I don't believe that dog sneeze nonsense.

I just finished that story, and I do wonder about the legitimacy. Then again, it seems there has to be some kind of communication for an entire pack of dogs to figure out what they are doing/going to do. While sneezing would not seem like an obvious choice, I suppose there is no reason to say it is out of the realm of possibility. It is also possible that my sleep-deprived brain here at 4:44am in the central time zone simply thinks it is interesting.

Actually I liked the following story about reframing stress, and if that can work repeatedly that would be great.

I always thought my dog sneezed because of allergies. This is why his rap name would be Archie Sneezy Fresh.  So now I feel he is putting his vote in on what's for dinner.

HS
blueblazer22's picture

That is funny SP32. We have a beagle, and she sneezes a lot, at what has often seemed to be odd times. Maybe she isn't allergic to something, as we have assumed, but that she is trying to get our attention to sway a decision we are making, whether it be for dinner, a walk, whatever. Maybe I will start sneezing AT her and see what comes of it....

Had to post to chime-in on the dog-sneezing banter.  My dog (a huge mutt) will regularly sneeze for seemingly no reason.  At first, it was worrying.  Then it just became the white noise of owning my dog.

We have a Beagle/Lab mix and he definitely uses sneezes as a form of communication. Starts the sneezes when he thinks you are possibly going to walk him. Also sneezes as soon as he comes inside from doing his bidness, wanting that treat asap. Stops said sneezing after getting what he wants. So for me the sneezes mean, hey man, take me serious, I really, really wants something dammit!

Maybe the sneeze is the dog version of the Carlos/Zeke/Mike "feed me" motion with the hand. Didn't see Dobbins do that once last week, guess he was getting fed nicely the whole game, haha.

Jordan Thomas could have a big game for OU. Ohio State may not necessarily have to have success against him all night to win, but they're not going to be able to avoid him either.

Hindsight is, and in, 2020

HS

I agree, Thomas is good but I don't think he's elite to the extent he changes a game plan.  I'm sure he improved from last year, but he should have because he honestly wasn't all that great.  From CFB Film Room: "After entering the season with high expectations, Thomas’ 2016 season was a disaster. He allowed 831 yards and seven touchdowns, and was routinely dominated by the top receivers he went up against."  https://www.cfbfilmroom.com/2017/01/18/oklahoma-sooners-return-elite-tal...

Sam Hubbard has taken a lot of crap on this site and others over the last year or so. Personally, I can't understand why. No, he isn't flashy or overly excitable after great plays, but he does his job just about every damn play, and that cannot be replaced. I know we have young players that are going to be great in due time, but I'm almost hoping Hubbard sticks around for his senior year because the Buckeye D would be better off for it.

I think the whole zone 6 deal needs to go away until coach Smith can prove his worth as a receivers coach because in recent years, they have been anything but that..I'd say that his time is limited if he doesn't start producing..nothing against our receiving group at all because the talent is there, I just don't feel that they are getting coached to reach their full potential..

HS

I'm with you 100% here. Smith needs to shit or get off the pot. There is way too much talent in the WR room for them to underperform for this long. Its been 3 years now. Coach Smith does a lot of talking, and its time to back that up.

HS
buckeyepastor's picture

Yes to this.  I keep hearing how young we are at receiver but Campbell and McLaurin have been at this 4 years.  KJ Hill, 3 years.  Victor and Mack are year 2 in the program but they saw time last year and should be more than ready by now.  The suggestion that we should expect to wait 2-3 years for guys in zone 6 to step up when we have guys in their first year getting it done at so many other positions is unacceptable

"Woody would have wanted it that way"

HS

BUCKAROOTIMESTWO's picture

Meyer loves Campbell, so send him an email on any complaints you got about him being featured. How about you begin with while he thinks he's the best threat for the deep ball.

McLaurin is used primarily as a damn blocker; he had two targets and caught them both. Same with Hill!

Zone 6 AIN'T the ONLY position that's been waiting on improvement, but beating THAT drum gets you labeled around here.

I feel for the older guys actually, their first 2 years they sat behind the heralded and talented 2013 class.

OSU was trying to repeat, not much if any time was spent on their development.  Last year was their first real offensive snaps, and it was the putrid dink and dunk festival in the passing game.  Of course that's all on someone else too!

The stale narrative was the WRs couldn't get any separation and it's being repeated ALREADY this year!

Have their been some bad drops, yes there has been.  There's going to be bad drops and just drops! There's been more bad passes then drops, but you can't tell that narrative.

Lest not forget the CALLS that the young WRs would solve all the purported ills of Zone 6.  So far so what.

