Wrestlboom! Congrats, that is spectacular!
Braving the long dark of the offseason
"There's still some green showing before you see the chalk."
Got to put him up with Jesse Owens as the best athlete OSU has ever had.
Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.
We're watching a legend in the making.
Absolutely. It should be well known that this isn't even an exaggeration.
Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.
The legend is already made.
Wait til he puts another 10 years or so on top of what he's already done.
Dude from Russia was completely gassed
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
He really was - for about a second I was worried that Kyle had run out of gas, but then he turned it on and Sadulaev was clearly toast.
Boom for Curt
Earle’s target practice
This is a triumph worthy of Rocky Balboa.

Kyle won it for:
That single picture says so much to me. It Never gets old.
The best there was, the best there is, the best there ever will be!!!
Damn straight! Go Buckeyes!!!!!!!
Ohio State: The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
HUGE news!! I'll admit that I'm not the closest follower of all things wrestling, but Kyle Snyder has to be one of the best wrestlers in the history of the sport, right?
He's getting up there. It's tough to go just off metrics, because there are wrestlers who won 4 NCAA championships, which Snyder can't do since he took second his freshman year. If he wins gold in the next Olympics he is instantly a top wrestler of all time. I think John Smith and Bruce Baumgartner are the only other Americans to have multiple golds.
Where do people think he ranks in terms of all time OSU athletes? He's got to be at least top 5. Archie, Jesse Owens, Jack Nicklaus, and ???
Katie Smith and Orlando Pace are up there as well.
Get dumped then
Cael Sanderson may be the best to ever wrestle.
Cael Norman Sanderson (/ˈkeɪl/ KALE; born June 20, 1979) is an American college wrestling icon who rose to prominence while at Iowa State University. He is currently the head wrestling coach of Penn State University. He is considered one of the best American amateur wrestlers in recent history. A 2004 Olympic champion in Athens, Greece, he went undefeated in four years of college wrestling at Iowa State University (159–0), winning four consecutive NCAA titles (1999–2002). He is the only wrestler in NCAA Division I history to go undefeated in official matches with more than 100 wins. Sports Illustrated named his college career as the second most impressive college sports feat behind the setting of four world records by Jesse Owens in a single hour at the 1935 Big Ten track and field conference championship meet.
"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, & in the manner in which you live.
So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "
- Stuart Scott
Lord knows he's building an incredible coaching legacy, too, with 6 NCAA titles under his belt so far.
As a competitor, I think if Snyder pulls down another world or Olympic title, there's a real argument to be made that Snyder is the top dog. He's the top 97kg wrestler in the world three years running, with two NCAA titles to boot; he'll likely finish his collegiate career with three, plus at least three world/Olympic titles to Sanderson's single gold.
It sucks that Snyder finished second at the NCAAs as a freshman. On the world stage, it's hard to argue against Snyder.
Sanderson's undefeated streak in college, though, is ridiculous. Only Edwin Moses comes close to that level of perfection in my mind.
These conversations are always fun, because it's hard to compare Snyder to someone like Dan Gable, for example, who likewise had a crazy collegiate and international career, but who couldn't wrestle his freshman year because NCAA rules - as with football - didn't allow freshman on the varsity squad at that point. But Sanderson's NCAA accomplishments, yeah, those speak for themselves.
Would Snyder have some insane winning streak in college too though, if he solely wrestled for OSU? He'd probably be 60-0ish, and after this year 90-0ish. I think it's more impressive to have like a 98% win rate at the highest level than to stay in college and beat up on (relative) chumps. Sanderson may have been on top longer, but Snyder's peak has been higher.
While going perfect in college is indeed amazing, as you can't really do any better than that, but Kyle Snyder is wrestling and beating the best the world has to offer, and he still hasn't wrestled in his senior year of college. To me that's just jaw dropping. How can a guy that's still in college, beat the best wrestlers that the country of Russia and any other country have to offer.
He is no doubt awesome, and his college career is second to none, but on the international stage Snyder has him beat.
When it comes to his international record Kyle has already exceeded Sanderson at the age of 21. Cael Sanderson's collegiate record is amazing but you have to remember the undefeated record is not 100% percent accurate, Cael wrestled as a true freshmen and lost a match. Then he took a redshirt year. Snyder wrestled as true freshmen and only lost in NCAA championship match his true freshmen year. If kyle goes undefeated this year, then I'd consider him every bit as good as Sanderson at the collegiate level.
Furthermore, I point out that Kyle regularly gives up 40-50 lbs a match. As brutal as Kyle has been the last two years in college he would be even more effective it he wrestled in a weight class closer to his true weight. If there was a 215lb weight class in college, I doubt few wrestlers would last the full match.
If you are talking American wrestlers, you have two benchmarks...
Dominance....John Smith won 6 consecutive golds (2 Olympic & 4 World) before retiring at the age of 27.
Career excellence....Bruce Baumgartner is a four time Olympic medalist (2 golds) & nine time world medalist (3 golds).
Jordan Burroughs is moving into the conversation. He now has four world titles & a gold medal.
Lee Kemp is right there as well. Three time world champion, probable gold medalist in 1980 without the boycott.
Dan Gable's '72 Olympic title run is among the greatest of all time. He won gold without surrendering a point, with an injured knee (and received stitches in his scalp after the first match). His international career just wasn't long enough.
If you go by 'best wrestlers' in the world? There are a whole bunch of Russians/Soviets in the conversation.
When it is all said and down, Snyder is almost certainly going to be in the conversation among greatest American wrestlers. Hell the way he's going he could have a Karelin-like dominance.
Holy smokes. What an epic win. Snyder is a monster!!
"Most Noahs have two of everything, he's got four tonight" - Gus Johnson on Noah Brown's 4 TD catches against Oklahoma.
Boom! I hope to see Kyle transition to mma one day and follow the late great Kevin Randleman.
The world is yours
It was mentioned during the match that pound for pound the winner would be ................... the Worlds Best Wrestler Hands Down.
Wait, I thought it was Kyle Synder?
Amazing match to watch. Back and forth. Snyder's stamina and will won the day. Dude is some kinda great.

