Realistically, the Buckeyes plan on taking about 24-25 (I believe). Who rounds out the class with Cam Brown, Carman, Culver, Oweh, Smith, 3 star DE from Connecficut (I think? Can’t remember name). Along with a possibility of a late flip or player popping up a bit down the road. Figure we would take Carman, Smith/Oweh for sure. After that, seems like it gets foggy IMO

Casey Rogers is the DE from Old Farms CT.....I love your list. If all those happen we prob will all end up on IV’s

Knew it was Casey something, lol. But yeah, would be the icing on the cake. Would be stoked if it ended up as Brown, Carman, Smith, and Oweh. Rogers looks solid too. Can’t go wrong either way

In my unprofessional opinion, I think Tommy Togiai is our best committed prospect. He's an absolute mauler at DT with crazy quick feet for a guy that weighs 290 lbs. He's going to live in opponents backfields for years to come.

HS
GOOMBAY's picture

Togiai, who at the age of 12 asked for a membership to Gold's Gym for his birthday, bench presses 32 reps of 225 pounds and squats 595 pounds. He also runs a 4.9-second 40-yard dash.

True story. I can do none of those things. Well -- maybe buy a Gold's membership.

HS
NorCal Buckeye's picture

Yeah seriously, I'm just stoked that I'm creeping up on my goal of 1x at 225.

HS
buckslan's picture

That's impressive that he can hit 32 reps without even taking part in college conditioning. For comparison sake, Billy price the iron man maxed out at 36 reps of 225 and he's been at OSU since 2013.

HS
Jay Lawerence's Laugh's picture

His squat is more impressive to me. Most high school guys don't like to put the work in on the bottom half, but that is where your power comes from.

After coach Mick gets ahold of him, he is gonna trim up a bit, and keep that strength, with added agility/explosion.

Ohio, the greatest state in the Union!

HS
BuckminsterFullback's picture

I think Mike Adams (6-7, 320) did 18 or 19 reps at the combine, and was taken 56th overall. So, yeah, a high-school kid doing 32 reps is pretty impressive.

Disclaimers about length of arms, etc., but still...

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.

HS
Jay Lawerence's Laugh's picture

19 reps at 320 is really poor if you ask me. Granted at 6'7 he has long arms, but weight proportionately its sub par.

Ohio, the greatest state in the Union!

HS

Their will be some guys at the combine that won't touch his strength that's freakish at the high school level.

Also love his "lowness" at line if scrimmage.  ...comes from depending on and using overwhelming leg strength.  Very excited for Coach J...Got 3 Plan A's at DT.  This guy fits any style defense...slanting, gap , shoulder, nose, going to have to double him if running near him or on short yardage plays.  NFL type DT

We are an offensive (and defensive) line driven program.  Tommy the Pinball Wizard will destroy opposing interior O lines. And if he doesn’t get the QB personally, he will create such mayhem that any three other D linemen will easily take him down.

HS

Incredible DT haul this year. What I don't understand is the lack of DE's. OSU has churned out NFL-quality DE talent and there's a very good chance that true freshmen will get playing time next year. I understand that Cox wants to play closer to home, but I don't get the appeal of Penn State over OSU for guys like Smith and Oweh.

HS
Buck68's picture

If the individual star rankings are accurate in each of our recruit cases this class... it is a most 'credible' haul.

Agree most 'hauls' are transparently... 'incredible' be cause they stand largely on hot air and the preferences of men.  This means the phrase "out of nowhere" is indeterminately closer to 'on the merits' than any amount of bloviating.

Honesty & Integrity.  No counting...keep on striving.

GO BUCKS!

HS
Buck68's picture

What a mature, versatile answer to competitor rumors of LJ's demise/retirement.  And while Urban's offense still has a major issue, restoring his recruiting momentum is... huge.  Even huger if we close with his top targets.  And a W over USC... would be just a tad more than a partridge in a pear tree.

Antwan's 2-3 years out of HS - if his rankings are accurate, he should be ready to rotate or better next year at a DT.

Looking forward to Tommy Terror's first trysts this spring with our OL.  The competition just got better... all around.

And who's to say Taron Vincent cannot 'have' ... 'immediate impact'?

Coach DJ has said his archtypical DT body is 6'3 290.  I'd like to hear reasons why in terms of skills and techniques.  I'd guess it has to do with leverage and 'low man wins' at the LOS... but what about in context with disruption, burst, and pursuit to the QB/ballcarrier... and down the LOS?

Reading what others have opined... agree LJ 'has existing options' for DE should we be unable to land anyone on the meritr this class.  Boy did Cox miss golden opportunities given him... in and after football!  Yet, each man has his choice... and price.  And, regardless, no recruit should be coerced or mislead into coming to/staying at a school.  The decision-making skill of 'considering' is a mature man's critical thinking test.

I long for the days of yesteryear when i could go to practices... where what makes men and team, starts in obscurity....

HS
CTownBucknut's picture

I've instantly become a huge fan of Coach Mariani.   I don't know what type of pipeline, if any, comes from Highland, but it's clear this coach is all about OSU

HS
CTownBucknut's picture

I have a question to anybody that wishes to answer.  With 21 commits already, and 0 DE's, I'm curious how OSU ideally would like to fill out the class.  It's been reported that OSU would like another WR in the class, and at least 1 more OT, if not 2.  Let's call it one of each.  That leaves 2 spots.  So do we think they are looking to go 1 OT, 1 WR, and 2 DE's, and that's it?  What if one of the elite LB targets want in?  Or, does OSU already know that Jones, and perhaps somebody else is flipping, leaving extra spots available?  There just seems to be a discrepancy between their targets, and number of commits IMO.

HS
BuckNutzGasMan's picture

My guess is that Jones and Woodbey are out.

But that’s just a guess.

Emory never decided to lead the class and Woodbey just took all tOSU things off his Twitter.

HS
CTownBucknut's picture

Buck, that's my thought exactly.  the way they are recruiting, i get the sense that they know they are filling 5-6 spots, rather than 4.  So I am always already mentally prepared to find out Jones, and perhaps Woodbey or Proctor are flipping.  And while that would suck, I'm excited for the class regardless, and know they will be just fine.

HS
Crimson's picture

I think you're right on.  Naturally, exceptions if we lose a QB or safety.  And if we get an exceptional LB or 3 DEs, I'm sure we'll find a way.  That being said, we know we never get all of the guys we want, so the odds of getting everyone and the extras is extremely low.  It will work itself out.

HS
bucknutz18's picture

Man his coach sounds smitten by the Buckeyes.  People often forget how important the kid's head coach is when influencing their college choice.  Most parents trust what the HC thinks is best for their kid.