In the end, AT LEASt they have time on their hand, and CHANGE in the program regardless to what happens this year!!!

Folks say they're tired of the "converted" WRs.

There's those tired of a running QB too. One thing I'd bet an entire paycheck on, AFTER this year, the WR narratives will change, primarily the separation one.

I watched plenty of college football last weekend, where the ball was thrown, with or without a hitch, short, intermediate, and long, on coverage or off.  But our passing game's PRIMARY problem is the WRs!

Yeah right!

HS

Smith is our outstanding and best recruiter, and an average receiver coach:

put him in a recruiting assistant position,

and hire a great receivers coach.

We're so great at inventing titles, surely we can invent one or more that meet NCAA narratives....

HS
bucks15's picture

It helps for recruiting so I have no problem with the mantra.

I do have a problem with his coaching of fundamentals and apparently Urban does too based on his assistant's reviews.  I wanted him gone last year with the new offensive regime change but those decisions get made outside my pay grade.

I gave Hubbard a fair bit of criticism this off season and even used the O word to describe him.

I'm guessing O stands for overrated.

I personally think Hubbard underrated. Our DL depth is the biggest inhibitor to guys racking up monster individual stats. His athleticism is off the charts. His potential is limitless but he'll probably barely scratch it at Ohio State. But a 3.6 gpa in finance bodes well for his ability to master the mental side of the game once it becomes his full time job. Physical attributes + intelligence + personality + good looks = 10 year NFL career and a supermodel wife. And he'll probably make millions more through his investments. No wonder SPD has a crush on him. Crap, I think I do too...

Not so sure I believe the Hubbard story about a doc at the 6 month mark predicting he will become 6'5", but it makes for a good read all the same.

I have never worried at the collegiate level about a corner shutting down one entire side of the field, but in this case if Zone 6 cannot get off the line clean or beat him on some routes, then the run game will have to be special. Run at his side to force him to make tackles? Run some run routes to try to get him caught in the wash as it were? Run, run, run and make the corners/safeties cheat up toward the line and then the passing game should open up, particularly in play action. If Weber and Dobbins are both healthy and efficient, I don't see how Oklahoma stops them along with JT as well

Fido - I might be if they were using any luck, fortune or Jobu Juice. The fact is they are just bashing the opposition. Salazar has a horrendous start on Tuesday, the bullpen comes in for 8+ scoreless innings, then Cookie pitches a complete game on Wed to give the pen a rest. They are having so much fun, and Francona is going to play everyone he has to get them rest and keep them all into the game. "Quarterbacks like Baker Mayfield are what makes CFB a better overall product than the NFL."

Amen brother.  This is the year I have finally given up on the NFL and qb's have a lot to do with it.  If you are lucky enough to have a good one in the NFL, you spend the whole season with fingers crossed your starter doesn't go down, because your team is fucked if he does (and if you don't have one, don't bother watching at all.  Teams can lose a decade before finding a franchise qb.).  I can't remember the last time a back up qb made a deep playoff run and delivered a title like what we saw at OSU in 14-15 (admittedly it is rare in college too, but at least possible).

QB'ing in the NFL is almost solely dependent on ability to quickly read the defense and deliver an accurate pass, and the time to do so is so much less there because of the quality of the pass rushers (at least this is what I see).  But in college, much of an offense's success can turn on the system as much as the accuracy of the qb, and in fact, many qb's run a less complex offensive set which focuses on one receiver then running if he isn't open.   DB's are so good in the NFL, that much of what we see in the NFL is fake offense to compensate for this (automatic first down for illegal contact by the defense, spot fouls on questionable PI calls) and tons of qb check downs which just sucks to watch.  Much of this comes down to lack of quality qb play and I am not sure it gets better any time soon.

If the NFL is your thing, no problem, watch it, but I just can't do it any more.  Fewer big plays, refs marching off fake penalties ain't my thing.

You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.

HS
Buck68's picture

of the things i think i thought of, here's 3 i forgot to mention....

1-thought Hubbard had a solid game all-around.  Looked a half-step quicker than last year....

2-Baker gave up both TD's and took one pass to the back of his helmet.  Looked like he was "all around the football"... with no big plays.

3-Don't like our 1 stop shopping DB coverage technique, especially the fronting, watch the eyes, and rake the ball out.  If you're tight on the receiver you have poor leverage to punch up; if you're loose & the ball's high, your leverage to punch down is poor because you have to extend your arm out.  And it looks like FACEGUARDING... be cause it often is....   ;-{)}

[don't 'target' the refs with an opportunity to err....   ;-{)}  ]