Incredible talent! Can he play the 1 technique?
The pain of discipline or the pain of regret, take your pick
This is awesome - I would also like to thank the dick MOD for deleting my posts on the win even though my post was prior to theirs
I mean there was also another wrestling thread started this morning about the whole event that may have had something to do with it
I could understand that. However, how many multiple topics are posted about a single game during the football season. The thread was about going for the gold. My thread was saying he and the USA won. Guess we will only one thread if it discusses the playoff championships this year b/c it is related.
Yeah I see where you're coming from there. I am just willing to bet that the other thread was what caused yours to be shut down and not the staff article. Also game multiple threads for games are usually needed because of the sheer amount of comments
With that said - it was an awesome win - similar storyline has not happened since Kenny Monday beat another gold medalist from Russia in the World Championships in 1989 when the Russian moved up to wrestle him.
Sure was a hell of a feat on Snyder's part. Ain't no doubt about that
Indiana....Let it go...
HAD TO UPVOTE THAT - love it
Don't take it personally. It's standard for staff-generated content to take priority over any reader posts. You're not the first, and won't be the last.
Oh well - Now I wonder how many are going to make it to the NCAA finals this year in Cleveland.
Terrific win for Kyle, our school and the country!

Incredible match! Kyle Snyder= G.O.A.T.
I can't find the video......someone please help!
"Great moments are born from great opportunities." - Herb Brooks
Thank you!!!! What a match. Dude is a beast
He's the GOAT.
USA > Russia
This guy is an absolute stud.
Way to go Kyle!! Amazingly you continue to get better and better we are so lucky to have you as a member of OSU and the USA national team.
Kyle was too powerful for Sadulaev, in the last minute all his pushing and heavy hands left the rooskie just drained of all will to win. He used to be the best, but made the mistake to move up in weight and doesn't have the pure weight for 97k. I suspect he will go back down to 86k and dominate again.
This is soo frickin sweet, I have been taking a ton of shit from a bunch of russians since Sadulaev moved up to 97k saying how Kyle was going to be crushed, how he didn't have the power to beat the russian bear and so on. I'm sure all I will hear is crickets when I go on Youtube to ask them how silver tastes!!!
That's how winners play. We convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.
Thanks for changing it from upset!!
He's starting to approach "greatest wrestler of all time" territory. Congrats Kyle! You've definitely earned it!!
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Champ... That is all.
"Meh, I'm not impressed. He only wrestled that Russian dude cause he's scared of me"--Jacob Casper
Almost seems unfair that he'll be wrestling against collegiate competition this year
The things Kyle Snyder have accomplished in wrestling are simply amazing and legendary. Kyle isn't just beating men in his age range but mature men with a lifetime of experience. Kyle could be well on his way to being the G.O.A.T!
How did Stieber do? I know he was in wrestlebacks, but can't find final standings.
Not well - he got beat pretty bad early but I honestly didn't hear after that match.
He got tech falled the won big and got tech falled again. It wasn't his day at all. Logie has a little way to go until he can beat the top 3 in the world his weight class, I know he won world championship last year but it was in olympic year so the top guys didn't participate
Today's installment of "Tweets That Did Not Age Well" visits a small hamlet in Dagestan:

