemary - no judging) and a large glass of sweet tea and watch how they struggle through this to truly come out of this. Will it be bitter failure? Sparkling victory? I can only imagine the immense amount of pressure on these men and want to see how they persevere through this quagmire. Of course I am hoping for a sparkling victory for all - in that there is a reckoning on JT's part, and a reward for the coaches in pushing through this hangup in mentoring their starting QB through probably the most tumultuous point in his football career.
You don't know what you have until it's gone .... for example, toilet paper.
Good on Wilson to deflect blame from Meyer/players to himself, but no amount of perfect play calling can make Parris and Terry catch a wide open deep ball.
I appreciate the Louis C.K. article. I'm sure the Gateway theater will play his film, although I'm not too certain that's the best film to see with a girlfriend who doesn't really understand the intricacies of dark noir.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
I'm focused on Oklahoma going undefeated, Ohio State blowing out the Big Ten, and that rematch with Baker Mayfield in the Sugar Bowl.
After the absolute disrespect that the OU fans who attended the game afforded Ohio Stadium over at LandThieves, there is nothing I want more than a rematch with that pampered, historical appreciation lacking fan base. Go Bucks! Beat Army!
Do you think with Barrett being so close to owning so many more OSU QB records as well as B10 records is playing in to Meyer not willing to consider benching Barrett. He is just 2 TDs away from the B10 record isn't he? Maybe after that record falls, Meyer would consider a change? Not likely, but just a thought.
The first (and only) time I'd ever heard that was in Doctor Zhivago, with Klaus Kinski uttering that epithet. I have occasionally seen a dog do it. Disgusting behavior.

I think the officiating in the Oklahoma game was actually pretty darn good I groaned when I saw they were big 12 refs but I felt they did a really good job. They were fair. At least I haven't seen a lot of complaining about them.
Can you imagine the Michigan fanbase if they lost a game to a Big 12 team at home with Big 12 refs? I think they would be very disappointed.
But if the Buckeyes can't move the ball consistently on Army, 11W's servers may not survive the night.
Mods neither, for that matter. Mornin', DJ!
I'm not against Haskins at all, but I'm with Burrow for 2 reasons. One, I think he'd fit better in this offense with his ability to scramble. Not as good as JT at it, but he's been very accurate in real games, albeit garbage time. Second, I've only seen Haskins in practice. Shown a ton of Promise, but it's just practice. But like I said, I wouldn't be against something new either way. Love JT, but I just can't see how it gets better with him. But it isn't going to change so I'll have to deal with it and support him.
A friend of mine I went to high school with has a son with Duchenne - her husband's family own's a golf course in Lancaster where she has a best ball tourney every year this month IIRC, with all the money going to Duchenne research - great cause & a great time.