Keep in mind that this isn't a verified account, so it's possible that this isn't the Russian Tank after all, but dang it's funny nonetheless.
Also, @11W probably got the Russian wrestler exiled to Siberia or sent to a Soviet reeducation program with this Tweet...

I'm still suspicious of every Russian athlete after it has been clearly discovered that their doping program has a history that goes back to the 60s without pause... I still can't believe they were allowed to compete in the Rio Olympics even after WADA found them guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to their doping program.
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
Listen, I am not in the business of defending dopers and Russia in particular. But you have to know the full story here. Meldonium is the substance that most failed/tested positive for. It was not a banned substance until Jan 1, 2016. If an athlete was taking it up until the ban date (it is legal in all Eastern Bloc countries) it could/was still in their system if tested shortly after. Which was the case with some (not saying all) athletes. Do I feel sorry for them? No, not at all. But can I understand why some may have tested positive? Sure. In sports where hundredths of a second (like swimming) can be the difference between Gold and a handshake, athletes will continue to push the envelope for an advantage. And it's easy to pick on Russian athletes. But we've never walked a day in their shoes. To know what pressure their government puts on them. I am just thankful I live in a free country where I make my own choices.
Meldonium is the substance that most FAILED tests for. That is most certainly not the only drug the Russians have been taking over the years KBONAY. There is an awesome documentary I just watched this week, recommended by an 11W poster, about the drug program in Russia, and how many drugs their athletes were taking. State supported cheating, with blood and urine testing to ensure their athletes wouldn't fail a test. And if they did, they had the means to switch the tests out, at least in one Olympics.
Remember most drug cheats don't get caught. It goes a lot deeper than meldonium over there.
Netflix has it - titled ICARUS - They don't mention melonium but more about protocols to get around testing
Andy - thanks for retweeting those - if true is so fitting how things ended the way they did.
Congrats Kyle Snyder
Congratulations !!! Great Accomplishment !! GO BUCKS for LIFE !!!

One word for Snyder:
If you notice, he always outgasses his opponent.
OUTSTANDING Kyle! Congrats on the massively huge win and thank you for representing the USA and THE Ohio State University in such a glorious fashion! The Buckeye Nation is filled with pride for kicking ass against the Russians!

He has brought Buckeye Nation more pride and worldwide recognition than any national championship in football could ever do. At 21. One. Single. Man. Don't get more legendary than that!
Onward and upward! Go Buckeyes!
Anyone know how to watch this in the US?
I use hide me VPN.
Congrats, Kyle. Thanks for bringing attention to the greatest sport. Thanks for doing it for America, and as a Buckeye!
Sudalaev wrestled a fantastic match, he deserves all the accolades he's received. Kid is a serious stud, the match shows just how hard it is to give up weight to a top level competitor.
If he were a real champion, he would have pinned him, especially with all those world champion wrestlers around him.

Congrats Kyle! Well done...
16-2 is SWEET!
He is just flipping amazing. Truly a great one. Perhaps the greatest at his position. Another literal golden age for OSU.
Saw a few, ahem, "threads" pop up yesterday while I was on the run.
Here with my proper respects - outstanding.
Congratulations to Kyle Snyder, and to the United States on taking the team title.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
I've never been a wrestling fan, but Snyder seems to be a beast.
Astounding accomplishment! Great honors to Kyle Snyder and Team USA. Makes me proud to be both and American and (especially) a Buckeye!

Awesome accomplishment Kyle Snyder. The late Curt Heinrichs smiled from the heavens.

Kyle Snyder is first wrestler in history to win 3 world championships while in college.
Kyle Snyder is the youngest American to win the world championship at age of 19.
Kyle Snyder is the youngest American to win Olympic gold at age of 20.
Kyle Snyder may be the first wrestler and possibly the only one in the history of centuries to win 4 world championships during the college. He has to win one more next year.
Congratulations to Kyle for his incredible win against the Russian Tank who lost only one in his senior international career (to Kyle!).
